Hazrat Inayat Khan

Hazrat Inayat Khan

Indian musician and Sufi master who introduced Universal Sufism to the West in 1910. Born into a family of Sufi musicians in Vadodara, he was a virtuoso of the vina before he became a mystic. After meeting his teacher Sayyid Muhammad Madani, he was sent westward with the instruction to "harmonize East and West with the music of thy soul." He founded the Sufi Order in the West, taught in Europe and America for seventeen years, and left behind The Sufi Message — fourteen volumes of teachings on love, harmony, beauty, and the unity of religious ideals.
