Dead Sea Scrolls, Enoch and the Celestial City as UFO Lore

What would it mean to read the Dead Sea Scrolls the way a UFO investigator reads a sighting report? That is the question William Henry puts to his audience in a segment of Gaia's original series Ascension Keepers, a program that follows three groups who sought to recover ancient spiritual teaching: the Essenes, the Gnostics and the Cathars. The video, republished on Gregg Braden's channel as a throwback, opens with a question it never fully settles: is the celestial city the Essenes describe an actual craft? Henry's answer, assembled from scroll passages, the Book of Ezekiel, the Nag Hammadi library and Christian and Cathar sources, leans toward a different image. He reads the New Jerusalem as a portal rather than a spaceship, and he reads the Essenes' goal as the transformation of earthly flesh into a celestial light body. This article works through his argument, separates the scriptural material from his interpretive overlay, and follows the arc he draws from the Essenes to Enoch, the Gnostics and the Cathars.

Is the celestial city a craft, or a portal?

Henry opens by asking whether the celestial city the Essenes describe resembles the ship in Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It is a fair place to start, because the scrolls do describe a city that comes down from heaven. Henry's reframing comes early. The Essene community, he says, "was an intersection or portal between heaven and earth," with heavenly beings living among its members as instructors (1:00). The Essenes, in his telling, saw the world as cut off from a larger cosmic reality, and their work was to "put humanity back online, so to speak."

The city itself, Sion or the New Jerusalem, is described in the material as a real city built in heaven and destined to be disclosed when it descends to earth. Its inhabitants are "an advanced human race of just humans made perfect." Entry is limited. Only the pure in heart may enter and dwell there. Henry's central interpretive move is to take this vocabulary of revelation and disclosure seriously, and then to ask what kind of object a disclosed city could be. His preference is for a gateway over a vehicle. "When viewed from the bottom," he notes, the ship in Close Encounters seems to mirror the descent of a celestial city, but Christian art has long called the New Jerusalem a portal. For him, that reading "certainly … makes more sense than does a spaceship."

What was the robe of glory, and why did it matter?

The most concrete idea in this part of the video is the robe of glory. The Essenes believed that to enter the heavenly city, a person had to become like the angels, who wear a white robe of glory. Henry reads the robe as a symbol. It stands for a conversion into an energy pattern and the attainment of a celestial light body that could be reconverted into matter, into flesh and blood again. The result was the ability to move between the two states of being, earthly and celestial.

Attaining that robe, in Henry's account, meant perfecting the body, changing it from earthly flesh into celestial flesh. He ties this to the Gospel of Matthew, where the veil and the flesh are torn at Jesus's death and "the way was opened into the heavens." In Henry's reading, Jesus is veiled in flesh and, when he unveils, dissolves that flesh into a rainbow body, passes through the opening, and later rematerializes at will before the disciples. The Essenes, he argues, were not only receiving these mysteries; they believed the mysteries put them in the company of angels.

Henry grounds this in the scroll known as 1QM, which he reads aloud in the video. It asks who is like the people of Israel, "who have heard the voice of majesty and have seen the angels of holiness," and who have "heard profound things." It is the kind of passage that carries real weight within the scrolls' own world, and it is worth reading on its own terms before Henry's reading is applied.

Are the scrolls describing close encounters?

This is where the video is most distinctive, and most open to challenge. Henry takes the language of the scrolls and sorts it using the classification system of UFO research. The 1QM passage about seeing angels of holiness, he says, is "a close encounter of the third kind. They saw an otherworldly being" (4:44).

"That is a close encounter of the third kind. They saw an otherworldly being."

William Henry, Ascension Keepers, 4:44

A later passage, in which the speaker says he has been raised "to the everlasting height" and made to stand "with the host of the holy ones," is read as an abduction, but a benevolent one. Henry calls it a close encounter of the fourth kind. He adds a fifth-kind reading, direct communication, and cites Dr. Steven Greer's definition of it as "a willing and bilateral contact experience." Finally, when the Essenes are said to stand with the angels and "starwalk into the angelic realm," Henry concludes: "This is a close encounter of the eighth and ninth kind, a CE8 or a CE9" (6:49).

It helps to be clear about what is happening here. The categories are a modern ufological invention, and the scrolls were not written with them in mind. Henry is applying a contemporary vocabulary to ancient ecstatic and mystical language, and his conclusions depend on that translation. A reader can take the passages seriously as accounts of visionary contact with a heavenly order without accepting that they describe extraterrestrial craft.

Is the New Jerusalem a spaceship, and where does Ezekiel fit in?

Henry asks the question outright: "Is the New Jerusalem a massive interstellar spaceship?" (8:17). His answer is to go back to the source. Ezekiel, a priest and prophet, is one of the contenders for the founder of the Essenes, in Henry's account. Ezekiel wrote his vision while captive in Babylon among thousands of other Jews taken from Jerusalem between 593 and 571 BC, after Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Solomon's first temple. He describes being by the river Chebar when "the heavens were opened," and he tries, in Henry's words, to convey "the limitless realm he experiences via this hole in space to the limited terrestrial mind."

