[0:00] After the shooting, I was like not doing
[0:04] too well. Depression started to kick in.
[0:07] Uh suicidal just Every night I'd go to
[0:09] sleep and I would just cry myself to
[0:10] sleep and I was like, "There's just no
[0:13] hope out there." What's going on,
[0:14] everybody?
[0:16] Zack here about five, five and a half,
[0:18] six years maybe later. Life gets
[0:21] difficult here and there, but when you
[0:23] have that tool to return to,
[0:25] you could lose everything in life and
[0:27] still feel like you're on top of the
[0:29] world. So many years later, meditation
[0:32] is that for me.
[0:34] So, I have a little bit of a story to
[0:36] tell.
[0:38] So, um
[0:40] in high school, I had freshman year I
[0:42] played soccer and I ended up having two
[0:44] concussions, which um ended up causing a
[0:48] little
[0:49] uh
[0:50] issue in my brain, I guess, and I was
[0:53] becoming depressed, but nothing too bad
[0:55] stuff. I was just not that happy, but
[0:58] ultimately I was getting through the day
[1:00] and whatnot.
[1:02] My second semester senior year on
[1:04] Valentine's Day, I was at school. Um
[1:07] There was a school shooting that day and
[1:09] we ended up losing 17 people.
[1:12] >> One of the major school shootings you've
[1:14] heard about. Yes, he was there. It was
[1:16] at his It was at his school.
[1:19] >> And I ended up losing some people I grew
[1:21] up with and friends and it was just
[1:24] awful and
[1:26] um a year after that, I ended up losing
[1:29] a friend of mine who had committed
[1:31] suicide because she couldn't deal with
[1:34] the pain
[1:35] of losing one of her very good friends.
[1:38] Um so, after the shooting, I was like
[1:42] not doing too well. Uh depression
[1:44] started to kick in.
[1:46] Uh suicidal just Every day I'd cry
[1:49] myself to sleep. Um I ate lunch alone
[1:52] just cuz I was not doing too well.
[1:56] And ultimately,
[1:58] um I just needed something to help me,
[2:02] but there every night I'd go to sleep
[2:04] and I would just cry myself to sleep and
[2:06] I was like, there's just no hope out
[2:08] there.
[2:09] And I'd sit in the shower and just cry
[2:12] and like ask for something to come into
[2:14] my life cuz I knew I after my friend had
[2:17] committed suicide, I was like, I just
[2:20] can't be going down the same path as her
[2:22] um because that committing suicide it
[2:25] just affects thousands of people. I was
[2:27] at Florida State and I was just not
[2:30] doing well and I was like uh I was
[2:32] studying athletic training at the time.
[2:35] And something came into my head
[2:37] subconscious subconscious and I was
[2:39] like, what the hell is this voice
[2:41] saying? Subconscious, I'm not interested
[2:43] in that.
[2:44] So, I ended up looking uh typing it on
[2:48] YouTube subconscious and then I came
[2:50] across a man named Bob Proctor and he's
[2:52] like, rewrite your paradigm.
[2:55] Watch a video in the suggested video, I
[2:57] see Bruce Lipton and Dr. Dispenza and
[3:00] I'm like, who are these guys? Let me
[3:02] click on this video.
[3:04] So, I ended up watching
[3:07] um a video where Dr. Joe's just speaking
[3:10] and something just resonated with me and
[3:12] I was like,
[3:14] I don't know why this seems like the
[3:15] answer.
[3:17] Um and at the same time my mom had
[3:19] actually found the work too. Her friend
[3:21] had sent her a picture of becoming
[3:23] supernatural or she had given it to her,
[3:26] I can't remember. And she's like, oh my
[3:28] god, this book is insane.
[3:30] I was like, send me pictures. So, she
[3:32] sent me pictures, literally I think 30
[3:34] to 40 pictures of the preface,
[3:37] introduction. And I'm in my dorm bed and
[3:39] I'm reading it and I'm like, oh my god,
[3:42] Mom, buy this book right now and I cuz
[3:44] I'll be home in a few days it was the
[3:46] end of the semester. She's like, I'm
[3:47] ordering it right now.
[3:49] So, we're actually going to uh Portugal
[3:53] and on the flight to Portugal I read the
[3:56] entire book. During the flight I'm like,
[3:59] "Mom, this is unbelievable."
