How Spiritual Practice Transforms DailyLife Into Sacred Teaching

On September 19, 2026, Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma) held a live event that wove together guided meditations, personal testimonies, and profound teachings on the art of recognizing the divine in ordinary life. The seven-hour gathering became less a lecture than an invitation—to sit in silence, to reimagine the body as a temple of awakening cells, and to confront one of spirituality's oldest paradoxes: how to stay pure when the world around you is soaked in contradiction.

The Geography of Inner Silence

The event opened with a guided meditation anchored in the sacred syllable Om—specifically, the Aum mantra broken into its components: Ma, representing divine love, and Om, representing divine light. Amma's instruction was precise and sensory. Participants were asked to sit with spine erect, eyes closed, and synchronize breath with sound. As you inhale, feel the vibrations of Ma ascending through the body to the crown of the head; as you exhale, feel Om descending. The technique dissolves the boundary between sound and breath, turning respiration into a living mantra.

"We need love and light inside and outside for this journey of life to be peaceful, harmonious and blissful," Amma taught. The meditation then invited the mind to visualize white flowers of peace falling from the entire sky onto the entire earth—not as passive imagery, but as an act of compassionate intention directed toward the whole of creation. Forests, rivers, mountains, oceans, animals, and finally oneself all receive these flowers. The practice acknowledges what Amma frequently emphasizes: our minds are limited, and visualization need only extend as far as individual capacity allows. There is no competition in spirituality, no score kept for who visualizes the most perfectly.

Why Does Every Cell Matter in Spiritual Practice?

Amma introduced a cellular meditation grounded in her teaching that the body is made up of millions of significant cells, each one capable of awakening. When cells in the inner ear degenerate, the whole body loses balance. When muscle cells fail, the entire limb suffers. By extension, when consciousness fails to penetrate a single cell, the whole being remains partially asleep.

In this meditation, practitioners were guided to feel every cell from the toes to the top of the head awakening, getting purified, and dancing in divine bliss—"like the sparks emitted by a sparkler." Golden light permeates each cell. The body becomes not a machine to be transcended but a universe to be illuminated from within. This is radical embodiment: the spiritual path runs not away from the flesh but through every fiber of it.

Two Paths, One Destination

Amma acknowledged that devotees meditate in different ways. Those drawn to form-based practice were guided to visualize the lotus feet of their beloved deity or the Divine Mother, engaging in ceremonial worship in the mind's eye. The prayer that followed carried the raw vulnerability of a child clinging to its mother: "Oh divine mother, never leave this child of yours. Without you, my life is softened. Your lap is my one and only refuge." Amma emphasized the paradox of spiritual seeking: we are helplessly blind without guidance, yet our ego makes us restless, eager to jump and fall. The solution is not independence but a deeper surrender—to be held so tightly that no worldly distraction can pry us loose.

For those drawn to formless meditation, Amma offered a different architecture: visualize a self-luminous white pearl at a triangle formed between the eyebrows and the middle of the forehead. Watch it glow like a firefly, then transform into a flame that descends and expands to encircle the entire body. Feel yourself becoming one with this light. Both paths—devotional and non-dual—arrive at the same threshold: the dissolution of separation between self and the infinite.

What Does It Mean to See God in the World?

The turning point of the event came with a personal testimony from a long-time devotee. In 2017, during Amma's Europe tour, this devotee confessed her fear of becoming lost in the world. Amma's response was unadorned: "See God in the word." But the devotee struggled. How could she see God in neighbors who smoked all day, drank alcohol, and held barbecues every weekend? Amma had also taught: "When we go to a charcoal factory, no matter how careful we are, we still get stains on our shirt." The world, in other words, is inherently staining. Yet the instruction remained: see God anyway.

This is not naïveté or denial. It is a radical reframing of perception. The devotee eventually moved into an ashram community, but the teaching stayed with her long before that move. The question—how to recognize the divine in a fallen world—is the daily practice of anyone trying to live a spiritual life outside a monastery or ashram. Amma's answer does not eliminate the problem. It transforms the problem into the path.

The Grace of Tiny Adjustments

Later in the event, Amma returned to a theme she explores repeatedly: the power of the guru's guidance expressed through small corrections. A mother does not punish the finger that touches the fire; she simply guides it away. The guru acts with equal tenderness. When Amma "extricated" the devotee from a difficult situation, the movement was so subtle, so woven into the fabric of life, that the devotee did not immediately recognize it as grace. Only in retrospect—after years of living in the ashram, after developing stability—could she see that she had been guided all along.

Amma teaches that the presence of a spiritual master is not glamorous intervention but constant, patient redirection. A teacher places her thumb on a student's hand and the hand corrects itself. No force. No drama. Just the steady pressure of love saying: this way.

The Discipline of Small Goals

Another dimension emerged when Amma addressed the question of how to sustain spiritual practice in the face of worldly distraction. One student shared that she could study for hours if the subject moved her heart, but when lacking that interest, an hour felt like an eternity. The solution, Amma suggested, was not to force enthusiasm but to understand that the same discipline needed for studies must be applied to daily life and actions. Spirituality is not a separate dimension reserved for meditation time; it is the quality of attention brought to every gesture, every word, every choice—even the mundane decision to be on time, to show up, to keep a small promise to oneself.

The devotee who had struggled with neighbors eventually realized something: her daughter could not wait for perfect conditions. A child growing in the countryside needed an uplifting environment now, not in some future ashram. The conflict was resolved not by choosing between worldly life and spiritual life, but by recognizing that the ashram—or any genuine spiritual community—is not a place you escape to; it is a quality of consciousness you bring with you, and it grows in the soil of commitment, service, and the willingness to be corrected.

Where to go from here

Amma's September 2026 event offers several entry points for deeper practice. Those new to mantra meditation might begin with the Aum practice as taught here—a simple synchronization of breath and sound that requires no special equipment, only a few minutes each day. The cellular visualization and the world peace meditation can be returned to as anchoring practices when the mind feels scattered or the heart heavy. For those in relationships, communities, or families that feel far from spiritual ideals, Amma's teaching to "see God in the word" becomes a daily koan—not a doctrine to believe, but a perception to develop, one neighbor, one moment, one small correction at a time. The testimony woven throughout the event reminds us that grace does not rush; it exerts the steady pressure of love, and only years later do we recognize we were being held.

[1:59:39] Ohara,

[1:59:45] let us meditate for some time in Ama's

[1:59:48] divine presence.

[1:59:51] Sit erect keeping your spine straight.

[1:59:57] Close your eyes.

[2:00:01] Be focused

[2:00:03] deep within yourselves.

[2:00:06] Experience the inner silence,

[2:00:09] the inner stillness.

[2:00:24] Let go all the stress and strain of the

[2:00:27] body and the mind. Feel

[2:00:31] totally relaxed

[2:00:33] physically and mentally.

[2:00:40] Remain present here

[2:00:42] in this very moment.

[2:01:05] We will now together chant

[2:01:08] the prrenava mantra

[2:01:11] the sacred syllable three times

[2:01:16] as you chant.

[2:01:18] Feel the sound

[2:01:20] arising from deep within you.

[2:01:27] Take a deep breath.

[2:01:42] Oh.

[2:01:54] Oh.

[2:02:08] Oh.

[2:02:18] Oh.

[2:02:35] Feel

[2:02:42] the reverberations of the syllable

[2:02:46] spreading to each and every cell of the

[2:02:49] body.

[2:03:08] Slowly

[2:03:11] focus your attention on your breathing.

[2:03:17] Breathe in a normal,

[2:03:19] relaxed, rhythmic way.

[2:03:24] Be aware of every inhalation

[2:03:28] and every exhalation.

[2:03:34] Just watch each and every breath of

[2:03:38] yours.

[2:04:09] Now as you breathe in,

[2:04:13] feel the vibrations of the sound

[2:04:16] more

[2:04:19] with the inhaled air.

[2:04:22] And as you breathe out, feel the

[2:04:25] vibrations of the sound

[2:04:30] with the exhaled air.

[2:04:36] As you breathe in more,

[2:04:38] feel the vibrations of this sound

[2:04:41] ascending through your body,

[2:04:45] finally reaching the top of your head.

[2:04:48] And as you breathe out,

[2:04:51] feel the vibrations of this sound

[2:04:54] descending through your being.

[2:04:58] Ma represents divine love.

[2:05:01] Om represents divine light.

[2:05:05] We need love and light inside and

[2:05:07] outside for this journey of life to be

[2:05:10] peaceful, harmonious and blissful.

[2:05:16] synchronize every breath, the inhalation

[2:05:20] with the vibrations of ma

[2:05:23] and the exhalation with the vibrations

[2:05:27] of oh

[2:05:32] moo

[2:05:43] Ah!

[2:05:49] Ooh!

[2:05:54] Mom!

[2:06:00] Ooh!

[2:06:06] Let the flow of these sounds be

[2:06:08] continuous in your breathing.

[2:16:09] Slowly

[2:16:12] feel the sounds m and dome

[2:16:18] fading away from your breath,

[2:16:21] taking you into a state of profound

[2:16:24] peace and silence.

[2:16:40] Like a bud blossoming into a flower,

[2:16:45] experience your heart blossoming

[2:16:49] and becoming one with the supreme

[2:16:51] consciousness.

[2:16:54] Feel

[2:17:00] it getting filled with divine love

[2:18:38] Visualize white flowers of peace

[2:18:42] incessently shoving from the entire sky

[2:18:46] onto the entire earth.

[2:18:49] Our minds being limited, it is difficult

[2:18:52] to visualize the entire earth and the

[2:18:54] sky. You may visualize to the extent

[2:18:58] that your mind permits.

[2:19:01] Those who are new to this meditation,

[2:19:04] please have a look at the visual on the

[2:19:06] screen that demonstrates the

[2:19:08] visualization

[2:19:09] and meditate accordingly.

[2:20:15] Now visualize the white flowers of peace

[2:20:19] falling into the oceans.

[2:20:45] into the rivers.

[2:20:59] >> Visualize them falling on the mountains.

[2:21:16] on the forest.

[2:21:39] on every bird and animal.

[2:21:52] >> And now visualize the white flowers of

[2:21:54] peace falling on your head as well.

[2:22:19] forchech.

