Question 1

Who is Prashanti Paz, and why do people care about their work?

Accepted Answer

Prashanti Paz is a devotional singer and meditation teacher born in Patagonia, Argentina, and now based in The Hague, who shifted from a screenwriting career to full-time sacred music and teaching in 2016. Her journey to mantras is rooted in a profound encounter with Tibetan Buddhism—in 1997, she worked as a production assistant on Seven Years in Tibet in the remote Andes, where she lived alongside Tibetan monks and Rinpoches, meeting Buddhism face-to-face for the first time. After her mother's passing in 1999, she undertook formal Buddhist studies and has trained for over two decades with renowned teachers including H.H. the Dalai Lama, Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche, and Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche. Listeners and students value her work because she brings scholarly depth, cross-tradition knowledge, and a peaceful vocal presence to mantras that span Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, and shamanic lineages—not as a tourist, but as someone who has genuinely lived the contemplative path. Krishna Das, a prominent kirtan artist, has publicly praised her voice, signaling recognition within the devotional music community itself. Her albums Inner Light, Into the Heart, and Beyond have built a following of 43,000+ on Spotify, and she teaches guided meditations, courses, and workshops on Insight Timer, reaching audiences seeking an authentic, scholarly approach to mantra practice and meditation.

Question 2

What tradition or lineage does Prashanti Paz's work belong to?

Accepted Answer

Prashanti Paz's practice is rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, specifically the schools represented by her primary teachers—Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche and Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche are both lineage holders emphasizing both philosophical study and devotional practice, including sadhanas and mantra recitation. However, her musical and teaching work is deliberately ecumenical and not confined to a single tradition; she was raised in an interfaith family (Jewish father, Christian mother) where both traditions were honored, and this interfaith sensibility extends into her spiritual path and her art. Her discography draws from mantras across Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and shamanic traditions—tracks like Ganesha Sharanam (Hindu), Om Tare (Buddhist), and Shakti Gayatri (rooted in Hindu Vedic tradition) reflect this inclusive approach. She studied formal Buddhist scriptures and sadhana practice with the Dalai Lama and other masters, so her foundation is explicitly Buddhist, but her vocal work functions as a bridge, making these mantras and chants accessible to Western meditators and yoga practitioners who may not identify as Buddhist. The term kirtan (Sanskrit devotional singing) is often used to describe her genre on platforms like Spotify, though her aesthetic differs from the call-and-response group singing tradition; instead, she presents carefully arranged, solo vocal interpretations with minimal instrumentation—a more introspective version of the tradition.

Question 3

Where should a complete newcomer start with Prashanti Paz's work?

Accepted Answer

Start with Inner Light (2017), her debut album—it functions as an ideal entry point because it introduces both her voice and the breadth of her mantra practice without overwhelming. The album opens with fundamentals and builds a coherent listening experience that makes clear her approach: sparse, contemplative, with Sanskrit lyrics carried on a clear alto voice over minimal instrumentation (harmonium, light strings). From there, move to Into the Heart (2019), which deepens the meditation work and shows how her practice evolved over two years of focused release. For listeners drawn to her work during the pandemic, Coming Home and Lokah Samastah are more emotionally accessible entry points—Lokah Samastah in particular functions as a prayer for challenging times, framing mantra practice in contemporary language. If you want to sample across formats, her Insight Timer presence offers guided meditations and courses, which may suit learners who want context and teaching alongside the chanting itself. Finally, Beyond (2023), her most recent album and the most polished production-wise (produced by Anibal Kerpel and long-time collaborator Diego Marchionatti), represents her mature voice—it's worth returning to after you've heard the earlier work. Avoid starting with isolated singles unless a specific mantra name (like Ganesha Sharanam or Om Tare) resonates with you personally; the albums reward sequential listening.

Question 4

What makes Prashanti Paz distinctive compared to other devotional singers in the same space?

