Harville Hendrix

Harville Hendrix was born in 1935 in Statesboro, Georgia. An ordained Baptist minister, he earned his BA from Mercer University in 1957 and his BD from Union Theological Seminary in 1961. He later completed an MA and PhD in psychology and religion from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago. He served as a professor at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University before founding and presiding over The Institute for Relationship Therapy in New York.

Hendrix is best known for cocreating Imago Relationship Therapy with his wife, Helen LaKelly Hunt, Ph.D., and developing the concept of "conscious partnership." Together, they cofounded Imago Relationships International, a nonprofit organization that has trained more than 2,500 therapists and educators in more than 60 countries. Hendrix and Hunt are coauthors of Getting the Love You Want: A Guide for Couples, a New York Times bestseller that has sold more than 4 million copies worldwide.

With over 25 years of experience working with couples, Hendrix has become a prominent public figure in relationship therapy, appearing 17 times on the Oprah Winfrey Show and numerous other national television programs to publicize Imago Relationship Therapy and the concept of conscious relationships.
