Beschreibung
The Life Practice Program (LPP) is an online meditation program led by Shinzen Young, the American mindfulness teacher known for Unified Mindfulness. Each session pairs Shinzen with a guest, and the invitation is to take your practice beyond the cushion and into the rest of your life. It suits meditators who want a regular, guided connection to a teacher and a community, wherever they live.
The program runs weekly, on Wednesdays, and everything takes place online.
What to Expect
Each week Shinzen Young is joined by a guest for that week's program. The focus is on bringing meditation into daily life rather than keeping it to formal sitting time. The format is a recurring weekly gathering, so it works as an ongoing practice rhythm rather than a one-off event.
The same community also offers other online opportunities alongside the weekly program. These include the Home Practice Program, a weekend of meditation retreat offerings held by conference call, led by Shinzen or by trained Unified Mindfulness teachers and coaches. There are also virtual retreats hosted with Vipassana Support International, and an annual immersion experience. They are separate offerings from the weekly LPP.
About Shinzen Young
Shinzen Young is an American mindfulness teacher and neuroscience research consultant. He is known for Unified Mindfulness, his systematic approach to categorizing, adapting and teaching meditation. That work has led to collaborations in contemplative neuroscience with Harvard Medical School, Carnegie-Mellon University and the University of Vermont. He is co-director of the Science Enhanced Mindful Awareness (SEMA) Lab at the University of Arizona.
His interest in Asia began at 14, when he chose to attend a Japanese ethnic school in his native Los Angeles. He majored in Asian languages at UCLA and then entered a PhD program in Buddhist Studies at the University of Wisconsin. For his thesis research he lived for three years as a Shingon (Japanese Vajrayana) monk at Mount Koya, Japan, where he received the name Shinzen.
Before You Go
The program is held online, so all you need is a way to connect from home. Take it as a weekly practice companion: if you already meditate and want to carry that practice into work, relationships and ordinary days, the Life Practice Program is built for exactly that.
