2026 Body & Soul Art Intensive with Alex Grey & Allyson Grey at Chapel of Sacred Mirrors

The 2026 Body & Soul Art Intensive is a creative workshop weekend at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (CoSM) in Wappingers Falls, New York, led by the visionary artists Alex Grey and Allyson Grey. It centers on painting and figure drawing, and it suits artists and art-curious people who want to work alongside two painters who have spent decades treating art as a devotional, shared practice.

What to Expect

The intensive runs from a Friday evening to a Sunday afternoon: it opens at 5:00pm on Friday and closes at 2:00pm on Sunday. The program is listed under painting and figure drawing, so expect time with brush and pencil and with the human form as a subject.

The setting shapes the tone. CoSM is described as a visionary art sanctuary and interfaith church, a place built so that making and viewing art can be a participatory, contemplative act. Beyond that, the specific session plan is not laid out, so come ready to work and to learn from the artists in the room.

About Alex Grey

Alex Grey, born in 1953, is a painter and spiritual teacher whose anatomical visionary art has become a visual language for contemporary mysticism. He works across painting, sculpture and installation, rendering the nervous system, chakras and luminous body as a single map of human consciousness. His work draws on medical illustration, religious iconography and psychedelic phenomenology, and comes from a lineage that joins Western anatomy with Eastern tantric philosophy.

His signature technique layers translucent figures to show skeleton, musculature, organs and energy meridians in one composition. He calls the resulting paintings the "Sacred Mirrors," images meant to serve as aids to meditation and self-recognition. His grounding in anatomical specificity, rather than abstraction, sets his practice apart from other visionary artists. For a weekend that includes figure drawing, that attention to the body is a fitting guide.

About Allyson Grey

Allyson Grey is a painter and social sculptor who co-founded the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors with Alex Grey. Her work bridges abstract painting, sacred geometry and social practice, and she uses art as a tool for community building and the expansion of consciousness. Her canvases are built from geometric grids, linear fields and what she calls "Order" and "Chaos" systems, relying on repetition, color gradation and structure to evoke meditation and contemplation. Where Alex's visual language is anatomical, hers is rooted in pattern and seriality.

Together, the two have spent decades creating physical and conceptual spaces where art becomes a devotional and participatory experience.

CoSM sits in Wappingers Falls, New York, in the Hudson Valley, and it is the home of the Greys' work and community. The grounds also include the Entheon, which is part of the general visit. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
