It is a Sunday in early November, and the room is settling into the first sounds of Sanskrit. A teacher reads an invocation to Mahalakshmi, the goddess of good fortune, "worshiped by gods, asuras, human beings alike," and asks for Brahman to free the listener from faults and impediments. Then, before any doctrine arrives, the teacher places the class on a calendar. It is the second of four sessions on the divine mother that month, a Sunday wedged between Lakshmi Puja and the coming festivals. It is also All Saints Day, and the teacher notes that it is the day the founder of the community, Lex Hixon, left his body. The teaching that follows is about the eight aspects of Mahalakshmi, and it is less a list of attributes than an argument about what a human life is for. The core claim is that the goddess does not offer wealth as a single thing. She tends to material security, spiritual freedom and the inner clarity that holds both together, and the teacher insists that all three must be attended to at once. What follows is an account of that argument, drawn from the class published on the SRV Associations channel, and an explanation of why its central idea (abundance requires balance, and balance requires a settled mind) is more practical than it first sounds.

Why does the teaching begin with a calendar and a founder's memory?

The opening minutes are easy to skip, but they set the tone. The teacher treats the goddess as a presence to be sat in, not a topic to be summarized, and says the words being used are "so powerful and infused with shakti power and with deep meaning" that the speaker has to "press them" slowly. That phrase, press them, returns throughout. The class is not in a hurry.

The founder's memory is part of the method, too. The teacher describes Hixon's "universal-minded approach to all religions" and links it to the master he followed. For a listener outside the community, the detail matters because it shows how this teaching is meant to be held: as one thread of a wider practice of seeing many traditions converge, not a rival system. That idea of convergence is the thread the rest of the class keeps pulling.

How can three goddesses be one?

Classical renderings often group Mahalakshmi with Mahakali and Mahasarasvati, the three great goddesses sometimes called "tree." The teacher's point is that naming one does not exclude the others. "When you center in on any one of them you don't exclude the others," the speaker says, and suggests a kind of mudra: place the one behind the three, or the three behind the one. (at 5:03) The gesture is a teaching device. All three are presented as one goddess appearing in different aspects, and each aspect governs a different domain of life.

That division is the key to the whole series. Mahakali, the teacher explains, is tied to the attainment of liberation. Mahasarasvati is tied to wisdom and learning. Mahalakshmi is tied to material and spiritual wealth, the subtitle of last week's chart. The teacher's summary is blunt: "She wants us to be taken care of on the spiritual level and taken care of on the material level." Wisdom and knowledge are a third concern, which the teacher links to the psychological and intellectual life that yoga is meant to clarify. The three aspects are not competing claims on the believer. They are three facets of one care.

What does "balance" mean in an abundance teaching?

The most striking idea in the class is the refusal of a simple definition of wealth. The teacher names two problems with what they call the old-style idea of Lakshmi. The first is the wish to have wealth while not caring whether anyone else gets it. The second is the wish for money alone, with no concern for spiritual wealth at all. The speaker says the ancient rishis did not agree with either, and the teacher wants the listener to hold both concerns at once.

The principle that anchors this is abhyudaya, a word the teacher treats as a principle of flourishing and altruism. The class draws a sharp line between the two. Altruism is a practice for working the principle out in the world. But beyond altruism, the teacher says, is a "sense of natural harmony" in which people have "gotten over grasping" and selfish greed, which the teaching identifies as traps in both Buddhism and Vedanta. In that vision, service to one another is not charity added on top of economic life. It is the ordinary way a balanced society works.

The teacher frames this as a claim about nature rather than fairness: "that's the natural law of the universe. There has to be a balance to everything." (at 8:21) The point is not that wealth should be redistributed out of a sense of justice alone. The point is that a world where wealth piles up in some hands while others starve is out of tune with how things are. Yoga, in this account, is the discipline meant to restore that tuning.

Why can't wisdom grow in an empty stomach?

The class then makes a move that surprises many listeners. The teacher argues that the principle of abhyudaya has to come first, because the next stage depends on it. The teacher describes nihsreyasa, the highest good or liberation, as something that follows once "all the affairs are settled," once people are fed, clothed and housed. The reasoning is plain: "You can't teach wisdom or knowledge to someone with an empty stomach." The teacher attributes the idea to Vivekananda, as often heard, and sets it against the reality of world hunger.

The teacher is careful, though, not to make liberation a mere reward for prosperity. The class notes that devotees of Mother Kali often include renunciates who "don't even care about the basics" and concentrate only on getting out of the cycle of rebirth. The teacher treats that as a legitimate path that still has to be weighed against the material reality of the wider world. The argument is for holding the ends of life together, not ranking them. In the teacher's phrase, the goddess "is satisfying all ends of our life," and each end deserves attention.

What is the first aspect, Adilakshmi, and why does it need peace of mind?

Last week's session covered the first four of the eight aspects, and the teacher gives a brief review. The first is Adilakshmi, presented as the spiritual abundance the goddess upholds. The condition for receiving it is peace of mind. The teacher's image is memorable: a person may be rich, but if the mind is restless, "their wealth is escaping them like water through the fingers." (at 11:30) The scriptures, the teacher says, describe this as trying to hold on to air.

Peace of mind, on this reading, is not a reward for wealth but the open hand that lets wealth be held without clutching. The teacher calls it an "open-minded, open-handed" policy. This is where the class's practical edge sharpens. Abundance is not measured in the bank balance alone. It is measured by whether one can receive and release without the grasping that the teaching has already named as the root of trouble.

How does the teaching connect Atman, action and the Gita?

The later parts of the class move toward Vedanta, and the teacher's treatment is worth following closely. Discussing the way to understanding, the teacher says that in order to grasp the truth "the atman is non-doer." (at 44:21) This is a standard Upanishadic idea: the true self is not the agent of action, and the sense of being a doer belongs to the ego. The teacher links this to the Gita and to karma yoga, the discipline of acting without attachment to the fruit. That is the same thread as selfless service. Work done without grasping is what keeps the balance the earlier sections describe.

The class also weaves in the yamas and niyamas, the ethical and inner disciplines that form the groundwork of classical yoga. The teacher suggests they are the practices that make the balanced life possible in the first place, since they address the restless mind and the greed that leaks wealth away.

What does the "abundance of wisdom" look like in practice?

Near the end of the excerpt, the teacher returns to the idea that the goddess gives wisdom as a kind of abundance. Wisdom, too, has to be approached with the right attitude, and the speaker warns against approaching it as a possession to be hoarded. The teacher also notes that the chart the class is built on, pressing the soma with Lord Shiva, is tied to liberation and to the readiness that wisdom requires. The teacher refers to a seminar later that month where the chart will be taught in full, which suggests the subject is meant to be lived in the body as well as studied in the head.

The honest limit of this excerpt is that it stops short of the remaining aspects of the goddess, which the class promises to cover in later sessions. Readers who want the full eight-part structure will need the rest of the series. What the excerpt does offer is a coherent frame: wealth is a relationship, not a quantity; the goddess presides over that relationship in its material, spiritual and intellectual forms; and the way in is through a mind settled enough to receive without grasping.

Where to go from here

Start with the idea the teacher keeps returning to: that you cannot separate the material from the spiritual when you talk about abundance. Take one area of your own life, money, food, work or learning, and ask where you are grasping and where you are open. The teaching suggests that peace of mind is the first practical step. Then, if you want to go further, watch the full class and the earlier session that covers the first four aspects, and pay attention to the moments where the teacher stops to press a word, because the teacher is clearly asking the listener to do the same.

The Sanskrit invocation that opened the class ends with a request that is also a practice: "Free us from faults and impediments, and reveal to us the essence of the scriptures." Peace, peace, peace.

[1:11] Oh

[1:19] shakra.

[1:25] Our salutations to Mahammaya,

[1:29] the abode of good fortune

[1:33] who art worshiped by gods,

[1:37] assuras,

[1:39] human beings alike. We salute thee,

[1:43] oh Mahamayoya, Mahalakshmi,

[1:47] wielder of the conch, the disc, the

[1:50] mace, our eternal salutations to thee,

[1:54] obeisances to thee.

[1:57] For there shines Brahman. May that

[2:00] Brahman protect us. May that Brahman

[2:02] sustain us. And may Brahman illumin our

[2:05] thinking process. Free us from faults

[2:09] impediments.

[2:11] and reveal to us the essence of the

[2:14] scriptures. Om peace, peace, peace.

[2:19] Peace be unto us. Peace be unto all.

[2:31] Now we are into our second of four

[2:34] classes over this D divine mother

[2:36] holiday that is since Navaratri passed.

[2:39] This is the second of a could be a two

[2:42] class series on the divine mother

[2:44] mahalakmi because last Sunday was

[2:46] Lakshmi puja. Today is just the

[2:49] following Sunday which is halfway

[2:51] between her birthday and Mother Collie's

[2:54] birthday next Sunday which we will be

[2:56] celebrating and some teachings on the

[3:01] eight divine missiles of Mother Collie

[3:04] uh which we've had at a retreat or

[3:06] seminar before but I don't think we've

[3:08] had it at at a at a class a recorded

[3:11] class. And then the following Sunday is

[3:14] right next to jagodatri pujas. We have

[3:16] all these divine mother aspects here.

[3:20] That's why I'm calling it a kind of a a

[3:22] month of Sundays kind of series. Today

[3:25] not being a specific holy day but a

[3:28] Sunday caught in between those other

[3:30] three aspects of the goddess is however

[3:33] All Saints Day. And being All Saints

[3:35] Day, it's also the day that our founder

[3:38] Lex Hixon passed from the body. So uh

[3:42] it's very uh wonderful propitious day

[3:45] for us here at SRV associations as we

[3:49] remember him and all he did for us and

[3:53] uh his universalminded

[3:56] approach to all religions just like the

[3:58] great master that he followed and got

[4:01] initiated into Shir Krishna Parahamsa.

[4:04] So all of that is a kind of a timeline

[4:07] that we can center ourselves in as we do

[4:10] this month of Sundays on the goddess.

[4:14] Uh Maha Lakshmi is you in some sort of

[4:18] classic rendering you've got Maha Kali

[4:21] and you've got uh you've got Mahasar

[4:25] Swati, Maha Lakshmi and um so sometimes

[4:29] this is called tree tree or the three

[4:32] great goddesses that you can pretty much

[4:35] point out the whole pantheon of

[4:39] different aspects of divine mother. I

[4:41] mean there are thousands of names for

[4:43] her in scriptures that are sung around

[4:46] the world every day

[4:49] by priests and and by devities. So when

[4:54] you center in on on any one of them you

[4:57] don't exclude the others. It's uh maybe

[5:00] it's a good mudra you know if you know

[5:03] put the one behind the three or put the

[5:05] one in front of the three. that these

[5:08] three goddesses of called tree

[5:11] uh are all one goddess and appearing in

[5:14] different aspects and the different

[5:16] aspects are centered around three of the

[5:19] most important

[5:21] facets of life as you can see from or as

[5:25] you saw from last week's chart uh that

[5:29] we had the um

[5:32] the eight mahalakshmies featured and The

[5:36] subtitle was of that was basically um

[5:40] the material and spiritual wealth of the

[5:44] goddess. So that's kind of what you're

[5:46] covering when you talk about tree. She

[5:48] wants us to be um taken care of on the

[5:52] spiritual level and taken care of on the

[5:55] material level. And there's also of

[5:57] course wisdom, knowledge taken care of

[6:01] on the intellectual, psychological level

[6:05] which yoga is specific for when you

[6:07] practice it. Wants to have that mind

[6:10] pure and the prana flowing and u you

[6:13] know so clar clarifying all of those

[6:16] things is quite often falls to these

[6:20] three great aspects in terms of what

[6:23] we're studying today. We can talk about

[6:25] mahalaki but we might as well be sitting

[6:27] in the atmosphere of sarasati because

[6:29] all of the words we're using are so

[6:32] powerful and infused with with shakti

[6:35] power and with deep meaning. Uh so we

[6:39] have to press them.

[6:42] There's a kind of birthday for me today

[6:43] too because I am working on my five

[6:46] 500th chart. So I just reached 500 and

[6:50] auspiciously enough the chart is called

[6:53] pressing the soma with lord Shiva. So

[6:56] you'll see that in the seminar later

[6:59] this month. This is November first day

[7:01] of November already. So um come to that

[7:04] seminar and see how we press the soma

[7:06] and that that has to do a lot with

[7:09] Sarati as I'm saying but um it's also

[7:12] one of the main aspects in order to

[7:15] attain liberation which is really pretty

[7:17] much mother collie's atmosphere but then

[7:21] it also

[7:23] is definitely a reference to how we can

[7:27] set ourselves up for this wisdom which

[7:29] means as we've often heard in

[7:31] vivikananda You can't teach wisdom or

[7:34] knowledge to someone with an empty

[7:36] stomach. So, uh this is a very important

[7:39] aspect. World hunger, starvation going

[7:43] in one direction and then feeding all

[7:45] beings and having all beings fulfilled

[7:47] and satisfied as the Buddhists like to

[7:50] say is going the other direction to

[7:51] that. Uh and have this abua

[7:56] tenant of India brought out. We were

[7:58] talking about that earlier this morning.