The vision Ezekiel records is of a reunited twelve tribes gathered around a new Jerusalem, a cube-shaped heavenly temple apparently centered on or hovering above a rebuilt temple. For Henry, this is the Essenes' goal: ascension to the heavenly Jerusalem, which requires "a change in being." The question he presses is whether that change is spiritual or physical, and whether the city exists in the material world or only in higher consciousness. He asks whether it is accessible only to the mystically initiated. He does not fully resolve these questions in the video. He does insist that they be asked "early and often."

How did Enoch become Metatron?

The Essene story of transformation is told through Enoch, the sage who walked with God before the flood. In the material, the archangel Michael raises Enoch to the heavenly city and transforms him. Henry's line on this is one of the video's clearest statements: "Enoch was transformed into a glorious and glowing angel named Metatron" (11:08). In that form, Metatron becomes a guide for humans on the path of ascension. The metamorphosis, Henry says, is what academics sometimes call "jellification," a term he uses for the human becoming an angel.

The Enoch story matters to the video because it gives the Essenes a precedent. If a human could be lifted and changed into an angelic being, the ascension they sought was not merely symbolic. It had a model.

What did the Gnostics keep secret?

The video's second act moves forward roughly two centuries and shifts from the Essenes to the Gnostics. Henry describes a mystical path through which the Gnostics pursued ascension and the vision of God, a process of self-transformation that changed the body. He introduces the merkaba, the light vehicle associated with ascension, as part of this practice.

The key claim concerns texts. Henry notes that the Nag Hammadi manuscripts were discovered in 1945 in Egypt and that they contain what he calls the secret teachings of Jesus and the earliest Christians. His central line draws the distinction between two bodies of teaching:

"Gnostic Christianity focuses primarily upon the inner and secret teachings Jesus gave after the resurrection."

William Henry, Ascension Keepers, 16:26

In this telling, the Gnostic gospels preserve a track of instruction that the wider church did not carry forward, one centered on inner transformation and the soul's ascent. Henry's reading of this material is much more closely tied to the texts than his UFO framing is, and it is the part of the video a general reader is most likely to find useful as a point of entry into the Nag Hammadi library itself.

What did the Cathars believe about ascension and the fire?

The final section turns to the Cathars and Isaiah. Henry says that, like the Essenes, the Cathars sought a way out of the suffering of earth life through a path of ascent. He connects their outlook to the vision of Isaiah, which he reads as having a human form seated on a throne in the celestial holy of holies. The Cathars, in his account, viewed themselves as "the pure ones," and believed they were in some sense in contact with their future selves. The video's most dramatic claim comes at the point of death:

"The Cathars went willingly into the fires. They knew where they were going."

William Henry, Ascension Keepers, 30:57

This section is the most compressed in the video, and Henry's reasoning here rests heavily on his reading of Isaiah. Readers who want the Cathar history itself should treat the video as an introduction and consult primary and academic sources before drawing firm conclusions.

What should a reader take from Henry's argument?

The strongest part of Henry's case is not the UFO vocabulary. It is the thread he draws through the sources: a repeated belief that the human body could be transformed, that heaven and earth were joined by an opening, and that a select group could cross between the two. That thread runs through the scrolls, Enoch, the Gnostic gospels and the Cathar tradition, and it is a serious subject for anyone interested in the history of mysticism. The extraterrestrial reading is a different matter. It is an overlay Henry brings to the texts, and the texts do not announce it on their own. The best way to watch the video is to hold both things in view: take the scriptural passages seriously, and notice when the classification system is doing the interpretive work.

Where to go from here

If this material is new to you, start with the sources Henry quotes. Read the Book of Ezekiel, the passages of the scroll known as 1QM, and the Nag Hammadi texts, then return to the video with those passages in mind. To see Henry's full treatment of the Essenes, Gnostics and Cathars, the complete Ascension Keepers series is available on Gaia at https://www.gaia.com/gregg-ak. The video is a useful map of a long and contested tradition, and its own questions, asked early and often, are a good place to begin.

[0:00] What do we know or need to know about

[0:04] this celestial city? For instance, is

[0:08] this celestial city a craft? Are the

[0:11] Essenes talking about something like

[0:13] what we saw [music] in Close Encounters

[0:15] of the Third Kind?

[0:18] Are the angels of the Lord of the

[0:20] Essenes really gray aliens as Spielberg

[0:24] envisions? In 1945, the Gnostic Gospels

[0:28] were discovered in Nagamadi, Egypt.

[0:31] These astonishing manuscripts contain

[0:33] [music] the secret teachings of Jesus

[0:36] and the earliest Christians. Jesus

[0:39] appears to the disciples in his light

[0:42] body form after his ascension. [music]

[0:45] The light ship of Isis takes us to Egypt

[0:48] and the ark of the millions of years.

[0:51] the ascension craft, the wormhole-shaped

[0:54] ascension craft of the ancient Egyptian

[0:57] gods.

[0:59] The Essen community was an intersection

[1:02] or portal between heaven and earth with

[1:05] celestial or heavenly beings living

[1:07] amongst them as instructors.

[1:10] Their goal was to transform earth into a

[1:13] planet of righteousness.

