Beschreibung
This part-time 200-hour Yin and Yang yoga teacher training in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, blends Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin yoga with philosophy, anatomy, meditation and pranayama. It is held at Epic Yoga and Fitness and led by Alison Réaume, a yoga teacher, teacher trainer and somatic educator. It is meant for dedicated students who want to understand the practice more deeply, and for people who feel called to teach. You do not need to be sure you want to teach, and you do not need advanced postures.
What to Expect
The training runs across twelve in-person weekends in four modules: Foundations, Yang, Yin and Integration. The rhythm is three weekends on, then two weekends off, with a long summer break built in for absorbing and applying what you learn. In-person sessions run Friday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30pm, Saturdays from 12 to 6pm and Sundays from 11:30am to 5:30pm. On one final Module 2 Sunday, attendance runs from 8am to 5:30pm. On the off weekends you study at home or wherever suits you.
Breath, meditation and philosophy carry as much weight as posture and sequencing. You study classical yoga philosophy as a lived practice, work with pranayama, mantra and subtle-body practices, and explore functional anatomy and individual variation in how poses look and feel. The teaching approach is trauma-aware and consent-based, with an emphasis on choice, curiosity and nervous system awareness over performance. You experience the material in your own body first, then practise sequencing, cueing and adapting through teaching labs and ongoing practice teaching, so you can find a teaching voice that is your own.
Between weekends, expect roughly two to two and a half hours a week of guided self-study: recorded lessons or podcasts, readings, online anatomy learning, reflection and practice teaching. The summer break brings about 12 to 14 hours of guided assignments, continued anatomy study and monthly group coaching calls.
Two ways to take part are offered. The full training covers all four modules and leads to certification. The Yoga Immersion covers the first six weekends, Friday evenings and Saturdays only, for people who want to deepen their own practice without any expectation of teaching. Immersion students can move into the full program within the first two weekends, subject to availability, with tuition credited and missed teaching labs and coursework made up.
About Alison Réaume
Alison Réaume has spent more than 17 years teaching yoga and training teachers, and she teaches in Maple Ridge while based in the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver. She is a Certified Yoga Therapist and an experienced teacher who has trained over 200 yoga teachers internationally. Her approach grew out of a long period of pushing her body, and out of surgery at 28 to remove a large, life-threatening abdominal tumour. Recovery gave her a deep respect for the body's vulnerability and resilience. Her questions shifted from what she could make a body do to what we can learn by paying attention to it. That is the spirit of this training.
