Michael Caloz is a transformation coach and existential counselor who helps people become what he calls a "Full-Stack Human." He works with logical, future-oriented thinkers who feel stuck, overthink, or are still waiting for their "real" life to start. He describes himself as one of them.
His own path was winding. He worked on video games at Square Enix and Naughty Dog, did postgraduate research on a full scholarship in Japan, led user experience design and digital product management for major brands such as Nike, and went on to management consulting, Agile coaching and executive coaching with Fortune 500 companies, non-profits and startups. On paper it went well, but he felt empty and numb, and not connected to anything bigger than himself.
He then spent years deliberately stepping outside his comfort zone, through experiences that included skydiving, plant medicine journeys and West African grief rituals. He left his high-paying career and trained to support others with their deepest challenges.
Today he is a Hakomi-trained counselor, a Co-Active-trained coach, and a practitioner of Sōtō Zen Buddhism. His training includes three years of Hakomi through META and study in the Taizan Maezumi Sōtō Zen lineage and the S.N. Goenka Vipassana lineage. His Insight Timer page says he has meditated for 14 years using a variety of techniques.
His personality test, based on the Jung-Myers 16 types, has been taken by millions. He has coached hundreds of people across six continents. He also writes and teaches online, including a guided meditation series for beginners and intermediates and a piece on Buddhism without dogma.
Worth Knowing
Michael Caloz is a Meditation Teacher, transformation coach and existential counselor who works with what he calls the 'Full-Stack Human', meaning logical, future-oriented thinkers who feel stuck, overthink, or are still waiting for their 'real' life to begin. His background is unusually broad for the field: he worked on video games at Square Enix and Naughty Dog, held a full scholarship for postgraduate research in Japan, and led user experience design and digital product management for brands such as Nike. He then moved through management consulting and Agile coaching into executive coaching for Fortune 500 companies, non-profits and startups, and he describes that period as successful on paper yet empty and numb. After deliberately stepping outside his comfort zone through skydiving, plant medicine journeys and West African grief rituals, he left his high-paying career and retrained as a Hakomi-trained counselor and Co-Active-trained coach. People pay attention because he speaks from inside an analytical corporate career rather than from a monastic or purely clinical vantage, which gives his writing credibility with skeptical readers. The tradeoff is that his framing is aimed squarely at one temperament, so listeners who identify more with devotional or emotional modes may find his tone cerebral.