Accepted Answer

Most Western kirtan artists—even skilled ones—come to the practice as adults with little to no embedded study in the Buddhist or Hindu philosophical traditions they're chanting from; Prashanti Paz has spent over twenty years in rigorous, lineaged Buddhist study, including direct training with major Tibetan masters. This isn't incidental background; it informs every choice in her music. Her voice carries the restraint and precision of someone trained in meditation and chanting practice, not entertainment-oriented vocal technique; she's not performing vocal acrobatics or high-energy group energy. Her arrangements are conspicuously minimal compared to contemporary kirtan albums; there's no synth, no drum machine, no layered vocal loops—it's her voice, harmonium, possibly strings, and silence. This aesthetic of restraint positions her closer to solo sadhana practice than to the communal, call-and-response energy of group kirtan. Additionally, her multilingual and multi-tradition approach is unusual; most Western devotional singers specialize (Hindu mantras, Buddhist chants, or Sikh kirtan), but Paz moves across traditions with equal authenticity and knowledge. Finally, her documentary work—including the soundtrack for the Netflix film From Stress to Happiness with Buddhist monk and author Matthieu Ricard—shows her willingness to translate mantra practice into mainstream contexts without diluting it.

Question 5

Who is Prashanti Paz's work NOT for?

Accepted Answer

Her music is not for listeners seeking high-energy group ritual or the social, call-and-response experience of traditional kirtan; her albums are fundamentally introspective and solo, designed for personal meditation practice or deep listening, not for singing along in a circle. If you're drawn to fast-paced, electronic-adjacent meditation music or ambient soundscapes with minimal vocal content, her work is too speech-forward and too focused on articulate Sanskrit pronunciation; her voice and the mantras are the center, not textural background. Listeners who prefer her contemporary heart songs (Coming Home, A New Day) over the traditional mantras should know that the bulk of her catalog is explicitly in Sanskrit, drawing on East Asian religious traditions—there's minimal English-language content and minimal crossover into pop sensibility. Her teaching style and approach, while accessible, assume some openness to contemplative practice and Buddhist philosophy; she's not offering secular wellness or mindfulness-lite. Additionally, students looking for a charismatic, highly personal teaching presence with frequent videos or podcasts may find her presence more understated; she prioritizes the practice itself over personal celebrity. Finally, anyone seeking high production value in a contemporary studio sense may be disappointed by the intentional austerity of her arrangements—there are no orchestral swells, no lush synth beds, no dynamic vocal processing. Her work rewards patient, repeated listening, not casual background play.

Question 6

How can I follow Prashanti Paz's upcoming events, releases, and travel?

Accepted Answer

Currently, the most reliable channels are her official website (prashantipaz.com), which would list tour dates and retreat offerings, and her Spotify artist profile, which auto-notifies followers of new releases. She released Shakti Gayatri as recently as February 2026, signaling ongoing musical activity. Her YouTube channel (@prashantipaz) is another direct source for new music videos and potentially teaching content. Insight Timer, where she offers courses and guided meditations, may also announce workshops or special programs. She's also on Apple Music, which can notify of new releases alongside Spotify. Follow her across these platforms to catch announcements; given that she's based in The Hague and has international lineage connections (Tibetan teachers, a background spanning Argentina, Brazil, and the United States), her live events likely span multiple continents. However, note that as of now, no major tour dates are publicly listed, so checking her website and social channels directly for current information is essential.

Question 7

What does Prashanti Paz's music actually sound like—instruments, voice, pacing?

Accepted Answer

Prashanti Paz's voice is alto, clear, and meditative—it prioritizes clarity of Sanskrit pronunciation and emotional restraint over vocal virtuosity or warmth. The bio describes it as luminous and peaceful, and indeed the pacing across her albums is slow, grounded in the natural breath rhythm of chant practice; there's no driving rhythm section, no urgency. Instrumentation is minimal: harmonium (the traditional hand-pump accordion used in Hindu and Sikh devotional music) is the primary accompaniment, often alone, with sparse string arrangements added on some tracks. Her production choices emphasize silence and breathing space; listeners encounter pauses between phrases that allow the mantra syllables to resonate. The overall aesthetic is sparse, contemplative, and what you might call chamber music for chanting—intimate, inviting close listening rather than background play. Her albums Inner Light and Into the Heart exemplify this: the production is warm but deliberately restrained, allowing the human voice and the simplicity of the mantra to carry the entire emotional weight. On Beyond (2023), produced by Anibal Kerpel and long-time collaborator Diego Marchionatti, the production is slightly fuller without abandoning restraint, but the core aesthetic remains: her voice as the primary instrument, supported, not surrounded.