[1:16] One gets the impression that the Essenes

[1:18] perceived Earth as disconnected from the

[1:22] cosmic real world and their goal was to

[1:25] put humanity back online, so to speak.

[1:29] To the Essenes, the real world we are

[1:32] seeking included joining a celestial

[1:35] city

[1:36] called Sion or the new Jerusalem. It was

[1:40] conceived as an actual city constructed

[1:43] in heaven that will be revealed or

[1:46] disclosed when it comes out of heaven to

[1:49] earth.

[1:51] The Essenes tell us it's inhabited by an

[1:54] advanced human race of just humans made

[1:56] perfect. And they tell us how we can

[2:00] join them.

[2:02] For one thing, only the pure in heart

[2:04] can enter and dwell in Zion.

[2:08] The Essenes believed that in order to

[2:11] enter this heavenly city, one is

[2:13] required to become like the angels who

[2:16] dress lightly in a white robe of glory.

[2:20] This robe symbolizes their ascension or

[2:24] conversion into an energy pattern and

[2:26] attainment of the celestial light body

[2:29] that was capable of being reconverted or

[2:32] rematerialized into matter into flesh

[2:34] and blood.

[2:36] This gave them the ability to phase

[2:39] between the two states of being between

[2:41] earthly and celestial.

[2:44] Attaining this robe of glory or robe of

[2:47] light required a transformation or

[2:50] perfection of our being from earthly

[2:52] flesh to celestial flesh of which the

[2:55] Essenes claimed to be experts. Here we

[2:59] recall the words of Matthew who said

[3:01] that at the moment of Jesus's death, his

[3:04] flesh and the veil were both torn and

[3:08] the way was opened into the heavens into

[3:11] the presence of God.

[3:14] In flesh, Jesus is veiled. And when he

[3:18] unveils, he dissolves the flesh into the

[3:20] rainbow body. And in a flash he

[3:23] dematerializes or passes through the

[3:27] hole in heaven to the world beyond the

[3:29] veil. Then he rematerializes at will

[3:34] appearing over a dozen times to the

[3:36] disciples in the New Testament.

[3:40] The Essenes believed that they were not

[3:42] only privileged to receive these divine

[3:45] mysteries, but that doing so would put

[3:48] them in the company of angels in the

[3:50] celestial city. This belief is referred

[3:53] to in the scroll known as 1QM.

[3:57] Oh God of Israel, who is like thee in

[4:00] heaven or on earth, who accomplished

[4:03] deeds and mighty works like thine? Who

[4:06] is like thy people Israel, which thou

[4:08] hast chose for thyself from all the

[4:11] peoples of the lands? the people of the

[4:14] saints of the covenant instructed in the

[4:17] laws and learned in wisdom who have

[4:20] heard the voice of majesty and have seen

[4:23] the angels of holiness whose ear has

[4:26] been unstopped and who have heard

[4:28] profound things

[4:31] instructed in the laws and learned in

[4:34] wisdom who have heard the voice of

[4:36] majesty and have seen the angels of

[4:39] holiness

[4:41] in today's UFO faux vernacular that is a

[4:44] close encounter of the third kind. They

[4:48] saw an otherworldly being.

[4:52] Another passage in the Dead Sea Scrolls

[4:54] indicates the further belief that the

[4:56] Essenes were in the company of these

[4:59] angels or extraterrestrial beings.

[5:03] Thou hast raised me up to the

[5:05] everlasting height. I walk on limitless

[5:09] level ground, and I know there is hope

[5:12] for him whom thou hast shaped from the

[5:15] dust for the everlasting counsel. Thou

[5:18] hast cleansed a perversed spirit of

[5:20] great sin, that it may stand with the

[5:23] host of the holy ones, and that it may

[5:26] enter into the community with the

[5:28] congregation of the sons of heaven.

[5:33] In my opinion, this is a description of

[5:37] a close encounter of the fourth kind, a

[5:40] CE4, an event in which a human is taken

[5:45] or abducted by an alien. In this case,

[5:49] it's not a malevolent abduction. It's a

[5:52] benevolent one. They have been raised up

[5:55] to the everlasting height, taken from

[5:58] earth into heaven.

[6:01] This is also a close encounter of the

[6:04] fifth kind, a C5, which involves direct

[6:08] communication between extraterrestrials

[6:11] and humans. This type of interaction,

[6:14] according to Dr. Steven Greer, is a

[6:17] willing and bilateral contact experience

[6:20] through conscious, voluntary, and

[6:23] proactive human initiated cooperative

[6:26] communication and extraterrestrial

[6:28] intelligence.

[6:31] Having been altered,

[6:33] cleansed, taken into the celestial

[6:36] realms, the Essenes now stand with the

[6:40] holy ones, the angels. They have become

[6:43] one of them. They starwalk into the

[6:47] angelic realm. This is a close encounter

[6:51] of the eighth and ninth kind, a CE8 or a

[6:55] CE9.

[6:58] These passages show that the Essenes

[7:01] believed one that they possessed the

[7:04] secrets of God. They learned wisdom.

[7:07] They heard the voice of majesty. They

[7:10] saw and interacted with angels,

[7:14] extraterrestrial beings.