[4:02] Um
[4:03] so I ended up reading the book, fell in
[4:05] love with it, and the whole trip I was
[4:07] like, "Screw this trip. I need to get
[4:09] home. I need to start doing the work."
[4:12] Um so I get home, I ended up having
[4:14] surgery, so I was um
[4:17] able to just relax and start meditating.
[4:20] So I started meditating
[4:22] and at first
[4:25] I I was like not even thinking about
[4:27] healing the depression. I was I'd always
[4:29] been like called short cuz I'm 5'7". So
[4:33] I was like, "I need to manifest being
[4:35] 6'3". He's like,
[4:36] >> [laughter]
[4:39] >> "I'm putting the potential I'm putting
[4:40] the T I'm feeling the emotion.
[4:42] [laughter] I'm like, I'm going to be so
[4:43] tall."
[4:46] Um
[4:47] and I'd get out of the meditation I'm
[4:49] like, "Do I feel any taller?" And I'm
[4:50] like, "No."
[4:52] Uh
[4:54] so that's how that started and then
[4:55] after 2 weeks of that I'm like, "What
[4:57] the hell am I doing?"
[4:59] I'm like, I read I'm watching videos and
[5:02] I'm just like, what I just
[5:05] I just need to become happy. I'm looking
[5:06] for stuff outside of me to make me
[5:08] happy. I'm like, "It's not the way to
[5:09] go."
[5:10] So I just started doing um I was doing
[5:14] the tuning into new potentials, but I
[5:16] was my potentials now were happiness or
[5:20] just excitement rather than something
[5:22] physical to
[5:24] um manifest. And then
[5:27] so
[5:28] with the work in the beginning it wasn't
[5:31] that I would come out of a meditation
[5:33] like, "Oh my god, I feel so good." But
[5:35] what I was noticing was say on a scale
[5:38] of zero being really depressed and 10
[5:41] being perfectly happy, I would maybe
[5:44] start off the meditation at a one and
[5:46] I'd come out as a two. So, I went into
[5:49] the meditation being depressed and came
[5:50] out just a tiny bit less depressed and I
[5:53] was like, "Well, at this rate, if I just
[5:55] put in the work, make slow progress,
[5:58] right?" So, I told myself, I think of it
[6:01] as a journey across America, right? And
[6:03] you're in the car, you never want to
[6:05] stop the car if you're trying to go from
[6:07] New York to California as quick as
[6:08] possible. So, what I'd say is with doing
[6:12] the work, like some days I would
[6:15] meditate for 5 hours, other days
[6:18] some days I'm like, I'd see absolutely
[6:20] no progress some days, some days I feel
[6:22] like I'm going 400 steps backwards, but
[6:25] I would at least do a 5-minute
[6:26] meditation cuz I said I just got to keep
[6:28] the if I'm pushing the car at 0.5 mph,
[6:32] it's better than stopping the car and
[6:33] getting out. Sometimes I would just do a
[6:35] minute meditation and I was like, "All
[6:38] right, it's better than nothing." But
[6:40] some days I would sit in bed, stare at
[6:42] the ceiling for about 45 minutes
[6:45] convincing myself that I needed to get
[6:47] at least a minute in. With the work, it
[6:49] was just very slow progress for a while.
[6:52] Sometimes I felt like I had gone a month
[6:54] and nothing was changing. Sometimes I
[6:58] would come out of a meditation and I'd
[6:59] have a glimpse of just what it would
[7:01] feel like to be
[7:03] at a neutral state, not even happy. So,
[7:06] um, that was during the summer I ended
[7:09] up going back off to college in for the
[7:12] fall.
[7:13] And being up there with three roommates
[7:15] who were just partying all day, um, I'd
[7:19] be like, "All right, it's 9:00, I got to
[7:21] go to sleep." And really I was just
[7:23] going to meditate cuz I knew if I told
[7:25] them I was meditating, they would have
[7:26] been knocking on my door, kicking the
[7:28] door down saying, "Come on, you got to
[7:30] get out here. What the hell are you
[7:31] doing?"
[7:33] So, um,
[7:35] so my big change really happened once it
[7:39] was the
[7:41] second year anniversary of the shooting
[7:43] on February 14th, and I remember writing
[7:46] in my journal I was like, today's the
[7:48] day I'm just going to completely put
[7:49] myself into the work because I see I
[7:53] could go into a meditation and come out
[7:55] just feeling a tiny bit better.