[2:22:49] for

[2:23:23] always reminds us that our bodies are

[2:23:25] made up of millions of cells and each

[2:23:28] cell is significant.

[2:23:32] When the cells lining the inner ear

[2:23:34] canal are damaged, it leads to an

[2:23:37] imbalance in the body as we try to walk.

[2:23:40] When the cells of a muscle start

[2:23:42] degenerating,

[2:23:44] it affects the functioning of the whole

[2:23:46] muscle. Feel every cell right from your

[2:23:50] toes to the top of your head awakening,

[2:23:55] getting purified

[2:23:57] and dancing in divine bliss

[2:24:00] like the sparks emitted by a sparkler.

[2:24:04] Feel the sparks of golden light

[2:24:06] permeating every cell.

[2:24:09] Experience the dance of millions of

[2:24:11] cells within, illuminated with the

[2:24:14] golden light. Experience the bliss

[2:24:17] within.

[2:24:18] Let us be alert and aware as we take

[2:24:21] part in this meditation.

[2:24:23] Let us not allow our minds to run after

[2:24:27] the shimmer of worldly distractions.

[2:29:21] those who meditate on a form.

[2:29:24] You may visualize the form of your

[2:29:27] beloved deity

[2:29:29] or of the divine mother within you.

[2:29:33] Imagine that you're doing the ceremonial

[2:29:36] worship, the ceremonial washing of the

[2:29:38] lotus feet of the beloved one.

[2:29:42] Pray within.

[2:29:44] Oh divine mother, never leave this child

[2:29:47] of yours. Without you, my life is

[2:29:51] softened. Your lap is my one and only

[2:29:54] refuge. The moments I sit on your lap

[2:29:57] are the moments I feel safe and secure.

[2:30:01] Never abandon this child of yours. Never

[2:30:04] leave me alone.

[2:30:06] Oh mother, as I take this journey of

[2:30:09] life, hold on to me tightly.

[2:30:13] If I hold on to you, there are chances

[2:30:16] that after a while I get distracted by

[2:30:19] the sights and attractions around me and

[2:30:22] I might go running behind these toys and

[2:30:25] I may eventually land in a pit out of

[2:30:29] which I may never be able to come out in

[2:30:32] this lifetime. But if you hold on to me,

[2:30:35] this will never happen. I will reach my

[2:30:39] goal safe and secure.

[2:30:42] Oh compassionate mother, like a newborn

[2:30:45] infant, I am helplessly blind. I have no

[2:30:49] knowledge of the world and its objects.

[2:30:52] I reside in your sweet arms. But due to

[2:30:55] my ego, I may become restless and start

[2:30:58] jumping and easily slip and fall. To

[2:31:02] prevent me from falling, please hold on

[2:31:04] to me ever so tightly.

[2:31:07] Please guide me forever.

[2:31:12] Like a fish on the shore yearns to get

[2:31:14] back to the waters.

[2:31:17] In a similar way, let us invoke the

[2:31:19] longing for our beloved deity or for the

[2:31:23] divine mother within.

[2:31:25] Those who meditate on the formless.

[2:31:28] You may imagine that you are drawing a

[2:31:30] triangle

[2:31:32] starting from the point between your

[2:31:34] eyebrows to the middle of your forehead.

[2:31:38] Visualize a self-luminous

[2:31:41] glittering white pearl at the center of

[2:31:44] this triangle.

[2:31:46] Like a firefly glowing, visualize this

[2:31:49] pearl glowing in all brilliance.

[2:31:53] Be totally focused on this glow for a

[2:31:56] while.

[2:31:59] After some time, imagine this glow

[2:32:03] taking the form of a flame.

[2:32:05] See it come out of the triangle, descend

[2:32:08] downwards

[2:32:10] and become bigger and brighter.

[2:32:13] Visualize it encircling your body right

[2:32:17] from your feet to the top of your head.

[2:32:20] Feel this light spreading all around.

[2:32:24] Imagine yourselves becoming one with

[2:32:26] this light.

[2:37:45] My humble pron's lotus feet

[2:37:49] showing us the path

[2:37:52] and salutations to all of Amma's darling

[2:37:55] John

[2:38:00] During Ammitri Vashini's first year we

[2:38:03] were here in Amritapuri.

[2:38:06] Then we went back to France living in

[2:38:09] the countryside

[2:38:11] surrounded by magnificent nature

[2:38:15] next to a small river with space to grow

[2:38:18] vegetables and flowers.

[2:38:22] We were hosting monthly satsang and were

[2:38:26] singing pajans twice a month with local

[2:38:28] devotees.

[2:38:31] Those moments were rays of sun but too

[2:38:35] sporadic

[2:38:38] and we lacked funds to travel to the

[2:38:40] French ashram or to Amritapuri.

[2:38:44] We were deeply missing Amma's physical

[2:38:48] presence,

[2:38:49] the Kali temple and the gallery.

[2:38:53] And I was longing for an uplifting

[2:38:55] environment for my daughter.

[2:39:00] In 2017 during the Europe tour, I told

[2:39:04] Amma that I was scared to get lost in

[2:39:07] the word and Amma replied,

[2:39:12] "See God in the word."

[2:39:16] Well, Amma reminds us that when we go to

[2:39:20] a charcoal factory,

[2:39:22] no matter how careful we are, we still

[2:39:26] get stains on our shirt.

[2:39:29] So, how was I supposed to see God in the

[2:39:32] word? In our neighbors who smoked all

[2:39:36] day, drunk alcohol,

[2:39:40] and had barbecues every weekend.

[2:39:45] I still tried my best to apply Emma's

[2:39:48] advice.

[2:39:49] So, despite their habits, there was

[2:39:52] solidarity among them.

[2:39:55] The mother shouted at her son often, but

[2:39:59] her love was palpable whenever he fell

[2:40:01] down or got sick.

[2:40:05] Cigarettes, alcohol, and yelling were

[2:40:09] just gray clouds

[2:40:11] covering the sun of love.

[2:40:15] Amma says, "Don't hate the person, hate

[2:40:19] the bad behavior."

[2:40:23] Actually with the house surrounded by

[2:40:26] nature, Amma had granted our desires.

[2:40:30] Yet something was deeply missing.

[2:40:35] Was it her divine Maya to make us

[2:40:38] realize what was most important?

[2:40:44] As the Bajan says,

[2:41:01] in the

[2:41:08] I had everything

[2:41:11] but my life felt empty without you.

[2:41:17] Are you a leader?

[2:41:37] Okay.

[2:41:54] A year later in 2018, Amma told us

[2:41:57] several times, Amita Puri, Amritapuri,

[2:42:02] Amitapuri, Amitapuri,

[2:42:05] Ammitri Puri.

[2:42:07] And then come to Asham.

[2:42:11] So Amita Varini and I spent two months

[2:42:14] in Amritapuri

[2:42:15] and then we all moved to the south

[2:42:18] French ashram.

[2:42:20] I felt as if I was leaving the charcoal

[2:42:23] factory of the world to reach the

[2:42:26] perfume factory of Amma Ashram.

[2:42:30] But there it was as is the beautiful

[2:42:33] waterfall of the ashram

[2:42:37] who was pouring into the inner vessel of

[2:42:39] my mind to make all the dirt come up.

[2:42:44] So in the perfume factory of the French

[2:42:46] asham I met my inner charcoal factory.

[2:42:59] I faced my own negativities.

[2:43:03] I realized I had not been able to accept

[2:43:05] my previous neighbors because I had not

[2:43:08] accepted my own imperfections.

[2:43:12] They were a difficult mirror.

[2:43:14] To see God in the word, we need purity

[2:43:17] of mind.

[2:43:20] In the Bhagavad Gita Shloka 29 chapter

[2:43:23] 6, Sri Krishna says,

[2:43:40] One whose mind is united in yoga sees

[2:43:44] the self residing in all beings and all

[2:43:48] beings in the self.

[2:43:52] Amma also says

[2:43:54] devotion for the Lord and compassion for

[2:43:58] the word are two sides of the same coin.

[2:44:02] We must learn to love everyone equally

[2:44:06] because in essence we are all one atman.

[2:44:12] Seeing God in the world is a goal and a

[2:44:15] path.

[2:44:17] The Brahmacharini who trained us before

[2:44:20] we were married by Amma in France told

[2:44:23] us the goal of marriage is to see God in

[2:44:27] at least one person

[2:44:37] even if if we can't see God in everyone.

[2:44:41] Amma looked so happy when she married us

[2:44:44] and now I understand that she was

[2:44:47] rejoicing at the opportunity given to us

[2:44:50] to work on our ego.

[2:44:54] We probably started our relationship as

[2:44:57] two beggars expecting each other's love

[2:45:01] and we are now trying

[2:45:07] trying to become givers.

[2:45:10] There's still a long way to love

[2:45:11] unconditionally and see the divine in

[2:45:14] each other. However, I'm very grateful

[2:45:17] that we are both Amma's children.

[2:45:22] Like many nuclear families in the West,

[2:45:24] living without the support of a joint

[2:45:27] family. My husband and I felt

[2:45:30] overwhelmed when our daughter was born.

[2:45:35] By Amma's grace, we reached Amritapuri

[2:45:38] when she was two months old.

[2:45:41] Amma was our emotional support and far

[2:45:44] beyond.

[2:45:46] Yet, it was not easy.

[2:45:49] Before becoming a mother, I used to

[2:45:52] connect with Amma through SA and Bajans.

[2:45:56] The baby had interest the baby Amma had

[2:46:00] entrusted to us was quite intense and

[2:46:03] restless.

[2:46:10] I'm going to do it.

[2:46:20] Hence doing CA was difficult.

[2:46:23] To give you an idea, Laabes were of no

[2:46:26] help to put her to sleep. Only the

[2:46:30] Mahisha surinist

[2:46:38] used to calm her down

[2:46:44] during sunset and pageant time. She used

[2:46:47] to cry endlessly. So we were not able to

[2:46:50] attend pageantss.

[2:46:53] This created an inner struggle.

[2:46:56] It seems choosing the householders path

[2:46:59] is pulling me away from Amma. Did I make

[2:47:03] a mistake?