[8:01] uh that it's not just um the rich get

[8:04] rich and the poor get poorer or um

[8:08] basically people don't bring their

[8:10] attention to the fact that wealth has to

[8:12] be distributed equally not out of just a

[8:16] sense of fairness and justice but

[8:18] because that's the natural law of the

[8:19] universe. There has to be a balance to

[8:21] everything and that's yo what yoga wants

[8:24] to bring back yogic practice wants to

[8:26] bring back to us. So in that way then

[8:29] we'd be concentrating on this principle

[8:31] of abuda and altruism. Altruism is a way

[8:35] of trying to work that out in the world.

[8:37] But beyond altruism is this just sense

[8:40] of natural harmony where everyone has

[8:44] gotten over grasping uh selfish grasping

[8:47] and greed

[8:49] uh which which are traps and um problems

[8:53] in both Buddhism and the danta that are

[8:55] noted in the teachings but also have

[8:58] gotten into this idea of taking care of

[9:00] one of one another with selfless service

[9:03] in the true karmic karma yogic type of

[9:07] way. So all of this is kind of a preface

[9:09] to that fact that if we have this Abua

[9:12] principle set forward first which India

[9:14] was very good at doing and which lasted

[9:17] in the forecast system for several

[9:19] thousand years and is always coming back

[9:22] as a something to emulate for societies

[9:25] in the world. Then we can go on to

[9:28] nishas means once every all the affairs

[9:30] are settled we're fed we're clothed

[9:32] we're housed and everyone's uh satisfied

[9:36] in that way and they're not uh wanting

[9:38] for the basics at least of life because

[9:41] you know if you follow follow and

[9:44] worship divine mother kie then sometimes

[9:47] you find a lot of renunciate souls who

[9:49] don't even care about the basics they're

[9:51] just concentrating on liberation and

[9:53] liberation alone to get out of the whole

[9:57] samsaric cycles and get beyond rebirth

[10:01] in the body and that has to be seriously

[10:02] considered too you can see what I'm

[10:05] saying here is if you look at the

[10:06] goddess the three aspects of the goddess

[10:09] basically Lakshmi sarati and ki or call

[10:12] her durga then she's she's satisfying

[10:15] all ends of our life the the main aims

[10:18] and ends of our life have to be uh

[10:21] equally paid attention to so that's why

[10:24] the subtitle this chart we used last

[10:26] week is that it's the material and

[10:28] spiritual well-being of beings that um

[10:32] Maha Lakshmi is putting her attention

[10:34] on. So we'd have to sort of maybe go

[10:37] beyond the old style

[10:40] uh definition of Lakshmi is oh just give

[10:42] me wealth and um number one I don't care

[10:46] if anyone else gets it as long as I get

[10:48] it and number two just give me wealth or

[10:51] give everyone wealth if you want I'd be

[10:53] happy but don't give me any spiritual

[10:55] wealth after that those are two problems

[10:58] that are of an old style definition that

[11:01] India doesn't agree with defin the

[11:03] ancient rishies don't agree with. So we

[11:06] have to have this balance again. So last

[11:09] week we went into that and looked at the

[11:11] first four of the mahalakshmies. Just a

[11:15] quick review one was uh adilakmi.

[11:18] I'm using the word abundance across the

[11:20] board. That's the spiritual abundance

[11:23] that she stands up for. But she insists

[11:26] that you have must have peace of mind to

[11:28] get it. And that's why you see people

[11:30] might be rich, but if they have restless

[11:32] restless minds, then their their wealth

[11:35] is escaping them like water through the

[11:37] fingers. It says in the scriptures, you

[11:39] can't hold on to it or can't hold on to

[11:41] air. So that peace of mind just gives

[11:44] you an open policy, open-minded,

[11:46] open-handed policy. And then the air is

[11:49] all around you. You don't need to grasp

[11:51] it. Wealth will come to you naturally.

[11:53] That's sort of the message of Adi

[11:55] Lakshmi. Adi means original. So it's

[11:58] very telling that the original Lakshmi

[12:01] has to do with um peace of mind and and

[12:05] spiritual abundance. That's the first

[12:07] foot she starts off on. Second, there is

[12:10] across the board dana lakshi. Uh then it

[12:14] should be given to everyone. Danum is a

[12:16] kind of giving out of everything that

[12:18] you have and sharing with others. And so

[12:20] you realize that wealth is to be used

[12:24] for raising a dharmic family if you're a

[12:26] householder and also then uh giving to

[12:29] monasteries and being your your teachers

[12:31] who are going without so that you can

[12:33] have these great teachings and uh they

[12:36] need to be supported too. So that's an

[12:38] important part of donum. So it's in the

[12:41] very word and it's in the second lock

[12:43] there very much and it's all for the uh

[12:47] collective good of of the many not for

[12:49] your personal ego. So at least the monks

[12:53] most of them will escape that problem

[12:55] but the householders run the risk of

[12:57] that problem basically is that you I

[12:59] want I begin to want to take the wealth

[13:01] just for myself or just for my family

[13:05] and no other family. So that goes

[13:07] against that obodia tenant right the

[13:10] third lakshmi is donolaxi this is a

[13:12] quick review of the first four I'm sorry

[13:15] da laki planitude plentitude of of uh

[13:20] food that comes uh from conscious

[13:23] offering to the deities so that's an

[13:26] abundance of prasad that she's

[13:28] representing there first was a spiritual

[13:30] abundance second was the material

[13:32] abundance third lakshmi is this

[13:36] abundance of nourishment or sustenance.

[13:39] But there's always, you know, a a an

[13:43] accompanying teaching that goes with

[13:45] each one of these. With the spiritual

[13:46] abundance, it was that has you have to

[13:48] have and treat it with peaceful mind.

[13:52] The second was it has to be dharmic

[13:54] wealth collectively for everyone. And

[13:57] the third here is when you offer food,

[13:59] it has to be blessed with your mantra.

[14:02] It has to be turned into pride because

[14:04] of the um depending on the teaching the

[14:07] three, four, five, seven or eight

[14:09] different kinds of impurities that are

[14:11] in food. Um we looked at that recently

[14:15] at the retreat. And where were we

[14:17] looking at that recently also at the

[14:19] last class, didn't we? Last Sunday, we

[14:21] looked at the whole Prasad chart uh

[14:24] about holy mother's take on food. You

[14:26] probably remember that or can look back

[14:27] on it. I took that whole new chart on

[14:29] purs

[14:31] on it particularly in accord with how

[14:34] many different hidden impurities there

[14:37] are in food. We know the ones that are

[14:39] there from you know lack of nourishment,

[14:44] lack of nutrients in soil, not enough

[14:46] rain, not enough sun. Then after that we

[14:49] next thing we would go to is oh it's

[14:51] been sprayed, it's not organic, so

[14:53] forth. These are all kind of obvious

[14:55] impurities in the food. But when you got

[14:57] into the subtle ones, nobody thinks

[15:00] about them. And that's how the food gets

[15:02] harvest. What mindset is it gets it gets

[15:05] harvested?

[15:07] uh if if it's harvested with uh chanting

[15:11] the mantras of mahalakmi over it same

[15:14] when it was planted then um you'll

[15:17] you'll have the food rid of that defect

[15:21] of uh of uh trying to trying to make

[15:24] money off of it rather than uh trying to

[15:28] follow Lakshmi's dictims and say this

[15:30] has to be given as pure as possible into

[15:32] the hands mouths systems and prana

[15:36] of other beings, right? Uh it goes very

[15:39] deep in India. I'm looking on the wall

[15:41] here behind and there's charts about

[15:44] this how uh taking up the food and how

[15:48] it helps the condalini uh rise uh in the

[15:51] sushimumna and uh if it has these

[15:55] poisons in it then it's not it's going

[15:56] to have a negative effect which it has

[15:58] been doing for some people and uh

[16:01] without that more complete understanding

[16:04] of the uh the the seven chakras or the

[16:09] nine wheels as We've been looking at it

[16:10] lately. So this uh is you bless the food

[16:15] with with u the mantra that you've been

[16:18] given and you offer it to the deities

[16:20] inside of you. That is you can just eat

[16:23] it but um is the is is the god of the

[16:28] taste buds going to accept it? Is the

[16:31] god of digestion going to digest it

[16:33] properly?

[16:35] Is the god of aroma going to enjoy it

[16:37] the way it should? or the gods going to

[16:39] get the rsome out of it if you do

[16:41] everything unconsciously as opposed to

[16:44] doing it consciously. So conscious

[16:46] eating has become uh somewhat popular

[16:49] mindfulness and so forth but it's not

[16:51] quite going the distance to what India

[16:52] means by pursad it's a very powerful

[16:55] word so I'm going into that teaching

[16:58] even deeper than I did last week but

[17:00] that's the third lock so you can see how

[17:03] pretty much it's going from spiritual

[17:05] benefit to this uh wealth for everybody

[17:09] and then her next foot forward is this

[17:12] oh you're taking food then you better

[17:14] make sure that is offered and is and

[17:16] that it's purified food that it's pad.

[17:20] So it very much follows the recent

[17:22] manifestation

[17:24] uh of divine mother Shriarda Davi whom

[17:27] we worship here in the SRV and what she

[17:30] talked about and thought about in this

[17:33] day and age for our highest good. The

[17:35] force Mahalakshmi there is Daria

[17:37] Lakshmi. It's kind of a word that's very

[17:41] powerful has several different mission

[17:43] uh meanings.

[17:45] But uh it kind of gives you courage. It

[17:48] gives you perseverance.

[17:50] And um you can see that uh you you have

[17:54] to be um worshiping her with this spirit

[17:58] of u of persevering all trials and

[18:01] tribulations that come to you. If if you

[18:04] started there and backed up, if you

[18:06] didn't have nourishing food, you

[18:08] wouldn't have that stamina to forebear

[18:10] all trials, would you? So you can see

[18:12] how one is connecting to the next like a

[18:14] like a chain link you know and one just

[18:18] goes to the next in a dharmic connection

[18:20] uh that they all depend upon each other

[18:22] so you can't just take one of these

[18:23] aspects and walk away and say I've got

[18:25] it this is what the mother wants you to

[18:28] do in fact you know the the the

[18:31] ashtakmies the ashtracalies

[18:34] you know the the navarinas of the shri

[18:38] kula system the nine dorgas I mean Isn't

[18:41] that all about connection? Nobody's

[18:43] looking at that and saying, "I'm just

[18:45] going to worship one and forget the

[18:46] rest." They may do it day by day and

[18:49] forget them all. That's a problem. But

[18:51] you really should be following

[18:53] consciousness as she's presenting it.

[18:55] Here's an aspect of myself and I'm your

[18:58] mother. So, it must be an aspect of you

[19:00] too, right? So, you make those

[19:03] connections in your mind and keep them

[19:04] in mind. And that's always the way in

[19:07] which uh higher learning comes. We're

[19:10] getting to those lakshmi next then uh

[19:12] that that has to do with vijaya and

[19:15] vigil.

[19:16] So let's go to in order then take God

[19:19] gajilaxi next and get into this class u

[19:22] and try and wrap up the mahalakshmies in

[19:25] these two class periods we have you see

[19:28] there goshi has under her abundance of

[19:31] noble power sometimes they call this uh

[19:34] how to protect yourself against more

[19:37] powerful beings in the world than you

[19:39] who do not have the dharma sometimes

[19:42] that's pointed out in this way is that

[19:44] she wants to protect you against

[19:46] powerful beings. I mean, animals in in

[19:49] the forest, you're not as powerful as a

[19:51] tiger that's about to jump on you. So,

[19:54] that's a kind of protection. But she's

[19:56] talking about here too, protection in

[19:58] the human human species. How there are

[20:01] much people much more powerful and much

[20:03] more wealthy with her wealth who stand

[20:06] above us and beyond us and can wield

[20:09] that power over us. So, she wants it to

[20:12] be all power to be wielded noly. It's

[20:16] it's a great responsibility to have

[20:18] power and we haven't seen that that much

[20:21] um uh evidence of that kind of noble

[20:23] power in our country and in in our age

[20:27] in our world as much lately. We always

[20:30] the media always emphasizes the the

[20:32] misuse of power and then you know

[20:34] everyone says oh that's a horrible thing

[20:36] but the emphasis should be on those who

[20:39] have gotten yogic power and who are

[20:41] using it for the highest good of living

[20:43] beings. How so? By giving them spiritual

[20:46] wealth, by giving them uh courage, by

[20:50] giving them uh pure food to eat, make

[20:53] sure they get sustained and then by

[20:56] living uh helping them to to gain the

[21:00] courage and the power to sustain all

[21:02] trials in this very difficult world in

[21:05] the embodied condition. So that's um how

[21:08] we kind of arrive at the fifth

[21:10] connection here. I'm going to be calling

[21:12] them connections because they're all

[21:14] aspects of one one great goddess. So you

[21:17] see the the uh the uh quote there. A

[21:21] view towards protecting all species

[21:24] is based in selfless service combined

[21:27] with a sense of responsibility.

