Beschreibung
This free yoga and mindfulness class in Lilly, Pennsylvania, is led by Rachel Allen of YogaSong at the Lilly-Washington Public Library. It is a monthly community class built around wellness, mindfulness and a sense of belonging, and it is open to people of varying abilities. Anyone curious about yoga in a relaxed, local setting is welcome to come along.
What to Expect
The class runs for one hour in the evening, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. It focuses on yoga and mindfulness with an emphasis on community, so the room is meant to feel welcoming rather than demanding. Because people of varying abilities are invited, you can move at the level that suits you.
Rachel Allen's classes are generally theme-based, weaving together yogic philosophy, breathwork, asana, live music and meditation. Music sits at the heart of her teaching, and she also leads community singing and sound healing using chant, mantra and free movement.
About Rachel Allen
Rachel Allen is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, Certified Music Practitioner, Sound Healer and Reiki Master. She works from a trauma informed, social justice framework and holds a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology. Based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, she serves the greater Pittsburgh region and also works with individuals and organizations virtually.
Her work merges music, yoga and community, with the aim of creating healthy, diverse and joyful communities. Some of the songs she shares are her own compositions, while others come from her years of group singing across cultures and from the Yogic tradition.
The Setting
The class takes place at the Lilly-Washington Public Library, at 101 Memorial Drive, Suite 2, in Lilly, Pennsylvania. Holding a yoga class in a public library keeps it close to the community it is meant to serve.
Before You Go
The class is free. Bring a yoga mat or towel and any props you like to use. A limited number of mats and props are available at the library, so if you rely on particular equipment, bringing your own is the safest choice. Beginners and more experienced practitioners alike are welcome.
An RSVP is requested through the library. The program is funded through the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance 1889 Foundation Creative Health Impact Grant, which is what allows it to be offered at no cost.