[2:47:07] One evening during Darian, I desperately

[2:47:09] wanted to give Prasad. The line was long

[2:47:13] and knowing my tiny baby could not wait,

[2:47:16] I skipped it. So, as you can imagine, I

[2:47:20] faced a few disapproving glances.

[2:47:31] When I reached the pitham, in Amma's

[2:47:34] soft face, I saw my baby's face

[2:47:38] and the message was clear. When you take

[2:47:40] care of your child,

[2:47:43] imagine you're taking care of me.

[2:47:48] When you take care of your child with

[2:47:49] love, you are taking care of me. Think

[2:47:52] you are with the divine.

[2:47:55] This moment helped me to surrender.

[2:47:58] My way to connect with God. My dharma

[2:48:02] was no caring for my baby.

[2:48:05] The situation remained the same but my

[2:48:08] mindset transformed.

[2:48:10] And now Amita Varini deeply loves Bajans

[2:48:14] and Sava.

[2:48:17] I feel

[2:48:20] so grateful to be able to live my dharma

[2:48:22] as a mother

[2:48:28] in this secret place.

[2:48:31] In Amma's presence, motherhood became

[2:48:33] meaningful and my heart feels deep

[2:48:36] gratitude to raise my daughter in such a

[2:48:38] blessed environment.

[2:48:45] I used to feel bitter about my own

[2:48:47] childhood. I grew up with the sole

[2:48:49] purpose of doing well at school to make

[2:48:52] my parents proud and maybe get a good

[2:48:55] job.

[2:48:56] Without spiritual guidance, I felt lost

[2:48:59] during my teenage years.

[2:49:02] I met Amma in my early 20s.

[2:49:06] Seeing Ayude youth expressing their

[2:49:09] talents with a sense of purpose and the

[2:49:12] desire to serve, I wondered why was I

[2:49:16] born in a non-spiritual family? Why did

[2:49:19] I lose so much time?

[2:49:23] Once someone told me there was no

[2:49:25] mistake because you are with Amma now

[2:49:29] everything happened in the exact right

[2:49:32] way.

[2:49:35] My wounds in a materialistic

[2:49:37] environment, my karma led me to search

[2:49:41] for deeper meaning, guiding me to amma.

[2:49:46] Looking back, your presence amma was

[2:49:49] always there, covered by layers of

[2:49:52] vasanas.

[2:49:54] It took a long time, but now I clearly

[2:49:57] see what gave me, what God gave me

[2:49:59] through my parents, the love for nature

[2:50:02] from my father, the love for music for

[2:50:05] my mother.

[2:50:07] They both did their best with their own

[2:50:10] difficult childhoods.

[2:50:14] Thanks to Amma's presence in my life

[2:50:16] now, I carry fewer expectations towards

[2:50:18] my birth family and I can connect with

[2:50:21] them peacefully, even if it's not very

[2:50:24] often.

[2:50:27] I no longer see karma as a punishment,

[2:50:30] but as an opportunity to grow and refine

[2:50:33] ourselves.

[2:51:07] When will I re when will I realize that

[2:51:09] you and You alone are everything that

[2:51:13] exists.

[2:51:14] When will I gain the secret vision to

[2:51:17] behold this entire creation as you?

[2:51:22] Reveal it to me. Oh goddess also

[2:51:25] pregnant of the universe.

[2:51:29] Amma may I see everyone as your darling

[2:51:33] child.

[2:51:35] Amma, may I always feel your divine hand

[2:51:38] guiding each step.

[2:51:42] If I need to go through difficult karma,

[2:51:45] may it bring me closer to you and never

[2:51:50] let me go astray again.

[2:51:56] Keep us near to you always. Offering

[2:51:58] these words at Amaz.

[2:52:09] Thank you.

[2:52:40] Foreign

[2:52:43] speech. Foreign speech. Foreign speech.

[2:53:05] Great child.

[2:53:15] forchech.

[2:53:55] for

[2:54:24] ache. for

[2:54:55] forchech.

[2:55:24] forchech.

[2:55:54] Foreign

[2:55:58] speech. Foreign speech. Foreign speech.

[2:56:48] for

[2:57:16] energy. forchech.

[2:57:47] forch.

[2:58:16] forchech.

[2:58:46] forchech.

[2:59:16] forchech.

[2:59:46] for

[3:00:14] forchech.

[3:00:44] Foreign

[3:00:52] speech. Foreign speech. Foreign speech.

[3:01:02] Understand?

[3:01:32] for

[3:02:01] forchech.

[3:02:31] for

[3:03:01] for

[3:03:28] omites in the maha.

[3:03:32] said she is very happy to hear

[3:03:36] our sister's

[3:03:38] account of her experiences and the way

[3:03:41] she developed her attitude in the right

[3:03:45] way to see things in a proper light.

[3:03:49] Amma says that

[3:03:53] she could bring Amit Amitni to this

[3:03:57] world and is praying that may Amritney

[3:04:01] be a role model you know helping the

[3:04:04] people in the world and also it's such a

[3:04:06] blessing to have a child who is so

[3:04:09] interested in spirituality at her young

[3:04:13] age and Nama says we need such such

[3:04:17] souls in in plenty to give the world the

[3:04:23] light of dharma and uh I is praying that

[3:04:27] may this interest in spirituality

[3:04:31] be there in all of you and uh may it

[3:04:34] grow leaps and bounds as you progress

[3:04:37] ahead

[3:04:39] I was mentioning that uh you had the

[3:04:43] innocent desire to be with tama to be in

[3:04:48] a spiritual atmosphere

[3:04:50] and uh when the desire is innocent and

[3:04:54] selfless then surely the universe has to

[3:04:58] find ways to fulfill it and so finally

[3:05:01] you could reach Amita Puri and you are

[3:05:03] now staying here with your daughter you

[3:05:07] mentioned about how difficult it was to

[3:05:10] see everything as God

[3:05:15] develop this kind of a vision right from

[3:05:17] the start it takes a while. First we may

[3:05:21] not have the strength to see everything

[3:05:24] as the divine. We will see a lot of

[3:05:26] imperfections in people. But as we grow

[3:05:30] in our spiritual pro in our or grow on

[3:05:33] the spiritual path then slowly we will

[3:05:36] be able to see God in everything. It is

[3:05:41] an advanced state and it may seem

[3:05:43] difficult initially but it is a state

[3:05:46] that we can surely reach through this

[3:05:49] through this path. I was narrating an

[3:05:52] anecdote to explain this point. Once uh

[3:05:56] Udhava

[3:05:58] set out from Matura to visit Vindavan he

[3:06:02] had heard a lot about the devotion of

[3:06:04] the gopies. So he he sought you know he

[3:06:08] sought Krishna's permission to go and

[3:06:11] meet the gopies. So as he entered

[3:06:14] Vindavan he did not know where the house

[3:06:17] of the of the lord was. So he saw two

[3:06:21] gopies there and he asked them as to

[3:06:28] can you tell me the directions to to

[3:06:30] Krishna's abboard

[3:06:32] and these gopies they looked at each

[3:06:35] other and started giggling they started

[3:06:38] giggling you know looking at each other

[3:06:40] and Udhava felt very bad he thought that

[3:06:44] they were mocking at him so he said you

[3:06:46] know I am a newcomer to this place and

[3:06:49] never been here before that's why I I

[3:06:51] was asking you you know where is the

[3:06:53] lord's abode I don't think you should be

[3:06:56] mocking me like this and the gopies

[3:06:58] replied they said you know forgive us we

[3:07:01] were not mocking you

[3:07:04] Sri Krishna the supreme lord is present

[3:07:08] in every single grain of sand in this

[3:07:11] reindav

[3:07:12] resides in every plant every flower in

[3:07:15] every blade of grass here he completely

[3:07:19] fills the entire atmosphere. He of

[3:07:22] course has a special place in the hearts

[3:07:24] of his devotees.

[3:07:27] It would be more accurate to ask where

[3:07:30] the lord is not present rather than

[3:07:33] asking where is the lord's abode or

[3:07:36] where is the lord present.

[3:07:38] It was hearing this question where is

[3:07:40] the lord's abboard in such a place that

[3:07:43] made us smile. Hearing this reply

[3:07:46] brimming with wisdom born from the

[3:07:49] innocent devotion of the gopies Udhava

[3:07:53] was left completely stunned and

[3:07:55] speechless. So Amma was mentioning that

[3:07:59] once you advance on this path then

[3:08:03] slowly you are able to see everything as

[3:08:07] the as the divine alone. It's not easy

[3:08:10] straight away. It takes time but one can

[3:08:13] slowly reach there.

[3:08:15] says that you mentioned that at least uh

[3:08:20] you put an effort to see your husband as

[3:08:22] God uh at least one person as God. It's

[3:08:26] a it's a good start. I must says that

[3:08:29] even that is difficult but at least it's

[3:08:31] a good start because we don't see the

[3:08:35] other as divine that easily because all

[3:08:38] our past experiences our perceptions our

[3:08:42] bringing up our culture everything comes

[3:08:44] on the way of seeing the other person.

[3:08:47] So when we see a person it is through

[3:08:50] all these colored glasses of our past

[3:08:53] experiences and perceptions and uh

[3:08:56] preconceived notions. So it is not easy

[3:08:59] for us to see divinity in a person that

[3:09:03] easily. But at the same time says when

[3:09:06] we learn spirituality we understand that

[3:09:08] there is a divine there is divinity in

[3:09:11] each and every person. Even the most

[3:09:14] dreaded criminal or terrorist says there

[3:09:18] is divinity because when such a person

[3:09:21] who might have killed say 10 people when

[3:09:24] such a person sees his own child there

[3:09:27] is a spark of compassion of love and

[3:09:30] compassion that that arises within that

[3:09:32] sometimes can be seen in the eyes of the

[3:09:35] person. So even in such a dreaded

[3:09:37] criminal you will find some spark of

[3:09:41] goodness. uh says uh remember who

[3:09:43] Walmiki was well the great Rishi Walmiki

[3:09:46] who authored the Ramayana he was a

[3:09:48] highway robber before he became such a

[3:09:51] great rishi and when he met the seven

[3:09:54] sages the sapar rishies they accepted

[3:09:57] him without looking into his past and it

[3:10:00] was that acceptance that completely

[3:10:03] changed Walmiki and made him this great

[3:10:06] rishi so amma says that even such a

[3:10:10] person could rise up to such an elev

[3:10:13] such an elevated state. So we all have

[3:10:16] the potential within. We just need to

[3:10:19] realize it. We just need to be aware of

[3:10:22] it. Gives the example if you have 100

[3:10:25] pots of water kept in sunlight. You see

[3:10:27] the reflection of the sun in each and

[3:10:29] every pot that does not mean that there

[3:10:32] are 100 suns. The sun is only one. In a

[3:10:35] similar way, there is only one self that

[3:10:37] is there in each and every being in the

[3:10:40] whole of creation. Just like when our

[3:10:43] left hand is in pain, the right hand

[3:10:45] goes over to caress it. Knowing that the

[3:10:48] left and right are a part of the one.

