Picture a room with the door closed, a few minutes before the day begins. You are sitting upright, breathing in through the nose, and letting a single sustained vocal tone leave your body. The tone is the whole practice. As it rolls on, you hold in your mind the thing you want most: a steadier relationship, a body that has been slow to heal, a job, a sense of security. That is the scene Dr. Wayne Dyer asks his viewers to build in a short Hay House video from December 2014, a 20-minute guided sound meditation he presents as something to do every single morning. It is simple to describe and demanding to practice, and it rests on a claim that deserves a closer look: that a sound, held long enough and aimed with enough intention, can shape what shows up in your life.

What is Wayne Dyer's sound meditation for manifesting?

Dyer frames the practice as a daily ritual rather than a one-time exercise. He asks listeners to find a private place where they won't be interrupted, a space where they can make the sound fully without worrying about who might hear it. The instruction is specific: you make the sound, you think about what you would like to manifest, and you stay with that intention for the full twenty minutes.

He is generous about what that intention might be. In the opening section (around 0:10 and 1:00 in the video) he lists a range of possibilities: a divine relationship or an improved one, healing for a part of the body that has resisted it, overcoming an addiction, losing weight, abundance, a new job or a promotion, and the removal of scarcity in favor of "a stronger sense of security." He also names lower blood pressure, less stress, and more peace. The breadth matters. Dyer is not describing a narrow technique for one goal. He is describing a container into which almost any longing can be poured.

The first demand he makes is not about sound at all. "I'd like you to suspend all doubt and be willing every morning to begin your day with a 20-minute" meditation, he says at about 2:09. Willingness and the suspension of doubt come before the tone. For a practice whose stated outcome is manifestation, that ordering is revealing: the sound is a vehicle, and the attitude you bring to it is the fuel.

Where does the sound come from, and why does it travel from the root to the third eye?

Dyer locates the practice in what he calls "the ancient wisdom that comes from the far east, where they taught the meditators how to use this sound" (about 2:09 in the video). He does not name a specific lineage, text, or teacher in this talk, and it is worth being clear about that. What he does claim is more concrete: the sound should travel "from the root chakra to the third eye," and then begin to radiate outward.

That path is the mechanical heart of the meditation. Dyer instructs you to let the energy move up from the base of the spine to the point between the eyebrows, the area associated with the third eye in many contemplative traditions. Around the five-minute mark he guides the listener to "feel it going out through the chakra of the third eye between your eyes and eyebrows," and to "clear the channel between the root chakra and the third eye." The imagery is physical, almost plumbing-like: a channel that must be opened, a current that must flow, an outlet through which intention leaves the body.

He also describes what he thinks happens over time. "After 20 minutes of doing this your identification with the material world will almost be eliminated," he says (about 2:42). You will feel "lighter, clearer, more centered, more focused." And, in the line that gives the video its title, "you will begin to see manifesting and materializing in your world that which you concentrate on." That is a strong promise, and it is his promise, not a finding he backs with data in the video. Treat it as the claim of a teacher describing his own practice.

How do the affirmations change the meditation?

Around the halfway point (about 9:39 in the video) Dyer shifts the session. He keeps the sound going but begins to speak affirmations, and this is where the practice becomes more than breath and tone. The lines he offers are worth reading slowly, because they are doing the philosophical work that the sound alone cannot.

At about 10:27 he says: "I am totally responsible for everything that happens to me in my life." He follows it with a reframe of the past: "my past is nothing more than the trail that I have left behind," and "what drives my life today is the energy that I generate in each of my present moments." Responsibility, in this reading, is not blame. It is the recognition that the present moment is where the generating happens.

Other lines push in the same direction. "I rid myself of my doubts by remembering that there's a valid reason for everything that happens." "I realized that I'm always free to let go and observe my life." "My judgments prevent me from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances." And, around 17:19, one of the most direct statements in the talk: "I know that I am already whole and I need not chase after anything in order to be complete." That sentence is the emotional center of the whole session. It reframes manifestation not as acquisition, a grasping for the thing you lack, but as a completeness from which the desired thing may come.

The affirmations end with a commitment to the collective: "I will work this day at my purest intentions for the highest good of all," and "I will radiate my sacred self outward for the collective good of all." Dyer's manifesting is not a private wish list. It is oriented outward, toward what he calls the highest good.

What does the practice ask of the person doing it?

The honest answer is discipline and attention, which are harder to deliver than a tone. Dyer asks for twenty minutes, every morning, in a private space, with doubt set aside. He asks you to feel the desire, not merely think about it: "I feel the desire of what you want to manifest, feel it as you do the meditations." He repeatedly tells the listener to feel the object of desire going out through the third eye. The emphasis on feeling, rather than thinking, is consistent throughout.

There is also a quiet caution embedded in the affirmations. "I do not need to dominate anyone in order to be spiritually awake," Dyer says at about 18:01. Manifestation here is not a technique for winning, controlling others, or extracting outcomes. The practice pairs desire with humility, and it asks the practitioner to notice when judgment or the urge to dominate creeps in.

The video closes with a return to the sound, a deep breath, and a list of sacred names. Dyer says the sound is "the sacred sound of creation and manifestation," and he names "God, Buddha, Krishna" among the voices that have carried it. His final statement, at about 21:10, is the line to take with you: "You are the creator of your life. You will manifest in your life today that which is accompanied by this sound as it radiates out."

How should a skeptic approach a practice like this?

