Acerca de Este Evento

Descripción

Trauma Sensitive Yoga for Females on Zoom is a free, gentle online yoga class for female survivors, offered by YogaSong and Victim Services Inc. It is held live on Zoom and is led by Rachel Allen, a registered yoga teacher who works from a trauma informed framework. The class runs for one hour in the evening, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

What to Expect

This is a trauma sensitive yoga (TSY) class, which means the practice is gentle and the pace is unhurried. Choices and options are offered throughout, so you can shape the practice to suit your body and your needs on the day. The environment is described as accepting, and everyone is warmly welcomed.

The focus is on tools and supports for nervous system integration, and on taking what you practice off the mat and into daily life. The class is a space to build skills you can return to on your own, in whatever way is useful to you.

About Rachel Allen

Rachel Allen is a Certified Music Practitioner, Sound Healer, Reiki Master and Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher who works from a trauma informed, social justice framework. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology and is based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, serving the greater Pittsburgh region and working with individuals and organizations virtually. She describes her work as merging music, yoga and community, with the aim of creating healthy, diverse and joyful communities.

Music is at the heart of her offerings. Her yoga classes are theme-based and bring together yogic philosophy, breathwork, asana, live music and meditation. She also leads community singing and sound healing, using chant, mantra and free movement, drawing on her own compositions, on years of group singing across cultures and on the Yogic tradition.

Before You Go

No yoga experience is necessary. The class is free, and because choices are built into the practice, newcomers and those with more experience can take part in the same way.

Pre-registration is required for everyone, and the Zoom link is sent to those who register through Victim Services. You are welcome to invite people you know who may find this service and support relevant, though each person needs to register for themselves.