[21:29] So what is that sense of responsibility?

[21:32] Let's look here for a minute and uh take

[21:36] a an accompanying chart. So we can see

[21:39] that what they're talking about here is

[21:40] one of the great principles of India is

[21:42] called Yagya sacrifice. Now I could have

[21:45] brought the five sacrifice chart but

[21:48] we're all pretty versed in that here in

[21:50] Hawaii and we remember that it's

[21:53] sacrifice to the lower subspecies are

[21:57] called animals and plants. So you want

[21:59] to be taking care of the environment

[22:01] because that's very important to keep

[22:02] the natural balance of things. So that

[22:05] food for all again you know it connects

[22:07] all the way back to these other

[22:09] lakshmies she was just looking at. So

[22:11] there's that kind of yoga in and in in

[22:13] it all you can see there it listed

[22:15] called Buddha yoga service uh to

[22:19] subhumans. Krishna says behold my forms

[22:22] by hundreds and thousands manifest and

[22:25] divine and of multicolors and many

[22:28] shapes. So sometimes he says there are

[22:31] many manylegged cities running around in

[22:34] my world. There's beings with thousand

[22:38] legs and 100 legs and and eight legs and

[22:42] six legs and four. But my favorite is

[22:44] that two-legged one. He likes the human

[22:46] being best of all. kind of goes in in

[22:49] accordance and agreement with with how

[22:51] in Christianity the lord you know

[22:53] finally produced mankind and was very

[22:56] pleased with that it's the rig vda says

[22:59] that too and they brought the spirit a

[23:02] cow body the spirit said don't like that

[23:04] that much brought him a horse body nah

[23:07] bought him a human body there I can get

[23:09] into that and uh then the lord was

[23:12] pleased and the soul was pleased so the

[23:15] human being has that if we go back one

[23:17] have noble

[23:19] quality in them. A quality to be noble,

[23:22] to act noble, to think nobly, to eat

[23:24] nobly and to do nobly, noble things to

[23:28] people. So this is all about Buddha

[23:31] Yagya. You have to start with all the

[23:33] species and give give it equally. That's

[23:36] aba in a more universal way. up the side

[23:40] then you see the next kind of yoga is

[23:42] nar yoga having created mankind in the

[23:45] beginning together with sacrifice the

[23:47] lord said by this shall you pro

[23:50] propagate

[23:53] that's sacrifice to mankind so we're

[23:56] remember we're looking at this in in

[23:58] accordion

[24:00] right this noble way of proceeding that

[24:02] you keep these five sacrifices in mind

[24:05] every day and uh then you see

[24:09] The next one is on the left hand lower

[24:11] side. Petriog is sacrificed to your

[24:13] ancestors.

[24:16] That one sees who sees the supreme lord

[24:18] is remaining the same in all beings in

[24:20] the dying and the undying. Sri Krishna

[24:23] says so

[24:25] know if your ancestors pass they've gone

[24:28] into another realm into a different

[24:30] atmosphere and they're still alive. That

[24:33] is their soul never dies.

[24:35] If they're transmigrating, it's not only

[24:37] their soul that hasn't died, but their

[24:39] mind hasn't died either. That's

[24:41] something that's not said very often.

[24:42] The body died only. And the the prana

[24:45] left that form, but the mind still has

[24:47] the prana in it. Psychic prana, right?

[24:50] And it's going to go from place to place

[24:53] uh this thirst for life forever quench.

[24:57] Van just said why? Because it drags from

[25:00] birth to death and death to birth of

[25:02] soul. So that's an unconscious passing

[25:04] on the moonletit path Krishna calls it

[25:07] they come and go along that path but if

[25:09] they go the sunlit path they go never to

[25:12] come back again. So that's a very

[25:14] beautiful teaching in the Gita. These

[25:16] are all from the Gita. These great five

[25:18] sacrifices are being commented on by

[25:20] him. So betray is a sacrifice to your

[25:23] ancestors who are not dead by any means.

[25:26] They just went into another room and

[25:29] that room is where? Within you. Why?

[25:32] Because Jesus said the kings of heaven

[25:34] are within you and that's where they

[25:36] went if they still have a mind that

[25:38] wants to embody it again. Right? It's

[25:40] the mind that takes on bodies

[25:43] uh and God and at remain free of them.

[25:47] Brahman and Atman.

[25:50] So that's why we want to treat the the

[25:53] body mind mechanism to the teachings of

[25:55] Mahalakshmi in all her forms so that it

[25:57] will benefit in the highest way and it

[26:00] can then take its choice whether it

[26:02] wants to take a birth again or if it was

[26:05] wants to come back into this cosmic

[26:07] dream then like Rivani can say well it

[26:10] may be a dream but if I'm going into it

[26:13] I better become a conscious dreamer and

[26:16] and live a divine life in the dharma and

[26:19] leave that behind. as your as your uh

[26:22] your heritage, your inheritance.

[26:25] That's three of the of the sacrifices uh

[26:28] that we're looking at here in terms of

[26:30] God's luxury. How about rishiaga?

[26:33] Sacrifice to the sears.

[26:36] Cherished by sacrifice, the wise shall

[26:39] enjoy the enjoyments you desire the you

[26:42] desire. But a thief is he who enjoys

[26:45] without returning anything. There's a

[26:48] great Lakshmi teaching in that isn't

[26:50] there because that goes back and echoes

[26:53] against the board in each one of these

[26:55] other Lakshmi is that uh they you that

[26:58] obaya wanting to feed everyone equally

[27:01] wanting everyone to have wealth enough

[27:03] to satisfy their basic ends and needs

[27:06] and then having equal access to

[27:08] education and then having equal food uh

[27:11] food nourishing food to take. It's just

[27:13] all across the board the difference

[27:15] between one who has the highest good out

[27:18] highest thought for you and the one

[27:21] who's a thief and steals as Krishna says

[27:23] and doesn't give back uh once they've uh

[27:27] entered into the body and into the human

[27:29] race. They have four different

[27:32] sacrifices they can do along with

[27:34] sacrifice to nar human and they're only

[27:37] doing sacrifice to the ego right to

[27:41] their own ego. That's a thief who takes

[27:43] and doesn't give back. So it's written

[27:46] into the dharma that that's something

[27:47] that you need to be aware of. And u in a

[27:51] darkened age there are more egos like

[27:54] that around than than not. And uh fewer

[27:57] of the rare souls that teach this kind

[27:59] of wisdom and uh who give it to us. Uh

[28:03] the the final yoga at the top there is

[28:05] dva yoga and Krishna says about that

[28:08] longing for success in action on earth

[28:11] they worship the gods for quickly is

[28:14] success born of action in the world of

[28:16] man.

[28:18] Uh I wish that was true. Uh but higher

[28:21] success takes longer. Uh you can see in

[28:24] this day and age as consciousness falls

[28:27] down and has its relationship with

[28:29] matter that there are a lot of people

[28:31] getting rich quick and uh they don't

[28:33] have a lot a lot of work to do to do it

[28:36] because of the advanced mechanisms of

[28:38] science and technology. It makes it

[28:40] possible for clever people to get rich

[28:41] very quick. And so you have a lot of

[28:43] people who are who are stripped of what?

[28:49] Responsibility.

[28:50] You know, that's what we're talking

[28:52] about here when we say noble. The the

[28:54] noble appro approach of Lakshmi, right?

[28:57] She wants everything to be used nobling.

[29:00] Wealth, food, lands,

[29:03] wisdom, knowledge. Everyone has to get

[29:05] it equally. And they have to be set up

[29:08] for that. so that they uh um

[29:12] uh can come to it uh with with as pure

[29:15] and a spirit and as courageous a spirit

[29:18] as one can have. And and if you have to

[29:23] go through trials and tribulations to

[29:24] get it, then you're going to need that

[29:26] strength that carries you through. Um so

[29:30] that's a quick look at what we might

[29:32] look at if we looked at God actually and

[29:34] went to a a related teaching these five

[29:38] yogas.

[29:40] Um

[29:41] just as a quick passing because I'm

[29:43] going to run a few charts by you pretty

[29:46] quickly uh to to give instances of these

[29:50] teachings. down here at the bottom we

[29:52] can see how many other sacrifices are

[29:54] listed in the vadas

[29:57] um the scriptures

[29:59] you can sacrifice to the senses

[30:04] to the sense actions

[30:07] you can make offering to the goddess of

[30:09] wealth

[30:10] uh you can offer yogic practice to the

[30:13] lord I do my practices for you oh lord

[30:16] and can put them into his hands you can

[30:19] sacrifice your breath, you know, you do

[30:22] conscious breathing and instead of

[30:24] thinking, oh, I feel good, I breathing

[30:26] or instead of waking up your prana just

[30:29] for your own selfish purposes, you offer

[30:31] the effect of the breathing back to the

[30:33] Lord. I breathe because of you

[30:36] s

[30:38] or ham, right? It's a natural breath.

[30:41] You go, you breathe in, ham,

[30:45] you breathe out. It's a natural mantra

[30:47] you're saying all the time. So it's not

[30:49] a mantra if you're not conscious of it.

[30:51] And it's even more uh powerful if you're

[30:54] conscious of it by giving it back to the

[30:57] lord as sacrifice. You gave me this

[31:00] breath. Here it is back. Right? It's

[31:02] your breath I'm taking. I mean u

[31:08] you are one with that very very deity

[31:12] that you're worshiping and offering to.

[31:14] So this also has non-dual ramifications.

[31:19] Then there's an offering there as

[31:21] sacrifice to the lord. You can offer to

[31:24] the hearing and sense objects that is

[31:28] sound. You can offer sound

[31:32] music um mantras recitation of slokus

[31:36] all offered back to the lord. Those are

[31:38] yoga you do. Everything becomes a yoga,

[31:41] a sacrifice back to the source.

[31:44] And austerities are some beings who are

[31:46] very good at offering austerities back

[31:49] to the Lord. They do very amazing

[31:52] austerities. So they can get the

[31:54] attention of the Lord and the Lord will

[31:56] give them boons for doing these

[31:58] austerities. But only if they're offered

[32:00] back and they're not taken to the self

[32:02] for selfish purposes.

[32:05] You can offer sacred study and that's

[32:07] one of Sri Krishna's favorite of all the

[32:10] offering of sacred study. So uh that's

[32:14] pressing the soma as we just said right

[32:17] chart 500 uh you have to learn from Lord

[32:21] Shiva how to do that how to place the

[32:23] mind on the soma as you know they

[32:26] actually did press a soma in the ancient

[32:28] times uh it was a plant that grew in the

[32:32] Himalayas so they went looking for the

[32:35] soma plant they plucked it and harvested

[32:38] it brought it back and they pressed it

[32:39] between stones and there is a juice that

[32:41] comes from

[32:42] And then you do certain preparation with

[32:44] the juice. There's a whole series of of

[32:47] ritual done on pressing the soma.

[32:49] Interestingly enough, they don't know

[32:51] what that plant was nowadays. So they

[32:54] don't have any scientific or biological

[32:56] name for it. They don't know what it was

[32:58] that they were gathering up in the

[32:59] mountains called Soma plant. They just

[33:02] hear the description from the rig of how

[33:04] they gathered it and pressed it and

[33:06] drank it and offered it to in the

[33:07] rituals in the pujas. I think it's very

[33:11] beautiful that um we don't know what it

[33:13] was because then it leads you to the

[33:16] spiritual significance of offering soma.

[33:18] How to press the wisdom. That's the real

[33:20] meaning of soma. In between there's this

[33:23] dangerous occult power zone which you're

[33:26] going to take the soma since you don't

[33:28] know what it was and call it an

[33:29] intoxicant. Oh, they drank it because

[33:31] they could get high. No, the only high

[33:34] that lasts is wisdom. Wisdom taking the

[33:37] teachings. And so it was all uh a ritual

[33:40] for pressing the soma in the mind which

[33:43] Shiva teaches in the triura upanishad

[33:47] and in the triuranad specifically to the

[33:50] gods and to the pjapatis and to

[33:52] brihastiti and to the god of fire who's

[33:55] being offered to he teaches these this

[33:58] pressing of the s in the spiritual way

[34:00] but there is a ritual that was done

[34:02] physically in the ancient times that you

[34:05] can read about and uh That's in charge

[34:09] 500. You can come to seminar and and see

[34:11] how that is, how that how that goes. And

[34:14] in fact, the soma was not the ambrosia

[34:17] that made you really high and

[34:18] everything. It was very bitter to taste

[34:21] and you had to add milk to it and and

[34:24] barley and things like that to make it

[34:26] even palatable. So, I mean, they go they

[34:29] go with the fancified imagination on

[34:31] this kind of thing and and superimpose

[34:33] things that aren't true on it. The real

[34:36] purpose of it is to go towards that that

[34:39] ritual pressing of scripture in the mind

[34:43] between the two hard flat rocks of your

[34:46] mind to squeeze that juice out of it and

[34:49] then drink it after you prepare it.