[3:10:50] Just like when our finger pokes the eye,

[3:10:53] we don't punish the finger. We use the

[3:10:55] same finger to rub the eye knowing that

[3:10:58] the finger and the eye are a part of the

[3:11:00] one. When you see that oneness in

[3:11:02] everything then you will be able to to

[3:11:05] love the whole of creation. Says the

[3:11:10] knowledge of the scriptures they help us

[3:11:12] lot to develop this vision of oneness.

[3:11:17] Initially it is difficult but as we grow

[3:11:21] in knowledge it is possible to develop

[3:11:24] this vision. Initially we may not be

[3:11:26] able to love everybody but Tama says at

[3:11:29] least let us try not to be angry at

[3:11:32] anybody that's that itself is a very

[3:11:34] good start. We may not have been brought

[3:11:38] up that way of uh you know being in a we

[3:11:41] may not have been in a spiritual

[3:11:43] atmosphere when we were young. The way

[3:11:45] may the parents brought us up may not be

[3:11:48] in a very congenial atmosphere. So all

[3:11:51] this has an effect and it takes a while

[3:11:54] to really come out of all these these

[3:11:58] preconditionings

[3:11:59] and to be able to see divinity in

[3:12:02] everything. Abama says that as we learn

[3:12:05] the scriptures we learn that this human

[3:12:08] life needs to be used for a higher goal.

[3:12:10] If this human birth is just used for

[3:12:14] eating, drinking, sleeping and

[3:12:16] procreating, there is no difference

[3:12:18] between an earthworm and a human being.

[3:12:21] An earthworm also does all these

[3:12:24] functions. But at the same time, the

[3:12:26] earthworm it does not it does not

[3:12:29] destroy nature in any way. Amma says uh

[3:12:33] it adds to the fertility of the soil.

[3:12:35] But we human beings we keep taking from

[3:12:38] nature all the time and even after death

[3:12:41] we cause some or the other harm to

[3:12:43] nature. When the body is cremated there

[3:12:46] are greenhouse emissions being added. I

[3:12:48] must say when the body is buried again a

[3:12:50] lot of chemicals are added that that

[3:12:53] pollutes the earth. So in one way or the

[3:12:56] other we keep taking from the world we

[3:13:00] keep uh adding to the to the

[3:13:03] destruction. So we need to use this life

[3:13:06] for a higher purpose. Just like a turtle

[3:13:10] moving on the sands leaves a mark

[3:13:12] behind, we are expected to leave a mark

[3:13:15] behind that will inspire the coming

[3:13:17] generations. So we need to use our life

[3:13:21] in a way that we'll be able to reach a

[3:13:24] higher goal that will be beneficial for

[3:13:26] us and to society as well. Amma says

[3:13:29] that let us try to bring in the

[3:13:32] synthesis of all the three parts of bi

[3:13:35] of selfless service and knowledge. Just

[3:13:38] like a bird needs two wings and a tail

[3:13:41] to fly. M says for us to soar in the

[3:13:44] spiritual sky one of the wing has to be

[3:13:46] devotion the other wing has to be

[3:13:48] selfless service and the tail has to be

[3:13:52] has to be knowledge. Amma says if we

[3:13:56] don't have the right purity

[3:13:58] and we do our spiritual practices it

[3:14:01] will not take us ahead. People may do

[3:14:03] tapas but at the same time all the

[3:14:05] energy that they conserve may be

[3:14:08] dissipated by getting angry at others. M

[3:14:11] says it is of no use when we allow all

[3:14:15] this energy to be dissipated through all

[3:14:17] these negative emotions. We need to

[3:14:20] follow the path of moderation. Amma says

[3:14:23] we need to be moderate in our speech, in

[3:14:25] our food, in all the sensory indulgence

[3:14:28] that will slowly help us to conserve the

[3:14:31] energy and take us ahead. When we do

[3:14:34] sava again, it should be with the right

[3:14:37] attitude. Amma says that otherwise it

[3:14:39] just remains an action. It doesn't

[3:14:42] become real sava. It it needs to be done

[3:14:46] with the with the understanding that I

[3:14:48] am doing this action with the power of

[3:14:52] the supreme alone for my hands to move

[3:14:55] there is a power acting behind it which

[3:14:57] is which is making things happen. If

[3:14:59] that power stops acting I will not be

[3:15:02] able to do it. Gives the example when we

[3:15:04] yawn there is a power acting behind that

[3:15:07] action that makes our mouth open. If

[3:15:09] that power stops acting then the mouth

[3:15:12] will remain open. It will not close. So

[3:15:15] we need to understand that there is a

[3:15:17] power acting behind all our actions. So

[3:15:20] sava should be done with proper

[3:15:23] awareness otherwise it just remains an

[3:15:25] action. I was narrating an anecdote to

[3:15:28] explain this point.

[3:15:30] There was a a hermitage where a master

[3:15:33] was teaching shastra scriptures to the

[3:15:36] disciples. Once a disciple went to the

[3:15:38] master and said, "Oh master, I have made

[3:15:41] a big mistake and I am ready to accept

[3:15:44] any punishment for the mistake that I

[3:15:46] have committed." The master called all

[3:15:49] the other disciples and said that you

[3:15:51] know this person has committed a a

[3:15:54] mistake and he is ready to accept any

[3:15:56] punishment but I'm not going to decide

[3:15:58] what punishment I should give him. you

[3:16:01] know maybe we should you know discuss

[3:16:03] and decide what should be the punishment

[3:16:05] that we give this person. So at first

[3:16:09] the cook he raised his hand and said

[3:16:11] master you should make him chop

[3:16:14] vegetables for every meal for the rest

[3:16:17] of the year. The disciple who worked in

[3:16:21] the garden and he said no no no way you

[3:16:24] should make him weed the garden water

[3:16:26] the plants for the rest of the year. The

[3:16:29] one who worked in the cow shed say no

[3:16:31] that's not the right thing. Let him

[3:16:33] shovel cowunk for the rest of the year.

[3:16:35] Then he will understand. The person who

[3:16:38] gives the tokens he said no way. Let him

[3:16:41] give token all the time. He will

[3:16:44] understand how strenuous that job is.

[3:16:47] The person at the accommodation say no

[3:16:49] let him sit there. Then he will hear

[3:16:52] complaints from everybody. He will

[3:16:54] understand how difficult the job is. So

[3:16:57] hearing all these ideas from the

[3:17:00] disciples, the master was smiling. And

[3:17:04] after they all finished, the master

[3:17:06] said,

[3:17:08] "Have you realized that all these

[3:17:10] punishments that each one of you came up

[3:17:13] with are actually your own ashram sava?"

[3:17:18] So this is the way that you see your

[3:17:20] sava. You see it as a punishment. So

[3:17:24] this is the attitude that is preventing

[3:17:26] your actions from becoming karma yoga.

[3:17:29] If you were able to see your chores as

[3:17:32] worship, it would lead you straight to

[3:17:34] God. So says even when we do our sava,

[3:17:39] it has to be done with the right

[3:17:41] attitude because otherwise it remains a

[3:17:45] mere action. says when an action is done

[3:17:47] with an aspect of of surrender or as an

[3:17:51] offering that whatever be the action it

[3:17:53] turns into a puja says even cleaning the

[3:17:56] drain can become a puja to the lord if

[3:17:59] that cleaning is done with the right

[3:18:01] attitude at the same time one may be

[3:18:04] doing worship but if the attitude is not

[3:18:06] right it just remains an action says

[3:18:09] that through puja through all the

[3:18:11] practices that we do what we are

[3:18:14] achieving is the purity of mind. Amma

[3:18:17] says it's the antakarni that is being

[3:18:20] achieved if you do it with the right

[3:18:22] attitude. Ama says when we do our

[3:18:25] prayers, our worship, it should not be

[3:18:27] with the attitude that I am giving God

[3:18:29] something. Says God doesn't need

[3:18:32] anything from us. He's the giver of

[3:18:34] everything. Says he is even the strength

[3:18:37] behind our offerings. We forget that. So

[3:18:41] all this is being done for the for our

[3:18:45] own good for our own purification. We

[3:18:48] should be aware of that otherwise we are

[3:18:51] not going anywhere. So I was mentioning

[3:18:55] the importance of having this awareness

[3:18:58] when we do our practices. If we can keep

[3:19:02] up this awareness then slowly we arise

[3:19:05] into the into the realm of goodness

[3:19:08] where we see everything as as good as

[3:19:12] things that help us to move ahead. So

[3:19:15] Amma was uh to make this point clear

[3:19:19] Amma was narrating another anecdote to

[3:19:22] explain this point. uh in a master's

[3:19:25] ashram there were several disciples you

[3:19:28] know who were very devoted to spiritual

[3:19:31] practice and the master trained them

[3:19:34] thoroughly along the path of sacrifice

[3:19:37] and austerity and as they would attain

[3:19:40] spiritual maturity he would send them

[3:19:42] out to the world

[3:19:45] eventually the master found that one

[3:19:47] disciple was ready he was mature enough

[3:19:49] so the day of departure arrived for this

[3:19:52] disciple to leave. So the disciple came

[3:19:55] and bowed down in front of the master

[3:19:57] asking for the master's grace. And uh

[3:20:00] the master blessed the disciple and

[3:20:02] said, "My son, set out joyfully on your

[3:20:05] mission to serve the world. May you

[3:20:08] always dwell in palaces and mansions.

