Awaken the Artist Within: Evolution

A five-day art immersion at Esalen Institute led by award-winning painters Erin Lee Gafill and Tom Birmingham. The workshop emphasizes process over perfection, inviting participants to explore multiple mediums including torn paper collage, color field painting, observational sketching, acrylic and watercolor painting, and free writing. Drawing on more than thirty years of combined teaching experience, Gafill and Birmingham guide exploration of the interplay between freedom and structure, inspiration and technique, abstraction and observation, happenstance and control. Set against the landscape of Big Sur, the workshop creates space for curiosity and playfulness, where artistic impulses organically transform into intentional expression. No prior experience necessary.
