Padraig O'Morain teaches aware living through courses, books and newsletters, with mindfulness, acceptance and self-compassion as his main themes. He has practised mindfulness since the late 1980s and has taught throughout Ireland and in London, as well as online. His aim has stayed the same throughout: to make mindfulness easily accessible in people's everyday lives.
He began on a Dublin afternoon in the 1980s, after reading two paragraphs on mindfulness in a book he bought on his lunch break. At the time few people in the West had heard of it, and long daily meditations were expected, which didn't always suit the pace of life. He came to prefer simple approaches that help a person be mindful through the day. This "easy mindfulness" is the subject of Mindfulness on the Go and his other mindfulness books.
His books are published in many countries and languages. They include Mindfulness on the Go – Peace in Your Pocket, Light Mind – Mindfulness in Daily Living, and Like A Man – a Guide to Men's Emotional Wellbeing. He has demonstrated mindfulness on ITV, RTE and TV3. At the heart of his work is the free Daily Bell, a newsletter that has gone out every day since 2012 to readers worldwide.
Before teaching, Padraig worked as a journalist, first with RTE Radio One and The Irish Press, then as health correspondent with The Irish Times. He has also worked on the counsellor training course at the Institute of Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy in Tallaght, Dublin, and does some work as a counsellor and counselling supervisor. He also writes poetry and short stories, and his collection The Blue Guitar is published by Salmon Poetry. He lives in Dublin.