[3:20:11] May you always be blessed with delicious

[3:20:14] food. And may you always get to sleep on

[3:20:18] a soft bed of flowers."

[3:20:21] Now hearing these words of blessing, the

[3:20:24] disciple was a bit astonished. He said

[3:20:26] to the master, "Master, all these years

[3:20:29] you taught us the virtue of renunciation

[3:20:32] today as I step out in the world, why

[3:20:35] are you blessing me like this? Aren't

[3:20:37] living in palaces, eating delicacies

[3:20:40] every day, and sleeping on beds of

[3:20:42] flowers completely contrary to spiritual

[3:20:45] life?" Hearing

[3:20:47] his question, the guru smiled and

[3:20:49] replied, "My child, think about it

[3:20:52] deeply. The true meaning of my words is

[3:20:54] that you should advance further along

[3:20:58] the path of sacrifice." Let me explain.

[3:21:01] During your service to the world, the

[3:21:04] places you find shelter may often lack

[3:21:06] even basic comforts. At times, you may

[3:21:09] have to sleep on the roadside or the

[3:21:11] veranda of a shop. But if your attitude

[3:21:14] is positive and adaptable, you will

[3:21:16] gladly embrace those modest conditions.

[3:21:20] Staying in such places will feel to you

[3:21:22] like you are living in a palace.

[3:21:25] Furthermore, eat only when you are truly

[3:21:27] hungry. Then whatever food you receive

[3:21:30] will taste utterly delicious. Sleep only

[3:21:34] when you are genuinely exhausted. If so,

[3:21:38] wherever you lie down, even on a bare

[3:21:40] rock, you will enjoy deep sound sleep.

[3:21:43] That is what I meant when I wish that

[3:21:46] you always sleep on a bed of flowers.

[3:21:50] Grasping the profound vision, the the

[3:21:52] profound wisdom hidden in within the

[3:21:54] guru's words, the disciples set forth

[3:21:57] with great devotion onto the path of

[3:21:59] selfless service. So Amma is saying that

[3:22:02] we all have experienced it during the

[3:22:05] North India tour you know or during the

[3:22:07] different tours that we have gone with

[3:22:09] when you are so tired you don't realize

[3:22:11] where you you know you laid down to

[3:22:13] sleep it next morning you may realize oh

[3:22:16] it was the bathroom so we just we just

[3:22:19] sleep wherever you you get the space

[3:22:21] because you are so tired even that

[3:22:23] bathroom feels like a palace of course

[3:22:25] to reach there it will take time but Ama

[3:22:28] says that we have to you know have the

[3:22:31] right attitude to grow. Ma says for a

[3:22:33] sapling to grow and give shade, it needs

[3:22:37] time. It cannot give shade when it's a

[3:22:39] sapling. It has to grow. It has to

[3:22:41] become a tree. Then only can it give us

[3:22:44] give us shade. So we need to be ready to

[3:22:48] undergo the process. Ama says this

[3:22:51] readiness or this surrender is like

[3:22:54] bleaching powder that will remove all

[3:22:57] the stains of selfishness from within

[3:23:00] and make us perfect. M says when we

[3:23:02] interact with people at times there will

[3:23:05] be negativities that come up but we need

[3:23:07] to understand that they are all mirrors

[3:23:10] showing us our imperfections. When

[3:23:12] somebody is angry at you, there is a

[3:23:14] lesson in it that when I am angry

[3:23:17] towards others, they are going to feel

[3:23:19] the same. When somebody shows love to

[3:23:21] you and you feel so happy, there is a

[3:23:24] lesson in it. When you show love towards

[3:23:26] others, they are feeling the same.

[3:23:29] Sometimes we think showing anger is a

[3:23:31] great show of strength. They may the

[3:23:33] other person who is at the receiving end

[3:23:35] may keep quiet, but inside that person

[3:23:38] we have really fallen down in their

[3:23:40] eyes. That person is really laughing

[3:23:42] within seeing our imperfections. So let

[3:23:45] us be ready to see ourselves clearly and

[3:23:49] move forward. Says let us be ready to

[3:23:51] embrace all the mess within. Ma says one

[3:23:54] who cannot cross a small pond can never

[3:23:57] cross the ocean. So in a similar way we

[3:24:01] need to have the readiness to work on

[3:24:03] these negativities on these uh

[3:24:06] conditioning so that we can finally

[3:24:09] reach that state where we know who we

[3:24:12] are in reality.

[3:25:38] Little kitty tail.

[3:25:43] Little kitty.

[3:26:27] They could get

[3:26:38] a little

[3:26:50] good job.

[3:26:53] Let your baby

[4:10:33] Mother

[4:10:54] and

[4:10:56] God

[4:11:05] for

[4:11:11] me.

[4:11:26] Oh Mother.

[4:11:56] In the moon,

[4:12:02] She

[4:12:15] in the

[4:12:20] she

[4:12:29] was she was she She might

[4:12:42] I see.

[4:12:46] She

[4:12:59] hy

[4:13:04] in the moon. She

[4:13:09] higher.

[4:13:13] She

[4:13:19] mighty.

[4:13:25] H.

[4:13:27] She

[4:13:33] might

[4:13:55] hurry. I might

[4:14:08] She

[4:14:12] might

[4:14:39] How much she

[4:15:09] God

[4:15:16] amnesur.

[4:15:37] I bow down to Amma without whom life

[4:15:40] would be completely meaningless.

[4:15:43] My greetings to Amma's children

[4:15:46] everywhere.

[4:15:49] I grew up in a mansion in the heart of

[4:15:52] the land of the bogeies, Los Angeles,

[4:15:55] California, USA. One of the most

[4:15:57] materialistic places on the planet.

[4:16:01] I never imagined I would I would still

[4:16:03] be here living in the ashram after 20

[4:16:06] years. It's only because of infinite

[4:16:10] compassion and the samscaras of my

[4:16:12] parents that I sit here before you.

[4:16:17] Although I grew up in the land of the

[4:16:19] bogeies, those who enjoy material

[4:16:22] pleasures, paradoxically, I had very

[4:16:25] spiritual parents.

[4:16:27] They're both gone now, but their values

[4:16:30] and spiritual lessons left a deep

[4:16:32] impression on me.

[4:16:34] They had deep faith in their guru, a

[4:16:38] spiritual guide from the Sufi tradition.

[4:16:41] From a young age, I saw my parents

[4:16:44] always giving, giving shelter, food,

[4:16:48] emotional support, and spiritual advice

[4:16:51] to members of the community.

[4:16:54] I remember my mother often cooking food

[4:16:56] for less fortunate families and taking

[4:16:59] us with her to their homes, which were

[4:17:02] often small, cramped apartments.

[4:17:06] I was very lucky. My parents gave me the

[4:17:10] values Emma talks about so often.

[4:17:13] Even though they could give me anything

[4:17:15] I wanted, they didn't.

[4:17:18] My parents gave me what I needed. And if

[4:17:21] I wanted more, I had to work for it. So,

[4:17:24] I did. And I learned so much from those

[4:17:27] work experiences early in my life.

[4:17:31] My parents also gave me ample freedom

[4:17:33] and opportunities to grow and learn.

[4:17:37] I was not restricted like some of my

[4:17:39] friends. If I wanted to go out on a

[4:17:42] Saturday night, I would ask and they

[4:17:45] would usually give me permission along

[4:17:47] with the curfew. Time to be back home.

[4:17:51] My friends, on the other hand, had to

[4:17:53] climb out of the windows of their homes

[4:17:55] to get out.

[4:17:59] Although I grew up with a guru and

[4:18:01] decent values, I never imagined that I

[4:18:03] was fit or qualified for spiritual life.

[4:18:07] When I met Uma, I was lost and confused.

[4:18:11] But somehow Uma saw something in me. The

[4:18:14] deep spiritual samscaras that I didn't

[4:18:16] even realize were there. And she

[4:18:19] skillfully caught hold of me and has

[4:18:21] kept me near her for so many years.

[4:18:24] I have no idea what I did to deserve

[4:18:28] this grace. So many times I have wanted

[4:18:31] to run away.

[4:18:35] Um talks about three types of disciples.

[4:18:38] The kitten, monkey, and eagle. The

[4:18:42] kitten is gently held by the mother by

[4:18:44] the neck because she knows if she

[4:18:47] doesn't do that, the little kitten will

[4:18:49] run away and hurt herself. The monkey

[4:18:52] has such an attachment to the mother

[4:18:54] that it won't let go of her. And the

[4:18:57] baby eagle stays in the nest,

[4:18:59] comfortably waiting until one day the

[4:19:02] mother pushes her out.

[4:19:05] I always thought of myself as the eagle

[4:19:08] but I'm definitely a kitten.

[4:19:13] In our scripture class, Brahmachari Atma

[4:19:16] Praash GI says that you need a satguru

[4:19:19] to transform yourself to become fit for

[4:19:22] realization.

[4:19:23] And in this Kali Yuga, it is only by her

[4:19:26] grace that she catches us and holds us

[4:19:30] long enough to make some change.

[4:19:33] I can see it in myself.

[4:19:36] When I met Emma, I had everything

[4:19:38] material. A nice house, a car, a good

[4:19:42] job. But I was not very happy.

[4:19:45] I had a group of friends from the

[4:19:47] Paramahansa Yoga Nanda tradition with

[4:19:50] whom I would do yoga, meditation,

[4:19:53] budgeons. But I knew I still had not

[4:19:56] found my true home.

[4:19:59] I thought that true home was with a

[4:20:01] partner. But none of those relationships

[4:20:03] gave me the thing I was searching for

[4:20:06] until I met Uma. From my first Dan until

[4:20:11] now, the relationship with Uma has been

[4:20:14] full, complete, and yet constantly a

[4:20:17] mystery.

[4:20:19] I knew right after my first darian in

[4:20:22] the temple in San Ramon that Ama was a

[4:20:25] satguru, a real guru who knows the truth

[4:20:28] of everything.

[4:20:31] Amma slowly extricated me from that land

[4:20:34] of bogis and brought me here to the land

[4:20:37] of yogis.

[4:20:39] This blessed and sacred land of

[4:20:41] Armatapuri where Amma was born and still

[4:20:44] lives with all of her thousands of

[4:20:46] children.