[7:16] they could be raised or translated to

[7:19] heaven and purified so that they could

[7:23] join the holy ones and enter into their

[7:27] company as sons of heaven in Sion, the

[7:31] celestial city.

[7:34] In fact, the purpose of the Essen

[7:36] community was to purify members in

[7:39] anticipation of joining the company

[7:41] [clears throat] of angels in the

[7:42] celestial city.

[7:45] So, what do we know or need to know

[7:49] about this celestial city? For instance,

[7:53] is this celestial city a craft?

[7:57] Are the Essenes talking about something

[7:59] like what we saw in Close Encounters of

[8:02] the Third Kind?

[8:04] Are the angels of the Lord of the

[8:07] Essenes really gray aliens as Spielberg

[8:11] envisions?

[8:13] Are the elder race they spoke of a more

[8:15] advanced ET race?

[8:21] Is the New Jerusalem a massive

[8:23] interstellar spaceship?

[8:26] When viewed from the bottom, the

[8:28] spaceship in Closer Encounters seems to

[8:30] mirror the descent of some kind of a

[8:33] celestial city.

[8:35] But in Christian art, it's referred to

[8:38] as a portal. The New Jerusalem itself is

[8:41] a portal. And this certainly to me makes

[8:44] more sense than does a spaceship.

[8:48] If the [music] New Jerusalem is a

[8:50] portal,

[8:52] does it exist in the material world or

[8:55] does it only exist in the realm of

[8:57] higher consciousness?

[8:59] Is it accessible only by the mystically

[9:02] initiated, the awakened?

[9:06] We must ask these questions early and

[9:08] often.

[9:09] And for the answers, we can begin where

[9:12] the Essenes did, with Ezekiel.

[9:16] A priest and prophet, [music] Ezekiel is

[9:19] one of the contenders for the title of

[9:21] founder of the Essenes. He wrote his

[9:24] visionary book containing his vision of

[9:27] the celestial city while captive along

[9:30] with thousands of other Jews taken from

[9:32] Jerusalem to Babylon between 593 and 571

[9:36] BC after Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the

[9:40] first temple of Solomon.

[9:43] Ezekiel tells how he was among the

[9:45] captives living by the river Chabbar in

[9:48] Babylon when the heavens were opened and

[9:51] I saw visions of God.

[9:55] In the book, Ezekiel tries to convey the

[9:59] limitless realm he experiences via this

[10:02] hole in space to the limited terrestrial

[10:05] mind.

[10:07] The book of Ezekiel tells of the

[10:10] reunification of the 12 Jewish tribes

[10:12] around a manifestation [music]

[10:14] of a new Jerusalem, a perfect

[10:16] cubedshaped heavenly temple or city

[10:20] apparently [music] centered on or

[10:22] hovering above a rebuilt temple of

[10:25] Solomon.

[10:27] Ascension to this celestial throne, the

[10:30] heavenly Jerusalem [music] is the goal

[10:33] of the Essenes. And as their scrolls

[10:36] say, it requires a change in being.

[10:41] And jellification

[10:43] or human transformation into an angel

[10:46] like what the Archangel Michael did for

[10:48] [music] Enoch is one term academics use

[10:52] for this metamorphosis or

[10:54] transformation.

[10:57] This metamorphosis is featured in the

[10:59] Essen story [music] of Enoch, the pre

[11:01] flood sage who walked with God when he

[11:04] was raised to the heavenly city by the

[11:07] archangel Michael and [music]

[11:08] transformed into a glorious and glowing

[11:11] angel named Medatron.

[11:15] As Medatron, [music]

[11:16] he became a guide for all humans on the

[11:19] path of ascension.

[11:23] These are the teachings that were ripped

[11:25] away from the Israelites by King Josiah

[11:28] and replaced with the Ten Commandments

[11:31] as their scrolls were revealed in 1947

[11:34] and we're just now the second and third

[11:36] generations to be able to have access to

[11:39] these scrolls. Seems to me that they

[11:42] have sent out a call to us to answer

[11:46] this call to transform our world to lift

[11:49] the vibration of our planet to go beyond

[11:52] the veil of our ordinary consciousness

[11:54] and begin to interact with and perhaps

[11:57] even live with this advanced race of

[11:59] celestial beings, the angels that the

[12:01] Essenes [music] had called in long ago

[12:05] after the genocide of the Essenes in 68

[12:08] AD. The first to fourth centuries AD saw

[12:11] the Essene ascension teachings go

[12:13] underground and reform as Gnostic.

[12:18] This religion was so named because it

[12:20] depended upon personal spiritual

[12:22] revelation. The nosis or knowledge of

[12:26] God.

[12:27] Nosis simply means knowledge especially

[12:31] of divine mysteries pointing to the

[12:34] mystical desire of the Gnostics to

[12:37] expand their consciousness beyond

[12:39] ordinary perception and to see beyond

[12:42] the veil.

[12:44] This enables access to the divine realm

[12:46] and according to some scholars the

[12:48] mystical path by which the Gnostics

[12:51] attained illumination is mapped and

[12:54] teachable. This means anyone can follow

[12:57] this path.

