[0:46] Mhm. Chakra deep ram masters.
[0:52] Something that happens
[0:55] as you grow
[0:57] and go deeper
[0:59] is you realize
[1:02] they are only as big as what you're
[1:03] staring at.
[1:05] Consciousness awareness
[1:08] is only aware what it's aware of.
[1:11] Period. You know that.
[1:13] You're not aware of what you're not
[1:14] aware of.
[1:16] The problem is you're not aware of very
[1:19] much
[1:21] when you're staring at your mind.
[1:23] When you're staring out through your
[1:25] senses.
[1:26] You don't realize how limited
[1:30] you are.
[1:31] Like how far can your senses see? How
[1:33] How far can you hear?
[1:35] How far can you see? How close does
[1:37] touch have to be? Smell?
[1:39] This is a very limited range that your
[1:42] senses pick up. And unfortunately,
[1:45] that's what you're aware of.
[1:48] And you say, "Well,
[1:49] that's just what I'm aware of. That's
[1:50] all there is." Well, it's not all there
[1:52] is. There's 700 billion zillion trillion
[1:55] quillion other things
[1:57] than what your senses can pick up.
[1:59] But throughout your life, you're only
[2:01] aware of the range that your senses pick
[2:04] up.
[2:06] And the same thing goes with your
[2:07] thoughts and your emotions.
[2:09] You have emotions.
[2:10] Well, so does everybody else in the
[2:12] world.
[2:13] All 8.3 billion of them. And so did
[2:15] everyone ever lived, and so will
[2:17] everyone who will ever live, all right?
[2:19] For the minute, it's pretty big place.
[2:21] And you have your emotions.
[2:23] How big is that world?
[2:25] How big is the world of your emotions?
[2:27] It's minuscule.
[2:30] In relationship to what is,
[2:33] it's nothing.
[2:35] And your thoughts.
[2:36] You have thoughts. How many?
[2:40] How many thoughts are going on right now
[2:42] everywheres
[2:44] other than yours?
[2:47] Come on.
[2:48] >> [snorts]
[2:48] >> Are you aware of those? No.
[2:50] So, look how small your world is.
[2:53] Can you take a breath and Am I crazy?
[2:56] Are you want to listen?
[2:57] It's tiny. Your awareness is only aware
[3:01] of your thoughts, your emotions, and
[3:04] what comes in through your senses.
[3:06] Which is
[3:07] not the tiniest fraction that could ever
[3:10] be discussed of what's going on.
[3:13] Yet, you think you're important.
[3:17] How can that be important?
[3:20] Fair enough. It's too small. It's too
[3:22] small for me.
[3:24] And you I I use the term statistically
[3:27] insignificant.
[3:29] That's what you are.
[3:30] Statistically insignificant. [laughter]
[3:33] You don't like what I'm supposed to be
[3:34] talking about, make you feel good. I'm
[3:36] telling you right now,
[3:38] I'm telling you right now,
[3:39] you let go of that stupidness of
[3:42] limiting yourself to what I talked
[3:44] about, you'll feel more than good.
[3:47] Man minus mind equals God.
[3:50] And that's just not mine.
[3:53] Consciousness that is not lost
[3:57] in focusing itself on this tiny tiny
[4:01] little drop of nothing
[4:03] is everything.
[4:06] So, it's not about talking yourself up.
[4:09] It's not about making yourself feel
[4:10] good.
[4:11] It's about dying to be reborn.
[4:15] Are you dying to be reborn?
[4:17] That's what I meant. I'm not over dying.
[4:20] I'm dying to be reborn. I can't wait.
[4:23] Not physically dying. I'm dying to
[4:27] experience who I am rather than what I'm
[4:30] staring at. As long as you're staring at
[4:33] you, I'm sorry.
[4:36] Let's What is it like to stare at you?
[4:39] You could tell me, couldn't you?
[4:41] What's it like to stare at you all day
[4:43] and all night and
[4:44] everything going on in there
[4:46] and worry.
[4:48] That's my favorite word, worry.
[4:50] What is worry? Where's there worry?
[4:53] All the galaxies go through space with
[4:55] black holes and people born and dying,
[4:57] and babies are made out of nothing. And
[4:59] I mean, like, what are you worried
[5:00] about? Seems to be pretty doing pretty
[5:02] darn good.
[5:04] All right? You're worried that it won't
[5:06] be the way that your thoughts want it to
[5:08] be.
[5:09] You're worried that you're staring at
[5:11] this tiny little thing, and you're
[5:13] worried that the outside world and
[5:16] everybody in it is not going to be the
[5:17] way it wants them to be.
[5:19] Or it might be the way you don't want it
[5:20] to be.
[5:21] Isn't that fun?
[5:23] Isn't it fun to be so uptight? To be so
[5:26] anxious? To be so self What is
[5:28] self-conscious? Are you ever
[5:29] self-conscious? Ever find find yourself
[5:30] being self-conscious?
[5:32] How did you do that? You're the self
[5:33] itself.
[5:35] You're everything. You're everywhere at
[5:37] all times.
[5:38] You are that which is staring
[5:41] at this tiny little thing that you call
[5:44] you.
[5:45] All right?
[5:47] You are much bigger than that. I'm not
[5:49] trying to belittle you.
[5:51] I'm trying to expand the limitlessness
[5:53] that you've made of yourself by staring
[5:55] on yourself.
[5:57] That's not what's going on. You are a
[5:59] very great being. You are
[6:02] Let's take Christ's words. I'm a nice
[6:04] Jewish Yogi, and I like Christ's words.
[6:07] Not a single thing he said in the Sermon
[6:08] of the Mount that as you've grown and
[6:10] grown and let go of yourself, you
[6:11] couldn't save yourself.
[6:13] Cuz it's true it's the truth. It's what
[6:15] spirituality is, letting go of yourself,
[6:17] serving others.
[6:18] What did he say? Right?
[6:21] As I sit by the throne of my father, so
[6:24] you shall sit by my throne.
[6:26] And these things which I do, you should
[6:27] do these and even greater things.
[6:29] A throne is a state of consciousness.
[6:31] That's the throne of the self. And he
[6:34] said, "As I sit there, you shall sit
[6:36] there also." And that's what all the
[6:38] great masters taught. That's what yoga's
[6:40] all about. That's what everything is.
[6:42] You're a very great being. Not someday
[6:45] you will be a great being.
[6:47] You are a very great being staring at
[6:49] something that's not so great.
[6:51] And that's the only problem.
[6:53] The problem is not how do I expand my
[6:55] consciousness? It's how do I stop
[6:57] contracting my consciousness?
[7:00] Do you see the difference?
[7:01] Right now, you are where the great
[7:03] masters are.
[7:04] Why? You're one with God. You You're a
[7:06] God. You're God consciousness.
[7:08] Consciousness is a very very holy thing.
[7:11] It's the most holy thing in the whole
[7:12] universe.
[7:14] Take the most precious diamond or jewel
[7:17] that could ever be, okay? And don't be
[7:19] conscious.
[7:20] Which is more important? The jewel or
[7:22] that you have awareness?
[7:24] If you have no awareness, there's
[7:25] nothing.
[7:26] Consciousness is the gem. Consciousness
[7:28] is the entire meaning of life. Not what
[7:31] you're conscious of.
[7:33] Consciousness itself. What is it? What
[7:35] is consciousness?
[7:37] That is what the great masters
[7:39] meditated. Why would meditation What's
[7:42] that got to do with consciousness?
[7:43] Because you're conscious.
[7:46] The trouble is what you're conscious of.
[7:49] Right? You're conscious of your body.