[34:52] Anyway, something to say about offering

[34:54] sacred study because that's that's what

[34:57] uh engages the sears in sacred study for

[35:00] so long and their fieldalty becomes

[35:03] completely to the goddess of wisdom in

[35:05] that way and then they want more of it.

[35:08] They go to the goddess of abundance.

[35:10] Give us more s. So the whole thing is is

[35:14] uh connected and controlled and and uh

[35:17] provided by the divine mother in her

[35:20] aspects.

[35:21] So offer food and this energy of course

[35:24] is back to the the the uh the uh da

[35:28] lakmi and so everything has to be

[35:31] offered to the deities as pride.

[35:34] That's all for this chart. I'm going to

[35:36] go through three charts very quickly for

[35:38] you around this gaja lakshmi or no not

[35:42] around we've just completed god lakshmi.

[35:45] take up um Santana Lakshmi and read what

[35:50] is about her. So you see there are the

[35:52] abundances of family blessings

[35:56] or heritage or lineage you could say.

[36:00] There are many ways you could put it. Uh

[36:02] we're trying to make this as

[36:04] comprehendable as possible to a western

[36:06] culture. Uh so

[36:09] uh uh that art is not unknown to people

[36:12] but there are a lot of what what's the

[36:15] phrase I'm thinking for right now in the

[36:17] west

[36:19] dysfunctional families out there and and

[36:22] Shiva and Shaktis who marry and don't

[36:24] stay together even after having

[36:26] children. There's a whole problem with

[36:28] the dharma in terms of family and and

[36:30] how to make family a sacred connection.

[36:33] I'll show you that next. It's called

[36:36] these these uh sacred connections that

[36:39] the rishies uh looked on. But first of

[36:42] all, let's read about her. Unconditional

[36:44] love and attentive care ensure the birth

[36:48] of noble souls within a family lineage

[36:52] lived in harmony.

[36:54] So

[36:59] I would say that um I had a few

[37:02] experiences of leaving America and going

[37:05] to India on pilgrimage and and uh

[37:10] maybe a dozen times in my life so far

[37:13] maybe more. So

[37:16] one thing that did strike me was uh

[37:19] amongst this extended family of Shamak

[37:22] Krishna Parahamsa in Kolkata area which

[37:25] is not a city that you'd call you know

[37:28] clean and pure and and peaceful it's

[37:31] very noisy and very polluted and it's

[37:34] grown up from tent city and from the war

[37:37] from the wars uh so sitting amongst the

[37:40] families of Sham Krishna who invited me

[37:42] to have food with them in little tiny

[37:44] huts inside of this this city called

[37:49] called Kolkata and feeling like I was I

[37:53] was being accepted by this beautiful

[37:55] family of of a wife and husband and

[37:57] children and how natural they were to be

[38:00] living in such squalid condition but

[38:02] being in total harmony with it. uh and

[38:06] then comparing that against the homes

[38:08] that I went to in the west that I grew

[38:10] up with and how chaotic they were and

[38:13] how disobedient the children were and

[38:15] how uh how u unable to raise a dharmic

[38:20] family the parents were because they

[38:21] didn't have dharma given to them by

[38:23] their parents. So there was a great

[38:25] contrast there that I saw in my own life

[38:28] when I sat in a truly dharmic family who

[38:30] didn't have laxshmi in abundance wealth

[38:34] lakshmi u but were perfectly happy and

[38:37] content and peaceful and living in

[38:39] harmony so I saw that you know in my own

[38:42] experience so very beautiful kind of

[38:44] experience to have so if we look at

[38:49] santana lakshmi then we're talking about

[38:53] beings being born from from a higher

[38:56] perspective. And I wanted to show you a

[38:58] few um a few charts about that. This one

[39:03] in particular kind of events

[39:07] um

[39:09] this teaching from Santana Lakshmi.

[39:13] You can see that it's a chart that's in

[39:15] footfalls, but we haven't looked at it

[39:16] very much at all over the years. Um

[39:20] and um

[39:23] it's all about uh pities they're called

[39:28] uh basic essential connections that come

[39:31] in fives. Uh we know that contication is

[39:35] a very important thing in cosmic uh sank

[39:39] yoga for instance. So where that gets

[39:43] brought out is in the titeria panishad.

[39:46] The quote says here, "The illumin seir

[39:48] who revealed this essential wisdom by

[39:50] his deep intuition, having grouped the

[39:53] various elements of existence, declared

[39:56] that the entire universe of gross and

[39:58] subtle worlds is based in sets of

[40:00] five-fold principles

[40:03] and that one set of fives enables and

[40:05] preserves the next set of fives. The

[40:08] seere opens up cosmic vision by knowing

[40:11] this principle of fives based on facts

[40:14] known to all.

[40:16] So some things are known to all in

[40:19] science, in biology, in math, in in

[40:23] arts. But how deeply are they known as

[40:25] connections. So this is where this idea

[40:27] of Yahis comes along. They looked at

[40:30] everything as a grouping like we are

[40:33] doing with the goddess here, right?

[40:35] Eight of them. So nine duras and so

[40:38] forth. uh the uh 10 dos of vahava. I

[40:43] mean there's groupings everywhere of the

[40:44] goddesses. So there she's trying to kind

[40:46] of tell us this that you forgot to look

[40:50] at things you know as collections

[40:53] these cosmic principles as collections.

[40:56] Sure, they'll all merge into oneness

[40:58] later. But that's why people jump to

[41:00] advita without knowing the groupings and

[41:02] then they run ary or run a foul of

[41:05] advite realization and come falling back

[41:07] down find themselves reborn again

[41:10] without the essential wisdom to get moa

[41:13] dharma first ara then common next and

[41:15] moki at the end. This is kind of a a

[41:19] four-fold rule. So basically then you

[41:22] can see here out of the vdas what these

[41:25] ancient viais were. First they meditated

[41:29] on the universe

[41:32] and the earth the firmament the

[41:34] atmosphere and the air in it. Second

[41:36] they meditate when they meditated on

[41:38] learning they included teachers students

[41:41] study and the imparting of wisdom that's

[41:43] called transmission of wisdom.

[41:46] On the right hand side they meditated on

[41:48] light. they included fire, sun, water

[41:51] and lightning into it. Then when they

[41:55] they concentrated on what we're talking

[41:58] about right now with uh Santanol Lakshmi

[42:02] offspring and and lineage, family

[42:04] lineage, they when they concentrated on

[42:06] progeny, they they thought father,

[42:08] mother, offspring, and procreation.

[42:11] U if you put all of these together as

[42:13] connections then you see that they're

[42:16] they're groupings of five that you

[42:19] actually meditate on before you have

[42:21] children

[42:24] and uh you do it in dharma and uh then

[42:28] as the chart just told us if everything

[42:31] is done in that kind of awareness then

[42:34] good offspring start coming to those

[42:36] that family line. I mean we look back at

[42:39] India and see the rishies and how they

[42:41] rishies and how they married and how

[42:44] they had children and wrote us the

[42:46] uponads right spoke us the uponads they

[42:49] got written down later. So all of this

[42:51] was passed from illumined householder

[42:55] rishies to the children who plastered it

[42:58] to their children and they learned it as

[43:01] in in meditating and contemplating on

[43:03] these cosmic uh quintuplications. I I

[43:07] wrote a whole book about it that you can

[43:09] look at because we concentrate in Sanka

[43:12] yoga on the five elements, the five

[43:14] senses, the four-fold mind plus cosmic

[43:17] mind is also five, the five ton matras,

[43:20] the five active senses. I mean there's

[43:23] 24 in all maybe 25 some people say and

[43:26] if you add the atman in there, the

[43:28] perisha there's 26. So basically you've

[43:31] got these sumpkic renderings of con

[43:34] principles that follow the five-fold

[43:36] quintuplic quintuplication process that

[43:39] this is an ancient vic teaching that put

[43:42] it in terms of yahitis. These are

[43:44] essential connections that you don't

[43:46] just meditate on uh by random or thank

[43:50] god that they happened. This is the very

[43:52] foundation of it. Just like there are

[43:55] seven chakras and there's a basic chakra

[43:58] for those and just like there's nine um

[44:02] tririconas in the shriantra and they all

[44:05] connect to each other. Uh these are

[44:07] essential connections that are true uh

[44:10] at all times. It's not you're just

[44:12] discovering them. And you know the same

[44:15] principle comes up with uh realizing

[44:18] your right. You're going to have to

[44:19] meditate on things that aren't the otman

[44:21] in order to understand that the atman is

[44:23] different from them, isn't it? So your

[44:27] ego is one of those things that's not

[44:29] the otman and causing you a lot of

[44:31] problem. So you're going to have to

[44:33] understand the ego to realize that it's

[44:36] separate from the it's the chaff and

[44:39] it's not the wheat and people are taking

[44:41] it as the the essence but it's the

[44:43] non-essence of everything. And you go

[44:46] back on all the different forms of

[44:49] mahalakmi, you'll find out that people

[44:51] aren't getting the wealth they need or

[44:53] they're getting too much of the wealth

[44:55] that they want and not being able to use

[44:57] it responsibly simply because of that

[45:00] reason. They haven't meditated on these

[45:03] connections as eternal principles.

[45:06] Um they're stumbling upon them in lower

[45:08] knowledge. They're discovering them and

[45:10] assigning their name to them. Right?

[45:12] It's the ego's play. I see some

[45:16] constellation in the sky. I'm g to put

[45:17] my name on it because no one's looked at

[45:19] it yet. So this is the ego fumbling

[45:22] through life forever. But if you go to

[45:25] any side of kind of a teaching like the

[45:27] yogis or like the ashta

[45:30] or like the four-fold fruits dharma kama

[45:34] ara and moia and you find out that

[45:37] you're not discovering anything new at

[45:38] all. You're uncovering the truth of

[45:42] existence and you are at the foundation

[45:44] of it.

[45:47] Uh so this is why we call Brahman a

[45:50] non-doer. We don't think of God as a

[45:52] creator. That's the mind that's

[45:54] projecting all of that. The mind has

[45:56] happens to have some very powerful

[45:58] things in it like Brahma, Vishnu and

[46:00] Shiva. That's the cosmic mind. So

[46:04] all deference to them and all reverence

[46:07] to them. Then we start to look at what's

[46:08] beyond them. Uh we can't get to it

[46:11] unless we look at these essential

[46:13] connections and note them. And by the

[46:17] way offer to them, right?

[46:21] Every in every one of these

[46:24] ashta lakshmi

[46:26] is mentioned the offering. You have to

[46:29] offer pressing the s is all about

[46:31] offering it back to the source. It's not

[46:33] about drinking it or any other thing.

[46:36] It's all about getting it, procuring it,

[46:39] having it, possessing it, and offering

[46:41] it back to the source where it came

[46:42] from. So that's the real meaning of the

[46:44] word via in Sanskrit. It all has to be

[46:48] tied with sacrifice and giving. Selfless

[46:51] giving, not self, not selfish grasping,

[46:54] selfless giving. And it's one of the

[46:57] things that needs to be very pronounced

[46:59] now in in u United States, Europe, the

[47:03] western constant and pretty soon in the

[47:05] whole world which is taken to this

[47:08] material search. The search for

[47:10] satisfaction in in in

[47:13] matter is the um futile search for

[47:18] satisfaction in Maya. Right.

[47:27] And um in the middle there I was talking

[47:29] about the ego self without having gone

[47:31] to it but there you see the lower jaw

[47:34] the upper jaw speech and the tongue

[47:37] are put together with the ego self as a

[47:40] five-fold conjunction conjunction a good

[47:43] English word for via

[47:46] and uh so here's the essential

[47:48] conjunction you know you're here's a

[47:50] five and here's a five and there are two

[47:52] fives and you're coming together like

[47:54] this into one, right? That's what

[47:56] namaste really means. And uh people

[48:00] don't know that. Uh it's it's uh

[48:04] saluting that that which always is.

