Grace Note Digestion: Crystal Bowls & the Cephalic Phase

There is a moment in music so small it often goes unnoticed—yet without it, the melody never lands the same way. In a score, a grace note appears as a tiny symbol, printed small, easy to miss. But composers know its power: it's the subtle texture played just before the main note arrives, reshaping how that arrival feels. A grace note is not the melody itself. It's the pause, the breath, the preparation.

Your digestion works on nearly identical timing. The moment your body senses nourishment is coming—the smell of food, the sight of a plate, the anticipation of eating—it begins preparing. Long before the first bite enters your mouth, your stomach is already secreting acids, your mouth is watering, your whole system is tuning itself to receive. This is the cephalic phase of digestion, and it is, in essence, your body's grace note.

What Is the Cephalic Phase?

Digestion does not begin when you swallow. It begins the moment your senses signal that food is arriving. The cephalic phase is that first stage—triggered by sight, smell, taste anticipation, even memory—where your brain tells your body to prepare for nourishment. "Your body actually starts preparing for whatever is coming the moment it senses it's coming," as Charleene Closshey explains in her live sound ritual. When you smell dinner cooking on the stove, your mouth waters before you've taken a bite. When you hear a loved one's footsteps at the door, your chest lifts. When tension rises in your shoulders at the first ring of a phone, your body has already shifted into a state of alert. These are all anticipatory responses—your nervous system reading the environment and preparing accordingly.

The science is clear: the cephalic phase accounts for up to 30% of total digestive secretion. If you eat while stressed, rushed, or disconnected from the experience of eating, you are not simply digesting food—you are digesting your environment. Your sympathetic nervous system (the fight-or-flight state) suppresses digestive function. Stomach acid production drops. Nutrient absorption decreases. The very act of rushing through a meal, skipping the grace note, costs your body real nourishment.

Why Digestion Starts in the Brain

The digestive system is not an isolated mechanism. It is deeply wired to your nervous system, which is itself wired to your sensory experience and your emotional state. When you anticipate food, your vagus nerve—the primary nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system—signals your digestive organs to activate. Your stomach lining thickens. Digestive enzymes are mobilized. Blood flow increases to your gut. This is not a small shift; it is a fundamental change in how your body receives and processes what you consume.

Conversely, when you eat while your nervous system is in a stressed or reactive state, your body prioritizes survival responses over digestion. The vagus nerve tone weakens. Stomach acid production falters. The muscles of your digestive tract may tense rather than relax and move food along. You can eat the most nutrient-dense meal in the world, but if your nervous system is not in a receptive state, your body cannot fully access that nourishment.

This is why the pause matters. The grace note is not wasted time. It is the prerequisite for genuine nourishment.

The Grace Note as Ritual

In music, a grace note is subtle enough that if played well, you might never consciously notice it—but you absolutely feel its effect. The same applies to the eating experience. Closshey proposes a simple, three-minute pause to be taken at any table, with any meal: the grace note practice.

The ritual begins before the meal arrives or is lifted to the lips. It is a deliberate shift from the pace of the day into a state of receptivity. You settle into your seat. You notice your breath. You ground your attention into your body. You may place your hands in a specific mudra—palms facing upward, perhaps resting on your thighs—a gesture that signals openness to receive. This is not mere sentiment. The physical posture of receptivity, combined with conscious breath and grounding, sends a signal through your nervous system: slow down, receive, digest.

You then engage your senses. If you have tea or a warm beverage, you smell it. You notice the warmth of the cup in your hands. You observe the color and texture of the food. You allow your senses to do what they are designed to do: prepare your whole system for nourishment. This is the grace note in action—a small, deliberate pause that changes how everything that follows lands.

The Full Moon in Taurus and Physical Nourishment

The live session took place under a Full Moon in Taurus—a detail that Closshey weaves into the teaching with intention. In astrology, Taurus governs the physical senses, material embodiment, and the body's capacity to be nourished. Taurus invites slowness, sensuality, and presence in the body. It is the sign that understands that nourishment is not merely nutritional; it is sensory, embodied, felt.

This timing underscores the theme of the session: in a world that constantly demands speed and productivity, Taurus calls us back to the body, to the senses, to the luxurious act of receiving. The grace note, after all, is not about efficiency. It is about feeling. It is about allowing the arrival to become part of you, rather than simply passing through you.

Crystal Singing Bowls and Nervous System Attunement

Closshey works with 21 chromatically tuned quartz crystal singing bowls, each resonating at a specific frequency. The bowls serve not as background music but as an active tool for nervous system regulation. The resonance of sound—particularly the frequencies produced by crystal bowls—can influence brainwave states, heart rate variability, and vagal tone.

In the session, Closshey notes how the bowls shifted from E flat and B flat (keys associated with love, devotion, and aspiration) to D major and D minor (frequencies that carry what she describes as "triumphant melancholy"). The bowls are not arbitrary; they are tuned to support a specific journey of inner reconnection. As they resonate, they create a sonic field that invites the nervous system into parasympathetic activation—the state necessary for genuine digestion and nourishment to occur.

The power of this is not metaphorical. Sound vibration, when sustained at specific frequencies, has measurable effects on heart rate, blood pressure, and stress hormone levels. A 2006 study cited in clinical literature found that when people listened to relaxing music before a surgical procedure, their anxiety levels decreased more than in those who received standard pre-operative counseling alone. The bowls, then, are not decoration. They are an active medicine for the nervous system—creating the exact neurological conditions in which the grace note can be received.