[4:20:48] It's still so unbelievable to me how she

[4:20:52] knows each and every one of us so well

[4:20:55] and what we need physically,

[4:20:57] emotionally, and spiritually.

[4:21:00] She wants to take all of her children to

[4:21:03] that place of pure love and unending

[4:21:06] bliss where she resides.

[4:21:09] And in order to do that, Uma first needs

[4:21:12] to purify us.

[4:21:14] We don't even realize when we meet Amma

[4:21:16] that we need purification.

[4:21:21] One time in London during Amma's program

[4:21:24] at Alexandra Palace, I was at the Prasad

[4:21:27] table where we sell offerings for Amma,

[4:21:31] my regular tour sava.

[4:21:33] Someone had brought these beautiful

[4:21:35] jasmine garlands for Amma. They smelled

[4:21:39] so good. You didn't even have to touch

[4:21:41] them. You could smell them from far

[4:21:44] away.

[4:21:46] But almost everyone who came to the

[4:21:48] table would not only touch the malas,

[4:21:52] but then pick them up and put their nose

[4:21:54] right into the mala. I was horrified.

[4:22:00] First, I would try to tell them

[4:22:02] politely, they're form, thinking the

[4:22:04] person would understand, but that never

[4:22:07] worked. I was at a loss for what to do

[4:22:10] and went to Emma during the program.

[4:22:14] She was so sweet and said the most

[4:22:17] profound thing that I have never

[4:22:19] forgotten.

[4:22:20] What is the point of having a pure mala

[4:22:23] when we are full of dirt inside?

[4:22:28] I didn't understand what meant at that

[4:22:30] time. But now after living in the ashram

[4:22:34] and listening to Amma's nectarine words

[4:22:37] for so many years, I finally understand.

[4:22:42] The dirt inside of us is the feeling of

[4:22:44] me, I, mine, the egocentric notions.

[4:22:50] We are actually embodiment of pure love

[4:22:53] and the supreme consciousness, but we

[4:22:56] don't realize it.

[4:22:58] Um tries to awaken us to this truth

[4:23:01] every time she enters a hall and starts

[4:23:03] a satsang by saying I bow down to all my

[4:23:07] children who are embodiment of pure love

[4:23:10] and the supreme consciousness.

[4:23:13] The first time I heard a say this I

[4:23:15] thought who me? No.

[4:23:19] The love we are all seeking outside of

[4:23:21] ourselves is actually within each and

[4:23:24] every one of us.

[4:23:27] Um's purification process is like

[4:23:29] peeling an onion.

[4:23:32] First, she starts on a physical level,

[4:23:35] carefully removing the gross external

[4:23:38] dirt.

[4:23:39] You find yourself facing various types

[4:23:41] of physical challenges such as a leaky

[4:23:44] roof, challenging roommates, noisy

[4:23:47] neighbors, a broken leg.

[4:23:51] You are then confronted with a choice to

[4:23:54] accept the situation and adjust or

[4:23:57] complain and make a bad situation worse.

[4:24:01] Until you gain some patience and

[4:24:04] understanding, the challenges keep

[4:24:06] coming.

[4:24:08] It's the physical purification.

[4:24:11] After some time, this passes and the

[4:24:13] purification gets more and more subtle.

[4:24:17] In retrospect, I can see this

[4:24:19] transformation very clearly with Archa.

[4:24:23] In my early days in the ashram, I would

[4:24:26] get up and go to Archa and almost always

[4:24:30] fall asleep somewhere in the middle of

[4:24:32] the archum.

[4:24:34] At some point, I would wake up and get

[4:24:36] through the end of it, but then I would

[4:24:39] head right back to my bed and sleep.

[4:24:43] I needed a lot more physical stuff in

[4:24:46] those days. Food, friends, sleep,

[4:24:49] material support.

[4:24:52] Now I am at my peak if I sleep 4 to 5

[4:24:55] hours. I love going to Archa and

[4:24:58] sleeping after is not even something

[4:25:00] that crosses my mind.

[4:25:02] I am not able to go every day. But when

[4:25:05] I do go, everything feels so much

[4:25:08] better. both on a gross and subtle level

[4:25:11] I can't even understand.

[4:25:14] Once the purification on the physical

[4:25:17] level was sufficient, Amma started

[4:25:19] working on my subtle vas.

[4:25:22] I remember when I came to the ashram, I

[4:25:24] thought I'm done with relationships.

[4:25:28] But then after living in the ashram for

[4:25:30] a few years, Amma created situations to

[4:25:33] show me how much lust was still left

[4:25:36] inside of me. It scared me because I

[4:25:39] thought it was gone. At first, I didn't

[4:25:42] know what to do, how to respond. I was

[4:25:45] really scared because it's such a strong

[4:25:48] basa.

[4:25:50] One can get pulled in that direction so

[4:25:52] easily.

[4:25:54] Then I started to pray intensely to

[4:25:56] please take this away and that is what

[4:25:59] really helped me. But every time I

[4:26:02] thought the vasa was gone and I got

[4:26:04] relaxed and comfortable, amma would show

[4:26:07] me that I was still very much there if

[4:26:10] triggered and I would again go through

[4:26:12] some serious inner turmoil.

[4:26:16] But as soon as I reached the stage

[4:26:18] praying to please help me come out of

[4:26:20] this in her infinite compassion, she

[4:26:23] would help me.

[4:26:25] Now I know the vasana is there but has

[4:26:28] her thumb on it and that gives me the

[4:26:31] confidence to move on.

[4:26:34] You may wonder what's the big deal with

[4:26:36] a little lust.

[4:26:38] But these bas

[4:26:41] real goal the realization of the self

[4:26:45] which is way beyond body mind and

[4:26:48] intellect.

[4:26:50] We need to reach a stage where we drop

[4:26:52] identification with the body, mind, and

[4:26:55] intellect.

[4:26:56] Okay, I'm definitely not there, but I

[4:27:00] know what Emma is doing. And with her

[4:27:02] infinite grace and compassion, each day

[4:27:05] I feel I come a little closer.

[4:27:10] Emma has done the real work within me

[4:27:12] with SA karma yoga. It's such an immense

[4:27:16] battle. Sometimes we are told to do our

[4:27:19] sava with puja manobavam a worshipful

[4:27:22] attitude and accept the results with

[4:27:25] prasada buddhi receiving them as a gift

[4:27:28] from god

[4:27:30] but we all know how difficult that is

[4:27:33] you go to veggie chopping and you're

[4:27:35] happily chopping the veggies and

[4:27:37] chanting your mantra thinking how

[4:27:39] amazing and divine you are and then the

[4:27:42] supervisor comes and tells you it's all

[4:27:44] wrong.

[4:27:46] How do you react? How do you feel? Do

[4:27:49] you think, "What's wrong with this

[4:27:50] person? They're vegetables. They all

[4:27:52] come out the same way. What does it

[4:27:54] matter?" Blah, blah, blah. Or do you

[4:27:57] feel, "Oh, thank you for showing me. I

[4:28:00] really want to do this sava properly and

[4:28:02] for the devotees to be able to enjoy and

[4:28:05] digest the food." This is a small simple

[4:28:09] example, but we all experience this

[4:28:11] every day.

[4:28:14] If you can watch your reactions, see how

[4:28:17] you are reacting internally and then

[4:28:20] control the reaction, that is a huge

[4:28:22] victory.

[4:28:24] You may still react internally, but

[4:28:27] externally you have exerted a level of

[4:28:30] control that you didn't think you had

[4:28:33] and slowly over time the internal

[4:28:36] reaction subsides because you are able

[4:28:39] to nip it in the bud.

[4:28:41] Amma's I am integrated Amita meditation

[4:28:45] technique has really helped me in this

[4:28:47] respect. The whole practice is about

[4:28:50] watching yourself first externally and

[4:28:54] then internally.

[4:28:56] The whole practice puts you in Sakshi

[4:28:58] Baba which is your true self, your true

[4:29:02] home as the witness, not as the doer.

[4:29:06] After many years of this practice, you

[4:29:09] find yourself watching your reactions,

[4:29:12] your words and thoughts all the time.

[4:29:16] And then once you see the negativities,

[4:29:19] you can start not only to control them

[4:29:22] but transform the negativities.

[4:29:25] You see yourself getting angry and then

[4:29:27] you ask yourself why am I getting angry?

[4:29:30] Who is getting angry with whom?

[4:29:34] And that reflection helps you to control

[4:29:36] the anger and transform it into humor,

[4:29:40] love and compassion.

[4:29:42] You are able to see the lesson Uma is

[4:29:45] trying to show you through that person,

[4:29:47] the veggie supervisor.

[4:29:51] As Uma continues to peel the onion, the

[4:29:54] most difficult part is when she starts

[4:29:57] to work on the subtle aspects of our

[4:29:59] mind. For so long, we have believed that

[4:30:03] the mind is real and our true guide.

[4:30:07] Amma has some proven techniques to tear

[4:30:09] apart this belief.

[4:30:11] Sometimes she will give us specific

[4:30:14] instructions and we will start following

[4:30:16] those instructions. But then later Emma

[4:30:19] will ask, "Who told you to do that?"

[4:30:22] Immediately we begin to question

[4:30:24] ourselves. Did I misunderstand Emma? I'm

[4:30:27] sure told me to do this. or we will

[4:30:30] start to question. Why is doing this to

[4:30:33] me? Our mind begins to go on a roller

[4:30:37] coaster ride.

[4:30:39] We become confused and perplexed.

[4:30:44] If we are able to hold on to during the

[4:30:47] roller coaster ride, we realize that Uma

[4:30:50] is trying to loosen the grip of the mind

[4:30:52] on us from the very root.

[4:30:55] We have trusted the mind for so many

[4:30:57] years without question. But now we begin

[4:31:01] to see that it is the mind that has been

[4:31:03] covering our real identity

[4:31:06] as the supreme consciousness.

[4:31:09] We are not the small identity

[4:31:11] personality the mind has led us to

[4:31:13] believe.

[4:31:15] If we want to realize who we really are,

[4:31:18] we need to let go of who we think we

[4:31:21] are. As Uma says, everything is created

[4:31:25] by God except our egos. And we are

[4:31:29] holding on to the ego so closely, we

[4:31:32] can't even loosen our grip a little.