[48:07] It's not discovering something new that

[48:09] once had a beginning and might have an

[48:11] end later. It's it's affirming that this

[48:14] always is the truth. It's just like

[48:17] saying that thou art or a braas me and

[48:21] so forth. Um anyway this is a

[48:24] fascinating aspect and it's very well

[48:27] brought forward by Santana Lakshmi and

[48:29] what she wants to events for us. Let's

[48:32] end this and I want to go to another

[48:34] chart about about Santana Lakshmi uh

[48:37] with the bottom quote. One should

[48:39] meditate upon the elements that compose

[48:42] the universe namely earth, intermediate

[48:46] space, heaven, sky, the four, the eight

[48:49] directions, fire, air, sun, moon, stars,

[48:52] water, herbs, plants, trees, ether, and

[48:56] one's body, including skin, muscle,

[48:58] bone, and marrow. Then meditate on the

[49:01] five senses and the five pranas. Then

[49:04] contemplate M the universal term of

[49:07] compliance which is one with Brahman

[49:10] that's from the titad.

[49:13] So where did this science of fives this

[49:16] quintuplication process come from? The

[49:19] vdas the earliest times it wasn't lord

[49:23] copia that put it together uhh out of

[49:26] his his own meditations out of nothing.

[49:29] It was there in the earliest times and

[49:32] uh he just recognized them and then put

[49:35] them into five-fold

[49:38] um system of sumpka. That's something

[49:41] called enumerating, right? You're

[49:43] enumerating what's there. But what's

[49:45] there is always been there and always

[49:47] will be there. It's just appearing and

[49:49] disappearing. It's coming from your mind

[49:52] and then manifesting as Krishna says

[49:55] here. And then it's going back to an

[49:56] unmanifested state. Well, all the time

[50:00] nothing's really happening. The one soul

[50:02] is looking on, seeing it do this, and

[50:05] then having its realizations that it's

[50:07] not the changing, it's the unchanging

[50:10] that's important.

[50:20] There's one more look at God Shalakshmi

[50:23] about families that I want to take you

[50:25] into

[50:27] as we

[50:29] as we wrap up this class and that's

[50:32] another teaching by by Lord Krishna.

[50:39] It's a little bit more pertinent to

[50:42] family and it's just a beautiful list

[50:45] that I've always loved that you can

[50:48] really kind of skip over and rush past

[50:51] if you're reading the Bhagavad Gita, but

[50:54] you shouldn't. I mean, this is like this

[50:57] is the knowledge that we're missing

[50:59] about rebirth in the West. why it's not

[51:01] taught in schools. Should be taught in

[51:04] grade school to the children all the way

[51:05] up through high school into college that

[51:07] we're in a series of births here. And

[51:09] this that that fact alone will rid us of

[51:12] the of the false knowledge that we're

[51:14] the body, wouldn't it? Oh, I can't be

[51:16] the body because I'm taking many bodies

[51:18] through a series of cycles.

[51:21] So that's the first thing it would come

[51:22] clear to us and we wouldn't be forced to

[51:25] to uh look upon our body as the only

[51:28] reality which is a big problem in in uh

[51:31] the west. Uh after that other

[51:34] realizations could come forth from that

[51:36] like how to get off the wheel. That's

[51:38] what Buddha was teaching to the Hindu

[51:42] race. The Indians 550 years before Jesus

[51:46] showed up and told you birds have nest,

[51:49] foxes have have holes, but you have no

[51:51] place to lay your head here. He was as

[51:53] much saying you're not a body that

[51:55] happens once in time. And then the whole

[51:58] teaching of time can be, you know, held

[52:01] suspect.

[52:02] You can look at it from a distance, say,

[52:04] "Wait a minute. I'm witnessing time,

[52:05] aren't I? Where did it come from? You

[52:08] know, and start finding out its origin

[52:10] inside yourself because it went away in

[52:12] deep sleep and it came back and waking.

[52:14] So, it must be happening somewhere in

[52:16] me.

[52:19] Anyway, going at it from the standpoint

[52:21] of convincing people that they've had

[52:23] other bodies, Krishna pulls no punches

[52:25] when he reads in the Gita these slokas.

[52:28] First, he says, "Among thousands of

[52:31] beings, scarcely one strives for

[52:33] perfection.

[52:35] And of those who strive and succeed,

[52:38] scarcely one knows me in truth. So how

[52:41] does one come to know the Lord in truth?

[52:45] Whether that Lord for you is Krishna,

[52:48] Buddha or Christ or Ramach Krishna. Um

[52:53] by seeing uh that there's a sequence and

[52:56] I mean it's very interesting that we

[52:58] just looked at the conjunctions, right?

[53:01] I mean here's a conjunction for you of

[53:04] of bodies and gocha suntan lakshmi is

[53:08] like you know there is one of the

[53:10] mahalakmi saying you have an abundance

[53:13] of bodies you have an abundance of

[53:15] children I mean how many thousands of

[53:18] children does a man have inside of him

[53:21] in his sperm he's got thousands of

[53:23] children just a simple human being

[53:27] they're all in potential

[53:29] thankfully mother takes one and works

[53:31] one out and hopefully does it

[53:33] dharmically. But basically go Santana

[53:37] Lakshmi is as if she's saying there

[53:40] you've got thousands of lifetimes to

[53:42] live if you want them. Uh and uh you can

[53:45] also get beyond them and just have that

[53:47] one final lifetime that that the

[53:49] Buddhists are talking about and and get

[53:52] your liberation and moia like like the

[53:54] advidance are talking about. So here's

[53:57] how this goes in Krishna's own reading

[54:00] the riot act on what we don't know in

[54:03] the west first of all you can be through

[54:05] your good actions I mean that should be

[54:07] obvious by now that if we looked at

[54:10] sacrifice we should be doing dharmic

[54:12] actions dharmic eating right that's one

[54:15] lakshmi you know dharmic noble action

[54:18] that's another lakshmi dharmic spreading

[54:21] of wealth to everyone that's another

[54:22] noble action so we should be doing good

[54:24] actions and if we are you're born in the

[54:27] world of the righteous.

[54:29] Ever wondered why some people are born

[54:31] with really bad parents and bad families

[54:35] and negativities, born with evil

[54:37] evildoers and and uh suffer accordingly.

[54:42] That that happens as much or more than

[54:45] having being born in a in a good

[54:46] prosperous family. But here's the next

[54:48] thing. Then they're born into the house

[54:50] of the pure and the prosperous.

[54:53] So you have to earn Lakshmi's wealth by

[54:57] following the dharma. Basically people

[54:59] who don't form the d follow the dharma

[55:01] dharma either have either have no wealth

[55:05] or they have wealth before they're ready

[55:06] for it. That's really the two rubs on

[55:09] the whole thing about lakshmi for the

[55:12] adharmic people. And then you see them

[55:14] doing enjoying themselves with that

[55:17] wealth and doing so much of evil actions

[55:19] with it. I'm not mentioning any names

[55:21] right now, but I know some are probably

[55:23] going through your heads in politics and

[55:26] science and so forth and in the near

[55:28] recent future and in the present right

[55:30] now using wealth in a way that's not

[55:33] dharmic and uh and and uh causing more

[55:37] karma to the world and to its living

[55:39] beings. That karma is being erased by

[55:43] Lakshmi if you follow her dharma. And

[55:44] this is what gets you free which is

[55:47] evidenced. Next the third level of birth

[55:50] is seeks acknowledge and is born into

[55:52] the family of yogis. So from good good

[55:56] moral ethical families dharmic families

[55:58] we'd like to call them born into the

[56:01] house of the pure and prosperous not

[56:02] just the prosperous the pure and

[56:04] prosperous. And then from there the next

[56:07] lifetime and this is following the

[56:09] thread of your yoga right because you

[56:12] haven't realized the otman with your you

[56:16] know with your uh good ethical family

[56:19] right we stand the risk of not realizing

[56:22] the otman in this lifetime because of

[56:24] our born even though we were born with

[56:26] good ethical people it takes more than

[56:28] just being born in a good ethical family

[56:32] takes more than morals and ethics to

[56:33] realize

[56:35] the self. That's the highest thing you

[56:37] can do here.

[56:39] But you're enjoying upon to do it. So

[56:41] then then so you go to a place of pure

[56:45] puress and prosperity where you have

[56:47] time on your hands and that in that way

[56:50] then you're able to spend more time in

[56:54] sodena

[56:55] spiritual practice meditation study

[56:58] press that s you know uh increase your

[57:02] bi to the lord do selfless actions

[57:06] um meditate all of those four yogas come

[57:10] to you and And that when you're not

[57:12] pressed upon by by by seeking of wealth

[57:15] by all means

[57:18] that's the third level. So this is how

[57:20] they strive for perfection and try and

[57:23] know him. A few of them do that. The

[57:26] next level is strives for higher

[57:28] knowledge among spiritual seekers. So um

[57:32] they are born in the family of yogis.

[57:34] But what did he say there? A a birth

[57:36] like this is difficult to attain in this

[57:39] world.

[57:40] I'm not reading all these quotes. You

[57:42] can do them later. But basically, that's

[57:45] one thing that he says about being born

[57:47] with yogis and yoginis because they're

[57:49] usually not having children. Yogis and

[57:52] yoginis are practicing yoga in the old

[57:54] style fashion anyway in India and

[57:56] they're getting off of the life wheel

[57:58] and uh they don't need children. They

[58:01] don't want them anymore. So if they do

[58:04] happen to them, they're going to be

[58:05] raising them dharmically. That's goes

[58:07] back a step. born with a pure and

[58:09] prosperous, right? Those people are

[58:11] ready to handle children and want them.

[58:14] U so basically you're you're going

[58:16] deeper and deeper into this level of um

[58:19] of the treasure of the oneness as we

[58:21] were saying yesterday.

[58:24] So when you strive for higher knowledge

[58:26] amongst people who are teaching it like

[58:28] fathers and mothers who are yogis and

[58:30] yoginis

[58:32] then you're among seek spiritual seekers

[58:34] and adeps and that's where holy com

[58:36] company called sadhu satsanga becomes

[58:39] available to you. We see so many people

[58:42] who are seeking knowledge but they don't

[58:44] have holy company. We saw so many people

[58:46] who have degrees, who have uh uh who

[58:50] have high position in society, but

[58:52] they've never attained holy company yet.

[58:55] You meet somebody like our birthday boy

[58:57] today, Lex Hixon, you know, who has

[58:59] passed away on on this day, um born on

[59:03] Christmas and passed away on All Saints

[59:06] Day. He was,

[59:09] you know, had all this wealth from two

[59:12] wealthy families, his own and the one he

[59:14] married into. and he practiced soda and

[59:16] then he went on uh seeking for the

[59:18] highest truth. So there you have that

[59:21] idea of uh getting holy company. He had

[59:24] it in spades. Boy did Mahalakshmi ever

[59:27] give him an abundance of family. You

[59:30] know Santana Lakshmi. She looked at him

[59:32] and said you're going to have it all.

[59:34] You're going to have a Sufi family.

[59:35] You're going to have a pedantic family.

[59:37] You're going to have a Buddhist family.

[59:38] I'll even give you a Zen Buddhist

[59:40] family.

[59:42] Yeah. So uh and I you'll have an eastern

[59:44] orthodox Christian family too. We know

[59:46] this about him. So that's abundance of

[59:49] mahalakshmi at the level of sana you

[59:52] know. Uh so uh that's a great example in

[59:57] our own time and life. The finally he

[1:00:00] says transcends rights and rituals and

[1:00:02] seeks after yoga.

[1:00:06] uh so and then ends up purifying the

[1:00:10] mind through many births and reaches

[1:00:11] perfection. So thus striving with

[1:00:14] assiduity that purified and purified

[1:00:18] over many births that being a reaches

[1:00:21] the goal supreme

[1:00:23] which takes us back up to the top quote

[1:00:25] there and he says further the one

[1:00:28] established in yogi yoga is deemed to be

[1:00:31] superior to aidics to men of knowledge

[1:00:35] and to those first in the performance of

[1:00:37] rights and rituals. Therefore, Arjuna

[1:00:40] he's talking to on the battlefield. Be

[1:00:42] thou a yogi.

[1:00:45] So, he's holding up this yogic lifestyle

[1:00:47] is the highest and best. And he he's not

[1:00:51] satisfied just to do that, but he's

[1:00:53] going to show you how it leads to the

[1:00:55] Lord in terms of the subject of rebirth.

[1:01:01] So, we need to be taking this on from a

[1:01:04] young age. We need to be our parents

[1:01:06] need to have gotten it. They need to

[1:01:07] have passed it to us. That's why India

[1:01:10] produced the Ram Krishnas and

[1:01:11] Vivicanandas that we're seeing nowadays.

[1:01:14] Neither of them who had families,

[1:01:17] children, bloodchild. They just had the

[1:01:19] world family

[1:01:21] and uh neither of them had any money.