[12:59] Whereas in the past, ascending to God's

[13:01] throne and seeing his face was

[13:03] prohibited. And in my humble opinion,

[13:06] thanks to the Essenes, now a shift had

[13:09] happened. The Gnostics practicing what

[13:12] they called heckot and Merkabout

[13:14] teachings now began to emphasize the

[13:17] practice of ascension and seeing God.

[13:21] Through the choices one makes in their

[13:23] life, their spiritual practices,

[13:26] mystical techniques, personal deeds, and

[13:28] inner awareness. One can initiate an

[13:31] encounter with an angel and journey to

[13:34] heaven. We can get on our boat and

[13:37] voyage out of this world to the Merkoba,

[13:40] the chamber of God, the heaven of

[13:41] heavens, said the Gnostics.

[13:45] In preparation for this ascension, the

[13:48] Gnostics embarked on a process of self-

[13:50] purification aimed at perfecting oneself

[13:53] and gaining the higher spiritual

[13:55] vibrations of purity, holiness,

[13:58] wholeness, and righteousness.

[14:01] Practices like yoga, fasts, diets,

[14:04] cleansing rituals, singing songs,

[14:06] chanting of hymns, prayers,

[14:08] incantations, and repeating the divine

[14:11] name. Active visualization, meditation

[14:15] were all used to expand the perception

[14:18] of the Gnostic adept.

[14:21] The effect of these practices included

[14:23] ecstatic trance, a sense of the soul,

[14:26] deep meditation, dream vision,

[14:28] hallucination, crossing into other

[14:30] dimensions, and ultimately the

[14:33] dissolution of the human into light.

[14:37] All of the Gnostic spiritual practices

[14:39] were aimed at preparing the mystic to

[14:42] enter the celestial chamber of God or

[14:44] the Merkoba throne and an encounter with

[14:47] the mighty one.

[14:52] After passing through seven heavens, the

[14:55] mystic must penetrate the seven

[14:57] respplendant palaces of the seventh

[14:59] heaven itself before arriving at the

[15:02] throne of glory, said Ezekiel. And once

[15:04] there, the traveler encounters God on

[15:07] his throne.

[15:10] The visionary was taught to expect God

[15:12] to be wearing a garment of light. The

[15:14] vision of it includes a mystical

[15:16] experience that transforms the body of

[15:19] the visionary into light.

[15:23] The Gnostics believed in a divine spark

[15:25] in man deriving from an eternal divine

[15:28] realm fallen into this world of matter

[15:31] and fate and needing to be awakened by a

[15:34] divine counterpart.

[15:37] Simply put, however, Gnosticism is the

[15:40] earliest form of Christianity. The

[15:43] primitive Christianity, the so-called

[15:46] heretics who preceded the historic

[15:48] Christians were all gnostics. It was

[15:51] Roman Catholicism that labeled them

[15:54] heretics in an effort to consolidate its

[15:56] growing power.

[16:00] In 1945, the Gnostic Gospels were

[16:03] discovered in Nagamadi, Egypt. These

[16:06] astonishing manuscripts contain the

[16:08] secret teachings of Jesus and the

[16:11] earliest Christians.

[16:14] Whereas orthodox forms of Christianity

[16:16] found their dogmas and doctrines almost

[16:18] exclusively upon the outer teachings

[16:21] Jesus gave during his brief earthly life

[16:24] and mission. Gnostic Christianity

[16:27] focuses primarily upon the inner and

[16:29] secret teachings Jesus gave after the

[16:32] resurrection.

[16:34] That is Jesus appears to the disciples

[16:37] in his light body form after his

[16:41] ascension. The Gnostics thought of

[16:43] themselves as the true interpreters of

[16:46] these secret teachings of Jesus.

[16:50] The Nagamadi texts again discovered in

[16:52] Egypt in 1945 are Coptic, meaning they

[16:56] are Egyptian Christian examples of these

[16:58] texts. Until 1945, most of what we know

[17:03] about the Gnostics came from they who

[17:05] persecuted them. The Gnostics were

[17:08] condemned as heretics by the bishops of

[17:10] the early Christian church because they

[17:12] would not accept the canon of the New

[17:14] Testament or the apostolic creed or the

[17:16] authority of the new church. But now

[17:20] with the discovery of the Nagamadi

[17:22] texts, we learned who the Gnostics truly

[17:24] were in their own words. Among

[17:32] several highly utilized but previously

[17:34] unknown Gnostic texts was the Gospel of

[17:37] Thomas which contained 114 sayings

[17:41] attributed to Jesus. Scholars believe it

[17:44] was written during the second half of

[17:46] the first century AD. And it's claimed

[17:49] in the Gospel of Thomas that the sayings

[17:52] contained within this gospel contain the

[17:54] secret of salvation.

[17:57] Saying one says, "Whoever finds the

[18:00] interpretation of the sayings will not

[18:02] experience death."

[18:05] The gospel of Thomas begins with the

[18:08] premise that our individual spirits once

[18:11] lived in the all the spiritual universe

[18:13] of divine beings.

[18:16] Then through some primeval catastrophe,

[18:19] the fall of humanity, some human spirits

[18:22] became imprisoned in flesh and blood

[18:24] human bodies and became trapped in the

[18:27] material world, unaware or blind to

[18:30] their true source.