[4:31:36] We are not individual personalities. We

[4:31:39] are expressions of the divine which

[4:31:42] operates within us every single moment.

[4:31:46] Nothing belongs to this small identity.

[4:31:49] Not even our name which somebody gave to

[4:31:52] us.

[4:31:55] Dropping the identification with this

[4:31:57] individuality is extremely difficult and

[4:32:00] I would say impossible with a sguru

[4:32:03] without a sguru like amma. Our minds can

[4:32:07] so easily fool us. We need amma to guide

[4:32:11] us and show us the way and she is doing

[4:32:14] that every single moment.

[4:32:18] We just need to observe, listen, and

[4:32:21] reflect on each of Amma's words and

[4:32:23] teachings to figure out the course. It's

[4:32:26] like a board game. You get clues along

[4:32:29] the way, but you need to decide which

[4:32:32] path to take to win, which for us is

[4:32:35] reaching the goal.

[4:32:37] Amma is a perfect master. She will give

[4:32:40] us hints, pointers, but we need to do

[4:32:43] the work using the tools of shravenam,

[4:32:46] mananum and nidity.

[4:32:49] Listening, reflection and assimilation.

[4:32:53] The scriptures tell us this is the path

[4:32:56] to realization.

[4:32:58] Every day we need to listen to satsang,

[4:33:01] reflect on what we have heard and

[4:33:03] contemplate the words of our beloved

[4:33:05] guru if we want to realize that we are

[4:33:08] embodiment of pure love and the supreme

[4:33:11] consciousness and not these limited

[4:33:14] individual personalities.

[4:33:17] Praying to help each and every one of us

[4:33:20] on this sacred journey.

[4:33:23] Omaha.

[4:34:52] Oh my

[4:35:18] Neither.

[6:59:18] Sweet.

[6:59:36] Ying

[6:59:51] glory. Those

[7:00:20] the

[7:00:23] Every nighting

[7:00:26] every nighting

[7:00:55] Open your kitchens

[7:01:10] to my divine lotus feet and to all her

[7:01:14] daring children

[7:01:16] to keep up with my yearly Krishna Jan

[7:01:19] Mashti tradition. This year again I fell

[7:01:22] sick with a viral infection and fever

[7:01:25] that kept you inside for more than a

[7:01:27] week. I was so sad and prayed to my

[7:01:30] mother to let me go for the celebrations

[7:01:33] but the doctor said it might be

[7:01:35] contagious. So it was not recommended to

[7:01:37] be near other children. But the good

[7:01:40] thing is that during this time we could

[7:01:42] finish a whole book about Lord Hanman's

[7:01:45] extraordinary life. The book is full of

[7:01:48] wonderful stories and today I would like

[7:01:51] to speak about one story in particular.

[7:01:54] This story was first told by sage

[7:01:56] Balmiki in the Sundarakanda chapter of

[7:01:59] the Raayana.

[7:02:01] In this chapter when Hanumanji took his

[7:02:03] great leap to Lanka in order to find

[7:02:06] Sitha Devi he met with three obstacles

[7:02:09] Mount Maka Surasa and Simhika. While the

[7:02:13] last two obstacles were horrible

[7:02:15] frightening raases that tried to devour

[7:02:18] and stop Hanumanji. The same can be said

[7:02:21] about Ma Manaka who was actually a

[7:02:24] friend a devotey of the Lord. He

[7:02:27] actually owned the great depth to

[7:02:29] Hanji's father Vayu Deva who in the past

[7:02:33] have saved him from Lord Indra's fury.

[7:02:36] He sincerely wanted to show his

[7:02:38] gratitude and help Hanumanji by offering

[7:02:41] him a place to rest and regain strength

[7:02:44] for his difficult journey ahead. But

[7:02:47] Hanumanji explaining the urgency of his

[7:02:49] mission politely denied the offer. Then

[7:02:52] you might ask why was Ma Manaka called

[7:02:55] an obstacle and why did Hanumanji refuse

[7:02:58] his offer? We can find the answer to

[7:03:01] this question in the in the Bhagavad

[7:03:03] Gita chapter 2 Shloka 67.

[7:03:16] Here Sri Krishna warns Ajuna Dash how a

[7:03:20] powerful wind sweeps away a boat from

[7:03:22] its course. Even a single uncontrolled

[7:03:25] sense Indria can carry away our

[7:03:28] intelligence and not allow us to reach

[7:03:30] our goal. Even in our daily lives, the

[7:03:34] biggest

[7:03:36] the big

[7:03:39] the biggest obstacles do not necessarily

[7:03:42] come in the form of ugly monsters or

[7:03:44] powerful rashas. They are usually

[7:03:47] disguised as innocent distractions and

[7:03:49] what looks like harmless desires.

[7:03:52] Just 10 more minutes of play after

[7:03:55] budgeons that turns into 1 hour and then

[7:03:58] again I go to sleep late and can't wake

[7:04:00] up the next day. Just five more minutes

[7:04:03] of sleep in the morning that turns into

[7:04:06] half an hour and then again I'm late for

[7:04:08] class. Just one more chocolate that

[7:04:11] turns into a sweet every day and then

[7:04:13] into another cavity.

[7:04:17] But unlike me, Hanumanji was very wise

[7:04:20] and knew all this. So he didn't allow

[7:04:23] himself to be tempted by the sweet

[7:04:25] fruits or fresh waters found on Mount

[7:04:28] Maka. His focus was only on his ultimate

[7:04:31] goal to find Sida Devi.

[7:04:34] His f he was Hanumanji was only

[7:04:37] motivated by his devotion to Sri Rama

[7:04:40] and depended only on his infinite grace.

[7:04:43] He needed no other support except for

[7:04:46] chanting the sacred name of Rama. He

[7:04:49] knew that even accepting a even

[7:04:51] accepting a kind and sincere offer like

[7:04:53] the one from Mount Maka could delay him

[7:04:56] from reaching in time and then the worst

[7:04:58] might happen.

[7:05:03] Here in the asham, people are always so

[7:05:05] kind and loving to me and often give me

[7:05:08] sweets and chocolates, and I'm very

[7:05:10] grateful for that. But if I were to

[7:05:12] accept and eat everything by myself, I

[7:05:15] would end up sick or have many cavities.

[7:05:18] Instead, I keep them in a box at home

[7:05:20] and when I collect enough, I keep I

[7:05:23] bring them to my class and share them

[7:05:24] with all my friends. Through this story

[7:05:27] we can see that Hanji's mind is always

[7:05:30] fixed on the ultimate goal and he did

[7:05:32] not let anything delay him in his

[7:05:34] mission. Neither the pleasant nor the

[7:05:37] unpleasant deadly raas or comforting

[7:05:40] friends were all the same to him. In our

[7:05:43] Gita class, Danas Swami Gi demonstrated

[7:05:46] an experiment with us just to show us

[7:05:48] how important it is to stay focused on

[7:05:51] our goal.

[7:05:55] Using a big pot full of water and a

[7:05:57] paper boat, we took turns to see if if

[7:06:01] you could reach Kalyama's picture, which

[7:06:03] was hung on the opposite side of the

[7:06:05] pot. Each of us took turns to see if you

[7:06:08] could steer the boat in the right

[7:06:10] direction without touching. just by

[7:06:12] using the power of our breath. And of

[7:06:15] course, while we are doing this,

[7:06:18] other children were also blowing the

[7:06:20] same time, causing the boat to go in all

[7:06:22] directions, sometimes even drowning

[7:06:24] fully.

[7:06:26] But despite this, but despite this, some

[7:06:30] children like Minachi and Ruda managed

[7:06:32] to reach Kalyama's picture and everyone

[7:06:35] was so happy. The water represented

[7:06:38] life. The boat our mind. The wind

[7:06:41] represented all the the desires that

[7:06:44] distract our mind. And Kalyama's picture

[7:06:47] was the ultimate goal.

[7:06:50] The lessons we learned from this is that

[7:06:52] to reach our goal, we need strength,

[7:06:54] discipline, and great focus. Just like

[7:06:56] Hanuman Gi had in Ramayana, we also need

[7:07:00] to be in good company. Saga. Otherwise,

[7:07:03] we saw from the experiment above, the

[7:07:05] wrong company can either delay us on

[7:07:07] reaching our goal or literally drown us.

[7:07:11] But when the goal is set and we have a

[7:07:13] clear plan of how to reach it, it is

[7:07:15] easier to say no to less important

[7:07:17] things and not get distracted from the

[7:07:20] path. Because a goal without a plan is

[7:07:22] just a dream and we need the necessary

[7:07:25] discipline travel.

[7:07:27] No matter what beautiful places we visit

[7:07:30] or what gate performances people have

[7:07:32] prepared or how many mosquitoes attack

[7:07:35] us is only always to be with kalyama.

[7:07:38] Kalyama always says this life is like a

[7:07:41] picnic and we should never forget our

[7:07:43] real home since we never know when we

[7:07:45] will get called back. Our mind should

[7:07:47] always be fixed on the ultimate goal our

[7:07:50] kalyama by come to less important

[7:07:52] things. Such conviction will help us

[7:07:55] become more disciplined and able to

[7:07:57] control our senses more. And when the

[7:08:00] senses are under our control,

[7:08:03] the intellect can no longer be be

[7:08:05] distracted from reaching to her and

[7:08:07] helps us reach the ultimate goal. I

[7:08:09] offer myself and this was my kalyama's

[7:08:12] div.

[7:08:26] Romania.

[7:08:28] Romania.

[7:08:49] Rummonia.

[7:08:55] Romania. Romania.

[7:08:59] Malaysia.

[7:09:07] Romania.

[7:09:43] There's the

[7:10:28] I don't

[7:10:54] Some of you might have the experience of

[7:10:56] procrastinating things that you don't

[7:10:58] like doing, I'm also that person and I

[7:11:02] simply cannot do everything with the

[7:11:04] same attitude.

[7:11:06] If it's something that I like or

[7:11:08] something that is easy to do, I will do

[7:11:10] it without delay. But if it's something

[7:11:13] that I don't like or something that is

[7:11:15] difficult and timeconsuming, I tend to

[7:11:18] avoid doing it. When I was little, I

[7:11:22] used to procrastinate doing my sadas

[7:11:24] because I wanted to play with my

[7:11:26] friends.

