Painted Raven is a contemporary Native American flute and world music trio led by Annette Abbondanza (Painted Raven) of Orlando, Florida, in collaboration with Holly Red Feather of Ocala and Kimberly Kridler (Dreaming Eagle) of Lady Lake. The group showcases the versatility of the ancient Native American flute as a lead instrument, supported by guitars, keyboards, ethnic percussion, drums and more.
With thirteen albums to date, their modern, all-original music is inspired by the human bonds with nature, each other, and the Creator. It ranges across rock, jazz, blues, inspirational, meditational and healing styles. Painted Raven has received multiple nominations and awards from organizations including the Native American Music Awards, Indian Summer Music Awards and One World Music Awards. Beyond recordings, they offer live flute music, lessons and sound baths.
Annette is a songwriter, producer, recording engineer and performer, and the leader and visionary of the group. She is self-taught on guitar, keyboards, Native American flute and many other instruments. A native of central Pennsylvania of Cherokee and Sioux heritage, she previously led the band The Legend of Stone Soup, using her music to support charitable causes. Performing for cancer, AIDS and other critically ill patients inspired her to create Ashes to Phoenix, healing music for the mind, body and spirit. Her music has aired on NPR's "Echoes". She is equally happy playing for small audiences at nursing homes, community centers, cafes and animal sanctuaries and at festivals such as Native Rhythms.
Kimberly Kridler began learning the Native American flute in earnest in 2012. She placed in the Native Rhythms Festival Flute Players' Competitions in 2013 and 2014, won first place in 2015, and was a featured artist in 2016. She released her album One Breath in 2016, appeared as a guest on four Painted Raven albums, and became a band member in 2024.