[18:32] But Jesus comes along and saves them by

[18:35] revealing to them the truth of who they

[18:38] are. Divine light beings who belong to

[18:42] another world.

[18:44] This realization frees them from the

[18:47] garments of their material bodies and

[18:50] puts them on the way to acquiring their

[18:52] robe of light.

[18:55] The doctrine of the soul's ascent

[18:57] through the heavenly spheres was a key

[19:00] teaching ofnosticism.

[19:02] The ascension to heaven was equivalent

[19:05] to a spiritual resurrection. And in the

[19:08] fulfillment of the Essen's mission,

[19:10] Jesus cleared the way.

[19:14] In the Gnostic ascension teachings,

[19:16] strange beings called archons barred the

[19:19] way to the seven heavens. And some

[19:21] maintain the archons sought to take

[19:24] human souls.

[19:26] But we don't worry about them because

[19:28] the Gnostics had a remedy or a fix. We

[19:32] could perfect ourselves and put on a

[19:35] garment of perfect light.

[19:38] In the Gospel of Philip, a second

[19:40] century Gnostic work, transformation

[19:43] through Nosis not only allowed the

[19:45] ascent of the soul, but it also made us

[19:47] invisible to the archons, who some

[19:50] believe are actually extraterrestrial

[19:52] beings. Philip says that not only will

[19:55] they be unable to detain the perfect

[19:58] man, but the archons will not be able to

[20:00] see him, for if they see him, they will

[20:03] detain him. There is no other way for a

[20:06] person to acquire this quality except by

[20:09] putting on the perfect light and he too

[20:12] becoming a perfect light.

[20:15] The mysteries of exactly how to become a

[20:18] perfect light being formed the backbone

[20:21] of the Essene revelation that was

[20:23] adopted into the Gnostic religion

[20:26] especially a branch of it called manism.

[20:31] Most people may have never heard of

[20:33] manism or its founder Mani, a Babylonian

[20:37] prophet who has been called the last

[20:39] gnostic.

[20:41] However, this secret society of gnostics

[20:44] were fundamentally Christians. Manayism

[20:48] fused early Christianity and gnosticism

[20:52] and spread from Iran to Egypt, Iraq, and

[20:55] throughout the Middle East.

[20:58] This Chinese painting depicts Jesus as a

[21:02] Manacayan prophet. The figure can be

[21:05] identified as a representation of Christ

[21:08] by the small gold cross that sits on the

[21:11] red lotus pedestal in his left hand.

[21:16] This Chinese painting depicts Manacayan

[21:18] cosmoggony with the realm of light at

[21:21] the top.

[21:23] A number of manan hymns are addressed

[21:26] not to the historical Jesus called Jesus

[21:29] the Messiah but to the light messenger

[21:33] Jesus referred to as Jesus the splendor

[21:37] a magnificent shining being who displays

[21:40] the robe of light.

[21:43] According to manism, Jesus the splendor

[21:46] is sent to awaken Adam and Eve to the

[21:48] source of the spiritual light trapped

[21:51] within their physical bodies. And the

[21:54] aim of the [clears throat] manacayans

[21:55] was the attainment of the light body

[21:57] which they called the beaming garment.

[22:02] This immaterial or flashing light body

[22:06] beamed, meaning it radiated or displayed

[22:09] bursts of light. It came from a light

[22:12] garment that once belonged to Adam,

[22:14] believed the Manachans.

[22:16] It was also instrumental in allowing

[22:19] Jesus to be instantaneously transported

[22:22] or beamed through the wormhole or

[22:25] stargate linking the world of spirit and

[22:28] the material world.

[22:31] We have established that the Cathars

[22:33] were keepers of ascension.

[22:36] Like the Essenes, the Cathars sought to

[22:38] return to our edenic state, our

[22:41] primordial condition before the fall.

[22:44] Back then, we weren't in a lesser state,

[22:47] a physical state as some believe. We

[22:50] were in a suprahuman phase, our light

[22:53] bodies.

[22:56] The Cathars utilized the ascension of

[22:59] Isaiah, an early 2nd to 3rd century AD

[23:03] Gnostic Christian text that follows the

[23:06] journey of the prophet Isaiah out of the

[23:09] suffering of earth life through the

[23:11] seven heavens to the throne of God where

[23:15] Isaiah gets his robe of light. Always

[23:18] this robe of light is present in these

[23:20] ascension stories. This ascension text

[23:23] would help the Cathars to explain the

[23:26] consolmentum

[23:28] because the vision of Isaiah describes

[23:30] the place in the seventh heaven for the

[23:33] righteous dead which would be all those

[23:36] who had received the consolmentum.

[23:40] The vision of Isaiah made its way into

[23:43] the oral tradition of the Cathars. At an

[23:46] interrogation by the Inquisition at

[23:48] Parmier in 1321, a witness testified

[23:52] that a Cathar had told him that another

[23:55] Cathar had once wanted to know whether

[23:58] he was truly following the good faith

[24:00] and the right way of the Cathars.

[24:03] As he prayed to understand this, an

[24:05] angel appeared and granted him

[24:08] successive levels of vision exactly as

[24:10] described in the vision of Isaiah.

