Réveillon Serenity

Réveillon Serenity is a three-day New Year's wellness retreat at Estrela Serenity in Gouveia, in the Serra da Estrela mountains of Portugal. It suits couples and friends who want to see in the New Year with good food, live music, yoga and meditation, in a quiet mountain setting rather than a crowded city celebration. The programme runs in English and Portuguese.

What to Expect

The stay covers two nights and begins on the 30th with a welcome moment by the fire pit, with mulled wine and hot chocolate. That evening brings a cocktail dinner with a tasting of Letra craft beers, followed by live music.

New Year's Eve is the centre of the retreat. A group yoga class and a group meditation session sit among the festivities, with timing following the resort's schedule. There is also a property tour with tastings of selected local products, including regional cheeses, cured meats and wines. The evening moves into a gala dinner with live instrumental jazz, then a toast with sparkling wine at midnight. A DJ and open bar carry on until 2:00 am. Across the days, the music draws on bossa nova, jazz and samba canção.

On New Year's Day, a brunch from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm closes the programme at an unhurried pace.

The Setting

Estrela Serenity sits in Gouveia, among the landscapes of Serra da Estrela. The retreat is built around that tranquillity and around the flavours of the region, with the food and tastings celebrating local products and traditions.

The package is based on a shared double room for two people, with breakfast on both mornings. Guests also have access to the spa and gym during their stay. Meals through the weekend include the cocktail dinner, the gala dinner, the midnight toast and the New Year's Day brunch, alongside the tastings and welcome drinks.

Before You Go

No experience level is stated, and the yoga and meditation sessions are offered as group classes within the wider programme, so they are set among the celebrations rather than being the sole focus. This is a festive wellness retreat more than a silent or intensive practice retreat.