Dyer's claims are large. Healing a body part, overcoming addiction, and attracting abundance are presented as outcomes of a practice he describes as ancient, without evidence offered in the video. A reader who wants to test the practice should keep two things separate: what the meditation reliably does for attention and mood, and what its proponents say it does for the material world. The first is measurable in your own experience. The second is a belief system the video asks you to hold.

Even so, the practice has real craft in it. A sustained tone, a steady breath, twenty minutes of sitting with intention, and a set of affirmations that re-center responsibility and wholeness: these are elements found across many contemplative disciplines. Dyer's contribution is the arrangement, and the insistence that the arrangement be practiced daily rather than occasionally.

Where to go from here

If you want to try the practice, start with the instructions as Dyer gives them. Choose a private room. Pick one clear intention, not a list. Breathe in, then let the tone out, and feel it travel from the base of the spine toward the point between the eyebrows. Hold the desire with feeling for the first stretch, then move into the affirmations, and close with the breath and the sacred names.

Watch the full video to hear the tone and the cadence in Dyer's own voice, since much of the practice lives in the sound itself and no transcript can carry it. Then give it a set period, perhaps a month of mornings, and notice what changes in your attention, your stress, and your sense of responsibility for your days. That is the one part of the claim you can test without taking anyone's word for it.

[0:10] and what I'd like to do here is have you

[0:15] use this meditation every single morning

[0:18] and while we do this meditation together

[0:22] I will actually do the sound and ask you

[0:25] to do it with me you will find it best

[0:29] if you can find a private place a place

[0:33] where you're not going to be interrupted

[0:34] a place where you can absolutely put

[0:37] this sound out into the world and not be

[0:42] afraid of other people listening to it

[0:46] and as you're doing the sound I'd like

[0:50] you to begin to think about what it is

[0:52] that you would like to manifest in your

[0:54] life some of the things that you may

[1:00] think about manifesting for yourself

[1:02] include perhaps a a divine relationship

[1:07] or an improved relationship perhaps you

[1:11] would like to be able to heal a part of

[1:13] your body that has been resistant to

[1:16] healing or health perhaps you would like

[1:19] to overcome an addiction of some kind

[1:22] perhaps you would like to lose weight

[1:28] perhaps you would like to be able to

[1:30] manifest abundance in your life or

[1:32] create a new job or get a promotion or

[1:34] or have the scarcity removed from your

[1:38] life and have it replaced by a stronger

[1:41] sense of security perhaps you would like

[1:45] to have less tension and lower blood

[1:48] pressure less stress and more peace in

[1:52] your life whatever it is that you would

[1:55] like to be able to manifest

[1:56] I'd like you to suspend all doubt and be

[2:03] willing every morning to begin your day

[2:09] with a 20-minute ahh

[2:13] meditation the ancient wisdom that comes

[2:19] from the far east where they taught the

[2:23] meditators how to use this sound and

[2:27] have it absolutely go from the root

[2:30] chakra to the third eye and to begin to

[2:36] feel it emanating outward and after 20

[2:40] minutes of doing this your

[2:42] identification with the material world

[2:44] will almost be eliminated you will find

[2:48] yourself feeling lighter clearer more

[2:53] centered more focused but most

[2:56] alarmingly to those of us who grown up

[2:58] in the West you will begin to see

[3:03] manifesting and materializing in your

[3:06] world that which you concentrate on

[3:10] in your arm meditation so you are taking

[3:15] the sound of creation is also the sound

[3:18] of the creator in all languages since

[3:22] the beginnings of recorded history and

[3:25] making it a part of your daily morning

[9:43] affirmations for the day I know in each

[9:49] moment I am free to decide

[10:00] Oh

[10:06] Oh

[10:19] ah no matter how much I protest I am

[10:27] totally responsible for everything that

[10:29] happens to me in my life

[10:40] ah

[11:04] my past is nothing more than the trail

[11:07] that I have left behind what drives my

[11:11] life today is the energy that I generate

[11:15] in each of my present moments

[11:55] that there's a valid reason for

[11:58] everything that happens

[12:33] go and observe my life

[12:43] ah

[12:45] ah

[12:50] ah

[13:05] all the more I listen the more profound

[13:12] the silence becomes

[13:56] ready to lift me up beyond the world I

[13:59] experience with my senses

Dyer asks you to find a private place, make a sustained sound, and hold one clear intention in mind for about 20 minutes each morning. The sound is meant to travel from the root chakra to the third eye, and he later guides listeners through a set of affirmations while continuing the tone.
In the video Dyer lists intentions including a divine or improved relationship, healing a resistant part of the body, overcoming an addiction, losing weight, abundance, a new job or promotion, and lower stress and blood pressure. He encourages listeners to bring whatever they want to manifest into the practice.
Dyer's affirmations include 'I am totally responsible for everything that happens to me in my life' and 'I am already whole and I need not chase after anything in order to be complete.' He also includes lines about letting go of doubt, judgment, and the need to dominate others.
Dyer describes letting the sound and energy move from the root chakra at the base of the spine up to the third eye, the point between the eyes and eyebrows, and then radiate outward. He calls this clearing the channel so intention can leave the body.
Dyer's video does not offer scientific evidence for manifesting outcomes like healing or abundance; these are presented as claims from his teaching. Practitioners can evaluate the meditation's effects on their own attention, mood, and stress over a set period.
Dyer recommends a 20-minute session every single morning. He frames it as a daily practice, and he says that after 20 minutes you may feel lighter, clearer, and more centered.