[7:57] Even if it was I'd go in completely
[8:00] depressed and come out just a little
[8:02] less. I was like, I could see some
[8:04] progress being made.
[8:06] So, once I had started throwing myself
[8:07] into the work, um I never looked back,
[8:11] honestly. Some days I would have it
[8:13] where I was doing a 10-minute
[8:14] meditation, but that was maybe once or
[8:16] twice a week. I saw that my mood just
[8:19] started to improve completely. Um I was
[8:22] catching little glimpses of just what
[8:26] true happiness felt like. But don't get
[8:27] me wrong, there were plenty of
[8:29] meditations where I went in miserable,
[8:31] went through it miserable, was thinking
[8:33] the entire time like, what the hell am I
[8:36] doing? And then about 2 months later, um
[8:40] there was like a week where I was just
[8:42] elated for
[8:43] the entire day and I was just like,
[8:45] "Hmm, something's going on here."
[8:48] So, I remember waking up one morning and
[8:51] I can't remember which day, but I
[8:53] remember sitting in bed and I went to go
[8:55] reach for that familiar thought like,
[8:57] "Oh god, like this day again?"
[9:00] And or just another day. And I remember
[9:03] my brain finally stopped it, pulled
[9:06] itself back in, and said like, "Nah,
[9:08] today's going to be a good day."
[9:10] And it was the first time I noticed
[9:12] >> [applause]
[9:18] >> It was the first time I noticed that my
[9:20] brain now was starting to operate on the
[9:23] new software program that I had spent so
[9:25] much time implementing. Once I started
[9:29] to feel better, my meditations once in a
[9:31] while were starting to be like a little
[9:33] bit mystical. I was getting a little
[9:35] excited.
[9:36] Had a couple out-of-body experiences,
[9:38] was starting to see some
[9:42] going through like little tunnels,
[9:43] seeing portals. I'd run into my mom's
[9:45] room. I was like, "Mom, you will never
[9:47] believe what just happened."
[9:51] Um and then
[9:53] part of the work that I was kind of just
[9:56] doing in the background with my main
[9:58] focus trying to just become happier and
[10:01] have a love for life was I was
[10:03] manifesting things that didn't seem like
[10:06] a big deal, which obviously is why they
[10:08] manifested cuz I wasn't having my focus
[10:10] on them waiting for them to manifest.
[10:13] And
[10:14] my life had started to change
[10:16] drastically. I had different music
[10:20] tastes.
[10:21] I had different cravings for food. I
[10:24] used to want to be a bodybuilder. I had
[10:26] lost 50 lb.
[10:28] And I just started to love myself, which
[10:30] was the main thing that the work was
[10:32] helping me do was self-love, which is
[10:34] truly
[10:36] how you heal any disease in my mind is
[10:39] [music] the love.
[10:41] >> I can talk about all the amazing things
[10:43] that meditation has done for my life,
[10:45] right? I I get off stage, my future wife
[10:48] comes running up to me within minutes.
[10:51] Um
[10:52] manifesting different awards, being in
[10:55] film, right? All that fun stuff, but
[10:58] at the end of the day, it's it's beyond
[11:01] the things we can manifest and the
[11:03] accolades and the the cool things that
[11:05] we can
[11:06] seemingly bring into fruition through
[11:08] this work, but
[11:10] it's more about
[11:12] reconnecting and building that
[11:13] connection with the divine, you know,
[11:15] opening your heart, having those moments
[11:17] of joy pour through you.
[11:20] Those are the things that for me the
[11:22] work is about and when it comes to
[11:25] suicide prevention,
[11:27] that's the thing I'd want to get out as
[11:29] a message is people that are suffering
[11:31] so tremendously.
[11:35] It's not about
[11:37] what you can bring into life
[11:39] on a physical manner that's going to
[11:41] make you
[11:42] more joyous and happy. It's more about
[11:44] like how much can you open your heart?
[11:46] How much can you experience that which
[11:48] is eternal beyond
[11:50] the parts of ourselves that exist here.
[11:52] Those are the things that to me this
[11:54] work 7 8 years later of meditating
[11:58] uh continues to
[12:00] inspire within me and put me in awe each
[12:03] and every day, you know, and
[12:05] sometimes you fall
[12:07] in and out of the you know, you take
[12:09] your little hiatuses off of
[12:11] doing the work and you know, life gets
[12:13] difficult here and there, but
[12:15] when you have that tool to return to
[12:18] you could lose everything in life and
[12:20] still feel like you're on top of the
[12:22] world.
