Acerca de Este Evento

Descripción

This free yoga and mindfulness class is part of a monthly series at the Lilly-Washington Public Library in Lilly, Pennsylvania. It is led by Rachel Allen of YogaSong and centers on wellness, mindfulness and community. People of varying abilities are welcome, so it suits both those who are new to yoga and those who already have a practice.

The class runs for one hour in the evening, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

What to Expect

Rachel teaches a community yoga class in the library setting, with attention to mindfulness and to the feeling of practicing alongside neighbors. The class is open to a range of abilities, so you can work at your own level and use props as you need them. Because the series meets monthly, it offers a regular place to come back to.

Rachel's classes more broadly are theme-based, drawing together yogic philosophy, breathwork, asana, live music and meditation. The material for this particular evening does not spell out its theme or format, so the best picture is a welcoming, accessible hour built around wellness and presence.

About Rachel Allen

Rachel Allen is a Registered Yoga Teacher with years of experience. She is also a Certified Music Practitioner, Sound Healer and Reiki Master, and she works from a trauma informed, social justice framework. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology. Based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, she serves the greater Pittsburgh region and works with individuals and organizations virtually.

Her work merges music, yoga and community, with the aim of creating healthy, diverse and joyful communities. Music is at the heart of what she offers: she also leads community singing and sound healing, using chant, mantra and free movement. Some of the pieces are her own compositions, and others come from her years of group singing across cultures and from the Yogic tradition.

The Setting

The class takes place at the Lilly-Washington Public Library, at 101 Memorial Drive, Suite 2, in Lilly, Pennsylvania. A library is an unhurried, familiar place to practice, and it keeps the gathering rooted in the local community.

Before You Go

The class is free, and people of varying abilities are welcome. Bring a yoga mat or towel and any props you like to use. A limited number of mats and props are available at the library, so if you rely on your own equipment, it is best to bring it. Space and supplies are modest, and an RSVP is requested through the library.

The program is funded through the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance 1889 Foundation Creative Health Impact Grant, which is what allows it to be offered at no cost.