[7:52] Are you your body? No, you're conscious
[7:54] of your body.
[7:56] How do you know you're not your body?
[7:58] Because my body goes through lots of sh-
[7:59] Were you here 10 years ago, 15, 20, 30
[8:02] years ago? Was your body the same? Were
[8:04] you 2 ft tall at one point? Your body
[8:07] keeps changing.
[8:09] Do you know it? Do you know it keeps
[8:10] changing? How do you know it? Because
[8:12] you're conscious.
[8:13] Consciousness does not change.
[8:16] Consciousness has never changed. It's
[8:18] called awareness. Not awareness of
[8:21] something, just awareness itself is the
[8:24] most important thing in all of creation.
[8:27] Why? Because if there's no awareness,
[8:29] there is no creation.
[8:30] Is there no creation? I don't know, it
[8:32] doesn't matter, no one knows. If you're
[8:35] conscious of there being no creation,
[8:36] you're conscious.
[8:38] I'll tell you a story I think in in I'll
[8:39] tell the show. You're in a room. There's
[8:42] lots of things in the room. There's a
[8:43] There's a whole party going on in the
[8:45] room. There's lots of people and then
[8:46] then food and music and all kinds of
[8:49] stuff going on. All right? Okay. Are you
[8:52] aware? Can you look around and you're
[8:53] aware? Yes. Okay.
[8:56] Take the people out.
[8:58] Are you still there?
[9:01] Still there? Piano's there, music's
[9:03] there, everything's still there. I see.
[9:04] So you're still aware. Now, take the
[9:06] people out. Are you aware there's no
[9:08] people?
[9:09] I'm trying to show you what awareness
[9:10] is. Now, take all the furniture out.
[9:13] Are you aware the room's empty?
[9:16] Wow.
[9:18] That's pretty nice of you. Nothing
[9:19] changed, did it? Not with you it didn't.
[9:22] What you're looking at, what you're
[9:23] aware of changed, but you that's aware
[9:27] are the one that's aware that there was
[9:28] stuff there, you're aware that nothing's
[9:30] there. Okay? So now awareness is pretty
[9:32] important stuff. Now, have the room go
[9:35] away. And let there just be empty space
[9:38] with stars floating around. Are you
[9:41] aware?
[9:43] Wow.
[9:44] That's pretty special stuff. Are you the
[9:46] same through all of that?
[9:47] Yes.
[9:48] So, awareness is the meaning of life.
[9:52] Without awareness, there is no meaning
[9:54] at all. There can't be.
[9:57] No, marriage marriage is the important
[9:59] part of life. There is no other person,
[10:01] there is no anything if you're not Okay,
[10:04] get married, but don't be aware of it.
[10:08] Are you married?
[10:10] I don't know.
[10:14] You are a very important being. How?
[10:16] Because you are aware. And awareness is
[10:19] the most important thing in the universe
[10:21] and tag, you're it. That's what you are.
[10:24] All right? Like, is it just being aware
[10:27] of the outside world? No, I showed you.
[10:30] Yes, there's the outside world.
[10:32] Are you aware of your thoughts?
[10:34] How do you know?
[10:35] I'm in here and I have thought There are
[10:37] thoughts in here. How do you know? Prove
[10:39] it.
[10:40] I don't have to prove it, do I? And you
[10:43] can't, by the way. Do you have emotions?
[10:45] Are you aware of these things called
[10:46] emotions?
[10:48] Wow. How did you get that awareness?
[10:51] It's what I am.
[10:53] I am the aware being that is in here
[10:57] aware of what I am aware of. There.
[11:01] In other words, I am that I am. Oh,
[11:03] that's what God answered Moses with the
[11:05] burning bush. Remember that? Who
[11:06] remembers that? All right? Who Who
[11:09] should he say Moses said to I'm going to
[11:11] go to the Pharaohs and let my people go.
[11:13] He Pharaoh's a pretty rude guy. He's a
[11:15] pretty strong guy. Who should I say what
[11:17] God sent me? They have lots of gods in
[11:19] Egypt. What God sent me? What did he
[11:21] say? I am that I am.
[11:24] I am that I am. How do you know you have
[11:26] thoughts? I know that I know.
[11:28] I am that I am. That's what you are.
[11:32] Then there's this stuff called what
[11:34] you're aware of. There's only one of
[11:36] you. Do you understand that?
[11:39] Right now, every moment you're aware of
[11:41] different things. Who is you?
[11:43] It's the same you.
[11:45] Were you aware yesterday?
[11:47] You sure?
[11:48] Were you in there yesterday?
[11:50] Were you in there 10 years ago?
[11:52] When you were 3 years old and you looked
[11:54] in the mirror,
[11:56] did you see the same thing you see now?
[11:58] No. Was it you looking?
[12:01] Okay?
[12:02] That's called awareness. There's another
[12:04] name for it, the self, the Atman.
[12:07] That's what they're talking about.
[12:09] They're not talking about something you
[12:10] read a book about.
[12:12] The Atman, the core, the essence, the
[12:13] soul.
[12:15] That's who you are.
[12:17] You're going to want to call the state
[12:18] of returning to the seat of self,
[12:21] self-realization.
[12:23] Knowing who you are instead of staring
[12:26] at something and then saying that's who
[12:28] I am.
[12:30] Isn't that really funny?
[12:32] Right? You are the one who's looking.
[12:34] You're the seer.
[12:37] So, you come back to
[12:38] Okay.
[12:40] How
[12:41] do enlightened beings
[12:43] One, I said, you know, you you sit with
[12:45] Christ, you're the same.
[12:47] What does it mean and how does one get
[12:49] there and
[12:50] is
[12:51] What's the meaning of everything?
[12:54] And you come there and you realize the
[12:55] yogis meditated. It was a great
[12:57] technique they they worked with. How
[12:59] would you know how to meditate? Okay.
[13:02] That's how you do it. You ready?
[13:03] Patanjali talks about this in Yoga
[13:04] Sutras.
[13:06] Right now,
[13:07] you're aware of what's coming in through
[13:09] your senses.
[13:11] But you're not just aware of it, you're
[13:13] distracted by it.
[13:15] You're distracted by words somebody
[13:17] said, you're distracted by something
[13:18] someone didn't say, you're distracted by
[13:20] a noise, you're distracted by the sun.
[13:22] Yes or no?
[13:24] Your senses come in and they pull the
[13:27] consciousness down to them. That's what
[13:29] distracted means. It doesn't stay at one
[13:32] place. It jumps around. What does? My
[13:35] awareness.
[13:36] All right? I can't make it stop. It just
[13:38] jumps around. I'm trying to read a book.
[13:40] I read three pages and then I realize I
[13:42] didn't read a single thing. I have to go
[13:43] back and read the pages again. Why?
[13:45] Because my awareness was not on what I
[13:48] was reading. Where was your awareness?
[13:50] Don't tell me. I don't want to know.
[13:52] Okay? You're distracted
[13:54] by objects of consciousness.
[13:57] Not distracted by consciousness.
[13:59] Consciousness is that which is
[14:00] distracted. You're distracted by objects
[14:03] of consciousness. So, when you're
[14:04] distracted by the outside world
[14:07] enough
[14:09] then the outside world seems like the
[14:10] most important thing to you. I was
[14:12] crying to say it.
[14:14] Is it the most important thing to you?
[14:16] No, I just told you your awareness is
[14:17] the most important thing to you.
[14:20] All right? You're not aware
[14:22] it's not there.
[14:23] Okay? So, maybe we better pay attention
[14:25] to our awareness instead of paying
[14:27] attention to what we're aware of. Can I
[14:29] just say that 40 times?