[7:11:28] But thanks to my grandmother, she would

[7:11:30] make me sit in the Kali temple and make

[7:11:33] me do my sadena.

[7:11:35] At that time, I didn't really understand

[7:11:38] why she was so strict about it. I just

[7:11:41] wanted to go and play. But now when I

[7:11:44] look back, I realized that she was

[7:11:46] teaching me something important.

[7:11:49] At that age, I thought that doing what I

[7:11:52] wanted was the same as being happy. I

[7:11:55] didn't understand the value of

[7:11:57] discipline or responsibility.

[7:12:00] But my grandmother understood that if I

[7:12:03] always allowed my likes and dislikes to

[7:12:06] control my actions, I would never learn

[7:12:08] to do things simply because they needed

[7:12:10] to be done.

[7:12:12] I remember one particular time when I

[7:12:15] had an important exam coming up. There

[7:12:18] was one subject that I really liked, so

[7:12:21] I had no problem studying it for hours.

[7:12:25] But there was another subject that I

[7:12:27] found extremely difficult and boring.

[7:12:31] Every time I sat down to study it, I

[7:12:34] would find some excuse to get up. I

[7:12:36] would check my phone, talk to someone,

[7:12:39] or suddenly find something else that

[7:12:41] needed to be done. Eventually, I reached

[7:12:45] a point where I was stressed because I

[7:12:47] had barely started studying. I became

[7:12:50] frustrated with myself. And that

[7:12:52] frustration even affected the way I

[7:12:55] spoke to the people around me.

[7:12:58] That experience made me realize that the

[7:13:00] problem was not really the subject

[7:13:02] itself. The problem was my attitude

[7:13:05] towards it.

[7:13:07] I was willing to put in effort when I

[7:13:09] enjoyed something, but when it became

[7:13:12] difficult, I wanted to run away from it.

[7:13:15] And even though the task itself was not

[7:13:17] a big problem, my attachment to comfort

[7:13:20] was making it much harder than it needed

[7:13:23] to be.

[7:13:25] And that made me think, if I only do

[7:13:27] something when I feel like doing it,

[7:13:29] then who is really in control? Am I

[7:13:33] controlling my mind or is my mind

[7:13:35] controlling me?

[7:13:38] Now, the thing that I procrastinate on

[7:13:40] is my studies. If it's a subject that I

[7:13:43] like, I can study for hours. But if it's

[7:13:45] a subject that I don't like, I won't

[7:13:47] even start studying.

[7:13:50] But is this the right attitude? Of

[7:13:52] course not. Bhagavan said to Arjuna,

[7:14:09] meaning fight for the sake of duty,

[7:14:12] treating alike happiness and distress,

[7:14:14] loss and gain, victory and defeat.

[7:14:18] Fulfilling your responsibility in this

[7:14:21] way, you will never incur sin.

[7:14:23] What I understand from this teaching is

[7:14:26] that our responsibilities should not

[7:14:28] depend on whether we enjoy them or

[7:14:31] whether we are guaranteed a good result.

[7:14:34] Happiness and distress, gain and loss,

[7:14:37] victory and defeat. These things are

[7:14:40] constantly changing. If our actions

[7:14:43] depend on them, our mind will also

[7:14:45] constantly change.

[7:14:48] At the moment, I'm doing the complete

[7:14:50] opposite. I'm not able to do everything

[7:14:53] with the same mindset. I let my likes

[7:14:56] and dislikes decide how much effort I'm

[7:14:58] willing to put into something.

[7:15:01] And sometimes when I'm stressed, I get

[7:15:03] tunnel vision. And I even become rude to

[7:15:06] the people around me. That is something

[7:15:09] that I wish to avoid.

[7:15:11] Because when I become too focused on

[7:15:13] what I want, whether it is getting good

[7:15:15] marks, finishing something quickly, or

[7:15:18] simply avoiding something difficult, I

[7:15:20] can forget about everything else around

[7:15:22] me. I may forget that the people around

[7:15:25] me also have their own feelings. I may

[7:15:28] become irritated over small things. And

[7:15:31] in the end, I realize that the stress

[7:15:34] caused by my own attachment is affecting

[7:15:36] not only me but also the people around

[7:15:39] me.

[7:15:41] I think this teaching from the Bhagavad

[7:15:43] Gita is something I can apply not just

[7:15:46] to my studies but to my everyday life. I

[7:15:50] may not always enjoy what I have to do

[7:15:52] and I may not always get the good result

[7:15:54] I want. But I can choose how I approach

[7:15:58] my responsibilities.

[7:16:00] Instead of asking myself, do I feel like

[7:16:02] doing this? I want to learn to ask is

[7:16:06] this my duty? But even then I might make

[7:16:09] lame excuses. I know myself well enough

[7:16:13] to know that I can find a hundred

[7:16:15] excuses when I really don't want to do

[7:16:17] something. So I have found an insurance

[7:16:21] from Allah and Bhagavan's words. Allah

[7:16:25] has said in one of her satsang do

[7:16:27] everything as an offering to God. And

[7:16:30] Bhagavan has said

[7:16:43] meaning fix your mind on me alone and

[7:16:47] surrender your intellect to me.

[7:16:50] Thereupon you will always live in me. Of

[7:16:53] this there is no doubt. When I connect

[7:16:56] these two teachings, I feel that they

[7:16:58] give me something more than just a way

[7:17:00] to force myself to work. I think of

[7:17:03] every action. If I think of every action

[7:17:06] as an offering to God, then even

[7:17:08] something I don't enjoy can have a

[7:17:10] different meaning.

[7:17:13] Studying a difficult subject is no

[7:17:14] longer just something I have to suffer

[7:17:16] through. It becomes an offering. Even

[7:17:20] small ordinary responsibilities can

[7:17:22] become meaningful when I change the

[7:17:24] attitude with which I perform them.

[7:17:28] I don't expect myself to completely stop

[7:17:30] procrastinating from tomorrow. I know

[7:17:33] that I will still have moments when I

[7:17:35] want to avoid difficult things. I will

[7:17:38] still have moments when I feel lazy,

[7:17:40] frustrated, or unmotivated.

[7:17:43] But perhaps the goal is not to never

[7:17:45] have those feelings. The goal is to not

[7:17:48] allow those feelings to control my

[7:17:50] actions.

[7:17:52] I don't know whether I will always be

[7:17:54] able to do this perfectly, but I want to

[7:17:56] keep trying.

[7:17:58] Ama, let me be able to surrender my all

[7:18:02] to you and be able to do each and every

[7:18:04] action with the mindset of doing it as

[7:18:06] an offering. Let me not be controlled by

[7:18:09] my likes, dislikes, comfort, or fear of

[7:18:13] failure.

[7:18:18] foreign.

[7:18:58] Look at these.

[7:19:28] Two minute. Two minute.

[7:19:40] Japan.

[7:19:56] Nice

[7:19:58] big baby.

[7:23:24] speech. Foreign speech. Foreign speech.

[7:23:52] I see the you

[7:24:02] see the

[7:24:04] wee.

[7:24:26] us in

[7:24:34] changing

[7:24:38] songs.

[7:24:56] My eyes are

[7:24:59] blessed.

[7:25:05] You're never

[7:25:27] seeing

[7:25:32] must be

[7:25:39] born.

[7:25:51] God

[7:25:56] is

[7:26:02] the name of my God. Oh my God.

[7:26:13] How can we serve?

[7:26:48] bring

[7:27:00] me

[7:27:03] Let me see now.

[7:27:06] Let me see.

[7:27:18] Mercy.

[7:31:21] Heat.

[7:31:34] Heat.

[7:31:42] Yeah. Heat.

[7:32:00] Day

[7:32:11] for you. Day

[7:32:14] for you.

[7:32:55] Where are the living light?

[7:33:12] Oh dear.

[7:33:17] One day

[7:33:22] heavenly

[7:33:29] king

[7:33:32] might

[7:33:34] be God

[7:33:36] and

[7:33:39] I

[7:33:42] God

[7:33:51] to guide me. I

[7:34:02] wonder

[7:34:13] Please

[7:34:31] on the power

[7:34:33] of my

[7:34:44] king.

[7:34:50] My God.

Sit with your spine erect, eyes closed, and breathe naturally. Synchronize your breath with sound: as you inhale, feel the vibrations of 'Ma' (divine love) ascending through your body to the crown of your head; as you exhale, feel 'Om' (divine light) descending. Ma represents divine love, Om represents divine light, and together they bring peace, harmony, and bliss to the journey of life.
Amma teaches that 'seeing God in the word' is not about denying the world's distractions or imperfections, but shifting perception. Just as a charcoal factory will stain your shirt no matter how careful you are, the world has inherent challenges; yet spiritual practice involves recognizing the divine presence even within those challenges, rather than escaping them.
Amma teaches that a spiritual teacher guides with the tenderness of a mother redirecting a child's hand from fire. The guidance is subtle, woven into life, and often only recognized as grace years later. It is constant, patient pressure—like a thumb on the hand—that helps the student correct course without force or drama.
Yes. Amma emphasizes that spiritual practice is not confined to ashrams; it is the quality of attention and consciousness you bring to every moment of daily life, including study, relationships, and small commitments. An ashram is valuable, but the true spiritual environment is created by your willingness to be aware and corrected in whatever setting you occupy.
Form-based meditation invites you to visualize and worship the lotus feet of a beloved deity or Divine Mother in prayer, cultivating devotion and surrender. Formless meditation focuses on an abstract luminous light or pearl that expands to encompass your entire being. Both paths lead to the same goal: recognizing your true nature as one with the infinite.
Amma acknowledges that our minds are limited and says visualization need only extend as far as individual capacity allows. There is no competition in spirituality; you may visualize white flowers of peace falling on the earth to whatever extent your mind permits, knowing that sincere intention and effort matter more than perfection.
Amma teaches that the body comprises millions of significant cells, each one capable of awakening. When cells degenerate in one area, the whole system suffers. By meditating on every cell awakening, getting purified, and dancing in divine light, you transform the body from a machine to be transcended into a universe to be illuminated from within.
