Winter Solstice Sound Meditation

A Winter Solstice Sound Meditation is a sound healing gathering held at Sanctuary Studio, timed to the shortest day and longest night of the year. It suits anyone drawn to a lying-down, listening-based practice that marks the turn toward returning light, and no prior experience with sound baths or meditation is asked for. The session is led by Eric of Resonance for Healing, a sound healing practitioner and instructor.

What to Expect

The winter solstice has been celebrated across many cultures as a time of renewal, hope and reflection, and often as a festival honoring the rebirth of the sun. This sound meditation takes up that theme. The studio is lit with candles and lanterns to celebrate the light of renewal, so the room itself becomes part of the experience.

The meditation runs 75 minutes, which includes time at the end for reintegration, so you are not asked to move straight from deep rest back into the day. It begins at three in the afternoon. Participants are invited to bring any items they would like to energize with the spirit of renewal.

About Eric of Resonance for Healing

Resonance for Healing is the sound healing work of Eric, who describes himself as a student of sound for over twenty years, both as a performer and a seeker of knowledge. He holds a degree in anthropology from the University of Georgia, where he specialised in indigenous healing practices. He is a certified sound healing practitioner and instructor with the Sound Healing Academy, and his other training includes ISTA certification as a therapeutic sound practitioner, drum healing study at The Strong Institute, mindfulness teacher certification through Yoga Renew, and a gong practitioner certificate from Yogi Mehtab. He is also a drummer and percussionist for Chikomo Marimba.

Eric has travelled the world experiencing different cultural ways of seeing, and says this brought many beautiful sounds into his life and a deep respect for tradition.

Before You Go

Mats, blankets and eye coverings are available at Sanctuary Studio, so you can arrive with nothing in hand. If you have a favorite yoga mat, light blanket or eye pillow, you are welcome to bring your own. Space for these gatherings can be limited, so it is worth reserving ahead.