[14:32] Can I put on a headset on you as you
[14:34] walk around? It's who's aware, not what
[14:37] you're aware of. Yes, there's gold. Yes,
[14:39] there's money. Yes, there's people. Yes,
[14:40] there's the people like you. Yes,
[14:41] there's people don't like you. So what?
[14:44] It's just something you're aware of. Are
[14:46] you aware this person doesn't like you?
[14:48] You aware this person thinks you walk on
[14:49] water? You aware this person's Jewish
[14:51] and that person's Islam and that
[14:52] person's Christian? Are you aware? Are
[14:54] you aware? Okay.
[14:56] What you're aware of is meaningless.
[14:59] It's ridiculous. It comes and goes.
[15:02] You're invested in what you're aware of
[15:04] instead of being invested in what part
[15:07] of you is aware.
[15:09] Cuz that's what matters. Who's aware?
[15:12] And now we're talking about the outside
[15:13] world. Okay? Patanjali starts off by
[15:16] saying there's this thing called
[15:17] pratyahara. What is pratyahara?
[15:21] Okay? Pratyahara in simplest sense,
[15:23] means withdrawing your awareness from
[15:26] your senses.
[15:28] Withdrawing your awareness from your
[15:30] senses. We just said, you're aware,
[15:32] you're aware being, and you're aware
[15:34] what your senses are sending in. Do you
[15:36] have to be?
[15:38] Well, we already noticed if she's really
[15:40] attractive, if she is, I can't get my I
[15:42] can't get my eyes off of you. And I'm
[15:45] sitting here staring at her, where did
[15:47] you guys go?
[15:50] And then I but I go, "Oh, he's still
[15:51] here."
[15:53] Can I do that? So, your awareness
[15:56] focuses on different objects outside,
[15:59] and you get distracted by them. Again,
[16:02] what does distraction not a dirty word.
[16:04] I have found distraction to be a very
[16:05] spiritual word.
[16:06] Cuz it lets you understand what's going
[16:08] on.
[16:09] Distraction means my consciousness is
[16:11] drawn
[16:13] someplace other than where it was.
[16:15] I got distracted.
[16:18] So beautiful. Did that happen to you?
[16:20] Ever get distracted?
[16:22] Something outside is drawing your
[16:24] awareness towards it, and that means you
[16:27] were distracted from where the conscious
[16:29] was a moment ago.
[16:31] All right. But we're talking about the
[16:32] outside world. So, withdraw your
[16:35] awareness from the senses. What does
[16:37] that mean? Pratyahara.
[16:39] It means that that doesn't happen.
[16:42] What doesn't happen? The outside world
[16:44] doesn't distract your consciousness.
[16:47] Wow.
[16:48] I don't know if I can take that on. You
[16:50] take it on every single night when you
[16:52] go to sleep.
[16:54] You enter pratyahara. And it's not
[16:57] willingly. Every single night when you
[16:59] fall asleep, your consciousness is no
[17:02] longer distracted by your senses.
[17:04] People can walk in your room, and people
[17:06] can talk, no matter how deep a sleeper
[17:08] you are, right? Sometimes you sleep so
[17:10] deep somebody could try to shake you and
[17:11] not wake up.
[17:13] Okay? You've proven that there's such a
[17:15] state called withdrawing your
[17:18] consciousness from the senses. It sounds
[17:21] weird, but you do it all the time.
[17:24] Well, not all the time cuz sometimes you
[17:25] can't fall asleep. Why? Cuz you're
[17:27] distracted by your senses.
[17:30] And we'll go deeper in a minute.
[17:32] That's how much I understand pratyahara.
[17:34] I don't want you to think yoga's hard.
[17:36] Your your senses do not always draw your
[17:38] consciousness out toward them. Either
[17:40] you're focused on one thing, you miss
[17:41] the rest, or you literally go
[17:44] back inside enough.
[17:46] Inside What's inside? Consciousness is
[17:48] inside. We'll do that in a minute.
[17:49] Right? So, the first stage of Patanjali
[17:53] calls meditation, that's not meditation.
[17:55] That's withdrawing your conscious from
[17:57] your senses. All right? Then what? Well,
[18:00] when you do that, guess where you find
[18:01] out you are being distracted by your
[18:04] thoughts
[18:05] and your emotions.
[18:07] But it's in the form of dreams.
[18:09] Do you have dreams?
[18:11] Are you aware you have dreams? How do
[18:12] you know? I don't know I have dreams. I
[18:14] don't believe you.
[18:16] Because I'm an aware being, and one
[18:18] thing I'm aware of is that there are
[18:20] these images that are passing before my
[18:23] consciousness. And I can get married in
[18:25] a dream and get and get old and die and
[18:27] get remarried and have 14 lives. Yes or
[18:29] no? I can fly in a dream, can't I? I can
[18:32] do all kinds of things.
[18:34] You're actually experiencing those
[18:36] things.
[18:37] They're experiences you're having, but
[18:38] they're not real. They're just real to
[18:41] you right then. Your awareness is aware
[18:43] of those thoughts exactly the same as
[18:46] it's aware of the outside world. It's
[18:48] just not coming through your senses.
[18:50] You do have dreams. Where?
[18:53] In your mind.
[18:55] So, you withdrew your awareness from
[18:57] your senses, and now all that's left
[19:00] We'll go deeper in a minute. All that's
[19:02] left is you have these images. And can
[19:06] you have emotions in a dream?
[19:08] Can you have emotions in a dream and
[19:10] wake up and you're crying your eyes out,
[19:12] and it just mess up your whole day.
[19:15] Nothing happened.
[19:17] >> [laughter]
[19:20] >> Oh, I love talking to you.
[19:22] What are we talking about?
[19:23] Consciousness. I've not talked about one
[19:25] single thing this entire talk so far
[19:27] except, will you please pay respect for
[19:29] consciousness? That's who you are. So,
[19:32] now your consciousness is going on in
[19:34] there.
[19:35] Where's the subconscious? I don't know.
[19:37] I don't care. Right? Is it You know what
[19:39] subconscious is? A place where before
[19:41] things happen outside that you couldn't
[19:43] handle, so you shove them down into this
[19:45] little room inside your mind, and now
[19:46] when you go to sleep, it goes, "Ah!"
[19:49] >> [laughter]
[19:49] >> Comes back out.
[19:52] It's very Freudian.
[19:54] Okay?
[19:55] So, you're in there and you're
[19:56] conscious. I mean, I'm focusing on
[19:58] consciousness.
[19:59] Like, okay, you go there have dream
[20:02] interpretation. Like, there's nothing
[20:03] wrong with you attracting what you want
[20:05] or trying to get what you want. That's
[20:06] fine. That stuff goes on outside.
[20:09] Inside,
[20:10] you go to dream interpreters and and
[20:12] prophets who can understand
[20:15] I don't.
[20:17] What do I care?
[20:19] I'm in here.
[20:20] Those are just images passing before
[20:22] your eyes. The reason you have to
[20:24] analyze them is because you suppressed
[20:27] all this stuff. You understand that? And
[20:29] so, now it's trying to come back up, and
[20:31] therapists can help you try to
[20:33] understand what you pushed down there.
[20:36] I'm a yogi. All I care about is, "Oh, I
[20:39] was aware that I died four times in my
[20:41] dream. Isn't that funny?" I'm just
[20:43] aware. Your awareness of them. That
[20:46] doesn't mean you don't do interpret. Do
[20:47] everything you need to do. Hear me? I'm
[20:49] serious. You know I'm that way.
[20:51] Everything, outside, inside. Go through
[20:54] what you need to go through until you
[20:55] find out you didn't need to go through
[20:57] it.