[1:01:26] Chir Christian Vimand they were total

[1:01:29] acetics as far as that goes and there

[1:01:32] they were rich with everything that

[1:01:33] Lakshmi gives. Anyway, very beautiful to

[1:01:36] look at that. And uh that's even not all

[1:01:40] that I I had to show you about Santana

[1:01:43] Lux. She's getting most of the attention

[1:01:45] here. But basically, if we want to take

[1:01:48] a quick look at this, we'll round it

[1:01:51] out.

[1:01:52] And uh

[1:01:55] I thought of a way to teach this chart

[1:01:57] very quickly. Here's your pallet, right?

[1:02:00] You're an artist and you want to paint a

[1:02:02] lifetime. So what do you have as your

[1:02:05] materials? You have uh your pure will to

[1:02:09] do it to embody. You have cosmic wisdom

[1:02:12] given to you by your gurus and your

[1:02:15] rishies and all that. You have a clear

[1:02:18] mind to do it with. You have strong

[1:02:20] intention and resolve to be born in a

[1:02:22] good family and you have spiritual

[1:02:25] adeptship that you gained from previous

[1:02:28] practice. Right? do practice now so in

[1:02:32] the future you'll have everything that

[1:02:34] the great souls have that you don't have

[1:02:35] now. And finally, far-sightedness. You

[1:02:39] have this insight and this foresight in

[1:02:41] you. So if you have that pallet and you

[1:02:43] have a paintbrush and you're ready and

[1:02:45] you've got these canvases up here, then

[1:02:48] you can see what you can begin to do

[1:02:50] with them. Since we are at the bottom,

[1:02:52] let's start at the top. Attainment

[1:02:55] attain jven mukti in this last uh uh

[1:02:58] attaining jven mukti or liberation in a

[1:03:01] past lifetime.

[1:03:04] Selecting the country and culture of

[1:03:07] your choice.

[1:03:09] Assuming

[1:03:10] gender and physical body of your choice.

[1:03:15] Spiritual practice and attainment in

[1:03:17] previous lifetimes

[1:03:20] which I just mentioned. choosing dharmic

[1:03:23] parents praying to entering the room

[1:03:25] into the womb.

[1:03:27] You have all these things that you know

[1:03:30] allow you to do this right in your soul

[1:03:32] in your atman. So you just take them out

[1:03:34] and you start painting your country your

[1:03:37] life. I mean this is a Tibetan Buddhist

[1:03:39] teaching basically they're the most

[1:03:42] recent ones that have put this forth to

[1:03:43] us that you're you can hear about

[1:03:46] conscious birthing from birth and you

[1:03:48] know from Sri Krishna as we just looked

[1:03:50] at in the Gita but the Tibetans have

[1:03:52] come along later now and said well

[1:03:53] here's what you're actually doing or not

[1:03:56] doing when you're born consciously or

[1:03:59] not consciously and sometimes you're

[1:04:02] born unconsciously and you become

[1:04:03] conscious during your that lifetime and

[1:04:06] then you remember that you had parents

[1:04:08] before and children before and knowledge

[1:04:10] before and it's coming forward to you

[1:04:14] and that's an awakening. The spiritual

[1:04:16] awakenings is something that happened in

[1:04:18] a previous lifetime. Sometimes that

[1:04:20] happens to people. The mic veil just

[1:04:23] lifts and gets thinner and thinner as

[1:04:25] you get closer and closer to the goal

[1:04:27] through your spiritual practice.

[1:04:30] Choose dharmic parents. Then arrange

[1:04:32] life circumstances in order to

[1:04:34] neutralize your karma. Oh, I didn't do

[1:04:37] so well last lifetime. I didn't get

[1:04:40] moia. And you're looking back on your

[1:04:42] past lifetime from a disembodied state

[1:04:44] in your soul, in your mind soul,

[1:04:48] and you say, I want to go back and do

[1:04:49] that again and do better. So, what what

[1:04:52] tripped me up last time? Oh, I see that

[1:04:55] particular strand of karma that I

[1:04:56] followed that I should have neutralized.

[1:04:59] I'm going to have to go back and do some

[1:05:01] practice and neutralize that so it'll

[1:05:02] never bother me again and I can get free

[1:05:05] and get liberation in that very lifetime

[1:05:09] up here. Right back to Jven Mukta. You

[1:05:12] gain Jven Mukta in a previous lifetime

[1:05:18] experiencing a conscious death at the

[1:05:21] time at the end of your last lifetime is

[1:05:24] a great speaking about the Tibetan

[1:05:26] Buddhists. I learned that one from Jang

[1:05:28] Gong Kuru Rimpache when I was with him

[1:05:30] on Maui here island across the channel

[1:05:33] there talking about that a lot uh how

[1:05:37] you have to have that conscious death in

[1:05:39] order to get uh a conscious birth. So

[1:05:43] you want to do your practices and

[1:05:46] realize everything the great souls are

[1:05:48] telling you so you can become u you can

[1:05:51] gain victory over death.

[1:05:54] I have received a command from who? From

[1:05:59] the divine mother of the universe. What

[1:06:02] did she say? Death must die.

[1:06:05] On the battlefield of life, death must

[1:06:07] die. One of Ram Prasad's beautiful

[1:06:10] poems.

[1:06:12] Setting up manifestation of one's work

[1:06:15] and mission in life. There are people

[1:06:17] who have come here like say Swami

[1:06:18] Vivikananda. They didn't have anything

[1:06:20] to gain. Krishna said that too about his

[1:06:22] life. there's nothing more for me to

[1:06:24] have. Shiva is called up to common

[1:06:26] because he has no more desires. So these

[1:06:29] beings come and manifest themselves in

[1:06:31] bodies to help you realize that same

[1:06:34] free state that is as vivan say I want

[1:06:38] everyone to be free. Free is the air

[1:06:40] they be they breathe. Oh, excuse me. I

[1:06:43] mean you know attain realization that

[1:06:46] they're always free. He he he came back

[1:06:49] and and uh qualified that

[1:06:54] sincere comm compassion to all

[1:06:57] to help all beings gain that

[1:07:00] emancipation as I just said and then

[1:07:02] that nandal perspective that transforms

[1:07:05] all appearances into reality.

[1:07:09] It's just all mother. Now strip away the

[1:07:11] coverings. There she is behind

[1:07:13] everything,

[1:07:15] every object, every act, every word,

[1:07:18] every insight,

[1:07:20] every every aspect of space,

[1:07:24] every name, every form. There's just

[1:07:26] mother behind it. Mother, mother,

[1:07:28] mother, ma, ma, ma. The last words Sham

[1:07:31] Krishna said before he passed from the

[1:07:33] body. Ma ma, it's all mother.

[1:07:41] And speaking of that, in case we want a

[1:07:44] nice handy analogy to help us convince

[1:07:46] us of what Krishna just told us in this

[1:07:48] series of lifetimes and what this chart

[1:07:51] called the pallet of conscious future

[1:07:53] lives is telling us. Shamakrisha said,

[1:07:57] "The potter puts his pots in the sun to

[1:07:59] dry.

[1:08:01] Both the baked and unbaked ones.

[1:08:05] A cow happens to walk over them and

[1:08:07] break some of them. The baked pot shards

[1:08:10] that are broken he throws away. But the

[1:08:12] soft ones though broken he gathers up

[1:08:15] and shapes them into a lump. From this

[1:08:18] lump he forms new pots. In the same way

[1:08:21] so long as a man has not realized God he

[1:08:24] has to come back to this earth.

[1:08:27] So Shramak Krishna uses these great

[1:08:30] village scenes that he saw in his life.

[1:08:32] when he saw that happening and cows

[1:08:34] walking over pots and the pot are

[1:08:36] getting busy and working again, he well

[1:08:38] there they go again being reborn, right?

[1:08:41] Um but u you know hopefully you're one

[1:08:44] of the baked pots. The cow walks over

[1:08:48] you. The cow of death walks over and

[1:08:50] breaks you into shards. You'll never

[1:08:52] have to be reformed into a lump again.

[1:08:55] And that lump will not have to be a lump

[1:08:57] of flesh and bone. Because remember

[1:08:58] Buddha said, "I'm not going to build any

[1:09:00] more houses.

[1:09:02] Not of wood, not of stone, not of mud

[1:09:06] and straw, not of flesh and bones."

[1:09:09] Right? We just had the vi teaching here,

[1:09:12] right? That beautifully said trees,

[1:09:14] walks, plants, ethers, one's body,

[1:09:17] all of that has to be meditated upon.

[1:09:19] Why? So I'll never take it on again.

[1:09:22] that I'll never imagine myself falsely

[1:09:25] to be that body and those elements. That

[1:09:28] those are aspects in me, but they're not

[1:09:30] me.

[1:09:33] Um, so let's not come back into the

[1:09:37] potter's hands again, you know, not in

[1:09:40] not in ignorance. If we're be reformed

[1:09:42] at all, let's be reformed as a jan

[1:09:45] mukta. So I didn't know if I would

[1:09:48] finish all three charts under sunnalmi

[1:09:52] but I did and we still have time to look

[1:09:54] at mother's other two aspects. Let's go

[1:09:56] back to that

[1:09:59] kind of a tour to force on the eight

[1:10:03] mahalakshmies that we're getting here. I

[1:10:05] hope it's beneficial to everyone here

[1:10:08] and will be beneficial to everyone who

[1:10:10] sees it in the future with these through

[1:10:13] these videos. So the seventh mahalakshmi

[1:10:17] is the vijaya lakshmi. See there

[1:10:20] abundance of achievement. Who doesn't

[1:10:22] want that? I would say that

[1:10:26] she will grant you success in all

[1:10:28] endeavors. Um but as Krishna just told

[1:10:31] us there are very few people who come to

[1:10:34] know me. They all come to know um the

[1:10:38] world the five elements the body and

[1:10:40] they come to know their egos. We hope if

[1:10:43] they come to know their ego's good, then

[1:10:45] they'll know that they're not the ego.

[1:10:46] But if they if they propagate the ego,

[1:10:50] then that's going to be what comes back

[1:10:52] to be reborn and worked out again and

[1:10:54] again. So all of those things again to

[1:10:57] be meditated on to

[1:10:59] diminish their influence over your

[1:11:02] thinking mind

[1:11:04] so that those kinds of thoughts will not

[1:11:06] enter. And when they do enter, you'll

[1:11:08] reject them right away. No, I'm the

[1:11:10] atman. What are you talking about?

[1:11:12] That's nonsense.

[1:11:15] I'm not a body mind mechanism. I'm not a

[1:11:17] psychophysical being. I'm not the five

[1:11:19] elements. I'm not my thoughts.

[1:11:23] Those are all um uh uh

[1:11:27] right now belonging and in possession of

[1:11:29] the mind ego complex. I I renounce them.

[1:11:32] I'm the atman ever free and never bound.

[1:11:36] So, Bijay Lakmi uh wants you to

[1:11:39] celebrate that, you know. Vaya means

[1:11:41] just victory basically a Jai Jai where

[1:11:45] he's saying pujas and all of that. So

[1:11:49] the clip there says effort and victory

[1:11:52] free of pride conduc to the attainment

[1:11:55] of both earthly and spiritual welfare.

[1:11:59] Um as a quick aside

[1:12:02] and a conccommatant

[1:12:05] is that look straight? I don't know if

[1:12:07] this is going crooked or not but

[1:12:10] basically we have this teaching of the

[1:12:14] varn ashram. So if we look at Vijay

[1:12:17] Lakshmi and she's talking about um

[1:12:20] having victory and getting achievements

[1:12:24] then it has to be done in the dharma

[1:12:26] right and so that's why this chart is

[1:12:28] very good to take a glance at according

[1:12:31] to Hindu dharma and its practices and

[1:12:34] you can see of course hardly anyone

[1:12:36] better than Sriam to uh show to us the

[1:12:40] beauties of a perfect uh family life

[1:12:44] with Rah and Sitta uh uh being at the

[1:12:47] foundation of that and how they

[1:12:49] conducted themselves in life and uh all

[1:12:53] the achievements here shown in this

[1:12:55] image that were the main facets of of

[1:12:59] Sith Ram's beautiful divine dharmic

[1:13:02] life. So in the Bhagavad Gita it said he

[1:13:06] from whom this evolution of all beings

[1:13:09] by whom all this is pervaded

[1:13:12] worshshiping him with with his own duty

[1:13:14] mankind attains perfection

[1:13:18] and he goes on to say later that u

[1:13:22] better is one's own dharma

[1:13:24] though imperfect than the dharma of

[1:13:26] another well performed. So he really

[1:13:29] gives a very strong opinion about that.

