Descripción
Many of us carry the imprint of difficult experiences in the body long after the events themselves have passed: worry that will not settle, a jaw that stays tight, a quick temper, flat and numb stretches of days, sleep that never quite restores. Coming Home to Yourself, guided by clinical psychologist Jeffrey Rutstein, PsyD, is a nine-month programme for understanding these patterns through the lens of the nervous system and gently building new pathways of safety, steadiness and connection.
The programme was formerly titled the Healing Trauma Program, and Rutstein has offered it since 2021, refining it each year. He renamed it to make clear that it is not only for people diagnosed with trauma, but for anyone feeling the emotional and physical weight of challenging life events, or simply of living through the present times. At its heart is a message he offers every participant: "There is nothing wrong with you." In his view, our patterns are forms of protection rather than failures, and change comes through understanding them, softening shame and repeated, lived experiences of safety in community.
What You'll Learn
- Self-regulation. How your nervous system behaves in distressing moments, and how to widen your window of tolerance when fight, flight or freeze responses take over.
- Safety in the body. Internal pathways of calm and connection that return you to grounded, physical presence.
- Recognizing triggers. What activates your own responses, and how to work with them in the moment.
- A daily toolbox. Regulation practices, meditations and reflections for self-awareness, agency and inner strength.
- Becoming a healing presence. Learning to be the calm person in the room, a caring source of comfort for others.
Inside the Programme
Coming Home to Yourself moves through three phases, with more than thirty hours of on-demand video lessons alongside live teaching and community gatherings:
1. Trauma and the Body: self-regulation and experiential practices, with Peter A. Levine, Konda Mason and Judith Blackstone.
2. Relationships and Connecting with Others: the movement from protection to connection, with Gabor Maté, Sará King, Susan Stiffelman and john a. powell, and a mid-programme practice retreat.
3. Becoming a Healing Presence in the World: sending signals of safety and moving toward collective healing, with Thomas Hübl, Arielle Schwartz, Resmaa Menakem, Woman Stands Shining (Pat McCabe) and Ruth King.
Deb Dana joins as a core teacher. Expect roughly one to one and a quarter hours of learning a week, around thirty minutes of instruction and forty of guided practice. The trauma-sensitive practices include breathwork, awareness of sensation, compassion and felt-sense practices and other somatic exercises, with guided meditations, reflective prompts, music and visual aids on an online community platform. A certificate of completion is available to those who view all lessons and live sessions, or their recordings, and complete each monthly module.
Who It's For
The programme is for anyone who wants to develop self-regulation skills for their own wellbeing and to become a steadier presence for others, including helping professionals such as yoga teachers, health care workers, coaches, educators, parents and bodyworkers.
It may speak to you if you live with:
- worry, repetitive thoughts or trouble sleeping
- ongoing tension in the jaw, shoulders or breath
- reactivity, irritability or anger that is hard to shake
- numbness, low energy or a sense of being stuck
- feelings of unworthiness or isolation
Coming Home to Yourself is an educational programme, not individual or group therapy, and it does not replace medical, psychiatric or psychological care. Sounds True advises that it is not the right time to join if you are in an acute trauma state, managing impulses toward self-harm, have recently experienced severe trauma or live with significant dissociative symptoms, and suggests talking with a doctor or therapist if you are unsure.

How It Works
Coming Home to Yourself is a live online programme with Sounds True that begins on January 29, 2027 and runs for nine months as blended learning: the video lessons are pre-recorded, and the live sessions are recorded and available on demand within 72 business hours. Each month brings a one-hour live Going Deeper session with Rutstein, typically on the last Thursday from 8 to 9 pm ET; two optional office hours with him on Thursdays, at 12 to 1 pm or 8 to 9 pm ET; and two optional small-group practice sessions on Tuesdays at the same times. Live community events mark the opening, middle and close, and you keep lifetime access to all content.
Enrolment also includes three live bonus workshops with Rutstein before the start, each from 11 am to 2 pm ET / 8 to 11 am PT, with lifetime access to the recordings: From Overthinking to Inner Ease on Saturday, November 7, 2026; What Are You Really Reaching For? on Saturday, December 5, 2026; and When Everything Feels Like Too Much on Saturday, January 9, 2027. BrightStar lists the programme so that seekers exploring somatic practice, nervous system care and inner work can find it alongside the conscious events and teachers they already follow.
