Heather Finlayson Fenton is a meditation teacher, former Buddhist nun, and co-founder of Stream Yoga + Meditation in Port Colborne, Ontario. Her teaching is shaped by 25 years of contemplative practice, including training in both the Mahayana and Theravada Buddhist traditions, and by a lifelong interest in mental and physical well-being. She is committed to making meditation and mindfulness simple, steady and rooted in lived experience.
She teaches from the heart, with warmth, compassion and a grounded sense of humour. Her approach is spacious and non-imposing. She takes joy in community practice and encourages people of any background or belief to build and sustain a daily, or daily-ish, practice of stillness and inner reflection.
Heather leads silent insight meditation retreats, weekly meditation series and introductory sessions in meditative inquiry, in person at Stream and online. She co-leads residential retreats with Julie (Jaya) Boyse. These combine meditation, mindful movement, silence and Dharma teachings.
She is the author of "100 Days of Care: Cultivating Curiosity and Kindness," a self-directed, at-home meditation retreat workbook. It guides readers through the ten "far-reaching" attitudes (parami) of Theravada Buddhism as a path of self-love and compassion. Heather and her husband Michael Fenton founded Stream together, and they practice alongside their young daughter.