[21:02] Ever say, "Been there, done that"?
[21:05] What What mean? You wasted your time.
[21:07] know? You know what
[21:08] >> [laughter]
[21:10] >> But it doesn't mean that. It means I was
[21:12] distracted by that and I had to go
[21:15] through that either in my mind or
[21:18] emotions or in the outside world so that
[21:21] my consciousness caught on it's just
[21:24] something I was aware of.
[21:26] I went through this terrible divorce and
[21:28] for years and years and years and years
[21:30] it bothered me tremendously and so on
[21:33] and at one point I stepped back and said
[21:35] It's just life.
[21:37] You fall in love and then something
[21:38] happens you're not in love anymore. Ever
[21:40] notice? All right. It's just okay, fine.
[21:43] Uh
[21:44] Got married and got divorced. Got
[21:46] married [snorts] and didn't get
[21:47] divorced.
[21:48] What's the difference? Shh. Nothing.
[21:51] They're just things I'm aware of. I got
[21:53] married in Vegas and lasted for 3 hours.
[21:57] I set the record.
[21:59] All right? And now I'm aware that I'm
[22:01] proud of myself. You're just in there
[22:02] being aware.
[22:04] Okay? But you need to go through what
[22:06] you need to go through so you end up
[22:08] being there being aware instead of
[22:10] making thoughts and emotions and messing
[22:12] your whole life up cuz you couldn't
[22:14] handle what happened to you.
[22:16] I'll take a little segue here. That is
[22:18] how almost everybody lives their life.
[22:21] How? Life unfolds, it comes in and
[22:25] leaves impressions in my mind. Why? Cuz
[22:27] you couldn't handle what happened.
[22:30] You don't do that with the white lions
[22:31] or the clouds or people you don't know
[22:33] or cars that drive by. You don't make a
[22:35] big mishigas out of all this stuff.
[22:37] But if something distracts you enough,
[22:41] draws your consciousness down to it
[22:43] enough that you can't let it go. Who
[22:46] can't let it go? You in there. There's
[22:49] only one of you in there. You're the
[22:51] only one in there.
[22:53] So something happened and you in there
[22:56] got so distracted
[22:58] that you got caught.
[23:01] Your consciousness got so distracted
[23:02] that it got it got fixated. That's
[23:04] really what's happening. You got fixated
[23:06] on the fact, "Oh my gosh, she looks like
[23:08] my ex."
[23:09] Well, how long is that? 10 years ago.
[23:11] She's not your ex. Yeah, but the nose
[23:13] looks similar.
[23:15] Don't tell me you don't do that. So,
[23:17] your consciousness gets fixated, get
[23:19] drawn down, distracted so much so that
[23:22] it makes an impression on your mind that
[23:24] doesn't go away.
[23:26] Well, what's the mind for? Mind is part
[23:28] of the consciousness being able to
[23:30] experience what's going on in this
[23:31] world, coming all the way back, sending
[23:33] it back to you. And what it's supposed
[23:35] to be, and I don't want to tell you that
[23:37] cuz you're not there and you'll get mad
[23:38] at me, it's supposed to come in and go
[23:40] by. That's Adam and Eve. That's where
[23:42] Adam and Eve were.
[23:43] You're just God consciousness
[23:45] experiencing God's creation.
[23:48] You are God's consciousness experiencing
[23:52] God's creation.
[23:54] Not I am separate and I need to pray to
[23:56] God and
[23:57] you are God consciousness experiencing
[24:00] God's creation. That is what's going on
[24:03] all the time for everybody. That's all
[24:05] that's ever gone on.
[24:07] But God vibrated, whoa,
[24:10] and God quantum field, whoa, and all
[24:14] this got made. And then the
[24:16] consciousness said, "Oh boy, look what I
[24:17] made. I want to watch." And that's what
[24:19] you are. God's emissary experiencing
[24:22] this moment of creation.
[24:24] God's the deepest I can ever teach you.
[24:27] That's who you are. But the problem is
[24:30] you can't handle it. Who can?
[24:32] The consciousness got drawn down and
[24:34] started to see itself as separate.
[24:36] That's the fall from the garden.
[24:38] And now
[24:40] I'm aware of myself as a separate thing,
[24:43] and then these events are coming in and
[24:45] they get stuck. I I They don't get
[24:47] stuck. Excuse me. They don't get stuck.
[24:49] There's no glue in there. I push them
[24:51] away. I willfully do not want to have
[24:54] had that experience.
[24:55] Had an experience in your life you
[24:57] didn't to have?
[24:58] Is it still in there?
[25:00] >> Of course it's still in there.
[25:02] >> Are the white lines still in there? Are
[25:03] the clouds still in there? Are the
[25:05] people you don't know still in there?
[25:07] No, I can bring them back. I've memory.
[25:09] Computer has memory, too. All right? But
[25:11] they don't get stuck in there.
[25:13] And they didn't get stuck cuz I didn't
[25:15] hold them in there. I didn't say I can't
[25:17] handle this. Most important thing I've
[25:18] ever taught you. Right? I can't handle
[25:21] what just happened. Well, I don't
[25:22] understand. It happened. You better
[25:25] handle it cuz you can't make it not have
[25:27] happened. Nobody ever made something
[25:29] that happened not have happened. Did
[25:30] they?
[25:31] Nobody ever made something that happened
[25:34] not have happened. Do you got that
[25:36] straight? Get that straight. And you
[25:37] won't be the first one, either. No one's
[25:39] ever done it.
[25:40] It's a motion picture. It comes by and
[25:42] passes through. Question is, did it pass
[25:44] through you?
[25:45] Did it make it through you?
[25:47] Well, what do you mean it made it
[25:48] through me? It means that consciousness
[25:52] was completely open to experiencing
[25:56] the experience that it was conscious of.
[25:59] What happens next? The next thing
[26:01] happens.
[26:02] There's no No, no, no, no, no.
[26:03] Does I would to do?
[26:05] There's always the next thing. And it
[26:07] just comes in. It's going to be here
[26:08] now. It comes in and passes through.
[26:11] Where does it go? To God.
[26:13] You understand that? I always I love
[26:15] this part of the talk. Right? You, I
[26:17] hope,
[26:19] have had experiences in your life,
[26:20] although very, very few, that you say
[26:23] touched me to the depth of my being.
[26:26] The sunset. Oh my God, I was worried
[26:28] about things and I turned the corner and
[26:30] bam, the colors and the I've never seen
[26:34] It just touched my I I got lost in it.
[26:36] It touched me to the depth of my being.
[26:38] I felt like I was in the presence of
[26:40] God. You were.
[26:42] Cuz the self is the divine self. And it
[26:45] came in and touched you to the I love
[26:48] you word. Have you ever used the word?
[26:49] It touched me to the depth of my being.
[26:52] It's pretty special stuff, isn't it?
[26:54] Maybe in in a intimate moment, you let
[26:56] go enough. What does that mean, let go
[26:58] enough?
[26:59] Let go of what?
[27:01] Whatever's happening comes in and you go
[27:04] bye-bye.
[27:06] Ever gone bye-bye? It comes in and no
[27:09] one's judging it. No one's talking.
[27:11] There's no mind. It's gone bye-bye.
[27:14] Meher Baba said, "Man minus mind equals
[27:16] God." Yes, indeed. If there's nothing in
[27:19] the way, whatever is comes in and passes
[27:23] through
[27:24] all the way back. Where's all the way
[27:26] back? To the consciousness.
[27:28] To the pure state of experience, a pure
[27:31] experience.
