Malte Marten Handpan Concert at Hibernia Theater

Malte Marten brings his handpan to Prague for an evening of live sound healing at Hibernia Theater, part of his Healing Frequencies Tour. It is a seated concert for anyone who already listens to his music to fall asleep, to work or to meditate, and who wants to hear it in a room with other people. It suits those new to handpan music as well as long-time listeners looking for an unhurried evening of calm.

Malte plays with his trio. Conrado Molina joins on percussion and voice, and Bummela, a multi-instrumentalist and producer, completes the sound. The organizers describe the result as rich and spacious, intimate even in a large room.

What to Expect

The evening runs about two hours. Most shows on the tour start at 8 pm, and doors usually open 75 minutes earlier. The exact times are printed on your ticket.

The program is shaped from beginning to end rather than assembled as a simple setlist. The music, the silence between pieces and the stories Malte shares are all part of one continuous experience. The intention is simple: for two hours the outside world gets a little quieter, with no pressure, no rush and nowhere else to be. The handpan, a steel instrument played with the hands, has a warm, bell-like sound rich in overtones, which is a large part of why the music works so well for slowing down and breathing.

Malte says that nothing replaces the feeling of hearing this music together in one room, and the concert is built around that idea.

About Malte Marten

Malte Marten is a handpan artist, composer and teacher whose music has reached millions of listeners around the world. His path began in 2014, when he came across a video of the duo Hang Massive. He sold all the music equipment he owned as a beatmaker and DJ to buy his first handpan, and he later played on the streets of Berlin.

From 2015 to 2020 he toured with his former duo, Yatao. Teaching became a passion alongside performing, and the two gave workshops and retreats and co-founded the YataoShop, a place for people to take their first steps with the instrument. In 2021 the duo's project ended and Malte began his solo work, funding his first solo studio album through crowdfunding. His videos on Instagram and YouTube have since carried his music far beyond the concert hall. His work rests on one idea: that music can create space to slow down, breathe and reconnect with yourself.

Before You Go

No experience with handpan or meditation is needed. You only need to arrive, sit and listen.
