Mother-and-daughter yoga retreats in North Zealand and Odsherred, Denmark

Friday, two o'clock, Dronningmølle. Guests settle into small heated huts at Seeds of Life, and at a quarter past three there is warm cool-mint tea and greens with fermented miso dressing. By half past four the opening circle has gathered in the round yoga hall, where the floor is heated. The weekend has begun. The retreats are the work of Signe Aagaard, a yoga teacher, body therapist and anthropologist trained at the University of Copenhagen. She has practised yoga for more than fifteen years and says she has taught over 1,500 classes. Her principle is that the pose is adapted to the person, not the other way round. Since 2020 she has hosted close to twenty retreats on Zealand, and many guests return year after year. She works from a small circuit of chosen places rather than one building. Seeds of Life in Dronningmølle is a small oasis run by its host, Siigurd, with a fireplace room and a garden. The food is organic and vegan, cooked from scratch and drawing on Nordic, Japanese and Indian kitchens. Stuebjerggård Refugium in Tisvilde sits at the edge of Tisvilde Hegn, ten minutes' walk from the sea, and has a hammam, sauna and cold plunge. Kirsebærgården in Odsherred has a bright yoga hall looking over the fields, and the group has the place to itself. On some weekends, her mother, Lisbeth Aagaard, a registered craniosacral therapist, joins her. At the Yin Yoga retreat at Kirsebærgården and the Yoga & Hammam retreat at Stuebjerggård, each guest receives an individual craniosacral treatment from Lisbeth, included in the price. The pages do not list it for the other retreats. The weekends run from Friday afternoon to Sunday midday. They combine Hatha, Yin and restorative yoga, Yoga Nidra, breathwork and guided meditation with outdoor wilderness baths, sauna and walks to the sea. Beginners and experienced practitioners are both welcome.