[27:32] And so, that's what's meant to be. I'm
[27:34] telling you, that is God experiencing
[27:37] God's creation. And every single thing
[27:40] exists. I know you don't like to hear
[27:42] about it. Why? Cuz God is everything.
[27:45] It's everything. Omnipresent,
[27:47] omniscient, omnipotent. It's the whole.
[27:50] In the beginning before all this was
[27:51] created, in the end before all this
[27:52] falls away. It just is what is. And
[27:55] therefore, everything fits within God.
[27:58] Cuz it is God. It's all made of God.
[28:01] It's God expressing itself. And your
[28:03] consciousness got lost
[28:05] and got self-knowledge. That's part of
[28:08] the tree of the tree of self-knowledge.
[28:11] And you now know yourself as this little
[28:13] thing. And now stuff comes in
[28:16] that isn't okay with you. Then it never
[28:18] happens that okay with you?
[28:21] What does that mean?
[28:23] I'm in the ocean. I don't like that
[28:24] wave.
[28:26] I don't. I don't like that wave. I want
[28:28] it to be bigger. I want to go surfing.
[28:31] I want it to be not so rough cuz I I I
[28:34] don't float really well.
[28:36] What are you doing?
[28:39] Okay? So, your awareness is capable of
[28:42] experiencing what it's aware of. How
[28:45] about I I that to you? How hard is it
[28:47] for to be aware of what you're aware of?
[28:50] Except you don't want to be sometimes.
[28:52] That's the key.
[28:53] That's the essence. That's the fall from
[28:55] the garden.
[28:56] It's happening everywhere.
[28:59] Don't worry.
[29:00] There's another 8.3 billion of you
[29:02] having different experiences. Don't get
[29:04] caught up in yours.
[29:06] Okay? So, it comes in and it passes
[29:08] through. That's a great state.
[29:11] And
[29:11] the yogis gave a name for that state.
[29:15] Satchidananda.
[29:16] Eternal conscious ecstasy. Well, some
[29:21] That's the name for God. That's the name
[29:23] for the Atman.
[29:25] Same.
[29:26] Satchidananda. All right? Eternal
[29:28] conscious ecstasy. That is who you are
[29:31] right now this very second, but you're
[29:33] distracted
[29:35] by what? Things happened in your past.
[29:38] They came in and they didn't make it
[29:40] through. You were not able to experience
[29:43] the depth of your being. In fact, most
[29:45] of There ain't no way that's coming in
[29:47] there. I deep.
[29:48] That sucker staying out there.
[29:50] Staying out where? Outside? No, it
[29:52] already happened outside. It's already
[29:53] gone. There's not a single atom that
[29:55] stays in the same place ever
[29:57] for a moment. Not a nanosecond. So,
[29:59] basically, it comes in and you stop it.
[30:03] You use this thing called will. I had
[30:04] the whole another talk I've given it cuz
[30:06] nobody understand this. Some people do.
[30:10] What is will?
[30:12] Well, it's something I have inside that
[30:15] I can push my thoughts away if I don't
[30:17] like them.
[30:19] Or I can cling to them if I do like
[30:21] them.
[30:22] In other words, I am in here
[30:25] taking what already happened and
[30:28] cherry-picking what I like and what I
[30:30] don't like and keeping both of them. You
[30:33] keep what you don't like. That's I just
[30:34] think it's so funny. Okay, you keep what
[30:36] you like and have a good time.
[30:38] But, keep what you don't like? How long
[30:41] do you keep it? Can stuff be in there
[30:42] from childhood? Go study psychology.
[30:46] That needs
[30:48] Wow. Why'd you keep that if you didn't
[30:51] like it? Let go go bye-bye. Glad it's
[30:54] over.
[30:55] Well, your childhood's over. Your
[30:57] divorce is over. The sickness you had is
[30:59] over. The accident you had is over. Why
[31:02] is it still in there?
[31:04] Different than
[31:05] the white lines in the road, okay?
[31:07] Because you held it in there.
[31:10] Who gave you the power
[31:12] to stop the reality of creation from
[31:15] passing?
[31:16] Who gave you the power to stop God from
[31:18] experiencing his creation?
[31:21] Well, is this power called willpower? I
[31:23] have will. I'm in here. I have will.
[31:26] See? Don't I?
[31:28] I have will. I can make things happen. I
[31:30] can make things happen outside. I can
[31:32] beat I can book a my arm.
[31:35] I can defy gravity with my will. How?
[31:38] Whoop, just did it.
[31:41] No, I didn't see any engines or oil or
[31:43] solar energy or nuclear energy. I didn't
[31:45] see anything. I defied gravity, didn't
[31:48] I?
[31:49] You have willpower.
[31:51] All right. What is it? I can't do it.
[31:53] It's I can't go into every discussion
[31:55] when I get there. You understand that.
[31:56] Will is
[31:59] Listen once. Will is the power of
[32:03] concentrated consciousness.
[32:05] When you focus your consciousness on
[32:08] something,
[32:09] it has power. If you're trying to keep a
[32:11] thought in your mind, do you have to
[32:14] Let's do math in your mind. All right.
[32:16] If you're trying to hold a thought in
[32:18] your mind, don't you have to
[32:20] concentrate?
[32:21] What are you concentrating? I'm
[32:23] concentrating consciousness.
[32:25] Wow.
[32:26] That needs I'm taking
[32:29] consciousness and focusing it on
[32:31] something so that I can hold it there.
[32:34] All right. That focus of consciousness
[32:36] is the power of will. It's like in yoga,
[32:39] we say that God, all energy in the
[32:41] universe, is called chichakti. Chit
[32:44] shakti. Conscious energy.
[32:46] It's not energy. It's not consciousness.
[32:50] It's conscious energy. They're the same
[32:52] thing. Just like we used to talk about
[32:54] magnetism and electricity. A little bit
[32:57] of physics, just a little. You know, I
[32:59] can't [snorts] help myself. All right?
[33:00] Well, literally, there there was
[33:02] magnetism and there was electricity.
[33:05] Okay? Until they found out, no, there's
[33:07] one force called electromagnetism.
[33:09] And I just put the words together. The
[33:11] force is the same. Come at it from one
[33:13] angle, it looks like magnetism. Another
[33:16] angle, it's electricity. So, it's the
[33:17] same thing with chichakti.
[33:19] They're not separate things merged
[33:21] together. They are the same thing. This
[33:23] this essence of divine
[33:25] force, whatever, is chichakti. So, yogis
[33:28] call it chichakti. Conscious energy.
[33:31] Therefore, when you focus your
[33:32] consciousness, you're bringing energy
[33:34] with it. That's what will does.
[33:36] Will is the power of focused
[33:38] consciousness. That's why you can do
[33:40] things with your will. That's why you
[33:42] can do great things like suppress.
[33:45] Who suppresses?
[33:47] Freud said, "What you suppress and what
[33:48] effect it has, who's doing the
[33:50] suppressing in there?"
[33:52] Your consciousness. Same conscious we
[33:53] talked about. That your being, your
[33:56] atman, your being, your soul, you who's
[33:58] back there,
[34:00] focuses down here into your mind, into
[34:03] your emotions, into the world. And
[34:05] wherever you focus,
[34:07] things slow down. You can hold on to
[34:10] them. You can hold on to a thought,
[34:11] can't you? Can you hold on to a thought?
[34:14] You say, like for a moment, hold on to
[34:15] that thought.
[34:18] With my hands?
[34:20] How do I hold on to a thought? You can,
[34:21] can't you?
[34:23] Okay? Then far out.
[34:25] You're a great great being. So, you in
[34:27] there have power.