[24:14] The man discovered at the end of the

[24:16] vision that he had been away for 32

[24:18] years. What does this mean? Was this

[24:23] vision that he had some kind of a time

[24:25] travel experience or did it mean

[24:28] something else? No one is quite sure,

[24:29] but it's quite an enigmatic line.

[24:34] We will explore how this text was used

[24:37] as a visualization tool to induce

[24:39] visions of the afterlife and to connect

[24:42] the Cathars with their future selves,

[24:45] their light body selves.

[24:48] Through repeated chanting of the text,

[24:51] the body of the Cathars began to know

[24:54] what it felt like to be in heaven among

[24:58] the angels and how to become them. This

[25:01] is something the Essenes taught as well.

[25:04] And today feeling it to manifest it is a

[25:08] principle of quantum healing. At Mont

[25:11] Sagur we learned the legend of a book

[25:15] that has been guarded and protected by

[25:17] the Cathars the pure ones. A manuscript

[25:20] which lies in a leaden casket in the

[25:23] depths of a cavern. This manuscript is

[25:26] called the book of love.

[25:29] Author Elizabeth Van Burren tells us the

[25:32] book of love is said to be the book

[25:34] given to John the Divine by Jesus and is

[25:37] said to contain sublime teachings,

[25:40] marvelous revelations, the most secret

[25:43] words confided by our Lord Jesus Christ

[25:46] to the beloved disciple.

[25:49] Their power would be such that all

[25:51] hatred, all anger, all jealousy would

[25:55] vanish from the hearts of men. The

[25:58] divine love like a new flood would

[26:01] submerge all souls and never again would

[26:05] blood be shed on this earth.

[26:08] Researchers claim the book of love is

[26:11] written in symbols.

[26:14] These symbols are the mystery language

[26:16] of the book of love and they are

[26:18] preserved in curious designs inserted

[26:21] into paper in the form of watermarks.

[26:25] After their extermination by the

[26:27] Catholic Church, the Cathars, those that

[26:30] survived, became paper makers. Scottish

[26:33] mythologist Harold Bailey called these

[26:36] designs thought fossils or thought

[26:39] crystals in which lies the lost

[26:42] teachings of the book of love. These

[26:45] symbols only became visible when the

[26:48] paper was held to the light. Then in a

[26:52] flash came a signal of hope and

[26:55] encouragement to continue on the path of

[26:58] souls.

[27:00] Anton Gdal known as a cathar perfect one

[27:03] or parfait says the primary symbols of

[27:06] the book of love included the light ship

[27:10] of Isis the Egyptian goddess.

[27:14] Now, this is very interesting as the

[27:16] light ship of Isis takes us to Egypt and

[27:19] the ark of the millions of years, the

[27:23] ascension craft, the wormhole-shaped

[27:25] ascension craft that is the ship of the

[27:28] soul of the ancient Egyptian gods.

[27:32] Attached to this light ship in this

[27:34] depiction from the temple of Hatheror at

[27:36] Dendera is a pillar called the head of

[27:39] Osiris. It is the ancient Egyptian

[27:42] symbol for the hope for the afterlife.

[27:46] The hieroglyph for the head of Osiris

[27:49] includes a serpent on a pole.

[27:53] This of course is the healing neahushan

[27:56] pillar of Moses that enabled Moses to

[27:58] make a seraraphim and was the symbol

[28:01] that was banished from the temple of

[28:03] Solomon by King Josiah during his purge.

[28:07] It is the key symbol for the divine

[28:10] feminine mysteries and represents the

[28:13] raising of kundalini in preparation for

[28:16] ascension.

[28:18] This is the most intriguing symbol

[28:21] cataloged by Harold Bailey.

[28:25] In this depiction, this Cathar diagram,

[28:29] four symbols form a device. We see an ox

[28:33] head, a pillar, and a serpent, and three

[28:36] orbs and a horn.

[28:39] The ox is the symbol for the ark of the

[28:42] covenant, which was carried on an ox

[28:44] cart. From the serpent's mouth emerges

[28:48] three circles bound together. This

[28:51] symbol is called the Tfoil. It's the

[28:53] emblem of the Trinity. Notably, it is

[28:57] the symbol for the fifth element, wood.

[29:00] After earth, air, fire, and water, there

[29:02] is the fifth element, wood, also known

[29:05] as quintessence, the chintammani, and

[29:08] the elixir of light, the elixir of

[29:10] immortality.

[29:13] The word Christ means anointed and comes

[29:16] from the Greek charisma and creo to

[29:19] anoint. Thus we have a creo, a horn or a

[29:24] vessel as part of this collection of

[29:26] symbols.

[29:28] So now on to the ascension of Isaiah.

[29:32] This journey is ancient. It begins with

[29:36] what is known as Isaiah's call vision

[29:39] around 740 BC when the Old Testament

[29:43] prophet entered the Holy of Holies of

[29:45] Solomon's temple, the most sacred place

[29:48] in Judaism and saw the Lord enthroned

[29:52] and heard him speak amidst the

[29:55] seraraphim and heard their voices

[29:57] calling, "Holy, holy, holy." He saw the

[30:01] Lord. He heard the Lord and heard the

[30:04] heavenly beings in the temple.

