Om Vardhanam Namah: The Law of Giving Mantra Explained

Some recordings ask to be read; this one asks to be listened to, and then gives back very little to hold onto. "Om Vardhanam Namah," a five-and-a-half-minute live session posted by Sukha TV Global in August 2020, is marked as Law 2, the Law of Giving, within a "Seven Spiritual Laws of Success" series. Its description supplies the mantra, a one-line essence ("I am the nourisher of the universe and the universe nourishes me"), and the hashtag #deepak. The recording itself is mostly music, laughter, and a repeated, half-heard refrain. This piece looks at the idea the video is built around, what the mantra's words point toward, and what a listener can realistically take from it.

What is actually on the recording?

The auto-generated captions are the clearest evidence of the audio. They render the opening as laughter and musical swells, then settle into a loose, looping refrain of words like "more," "nothing more," and "comparing." Some lines are plainly garbled, so any attempt to quote the speaker would be guesswork. What is audible is the shape of the session: a group opening, a long musical stretch, a moment of applause, and a closing fragment that trails off into "of the rest." There is no spoken lecture on giving that the captions preserve.

That matters for readers. If you press play expecting an explanation of the law, you will mostly hear a chant being sung and held. The value, if there is one, lies in repetition and in the words the group returns to, rather than in an argument made from the front of the room.

Why is giving the second law?

The essence line does the conceptual work the audio does not. "I am the nourisher of the universe and the universe nourishes me" turns giving from a transaction into a loop. The person who gives is not drained by the act; the act is a way of feeding the wider whole, and the whole feeds back. The sentence has two halves that mirror each other, and the law lives in the space between them.

This is a useful lens because it resists the common reading of "giving" as a bargain, in which you hand something over so that something comes back to you on a schedule. The essence statement does not promise a return. It describes a relationship in which giving and receiving are two movements of the same current. Whether a listener takes it as spiritual metaphor or as a working principle, the sentence asks the same question: where in your life are you the one who nourishes, and where are you the one being nourished?

What does om vardhanam namah mean?

The mantra is short and built from three parts. "Om" is the opening syllable that appears at the start of many Sanskrit chants. "Vardhanam" is commonly rendered as growth or increase, and it is the word that gives this mantra its association with abundance. "Namah" is a salutation, usually translated as a bow or an offering of respect. Read together, the phrase is a bow toward growth, a way of addressing increase with reverence rather than grasping.

That reading fits the Law of Giving neatly. A mantra about growth paired with a law about giving suggests that increase is not something to hoard. It is something to honor by letting it move. The chant does not explain this; it places the listener inside the word and lets the sense accumulate through repetition.

How should a listener approach this session?

Treat the recording as a container, not a lesson. Put the essence line in front of you before you press play, then let the chanting carry you through the long musical passages. When the refrain returns, notice which word pulls at you most. "More" and "nothing more" sit close to the law's question about abundance; "comparing" sits close to the habit of measuring your share against someone else's. Those are the places where the chant can work on you, if it works at all.

Be honest about what you came for. If you want a teacher walking through the Seven Spiritual Laws one at a time, this clip will not provide it. If you want a short, repetitive session anchored in a single sentence about giving and being nourished, it does exactly that.

Where to go from here

The video's own description points to the performing band's website, sukhatheband.com, and to its Instagram and Facebook pages. The description also links to Hummingbird Yoga at hummingbirdyoga.org. For the wider framework, the #deepak hashtag suggests the series draws on Deepak Chopra's Seven Spiritual Laws of Success; the recording itself does not spell that out, so check that source directly. Listen to the session once for the sound, then once more with the essence line in mind. The mantra is short enough to return to, and that is perhaps the most practical thing it offers.

Preguntas Frecuentes

Om is the opening syllable common to many Sanskrit chants, vardhanam is usually translated as growth or increase, and namah is a salutation or bow. Together the phrase reads as a reverent bow toward growth and abundance.
The video labels this as Law 2 and gives its essence as "I am the nourisher of the universe and the universe nourishes me." The idea frames giving as a two-way flow in which the giver is also nourished, rather than a transaction with a guaranteed return.
The video's hashtags include #deepak, and its title references the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, a framework Deepak Chopra is associated with. The recording itself does not explain that connection, so check the original source for the full framework.
The essence line does not mention money or set any exchange rule. It describes giving and receiving as parts of a single current, so the law is best read as a question about where you nourish and where you are nourished.
Not one that the captions preserve. The auto-generated transcript shows mostly music, laughter, and a repeated refrain, so the session works as a chant rather than a talk.
The video runs about five and a half minutes, posted by Sukha TV Global on August 23, 2020, and has around 21,000 views.