[34:29] And when you use that power to stop an
[34:32] experience that already happened from
[34:35] passing through, you're in trouble.
[34:38] It's not that it got stuck, you resisted
[34:41] it.
[34:42] And then you held it in there, and it
[34:44] stays in there. And so now if somebody
[34:46] happens to remind you of it, all the
[34:48] emotions and the fears and anxieties
[34:51] come back up. And so you know, you got
[34:53] all this stuff in there. That's all of
[34:54] psychology. You know what we're talking
[34:56] about? Physics, the quantum field
[34:57] vibration that I would talk about. Now
[34:59] you have just That's all of psychology.
[35:01] If you didn't hold stuff in there,
[35:03] they're out of business.
[35:05] There are no therapists, there's no
[35:06] psychology, there's no anything.
[35:08] Cuz that thing called the psyche is what
[35:11] you build by holding that stuff inside.
[35:14] What stuff? The stuff you couldn't
[35:15] handle.
[35:17] But what about the positive stuff?
[35:19] You can't handle that either.
[35:22] Don't you get weird if you really like
[35:24] something? Don't you get real weird if
[35:26] you really don't like something?
[35:28] Okay? You don't get weird when the day
[35:30] flows through and passes by, and you're
[35:33] just experiencing, and you're just
[35:34] having a good old time.
[35:36] Doing what? Experiencing life, letting
[35:39] it touch me,
[35:40] let it blow me away. Can music do that
[35:43] for you? Can you get so lost in a song
[35:45] and music that you go bye-bye?
[35:48] And you call that beautiful.
[35:50] Hear me? So everything is that, except
[35:53] no, you use your will, which now you
[35:56] understand what will is, the power of
[35:58] concentrated consciousness, focusing on
[36:00] something has a power. That's the
[36:03] willpower.
[36:04] So basically you block this stuff inside
[36:06] of you, you make a collection of
[36:08] everything you couldn't handle. That's
[36:10] the truth. I hate to say it. You're
[36:11] supposed to be the smartest species on
[36:13] the planet.
[36:14] You literally think it's smart to take
[36:16] every single thing you didn't like and
[36:17] hold it inside of you?
[36:19] So it bothers you for the rest of your
[36:20] life?
[36:21] Who came up with that idea?
[36:25] Freud didn't make up the idea. He just
[36:27] noticed, "Hey, you are doing this. You
[36:29] do weird things after that.
[36:31] You go out there and do all kinds of
[36:32] weird things, don't you?
[36:34] Because you got that stuff in there.
[36:38] Can you take a breath? Okay, that's
[36:40] what's going on.
[36:42] That's what's going on. It's not about
[36:44] getting what you want. How do you decide
[36:46] what you want? If God is experiencing
[36:49] God's creation, you have any wants? You
[36:51] have preferences?
[36:53] It's all just wow, this is this me. I'm
[36:56] experiencing me everywhere is all the
[36:58] time, every second and it's like wow.
[37:02] But no, you made a different me. You
[37:04] made a thing called a self-concept. By
[37:07] doing what? By building a house inside
[37:09] your beautiful mind. Why is it a
[37:11] beautiful mind? Cuz your mind is capable
[37:14] of contemplating the galaxies,
[37:17] contemplating the oneness of God to a to
[37:20] degree, all right? If you opened your
[37:22] mind wide enough to keep your frame of
[37:25] reference that broad, you'd merge
[37:27] instantly. Let's go back to Patanjali,
[37:29] that's where we're going next. So,
[37:30] pratyahara is okay, you withdraw from
[37:33] your senses and prana do you. You use
[37:35] your will. By the way, will is not the
[37:37] best way to withdraw from your senses.
[37:40] You know what it is?
[37:42] Who cares? It's like it's like
[37:43] [laughter] okay, there's a boy, there's
[37:45] a girl. Okay, she's old, he's young.
[37:47] It's like why do these distract you?
[37:50] They're just what it is. And all of a
[37:52] sudden, you don't have to withdraw from
[37:53] your senses. You're not drawn into them.
[37:55] There's nothing, you sit down, you're
[37:56] going to meditation.
[37:58] It's nothing, you don't have to use will
[38:00] to force away from it. Oh my God, I'm
[38:02] being drawn to it. In fact, I don't want
[38:03] to I don't want you to do that. I'm
[38:05] sorry. I've been doing this for 55
[38:07] years, I've learned a few things. All
[38:08] right? It's like what are you doing? I'm
[38:11] distracted by senses, but I'm trying to
[38:12] not.
[38:14] That is a lot of anxiety. That is a lot
[38:17] of struggle. That is a lot of tension.
[38:19] What is tension? Two forces at odds with
[38:21] each other. So, you have this one force,
[38:23] which is everything I'm so distracted,
[38:25] but I'm not supposed to be. I'm supposed
[38:27] to be in pratyahara. Am I in pratyahara
[38:28] yet? No. What are you doing? Oh my god,
[38:30] I heard a noise. I'm pratyahara.
[38:39] Sorry. I've just been at this too long.
[38:41] Why are you being distracted
[38:44] if you're not distracted, you don't have
[38:46] to do that.
[38:47] You sit down and you just go into peace.
[38:50] Why? Cuz there's nothing there's not two
[38:52] forces. Oh my god, I'm going to cry.
[38:55] There's not the force to have it of
[38:57] being distracted. Distracted by what?
[38:59] You're distracted by what you stored in
[39:01] there from before.
[39:02] Oh my god, I hope I get to meet him
[39:04] again. How we come so What are you
[39:05] doing? What are you doing? Somebody was
[39:08] there and now they're not there right
[39:09] now. Okay, can you be here now? No, no,
[39:11] no. I have to be there then. I don't
[39:14] even want to be here now. I want to be
[39:15] there then. I like that, all right? And
[39:17] so you because you held this stuff
[39:19] inside your mind and your mind is the
[39:21] closest thing to your consciousness
[39:23] right now
[39:24] and therefore you get distracted by
[39:26] everything. And now you have to fight to
[39:28] try and not be distracted. The answer is
[39:31] and that's the deepest yoga, the deepest
[39:33] teaching, right? Will you use your life
[39:35] to let go of the stuff you held in there
[39:39] so that you're naturally in a state of
[39:41] life is unfolding. Have you caught on
[39:43] it's unfolding and things are happening.
[39:45] Have you caught on? That means things
[39:46] happen to you, too. You're one of them,
[39:48] okay? And that's okay.
[39:51] It's okay that things are unfolding.
[39:53] I'm okay. I can handle it.
[39:55] Therefore, I don't have to store it.
[39:56] Therefore, it doesn't stay in there.
[39:58] Therefore, it doesn't distract me. As
[40:00] you get older you should be gone through
[40:02] enough that you can let go more, but you
[40:04] don't. You just pick up more. You store
[40:06] more and more. Okay, so you did
[40:08] pratyahara. Now what happens? Now you've
[40:11] managed, I wish, by letting go of
[40:15] yourself.
[40:17] It goes there naturally as opposed to
[40:19] fighting with yourself to try and make
[40:21] it be what they're telling you you're
[40:22] supposed to be.
[40:23] See the difference?
[40:26] Well,
[40:27] how how do I
[40:29] get rid of me?
[40:31] Life will do it for you.
[40:33] If you pay attention.
[40:35] Life is sandpaper.
[40:37] Just putting you through different
[40:38] situations that you think are going to
[40:40] work, and you think they're not going to
[40:41] work, and you'll find out that what you
[40:43] think is work that you know is work, and
[40:44] then not going to work turns out to be a
[40:46] very good blessing. Have you noticed
[40:48] anything? Well, what if you didn't do
[40:50] that?
