Descripción
Tulum Retreat is a beachside wellness retreat at Casa Violeta in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico, led by yoga teacher Erika Halweil. It is for anyone who wants to slow down, step out of daily routine, and spend several days near the sea with yoga, breath, rest, and good food. Guests choose the length of their stay: four, five, or six nights within the retreat window.
What to Expect
The days are built around ease. There are two practices each day, along with workshops, discussions, and a few surprise activities. Between them is plenty of unstructured time to rest, swim, and take in the coast. The organizer describes the retreat as an invitation to bring playfulness and open-heartedness, to step away from habitual patterns, and to let each day begin with the sunrise, which you can watch from steps outside your room.
An indigenous sweat lodge ceremony is offered as an optional part of the stay, and each guest's stay includes a one-hour massage. The themes running through the week are the warmth of the sun, the sound of the sea, the flavors of the Yucatan, and a return to your own body, breath, and mind.
About Erika Halweil
Erika Halweil began teaching yoga in 1998. Her teaching is supported by ongoing study of the mind and body and of the eight-limbed path described in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. She shares this practice in the Hamptons with her husband, Corey De Rosa, at Tapovana Healing Center and at Yoga Shanti, and she teaches privately in New York City, where she grew up. She is grateful to her teachers, among them Tim Miller and Eddie Stern.
Her classes bring together some theory and philosophy, breath work, and purposeful movement, including core and back strengthening.
The Setting
The retreat takes place at Casa Violeta on the Tulum coast, where lodging for the full retreat is on site. Rooms sit just steps from the beach, so sunrise is part of the daily rhythm. The organizer speaks of the land, sea, and air of this stretch of coast, and of the warm hospitality of Casa Violeta.
Meals are simple and unhurried: a light breakfast, brunch, and an afternoon snack each day, plus dinner on the opening and closing nights. Other dinners are taken off site.