[30:08] A saraph took a burning coal from the

[30:11] incense altar and purified Isaiah's

[30:14] lips. Then Isaiah embarked on a cosmic

[30:18] journey.

[30:20] This cosmic journey is the journey that

[30:23] inspired the Essenes to move out into

[30:25] the wilderness and to expect the

[30:28] arrival, as Isaiah described, the

[30:30] arrival of a high celestial being.

[30:35] Isaiah's ability to enter the heavenly

[30:37] realms showed that it's possible to

[30:40] transcend worlds, especially from

[30:42] Solomon's temple.

[30:44] All could enter this realm by actively

[30:47] following the path of Isaiah. So the

[30:50] ascension keepers taught.

[30:52] This may be one reason why when the

[30:54] church of Roma came to burn the Cathars

[30:57] during the Albagenzian crusade and the

[30:59] Inquisition, the Cathars went willingly

[31:02] into the fires. They knew where they

[31:05] were going.

[31:09] During his journey in the second heaven,

[31:12] Isaiah is so overcome with what he sees

[31:15] that he falls on his face to adore the

[31:18] angel on the throne. But his angelic

[31:21] guide warns him not to adore the angel

[31:23] or the throne of that heaven. No, adore

[31:27] him only of whom I will tell you. and in

[31:30] like fashion adore him who is above all

[31:33] angels, above thrones, and above the

[31:36] garments and crowns which you will see

[31:39] hereafter.

[31:40] Those garments and crowns are the

[31:42] garments and crowns sought by the

[31:45] Essenes.

[31:47] Isaiah also saw a human form on the

[31:50] throne. Quote, "In the year that King

[31:53] Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting upon

[31:56] a throne high and lifted up and his

[32:00] train filled the temple. Above him stood

[32:03] the Saraphim."

[32:06] This throne is the Merkoba throne, the

[32:09] celestial vehicle of the higher beings,

[32:12] the throne that the Essenes sought.

[32:15] Merkoba or throne literature describes

[32:18] the beings who dwell at the heavenly

[32:20] throne room in the celestial holy of

[32:22] holies in the celestial temple.

[32:26] The Heckalot Zutardi says their walking

[32:30] is like the appearance of a lightning

[32:31] bolt. A vision of them is like a vision

[32:34] of a rainbow. Their faces are like a

[32:37] vision of a bride. Their wings are like

[32:40] the radiance of the clouds of glory on

[32:44] which God rode in the heavens.

[32:47] This means these saraphim are rainbow

[32:51] body plasma beings. And in my opinion,

[32:55] they are the same as the beings

[32:58] described in the Tibetan rainbow light

[32:59] body tradition.

[33:03] As Isaiah's vision continues, his

[33:06] journey continues. Each succeeding

[33:09] heaven is more glorious than the

[33:12] previous one. And Isaiah is filled with

[33:15] joy.

[33:17] In the sixth heaven, Isaiah is told that

[33:20] no one has seen what he has seen. And he

[33:23] has promised his place in the seventh

[33:26] heaven upon his death when he will

[33:29] receive his garment and will be equal to

[33:32] the angels.

William Henry asks this question directly in the video and argues that the New Jerusalem is better understood as a portal between heaven and earth than as a spacecraft. He notes that Christian art has long described the city as a portal, and that the ship in Close Encounters of the Third Kind only resembles a descending city when viewed from below. The spaceship reading is Henry's interpretive overlay, not a claim the scrolls make on their own.
In the video, the robe of glory symbolizes the Essenes' conversion into an energy pattern and the attainment of a celestial light body. Henry explains that this body could be reconverted into flesh and blood, allowing a person to move between earthly and celestial states of being. He links this to the idea of perfecting earthly flesh into celestial flesh.
In the Essene story Henry describes, Enoch was a pre-flood sage who walked with God. The archangel Michael raised him to the heavenly city and transformed him into a glorious, glowing angel named Metatron. As Metatron, he becomes a guide for humans on the path of ascension.
Henry states in the video that the Gnostic Gospels were discovered in 1945 at Nag Hammadi, Egypt. He describes them as containing the secret teachings of Jesus and the earliest Christians, focused on inner teaching given after the resurrection.
Henry applies the close encounter scale from UFO research to passages in the scrolls, labeling a vision of angels a third-kind encounter and a passage about being raised to stand with the holy ones an eighth- and ninth-kind encounter. These categories are modern ufological terms, not ancient ones. Readers can take the passages as accounts of visionary contact without accepting that they describe extraterrestrial craft.
In the video, Henry says the Cathars, like the Essenes, sought a path of ascent out of the suffering of earth life. He connects their outlook to Isaiah's vision of a human form on a celestial throne and describes them as the pure ones. He also says they went willingly into the fire, knowing where they were going.
Ascension Keepers is a Gaia original series in which William Henry explores the history, philosophy and spiritual practices of the Essenes, Gnostics and Cathars. The video discussed here is a segment of that series, and it is most valuable as an introduction to these traditions and their primary texts. Its UFO interpretations are Henry's own reading and are best weighed against the scriptures he quotes.
