Wilfried Van Craen is a mindfulness trainer in Ghent with 47 years of experience in clinical psychotherapy and sexology. His approach is grounded in science, drawing on mindfulness and cognitive behavioural therapy, and aims to strengthen the quality of people's lives.
As a clinical psychotherapist and sexologist, he has long been fascinated by what he calls the "tapestry of life". His practice in cognitive behavioural and relationship therapy sits alongside a deep personal exploration of Zazen, mindfulness and applied Buddhism. Together these shape his courses, books, blogs and podcasts.
His courses cover practical themes: tackling worry, working methodically with burdensome emotions, finding relaxation and meditation techniques that fit the individual, self-hypnosis, reflecting on life's priorities, and rediscovering enjoyment. He also teaches a full mindfulness training aimed at inner calm, energy, stability and resilience despite difficulties, and learning to let go of what cannot be changed. Other sessions bring mindfulness together with time in nature, which he often calls "the green medicine". An online course offers a version of the live trainings, focused on more calm in the mind, emotions and body.
Alongside teaching, he writes a blog on subjects such as mindful gardening and living with questions, and he sends a newsletter that opens with a short series of exercises against worrying. He has spoken about his work in an interview on Radio 1 and in Standaard Magazine.
Worth Knowing
Wilfried Van Craen is a mindfulness trainer and clinical psychotherapist based in Ghent, with 47 years of experience in clinical psychotherapy and sexology. He is best understood as a clinician who teaches meditation, not a spiritual performer, and that distinction shapes nearly everything about his output. His approach joins science-based mindfulness with cognitive behavioural therapy, grounded in a long personal engagement with Zazen and applied Buddhism. Students tend to come to him for concrete problems such as persistent worry, heavy emotions and exhaustion rather than for abstract doctrine. He has described his long-running fascination with what he calls the 'tapestry of life', a idea that runs through his courses, books, blogs and podcasts. What makes his work worth following is that the Buddhist roots are present but practical, filtered through decades of therapy practice.