[40:52] You just sit here
[40:53] not my will, but thy will.
[40:55] What if you just said to life,
[40:58] "Come on, do your thing.
[40:59] Free me.
[41:00] Free me if I'm caught somewheres.
[41:03] Pull it out.
[41:04] I'll go through it."
[41:06] Life will put you through changes, won't
[41:08] it?
[41:09] But not the change you think you want.
[41:11] So, eventually, so if you're willing to
[41:14] honor and respect life,
[41:16] it's not about leaving life, but
[41:17] respecting the purpose and the meaning
[41:19] that you took birth.
[41:21] Earth is a place of souls are sent to
[41:23] evolve. Earth
[41:25] is a place that souls are sent to
[41:27] evolve. This is a little tiny ball in
[41:29] the middle of no wheres, floating around
[41:31] with all this stuff going on.
[41:33] Okay? And if you handle it properly,
[41:36] you leave higher than you came down.
[41:39] If you don't handle it properly, woe be
[41:41] unto you, and you suffer as you go
[41:43] through the whole thing.
[41:45] What does it mean handle it properly? I
[41:46] can handle that.
[41:48] All right? All right, so now you managed
[41:50] to let go enough. I like to do it that
[41:53] way. You managed to let go enough
[41:55] to where it's quieter inside, or out
[41:57] from the outside, it's not stimulating
[41:59] distracting all the time. So, now you
[42:01] can enter pratyahara naturally.
[42:04] Okay? What happens now? Oh,
[42:07] there are these things called thoughts
[42:08] and emotions.
[42:10] They're not my senses, but they're in
[42:13] there boogers.
[42:15] Well, do they keep you out of murder?
[42:18] Yeah, they keep you out of murder. It's
[42:20] not good enough to withdraw from your
[42:21] senses. You can lost in your mind
[42:23] anytime you want, okay? So, now you're
[42:25] in here. So, what Patanjali taught was
[42:29] this is will, all right? I like the more
[42:32] natural state, but he said concentrate.
[42:36] Well, I was concentrating. No, you
[42:37] weren't. You were being distracted by
[42:39] 8,000 things
[42:40] from the outside cuz your senses. Now,
[42:43] you're not distracted by your senses,
[42:44] you're distracted by your thoughts and
[42:46] your emotions, okay? They boom boom boom
[42:48] boom going all over the place, all
[42:50] right? We talked about the fact that if
[42:52] you focus your will, your consciousness,
[42:55] you can focus it down to where it's not
[42:57] being drawn away by everything. It's
[42:59] called one-pointed consciousness,
[43:01] one-pointed will.
[43:03] Stare at candle or a mantra or
[43:06] breathing.
[43:07] Just pay attention to one thing. And if
[43:11] you're They They teach meditation this
[43:12] way. If your attention gets drawn to
[43:14] something else, the moment you notice it
[43:16] got drawn to something else, bring it
[43:17] back. Yes, they teach you that? That's a
[43:19] basic basic meditation. Just bring it
[43:22] back. Well, shouldn't I think? I can't
[43:23] even meditate. No, no, no, just bring it
[43:25] back. Keep bringing your awareness,
[43:28] not [cough] your mind, your awareness
[43:31] back to a point. Breathing works.
[43:33] Breath, follow your breath. That alone
[43:35] can change everything. That's what he
[43:37] said.
[43:38] Focus at the third eye, the point
[43:39] between your eyebrows, and never take
[43:42] your awareness off of there, you'll be
[43:43] enlightened during this lifetime.
[43:46] So, I was asked him, you teach Kriya
[43:48] Yoga. I say this is the deepest
[43:50] technique passed on by all your lineage
[43:52] and so on. And someone once asked
[43:53] Yogananda,
[43:55] is there another technique other than
[43:57] Kriya Yoga
[43:58] that guarantees liberation in this
[44:00] lifetime? And he shocked everybody by
[44:02] saying yes.
[44:04] Woo. Take your attention and put it at a
[44:06] between your eyebrows, and never take it
[44:09] off.
[44:10] And you will realize that see
[44:11] one-pointed focus. Okay? So, and in
[44:14] essence, it doesn't matter what you're
[44:15] focusing on,
[44:17] but you bring it down. So, what happened
[44:19] now? I told you, your consciousness is
[44:21] conscious energy. You now took and
[44:23] focused your conscious that in essence
[44:25] you got so distracted by your breath
[44:28] that you got liberated.
[44:31] Have you ever gone deep enough in
[44:32] meditation followed your breath and so
[44:34] were released?
[44:36] It stops.
[44:38] The great ones, they focus on the breath
[44:40] so much that they enter a state called
[44:41] samadhi.
[44:42] The breath stops flowing.
[44:44] Okay? How? By focusing on the breath.
[44:47] Yeah, sure. By focusing on anything.
[44:49] Because you lose yourself. Your
[44:51] consciousness, it's drawn down to one
[44:53] point. You're no longer distracted. So,
[44:56] that's dharana. As Patanjali says,
[44:59] pratyahara,
[45:00] dharana, focus your awareness
[45:02] one-pointedly
[45:04] inside, and the mind won't distract you.
[45:07] It can't. It's one-pointed. The emotions
[45:09] won't distract you. They can't. They're
[45:11] one-pointed. Is that meditation? No. Oh
[45:14] my god, that was hard enough.
[45:16] That's not meditation. No, that's not
[45:18] meditation. Meditation's called dhyana.
[45:20] What is that? Now take this Patanjali
[45:23] teaching, not mine.
[45:24] Now take that one-pointed conscious
[45:26] focus the conscious. See the the
[45:28] sunlight is focused down down to this
[45:31] tiny point. You have a magnifying glass
[45:33] out to the sun, and the whole
[45:36] used to be light everywhere, but now
[45:37] there's light just at that point. It
[45:38] goes down right there. All right? Follow
[45:41] it back,
[45:43] and you'll find your way to the sun.
[45:45] You follow that one point.
[45:48] Hold the magnifying glass out here
[45:50] in a sunny day. What happens? You look
[45:52] down there, you could burn a leaf,
[45:53] couldn't it?
[45:55] Okay?
[45:56] Follow that point back to its source.
[45:59] That's exactly what Patanjali says for
[46:01] dhyana. Now that you're one-pointed
[46:03] focus with your consciousness, right?
[46:06] Follow it back
[46:08] to the source of consciousness.
[46:10] Back to the self. Okay? And you were
[46:13] able to do that cuz you're not
[46:14] distracted along the way by either the
[46:17] outside world or the inside world. And
[46:19] you follow that point back. I like that
[46:21] analogy I just gave you. If you take
[46:22] that point that that magnifying glass
[46:25] puts on the ground,
[46:26] and you follow it back, don't you get to
[46:28] the sun?
[46:30] Okay? That's what's going on with deep
[46:33] true meditation. Dhyana, now you follow
[46:35] it back, you're no longer one point. As
[46:37] you go back, by the way, as you go back
[46:39] from that point, every moment you move
[46:42] away from the point, gets broader.
[46:44] It stayed one point and now it's broader
[46:46] and broader and broader. Then the
[46:48] past the magnifying glass, then broader
[46:50] and broader all the way back to the sun,
[46:51] then broader and
[46:53] you're merging, you're expanding.
[46:56] That's what happens when you move from
[46:58] dharana to dhyana.