[1:13:32] That one who fulfills the duty ordained

[1:13:34] by his own nature avoids all

[1:13:36] transgressions. So even if you're not

[1:13:39] given

[1:13:41] the best life and the best lot that you

[1:13:43] thought you should get, the the hand

[1:13:45] that you got dealt was not to your your

[1:13:48] liking. Like painting that palette we

[1:13:50] just looked at, right? You could have

[1:13:52] painted a better picture of yourself in

[1:13:54] life. uh even then you should go follow

[1:13:57] through with perseverance. That's one of

[1:14:00] the last lakshmi's courage,

[1:14:02] perseverance, right? You keep her there

[1:14:05] and you follow through and conduct

[1:14:07] everything and and complete it to the

[1:14:10] best of your ability. That's your own

[1:14:12] dharma. Um, but she comes to a

[1:14:14] conclusion in your life. Better that is

[1:14:17] much better than that. It's that

[1:14:18] borrowing the dharma of someone else and

[1:14:20] trying to complete it even though you

[1:14:23] got wealth, you got prosperity, you got

[1:14:26] success, you got fame and so forth.

[1:14:29] People are doing that all the time,

[1:14:31] riding in on the backs of others,

[1:14:33] climbing up the ladder on the backs of

[1:14:35] others. But that person who knows that

[1:14:37] they have a dharma to fulfill from their

[1:14:40] past lifetimes and they come here and

[1:14:42] fulfill it with inside of the dharma,

[1:14:45] that's what he's most concerned about

[1:14:47] here. when he gives this very um strong

[1:14:50] opinion about it all and you know we we

[1:14:53] know the teaching about the four the the

[1:14:55] varnisha and you can see it there from

[1:14:59] bottom to top you might say the sudras

[1:15:01] or the workers they do selfless action

[1:15:05] consisting of service to all casts and

[1:15:08] all classes in the duty of the sudra

[1:15:11] born of their own nature so they haven't

[1:15:13] been dealt the best hand workers they

[1:15:16] don't have a a lot of wealth. They don't

[1:15:18] have everything working out perfect in

[1:15:20] their lives. They hopefully are getting

[1:15:22] the the uh uh blessings of God, right?

[1:15:28] And and da Lakmi basically

[1:15:31] may we be protected from the powerful.

[1:15:35] They're they're serving the powerful yet

[1:15:37] they're getting spurned by the powerful.

[1:15:39] So it's a very difficult level at that

[1:15:41] level of the worker the sudra and the

[1:15:45] outcast and and lower the untouchable.

[1:15:48] So um that's um

[1:15:52] a contradiction that's

[1:15:55] would would be nice to be rectified in

[1:15:57] this world if we ever see that. Gandhi

[1:15:59] was trying to do that. Well, basically

[1:16:01] you have this

[1:16:03] selfless person who's serving everyone

[1:16:06] yet nobody's giving them their due. So

[1:16:09] it's very difficult position to hold and

[1:16:12] it's why Krishna is giving this

[1:16:13] teaching. This varnishama is very

[1:16:16] ancient and has been going on for a long

[1:16:19] time only fell from its high position

[1:16:22] and its order in more recent times

[1:16:26] which happens in every kalyuga

[1:16:29] and in the cycle. Uh next you would go

[1:16:32] to the vishas agriculture, cattle

[1:16:35] raising, business of trade, selling and

[1:16:37] earning based in honesty. These are some

[1:16:40] of the duties of the vicea born of their

[1:16:43] own nature. So that nature you're born

[1:16:45] into, you're completing the the karma

[1:16:49] that's um connected to it. The you know

[1:16:52] the viais of it, the connections to it,

[1:16:55] you're completing that. And um these

[1:16:59] particular beings are definitely going

[1:17:00] to want the blessings of uh the goddess

[1:17:03] of agriculture, right? Food and so

[1:17:07] forth. when they plant their gardens,

[1:17:09] they're chanting the mantra of a goddess

[1:17:12] of harvests. Um that's that's done now

[1:17:16] even now in India by the farmers. They

[1:17:18] don't just go out there and say how much

[1:17:20] money can I make on this much acreage

[1:17:22] growing these kinds of plants and how

[1:17:25] much money can I save by not doing that

[1:17:27] and so forth. They're going out there

[1:17:28] and saying, you know, saying the mantra

[1:17:31] deluxe and saying, "May the harvest be

[1:17:32] fruitful, oh mother, and may it benefit

[1:17:35] all beings." What happened to that

[1:17:37] thought, you know, in our I guess

[1:17:39] otherwise, isn't it going to if you go

[1:17:41] out there in any other mindset, isn't it

[1:17:43] going to put

[1:17:45] an uh corruption in the food? Didn't we

[1:17:49] just say that last week? That pride in

[1:17:52] that field is got a defect in it before

[1:17:55] it even gets picked, before it even gets

[1:17:57] to the chef, before it gets to your

[1:17:59] table. Because someone stood there

[1:18:01] thinking that way about the whole field,

[1:18:03] right?

[1:18:05] I'll talk about your the depth of

[1:18:07] conscious living and what you have to do

[1:18:09] to be dharmic. Um something that needs

[1:18:12] to be looked at very deeply and for a

[1:18:15] long time by uh particularly by western

[1:18:18] cultures now as some of this ancient Vic

[1:18:21] wisdom and yogic practice sumpkick u

[1:18:26] cosmology

[1:18:27] and tantric worship gets into our

[1:18:30] culture by degrees.

[1:18:36] The chatrias are next. Heroism, vigor,

[1:18:39] firmness, resourcefulness, fearlessness

[1:18:42] during encounters, generosity, and

[1:18:45] lordliness are the qualities of the

[1:18:46] chhatrias. You're going to want to have

[1:18:49] some of these lakshmies on your side. If

[1:18:51] you're a warrior of a warrior class or

[1:18:54] cast, you can see how deep the dharma

[1:18:58] glows and how far the via and

[1:19:01] connections extend themselves

[1:19:03] inside of just a study of eight things

[1:19:06] that the goddess

[1:19:08] events for you. She exemplifies these

[1:19:11] things for everyone. You have to go back

[1:19:13] and study her.

[1:19:16] Wherever you find any goddess in our

[1:19:18] cultures in the west, where is the

[1:19:19] goddess? How can I go follow her? Who is

[1:19:23] she? Does she even exist? Nobody likes

[1:19:25] her.

[1:19:27] Even the women get the worst of of the

[1:19:29] world. So, you know, where's the goddess

[1:19:31] in all this? Oh, you go to India and

[1:19:33] she's all there is. You don't even have

[1:19:36] to scratch the surface very far to find

[1:19:41] Rama loving Sitta Krishna worshiping

[1:19:43] Raja. And Ramach Krishna is saying that

[1:19:45] shard is so powerful that she's the

[1:19:47] power and I can't even lift my own

[1:19:49] finger without her. So the goddess is

[1:19:51] there in everything and everywhere.

[1:19:54] She's in everything but she's not an

[1:19:56] object. She's everywhere but she

[1:19:59] transcends space

[1:20:01] and uh

[1:20:05] and she's uh permeating everything

[1:20:09] without being a form they say. So she is

[1:20:13] rather hard to find. So that's why all

[1:20:17] the more reason why we need to

[1:20:19] definitely scratch the surface of uh of

[1:20:22] some lack of goddess worship here and

[1:20:25] look at a teaching like this in the

[1:20:27] west.

[1:20:29] If kie frightens you and Sarati's behind

[1:20:33] beyond the can of your understanding,

[1:20:36] you don't have wisdom words and music

[1:20:38] and things in you. There she is.

[1:20:42] conducting everything in your life

[1:20:46] and the Brahmanas should know this. So

[1:20:48] if we go up to the final end of this

[1:20:50] teaching we uh connection to to uh

[1:20:55] Vijaya Lakshmi we're talking about then

[1:20:57] you can see that quote serenity

[1:20:59] self-restraint austerity purity

[1:21:02] forgiveness uprightness knowledge

[1:21:04] realization perception of what is and

[1:21:08] what is beyond life and death. These are

[1:21:10] qualities of the Brahmanas. Wow. That's

[1:21:14] I mean you see thehatrias and the

[1:21:15] Brahmanas have a lot of qualities that

[1:21:18] they've been given by the grace of

[1:21:20] Maharalakshmi. They have an abundance of

[1:21:23] everything and uh you know the the

[1:21:25] shudras don't have that abundance of

[1:21:27] wealth but the merchants do. They have

[1:21:30] an abundance of wealth. Usually they're

[1:21:32] successful. So this goddess of

[1:21:35] achievement, we just talked about this

[1:21:38] the goddess of food and pride, we talked

[1:21:40] about the goddess of of um being ready

[1:21:45] for any kind of challenges and trials

[1:21:47] and she'll sustain you through them if

[1:21:49] you persevere. All these goddesses when

[1:21:51] you look at them are are um so

[1:21:54] beneficial and worthy of your worship.

[1:21:58] um not not just on the merit alone of

[1:22:01] that you want to get things because

[1:22:02] that's sometimes a misrepresent

[1:22:05] misrepresentation of of what Lock me and

[1:22:07] who she really is but just because you

[1:22:11] want to be in harmony like this family

[1:22:13] you want to have a family that's always

[1:22:15] in harmony and doesn't have the problems

[1:22:17] of dysfunctional problems that are in

[1:22:19] the world I want to have a shakti

[1:22:22] relationship which is the essential u uh

[1:22:26] and pure a gender idea in India. If it's

[1:22:30] not the one, it's the two. If it has to

[1:22:32] come to the two, it's going to be Shiva

[1:22:33] and Shakti and they're going to get

[1:22:35] along perfectly and conduct matters um

[1:22:39] with like the rishies of India did with

[1:22:41] these great families that you look back

[1:22:44] on say what did my child do? A child

[1:22:47] wrote it wrote an aanad.

[1:22:50] What did that do? It liberated thousands

[1:22:53] of people and is still doing that now.

[1:22:57] millennia after my birth, right?

[1:23:09] Let's use the remain remaining minutes

[1:23:11] then to look at the final Lakshmi

[1:23:13] because we will we will arrive there.

[1:23:16] Uh and you know it's not like next week

[1:23:19] we can't continue this on a little bit

[1:23:21] about Lakshmi because it's Kali Puja and

[1:23:24] we'll be talking about her divine

[1:23:26] missiles. Uh but um it's not like we

[1:23:30] have to so you know be so um niggerly

[1:23:34] with our time you know we can we can

[1:23:37] give a little bit more attention to

[1:23:41] Vijay Lakmi because she's definitely a

[1:23:43] very powerful and final aspect of

[1:23:45] Mahalakshmi says there wisdom leading to

[1:23:48] higher truth

[1:23:50] based in intellectual growth and

[1:23:52] spiritual practice

[1:23:54] refineses awareness and you see the open

[1:23:57] book there as sort of her symbol. So

[1:24:00] each one of these has a symbol which is

[1:24:02] very nice. So that uh higher truth based

[1:24:06] on growth of the intellect and not just

[1:24:10] in lower lower knowledge because the

[1:24:12] intellect can grow in that but it has to

[1:24:15] be focused on that pressing the soma

[1:24:18] idea. So you want to be able to to take

[1:24:21] the wisdoms of of the rishies and the

[1:24:23] uponads. Take the wisdom of Shiva

[1:24:27] amongst the gods and goddesses. take the

[1:24:29] wisdom of

[1:24:31] your gurus, your spiritual perceptions

[1:24:33] that you met in your lifetimes and press

[1:24:37] it, you know, and come to that higher

[1:24:38] intellectual understanding

[1:24:40] um which is, you know, which goes beyond

[1:24:44] just um apara vija they call it in India

[1:24:47] and takes you to par vija. So that's why

[1:24:50] I brought this chart as a quick capper

[1:24:53] on the eight mahalakshmies

[1:24:56] that talks a little bit more about Fiji

[1:24:58] Lakshmi,

[1:25:00] the abundance of wisdom.

[1:25:03] Isn't that beautiful? That when you look

[1:25:05] at Lakshmi, you think wealth and you

[1:25:07] look at Sarati, you think wisdom. But if

[1:25:12] you look at them both at once and put

[1:25:13] them together, then you've got an

[1:25:14] abundance of wisdom.

[1:25:17] And so that's how um uh liberation is

[1:25:22] gained.

[1:25:23] Higher higher insight and understanding

[1:25:25] is gained by that precious commodity

[1:25:28] called ghana. Ganam atmaagan knowledge

[1:25:32] of your true self. I and my father are

[1:25:34] one kind of knowledge. Um in India then

[1:25:38] you could say that if you went to Vija

[1:25:41] Lakshmi and she wanted to show you the

[1:25:44] connections and how to grow

[1:25:46] intellectually then they would probably

[1:25:48] point you out if they were uh if they

[1:25:52] were really following the teachings of

[1:25:54] the ancient rishies like copula of sanka

[1:25:58] patanuli of yoga vavas of vadanta right

[1:26:02] so that's what these three this triple

[1:26:04] gem here is the three great philosophy

[1:26:06] ical footfalls of India.

