Descrição
The Body & Soul Art Intensive is a weekend creative workshop at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (CoSM) in Wappingers Falls, New York, led by the visionary artists Alex Grey and Allyson Grey. It is for painters, figure drawing students and anyone drawn to art as a contemplative, devotional practice, and who wants to spend a weekend with the two artists who founded this sanctuary.
What to Expect
The intensive runs from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. It begins at 5:00 pm on Friday and closes at 2:00 pm on Sunday. The workshop is listed under painting and figure drawing, so the weekend centers on making art, with the human body as a subject and a doorway into something larger than technique.
Alex Grey and Allyson Grey have spent decades building spaces where art is a shared, participatory experience rather than something only to be looked at. Their work meets in the idea that image-making can serve meditation, self-recognition and community. Working beside them, in the place they created for that purpose, is the heart of this intensive.
About Alex Grey
Alex Grey, born in 1953, is a painter and spiritual teacher whose anatomical visionary art has become a visual language for contemporary mysticism. He works across painting, sculpture and installation, rendering the nervous system, chakras and luminous body as a unified map of human consciousness. His work draws on Western anatomy and Eastern tantric philosophy, bridging medical illustration, religious iconography and psychedelic phenomenology. His signature technique layers translucent figures to show skeleton, musculature, organs and energy meridians in a single composition. He calls these paintings the Sacred Mirrors, and they function as aids to meditation and self-recognition.
About Allyson Grey
Allyson Grey is a painter and social sculptor, and a co-founder of the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, a visionary art sanctuary and interfaith church. Her work bridges abstract painting, sacred geometry and social practice, using art as a tool for community building and consciousness expansion. Her canvases are built from geometric grids, linear fields and what she calls "Order" and "Chaos" systems. Repetition, color gradation and structure evoke states of meditation and contemplation. Where Alex Grey's imagery is anatomical, Allyson's visual language is rooted in pattern and seriality.
The Setting
CoSM is a visionary art sanctuary in Wappingers Falls, in New York's Hudson Valley. It is both a gallery and an interfaith church, and its programming includes workshops, figure drawing sessions, Art Church gatherings and Full Moon gatherings. Taking a workshop here means working inside the environment the Greys built, not in a rented room.
Before You Go
The material lists this as a painting and figure drawing workshop and names no prerequisites, so check with the sanctuary about experience level and what to bring before you arrive.