[47:00] He said, "Now take that one-pointed
[47:02] awareness and focus it on consciousness
[47:04] itself." That's why our whole discussion
[47:06] has been about consciousness. That is
[47:08] enlightenment. At that point, you expand
[47:11] out and you experience yourself as the
[47:13] whole universe. That's what the great
[47:15] masters are experiencing. I know it's
[47:16] hard for you to imagine that there
[47:18] [clears throat] are beings who are in
[47:20] that state.
[47:22] Don't leave that state. They're in that
[47:23] state here, interacting.
[47:27] Very rare.
[47:29] Very rare. A lot of people talk about
[47:30] enlightenment. How I would never use the
[47:32] word in a billion years. Don't even try.
[47:34] It's a very great state, and there are
[47:36] very few enlightened beings.
[47:38] Read Autobiography of a Yogi. There's a
[47:40] chapter in Autobiography, Yogananda's
[47:42] book,
[47:43] it's called My Experiences in Cosmic
[47:44] Consciousness.
[47:46] And he tells the story how his guru
[47:48] touched him
[47:49] >> [snorts]
[47:49] >> when he was ready. He had to be ready,
[47:50] all right?
[47:51] And it raised his consciousness up
[47:54] enough
[47:55] to where it broke. It broke. He fell
[47:57] through.
[47:58] Instead of being this person in this
[48:00] body, he was the awareness expanding. He
[48:03] said, "I feel my being expanding at the
[48:06] speed of light in every direction
[48:07] throughout creation. All the galaxies
[48:10] were my body. Everything was included
[48:11] within me."
[48:13] Okay, because that one point of focus
[48:16] got pulled back to the source. What is
[48:18] God?
[48:19] Well, you ready? The source of your
[48:21] consciousness.
[48:24] The source of your consciousness. The
[48:25] source of all consciousness. The source
[48:27] of awareness itself. Then it focuses
[48:30] down in billions and trillions of
[48:31] places.
[48:32] All right? And it gets caught. It gets
[48:35] lost there.
[48:36] So, now you understand the grand
[48:37] understanding of consciousness. In other
[48:39] words, I wasn't trying to belittle you
[48:41] by saying you're statistically
[48:43] insignificant. Your experiences are
[48:45] statistically insignificant. They are.
[48:46] Okay?
[48:47] Because if you let go enough, then you
[48:50] become everything instead of being this
[48:52] tiny little nothing like a bug.
[48:54] Not even a bug crawling around this
[48:56] planet for a few years. Please don't do
[48:58] that.
[48:59] That's not who you are.
[49:00] Yeah, but if I if I can get something
[49:02] that I like, I feel better. I'm sure you
[49:04] do.
[49:05] But you don't feel great. Only for a
[49:07] moment maybe. Then it isn't the way you
[49:09] want it to be.
[49:10] That's what basically your consciousness
[49:13] to return to the source of consciousness
[49:15] is to return to the merger of God.
[49:18] It's to come back down the garden. All
[49:20] right? Just become the through oneness
[49:22] of all beings.
[49:23] How do you do that? I can I touched it
[49:26] along the way. All my books talk about
[49:27] it one way or another. It's a basically
[49:30] you let go of yourself.
[49:32] Well, why? I don't want to let go of
[49:33] myself. So, you can be everything.
[49:36] Why don't I want to let go of the
[49:37] nothing so I can become everything?
[49:39] You are a very great being. But you're
[49:42] not great because of your thoughts.
[49:45] Your thoughts are very, very limited.
[49:46] Einstein was very brilliant. He's not
[49:48] here anymore.
[49:49] Thoughts come and go. People come and
[49:51] go. You're here on a planet for how
[49:53] long? Please, I'm going to cry. 80, 90
[49:55] years? Hear me? The planet's been here
[49:58] for 4.5 billion.
[50:00] So, how much have you experienced?
[50:03] How important are you? I'm important.
[50:05] I'm president. I'm in charge. I have the
[50:07] most money. I'm You're nothing.
[50:11] Uh-oh.
[50:13] Right or wrong? You're nothing. You're
[50:15] just like a tiny little thing on a
[50:17] planet. I mean, it's I tell you all the
[50:19] time, 1.3 million Earths fit inside the
[50:22] sun.
[50:23] And you're how what on the planet Earth?
[50:26] Nothing. And the sun is one of 300
[50:29] billion [clears throat] stars
[50:30] in your galaxy. There's 2 trillion
[50:32] galaxies. How important are you?
[50:34] But you think that belittles you? It
[50:36] does not belittle you. It stops you from
[50:38] being little. It stops you from staring
[50:40] at this little nothing that's here for
[50:42] 80 years.
[50:44] And here is nothing. And then all of a
[50:46] sudden, when you let go of yourself,
[50:47] when you die to be reborn, do you
[50:48] understand Christ's teaching now?
[50:50] So, basically, it means if you let go of
[50:53] yourself,
[50:54] you become everything.
[50:56] It merges back by itself. How do you do
[50:59] that? By learning to honor life as your
[51:02] teacher, as your guru, as your best
[51:05] friend. Whatever it puts you through, by
[51:08] definition, you needed to go through it.
[51:10] How do I need you to go through it?
[51:11] Because you had trouble with it.
[51:12] Somebody else didn't have trouble. Her
[51:14] husband left her. He couldn't care less.
[51:16] No, she didn't.
[51:18] So, then you know her.
[51:20] You have made yourselves the most
[51:21] important thing in the universe. Are you
[51:24] the most important thing in the
[51:24] universe? You who's here for 80 years on
[51:26] this tiny little planet spinning around
[51:28] with 8.3 billion of you? Come on. And
[51:31] you realize, no, I'm not. And I'm having
[51:33] these experiences, and if they challenge
[51:35] me,
[51:36] they're my best friend. Didn't feel like
[51:38] it at the time.
[51:40] My Yog Shakti who gave us the Durga
[51:42] statue and beautiful lady, very high
[51:44] soul. When the first time she who here,
[51:45] I never understood it for a long time.
[51:47] She said, "Problems are the nectar of
[51:50] life."
[51:53] I didn't know what she was talking
[51:54] about. Right? Problems are the nectar of
[51:56] life.
[51:57] The fact that you call it a problem
[52:00] means you made it a problem.
[52:03] He didn't make it a problem. He didn't
[52:04] call it a problem.
[52:05] What are your problems? Things that
[52:07] aren't the way your mind wants them to
[52:08] be.
[52:10] So, what happens now? If you have a
[52:12] problem
[52:14] come and get it.
[52:17] Come and get it. If this is what's
[52:19] keeping me
[52:21] from such and such, from eternal
[52:22] conscious ecstasy, not 80 years, eternal
[52:25] conscious ecstasy, the meaning of life,
[52:27] oneness with God,
[52:29] if that's what's keeping me from that,
[52:31] come and get it.
[52:32] I'll do the best I can to let go.
[52:35] And you start understanding what life's
[52:37] about and what you're about.
[52:40] Where do we end up? You are a conscious
[52:43] being, right or wrong?
[52:44] Then you are worthy of very, very deep
[52:46] respect.
[52:47] You're the highest thing that ever
[52:48] walked the face of the earth. That's
[52:49] what Namaste means.
[52:51] Right? Doesn't mean I'm praying. It
[52:53] means I understand that who I am
[52:56] you are. And I mean here, and so are
[52:58] you. We may be fighting and all screwed
[53:01] up in between, but what's back here
[53:04] is awareness of being, is consciousness.
[53:06] So, let's
[53:08] interact at that level.
[53:10] Okay. So, again, where am I ending up?
[53:12] Right where I started. Consciousness is
[53:15] an amazing thing.
[53:16] And tag, you're it.
[53:18] So, you're a very, very great being.
[53:21] Work on these things.
[53:23] Dive right in.