[12:23] And so many years later meditation is
[12:26] that for me, you know.
[12:28] Uh
[12:28] the thing was
[12:30] at a point in time it was like
[12:32] meditation was so important to me and I
[12:35] thought
[12:36] you know, I I have God's greatest tool
[12:38] on my hands.
[12:40] And then I came to after the testimony
[12:42] like wanting to help so many people and
[12:44] I was coming to so many situations I was
[12:46] like
[12:47] these people are in so much pain they
[12:49] can't even sit for a 5-minute
[12:51] meditation.
[12:52] And that led me to wanting to go back to
[12:54] school and building the foundation of
[12:57] just getting people as healthy as
[12:58] possible, right? You could be dealing
[13:00] with someone with back pain they can't
[13:02] sit down for more than 5 seconds
[13:05] to someone with some neuro-divergent
[13:07] illness where they can't even get
[13:09] present and think about themselves for
[13:12] for a few moments in silence. And that
[13:14] led me to the point of
[13:16] at what other parts of the the pyramid
[13:19] of health are important that we can
[13:22] address to to get people so that they
[13:24] can sit in stillness and get to
[13:26] experience these divine meditative
[13:28] states that are so life-changing and
[13:30] I do think anything can be gained,
[13:33] experienced, lived, healed through
[13:36] meditative experience.
[13:38] Sad thing is some people are so in their
[13:42] illnesses, you know, that they can't
[13:43] come to this understanding or they're in
[13:45] so much pain they can't start to think
[13:47] like this and
[13:48] so I've ended up going back to school,
[13:50] funny enough, unknowingly
[13:52] uh where Dr. Joe
[13:54] is alma mater, where he got his
[13:56] doctorate in chiropractic, so
[13:58] I've been here for a little over a year
[14:00] and it's been
[14:01] really awesome to witness the things
[14:03] that inspired his
[14:05] intellectual mind. I'd be in class, I'd
[14:07] be like, "Oh, Dr. Joe definitely took
[14:09] inspiration from that guy from the past,
[14:10] you know?" And learning all the
[14:12] philosophy and history of it, but
[14:15] at the end of the day, it's like
[14:17] if you're suffering out there, I think
[14:18] this work is
[14:21] some of the most profound
[14:23] stuff on the planet. They The In my
[14:25] opinion, my humble opinion, the most
[14:27] profound tool you can add into your life
[14:30] and start to dive into and
[14:33] if you throw yourself into it, you take
[14:35] meditation to the depths of its core,
[14:39] you you will not be let down. And to me,
[14:41] it's just staying consistent with it,
[14:43] building
[14:45] the the magnitude of intensity of the
[14:47] meditations over time and getting better
[14:49] with it and
[14:50] through that, you'll experience probably
[14:53] more than I've experienced, you know?
[14:55] But
[14:56] the important thing is knowing that this
[14:58] work is there for you if you're
[15:00] suffering and
[15:02] you may need other parts of the the
[15:04] pyramid of health in your favor to help
[15:06] you get into that state, but once you're
[15:08] once you're ready for it and you dive
[15:09] into it, it's
[15:11] it's an overflowing fountain of anything
[15:14] you want it to be.
[15:16] And I think it's the thing that truly
[15:18] will set this world in a new direction
[15:20] is once we've all adapted it into our
[15:23] our lifestyles and ways of being. So,
[15:26] with that, just want to thank Dr. Joe
[15:27] for dedicating himself to
[15:30] this work and making it easier for us to
[15:32] understand and know what's going on when
[15:35] we we put ourselves into this state of
[15:38] stillness and
[15:40] where to go from there, you know, taking
[15:42] the journey of growth and evolution and
[15:45] healing and coming to bigger and better
[15:47] things. So,
[15:48] thank you to Dr. Joe and for anyone
[15:50] questioning
[15:52] what meditation's about, all I all I say
[15:54] is just throw yourself into it and take
[15:57] the journey. So,
[15:59] thank you.
[16:00] >> That's exactly why I'm here to help
[16:02] give inspiration to people with
[16:04] depression and suicide, [music] but also
[16:05] the younger generation because this work
[16:07] truly changed me and I know a lot of
[16:09] people that it could help and if we get
[16:12] younger people doing the work, then
[16:13] we'll change the future.