Question 8

What are the essential Prashanti Paz albums to know?

Accepted Answer

The trilogy of full-length albums—Inner Light (2017), Into the Heart (2019), and Beyond (2023)—represents her complete, mature work and should be heard in order if possible. Inner Light is the entry point, establishing her voice and approach with 10 tracks that function as a comprehensive introduction to her mantra practice. Into the Heart (2019, 9 tracks) deepens the meditation work and shows her practice expanding and maturing; it was released just before the pandemic, capturing a moment of deepening practice before the shift to heart songs. Beyond (2023, 7 tracks) is her latest and most polished work, produced by Anibal Kerpel and Diego Marchionatti, and it represents a crystallization of her voice and artistic vision after six years of releasing singles. Between the albums, numerous singles have been released that showcase specific mantras: Om Ganapataye and Om Asatoma (2018), Ganesha Sharanam (2022), Mere Ram (2022), Om Tare (2023), and most recently Shakti Gayatri (2026). The pandemic releases—Lokah Samastah (2020), Coming Home (2021), and A New Day (2021, featuring Kevin Johansen)—are important for understanding her evolution into heart songs and contemporary composition, but they're supplementary to the core mantra work. Start with Inner Light, move through Into the Heart, then Beyond; approach the singles as explorations of specific practices or moments rather than essential listening.

Question 9

What instruments and collaborators does Prashanti Paz typically work with?

Accepted Answer

The harmonium is her primary instrumental accompaniment, played in the traditional style that accompanies mantra and kirtan practice; it grounds her vocal line and provides the familiar sonic backdrop for the Sanskrit chants. String arrangements feature on many tracks but are always minimal—supporting her voice rather than dominating—and are likely arranged and performed by session musicians, though specific credits aren't detailed in available data. Her long-time collaborator is Diego Marchionatti, who appears to be a consistent presence in her recordings and co-produced Beyond (2023) alongside Anibal Kerpel, a producer known for sophisticated world music and contemporary composition work. The inclusion of Kevin Johansen on A New Day (2021)—a pandemic-era heart song—shows her willingness to collaborate with contemporary songwriters when moving beyond traditional mantras. For the Netflix documentary soundtrack From Stress to Happiness, she worked with the production and composer team behind that film, collaborating indirectly with Buddhist monk and author Matthieu Ricard. Her production choices emphasize acoustic, traditional instruments over electronic elements; there's no drum machine, no synth, no heavy contemporary production. This restraint is aesthetic, not budgetary—it reflects her commitment to the contemplative, lineaged approach to mantra practice.

Question 10

Are there Prashanti Paz songs or tracks specifically suited for meditation, yoga practice, or ceremony?

Accepted Answer

Nearly all of her material is designed for meditation and spiritual practice, not casual listening, so the line between meditation and non-meditation tracks is less clear than with most Western artists. That said, certain tracks and albums are more explicitly meditative in intention: Inner Light as a whole album and Into the Heart are constructed as complete meditation experiences, meant to be heard sequentially in a single sitting. Individual mantras like Om Asatoma and Om Ganapataye are invocative chants meant to be repeated or used as focal points for sitting practice; Om Tare is a mantra to Tara, a Buddhist deity associated with compassion and swift protection, making it especially suited for dedicated Buddhist practice or altar use. Lokah Samastah, released during the pandemic, is explicitly framed as a prayer for challenging times and serves both meditative and ceremonial functions—it has been used in group meditation settings. Ganesha Sharanam (2022), addressing the Hindu deity Ganesha, is traditionally chanted at the beginning of ceremonies and practices to invoke protection and remove obstacles, making it ideal for opening yoga classes or meditation retreats. Shakti Gayatri (2026) draws on the Gayatri mantra tradition, one of the most ancient and widely respected mantras in Hindu practice, and would be appropriate for serious practice contexts. Her heart songs—Coming Home, A New Day—are more personal and introspective but still meditative in pace and intention, suited for reflective practice or healing work rather than high-energy yoga flows.