[1:26:09] Centuries and millennia will come and go

[1:26:11] as India's sacred philosophical systems

[1:26:13] dissolve and reemerge continually. But

[1:26:17] these quantum leaps and spans of time

[1:26:21] never erode the intrinsic connections

[1:26:24] that bind these eternal daras fast into

[1:26:27] one inseparable and indestructible truth

[1:26:31] principle.

[1:26:33] So the aeri connections have been a big

[1:26:35] part of this teaching and here they are

[1:26:37] again you you have to um approach the

[1:26:41] lord of copula of of of sanka and say oh

[1:26:45] lord copula give me your wisdom what'll

[1:26:48] he do for you there you see he'll tell

[1:26:50] you about the 24 cosmic principles and

[1:26:52] you're walking the path now of ska

[1:26:55] inside the mind

[1:26:57] the next thing you'll find is there are

[1:27:00] eightfold powers

[1:27:02] Next thing you'll find is there's dar

[1:27:05] dar mula mula arta there are 10

[1:27:09] different uh teachings to get there then

[1:27:12] tvidya

[1:27:13] uh band mosha there are u

[1:27:18] three kinds of bondage and three kinds

[1:27:20] of liberation that's a beautiful

[1:27:22] teaching that comes from lord copula and

[1:27:25] sia

[1:27:27] nvada there are nine complacencies that

[1:27:31] you have to kind of examine and watch

[1:27:33] out for. And finally, yay, you know, so

[1:27:37] ancient with Lord Copula, it's why

[1:27:38] Krishna says of these great sages, uh,

[1:27:42] you know, I am copula

[1:27:44] triuna, right? He brought out the three

[1:27:47] gona teaching from the from the ancient

[1:27:50] scriptures and placed them in a context

[1:27:52] that we could that Patansi later in yoga

[1:27:56] could uh and vivas later in vant could

[1:27:58] make prominent for us in this day and

[1:28:00] age which right now is one of the

[1:28:03] greatest ways of um helping our mind get

[1:28:06] over its its imbalances. Oh there's the

[1:28:09] goona right the minute you become aware

[1:28:12] of the changes of your mind. Holy mother

[1:28:14] said then you become aware that that the

[1:28:16] mind is still under control of damas or

[1:28:20] sometimes rajas or sometimes sattva and

[1:28:23] pretty soon you're smoothing out all

[1:28:24] three and staying in sattva and that

[1:28:27] gets absorbed in pure sattva and you you

[1:28:30] go beyond triuna triunam you go beyond

[1:28:37] trunatita

[1:28:40] you go beyond the three goonas which is

[1:28:42] one of the names of Sharamak Krishna's

[1:28:44] great disciples.

[1:28:46] So that's all what we mean by taking to

[1:28:52] Vigilakshmi.

[1:28:54] Um you can't stand and complain in front

[1:28:57] of her and say I don't have any

[1:28:58] teachings. Oh well here take this trip.

[1:29:01] It's called sa yoga. Let's study it

[1:29:04] together. Let's press the soma from it.

[1:29:06] Right?

[1:29:08] Secondly then you see there's uh

[1:29:11] patanjula or patanula is a name for

[1:29:14] yoga. You see there's another pathway to

[1:29:16] follow which vijaya lakshmi is I'm sorry

[1:29:20] vigil is saying here take this path next

[1:29:24] and connect that 24 cosmic principle

[1:29:27] teaching you just got with all its

[1:29:29] facets to the practice of yoga. If

[1:29:32] you've managed to to see the goonas and

[1:29:35] get control of them, you're fit for

[1:29:37] yoga. So what does he give you first? U

[1:29:40] everything that Copula gave you as 24

[1:29:43] cosmic principles he gives you as

[1:29:44] alamanas.

[1:29:46] That's called alana yoga. So basically

[1:29:49] you're going to want to meditate on air,

[1:29:52] earth, fire, water and ether, seeing,

[1:29:54] tasting, touching, hearing, smelling,

[1:29:56] the five ton mantras, the five subtle

[1:29:58] senses

[1:30:00] and compare them all to your waking,

[1:30:02] dreaming and deep sleep state. So

[1:30:05] already patani is beginning to lean

[1:30:07] towards vanta when it does that

[1:30:11] only the alana is becoming a bit more

[1:30:14] refined in vant isn't it your ishum

[1:30:19] now you understand 24 cosmic principles

[1:30:21] and their their order and everything and

[1:30:24] how to practice them and get beyond them

[1:30:28] then you're ready to come before the

[1:30:30] form of lord and said I've accomplished

[1:30:31] that and uh And uh Vijay Lakshmi just

[1:30:36] told me I can get the highest truth from

[1:30:38] you now. Right. She's giving me

[1:30:41] abundance of truth.

[1:30:44] I want to be infinitely wealthy in the

[1:30:48] realm of spirituality.

[1:30:50] Ram Prasad sings in one of his songs.

[1:30:55] Well, beyond the alambanas, yes, it does

[1:30:58] connect to ashtanga eight limbs. Don't

[1:31:01] restrict it to just limb three and four

[1:31:03] please. It's not a hot the prana thing.

[1:31:06] This is the whole shooting match that

[1:31:08] will that will purify your whole system

[1:31:12] as that what this is what Lakshmi wants.

[1:31:15] Just like you don't want to restrict

[1:31:16] everything just to gaining wealth, lands

[1:31:18] and riches and all that. They also don't

[1:31:21] want to in yoga restrict it just to a

[1:31:23] body and breath. It's got to go much

[1:31:26] beyond that. In fact, it has to start

[1:31:27] with the yamas and nyamas which are now

[1:31:30] kind of in question in western cultures

[1:31:35] right from the very beginning. Aimsa

[1:31:38] nonviolence

[1:31:39] we have to look very seriously at

[1:31:41] nonviolence when all the wars are going

[1:31:43] on.

[1:31:45] So you're up the steps there and you're

[1:31:47] going on towards sa vigana right those

[1:31:49] are the seven great stages of knowledge

[1:31:51] which are where you're finding them

[1:31:54] inside of you by degrees there are seven

[1:31:57] lower and there are seven higher

[1:31:58] actually these are the seven higher ones

[1:32:02] and then you find the nine entouas that

[1:32:04] are trying to keep you from attaining

[1:32:08] that highest truth

[1:32:11] and uh at that point then you're you're

[1:32:13] well launched on the path of yoga You

[1:32:15] can see all of these paths leading to

[1:32:17] the highest mountains in the distance.

[1:32:21] And uh with the few minutes have we've

[1:32:25] gone over we'll take the last two

[1:32:27] minutes just to complete this because

[1:32:29] all of this leads to the beautiful and

[1:32:31] blessed path of adanta which is very

[1:32:34] universal in this time. Anyone can

[1:32:36] follow it. It's not even just purely

[1:32:39] Hindu anymore. Although I would say you

[1:32:41] can't take the Hindu out of it. Uh

[1:32:43] because you know this has come from a

[1:32:45] long time in mother India. M divine

[1:32:48] mother herself has been in India all

[1:32:51] this time whereas we haven't found her

[1:32:53] in other traditions very readily at all.

[1:32:56] So you can see there Vanta wants you to

[1:32:58] start out you know with a condensation

[1:33:01] of what Sia was giving you right uh and

[1:33:06] u by by

[1:33:09] condensing them all into you know your

[1:33:11] your koshas

[1:33:13] is your the five elements five senses

[1:33:15] and all of that and the inner senses and

[1:33:18] all that began to come straight across

[1:33:21] to the anamaya kosha the pranomaya kosha

[1:33:24] the monomaya kosha the began kosha and

[1:33:27] the nandanda mayak kosha five koshas. So

[1:33:31] that's how vant is going to consolidate

[1:33:33] all of this you learned in san yoga

[1:33:36] which is cosmology and practice and then

[1:33:38] turn it into realization. So you can

[1:33:40] look at everything and say, "Oh, I

[1:33:42] already know that. Here I am in a body.

[1:33:44] I know I'm not a body. Here I am with

[1:33:46] energy. I know I'm not energy. Here I am

[1:33:48] with the mind. I know I'm not the mind.

[1:33:50] Here I am with the intellect,

[1:33:53] but I know the intellect has to be

[1:33:55] expanded.

[1:33:56] And here I am with bliss, you know, my

[1:33:59] true self, the

[1:34:03] soant's

[1:34:04] cutting very high, starting the very

[1:34:06] high step. You can see next it wants you

[1:34:08] to do the four kinds of uh realize the

[1:34:12] four kinds of treasures in you and you

[1:34:15] know practice uh discrimination,

[1:34:17] detachment

[1:34:19] and inner peace, self-control and so

[1:34:21] forth. You have all of those in your

[1:34:23] mind because we've we've studied them so

[1:34:26] much before. And then just like yoga is

[1:34:29] taking the sapa vigana bumikas and

[1:34:32] telling you in vidanta they appear as

[1:34:35] they're called sa they're called

[1:34:37] sapagana chakshu a way of seeing ganam

[1:34:41] the third eye opens and you see this

[1:34:43] ganam is existing in you it's just like

[1:34:46] you're looking out from a high a high

[1:34:49] plateau and you can see everything down

[1:34:51] below you when the third eye opens

[1:34:53] Krishna says that when that eye opens

[1:34:56] you see everything and you see the lord

[1:34:57] Lord coming and going from place to

[1:34:59] place in many bodies. Very beautiful

[1:35:02] descriptions of it in the Gita.

[1:35:09] Ganachak shushah he says uh that

[1:35:13] ganachak shushaha the third eye has to

[1:35:16] open

[1:35:17] and then he says there are five elements

[1:35:19] and essential facts of non-dual

[1:35:21] philosophy come to the four in vdanta

[1:35:24] and get get studied and realized that's

[1:35:27] where one two three four leads from uh

[1:35:32] uh leads to advite

[1:35:36] the capper of it all the foundation

[1:35:38] underneath it all. It's both the

[1:35:39] foundation and the top of of the

[1:35:42] mountain includes everything and that

[1:35:45] gives you that essential non-dual wisdom

[1:35:48] that will lead to mokia from dharma. So

[1:35:52] how mahalakshmi then uh in eight aspects

[1:35:57] gives us this beautiful uh path of the

[1:36:00] goddess uh which

[1:36:04] happens to fall particularly under the

[1:36:07] important opus opus that I talked about

[1:36:10] starting out this class of your material

[1:36:14] uh abundance and your spiritual

[1:36:16] abundance both taken as important side

[1:36:20] by side That's what we need to do with

[1:36:23] the teachings that the the goddess has

[1:36:25] given us. So we went a little over but

[1:36:29] we did get uh to see everything that I

[1:36:32] had planned for this class and we'll go

[1:36:34] on towards next Sunday's Mahakali class

[1:36:37] since this Ki's birthday. So beautiful

[1:36:40] Navaratri first then Mahalakshmi then

[1:36:43] Kali then Jagadatri the holder of the

[1:36:46] world. That's all what you're having

[1:36:48] here with SRV in this month of Sundays

[1:36:52] on under the great umbrella of advite

[1:37:34] Rock team.

[1:37:54] Sh.

[1:38:09] Oh mother, supreme in human form,

[1:38:13] grant her of boounds and of bliss.

[1:38:16] distress of our souls. Remove us thou

[1:38:20] and givest us contentment and peace.

[1:38:24] For I for thine is the only ship that

[1:38:28] can ferry across this earthly sea.

[1:38:31] Oh great mother of the worlds,

[1:38:34] be our salutations ever unto thee.

[1:38:42] Oh

[1:38:44] shanty

[1:38:46] shanty

[1:38:48] shanty

[1:38:52] har

The class presents the eight Mahalakshmis as aspects of the goddess who tend to material and spiritual well-being. The excerpt reviews the first four, beginning with Adilakshmi, who represents spiritual abundance, and the remaining aspects are covered in later sessions not included in this excerpt.
The teacher argues that a restless mind lets wealth slip away, comparing it to water running through the fingers or trying to hold air. Peace of mind gives an open-minded, open-handed approach that lets abundance be received without clutching.
Classical renderings group the three as the great goddesses, sometimes called 'tree.' The teacher says naming one does not exclude the others, and that they are one goddess appearing in different aspects tied to liberation, wisdom and material and spiritual wealth.
The teacher quotes the idea, attributed to Vivekananda, that wisdom and knowledge cannot be taught to someone who is hungry. The class argues that basic needs being met comes before the higher aims of life, including liberation.
In the class, abhyudaya is treated as a principle of flourishing and altruism, the idea that wealth should be shared as a matter of natural balance rather than only fairness. The teacher distinguishes altruism as a practice from a deeper natural harmony in which greed and grasping have been overcome.
The teacher cites the Upanishadic idea that the true self is not the agent of action, and that the sense of being a doer belongs to the ego. The teacher connects this to karma yoga, acting without attachment to results.
No. The teacher explicitly rejects the narrow idea of Lakshmi as wealth alone and presents the goddess as caring for spiritual, material, intellectual and psychological well-being together.
