Kate Meyer is a psychologist and writer based in Tasmania, Australia, and an accredited meditation teacher. For more than 25 years her work has centred on people: how we work, lead, connect, adapt and find meaning in what we do.
She is a registered psychologist and veteran who has worked primarily with the Australian Defence Force. She has provided psychological support in a range of places, including Antarctica and aboard warships in the Middle East, the United States and Southeast Asia. She has a special interest in the health and wellbeing of veterans. Her approach is solution-focused and strengths-based, with an emphasis on mental health, wellbeing and resilience. She is also a Strengths Profile practitioner.
Kate is drawn to the experiences that change our perspective, connect us to others, or stay with us long after they end. Antarctica has been one of them, first through her own experience of the continent, later through her psychology work, and now through her writing. That connection sits at the heart of Women of Antarctica, a writing and oral history project exploring the stories of women who have lived and worked in Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic: what took them there, what life was really like, and what the experience has meant since.
She also writes personal reflections, including an account of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and what it taught her about perseverance. Her own listed strengths are optimism, resilience, humour, growth and persistence. She describes herself as an ocean lover and a dog lover.