Silence as Medicine

Equally important as the sound is the silence that follows. The session deliberately integrates what Closshey calls "the power of deliberate silence." After the bowls carry the listener into a state of deep receptivity, the silence allows that state to settle and integrate into the body. Silence is not empty; it is pregnant with the resonance that preceded it. The nervous system continues to rest, to recalibrate, to access the parasympathetic activation that the sound initiated.

Many traditions understand silence not as the absence of sound but as its deepest expression. In that silence, integration happens. The body consolidates what it has received. This is where the real work of nourishment begins—not in the sensory stimulation, but in the integration that follows.

Bringing the Grace Note to Your Table

The grace note practice requires no special equipment, no crystal bowls, no full moon timing—though these can deepen the experience. At its core, it is a decision to pause before arrival. Before the first bite, before the first sip, you pause. You ground. You feel. You smell. You notice. You allow your body's anticipatory systems to activate in a state of safety and receptivity, rather than stress and urgency.

This three-minute pause can be taken to any table, with any meal. It costs nothing but time—time that, paradoxically, enriches every moment that follows. Because when you honor the grace note, the nourishment that arrives is not just received by your digestive system; it is felt by your whole being. The meal becomes an act of genuine reception rather than consumption. Your body enters the state it needs to truly extract and integrate the nutrients, the pleasure, the care that the food offers.

In a world that demands speed, that valorizes productivity and efficiency, the grace note is a small rebellion. It is an insistence that how you arrive matters. That the pause before the moment is not wasted time but the very thing that makes the moment land as nourishment rather than mere fuel.

Where to Go From Here

If this teaching resonates, the next practice is simple: take the three-minute grace note pause at your next meal. Ground your attention into your body. Engage your senses. Feel the shift in your nervous system as it moves from reactivity into receptivity. Notice how differently the meal tastes, how differently your body digests, when you have honored the arrival with presence. This is the grace note in action—not heard, but felt, and absolutely transformative in how everything that follows lands.

[1:21] joining us. It's so good to be with you.

[1:26] The bowls are very dreamy today. very

[1:28] they feel very sensual and it makes

[1:30] sense.

[1:37] where you're joining us from.

[1:40] Drop a hello in the chat. Tell me your

[1:42] location. If it's your first time here,

[1:45] welcome. We like to take a few minutes

[1:47] at the very top and talk and reconnect

[1:52] and literally get in the same vibe,

[1:56] which is a very interesting vibe today

[1:58] indeed. Good morning, Gail. So good to

[2:35] doing so well. Jane with a Y, good to

[2:38] see you. Good morning. Joins us from the

[2:41] West Coast. Haven't seen you in a while,

[2:43] my friend. It's [music] a delight to see

[2:45] your name and feel your presence. Lori

[2:48] from Madison, Wisconsin.

[2:50] How you doing? Delighted you're here.

[2:53] Hey, Maximus.

[2:56] Good to see you. I like your wave. I'm

[2:58] waving back. Only have a couple hands to

[3:00] do that though. They're kind of

[3:02] occupied. I was an octopus.

[3:05] [laughter]

[3:06] My friends, if this is your first time

[3:07] here, welcome. I'm Charlene [music] and

[3:09] in front of you are 21

[3:12] chromatically tuned quartz crystal

[3:14] singing bowls. If you wondered why I

[3:15] paused and looked back, it's because we

[3:17] are constantly changing the bowls on

[3:19] this set. We switch notes in and out.

[3:22] So, we range anywhere between 19 and 22.

[3:25] I think today we're sitting at a pretty

[3:27] 21. It's like a weather forecast. What's

[3:29] in the What's the forecast for the Bulls

[3:31] today? Well, the Bulls say. [laughter]

[3:33] Speaking of forecast, one of the things

[3:36] that we like to do is we like to look to

[3:38] the sky.

[3:39] Not just because it's pretty and

[3:41] beautiful, but because it's a carrier of

[3:43] information. So, the moon today is

[3:46] sitting so beautifully above us. It's a

[3:49] Taurus full moon. Taurus is that very

[3:52] earthy, sensual, experiential sort of

[3:55] sign. In fact, Jeremy took this picture

[3:57] this morning, popped out back. The moon

[4:01] was hanging low behind our house. It was

[4:05] over a lake. Just beautiful. I thought

[4:08] he'd share that with you. Yeah. So

[4:11] stunning. I walked out, I was like,

[4:14] "That's really pretty, honey."

[4:16] [laughter]

[4:19] So,

[4:21] wow.

[4:26] Everything around us is based on a

[4:28] series of patterns. When we rec

[4:30] recognize those patterns, we can begin

[4:31] to understand them and then replicate

[4:33] them in a way that's beneficial not only

[4:35] to our bodies but to our life in

[4:37] general.

[4:39] And sometimes we're asked, summoned,

[4:41] invited, demanded,

[4:45] politely suggested [music]

[4:47] to pause. And that's exactly what we are

[4:50] doing today. And I share that because

[4:52] right now the bulls are actually asking

[4:54] me to pause for a moment. They have

[4:56] completely shifted trajectory. When we

[4:58] started we were shifting between this

[5:00] beautiful E flat B flat very um

[5:06] hopeful keys in classical music. B flat

[5:10] especially a B flat major connects us at

[5:13] the to this cheerfulness

[5:16] uh an aspiration for a better world. We

[5:21] kind of feel that running through B flat

[5:23] and E flat which is love and devotion.

[5:25] It's a very intimate [music]

[5:26] conversation. A lot of times you can

[5:28] begin to feel or sense especially with

[5:30] the divine.

[5:34] But now we've [music] shifted and now

[5:36] we're sitting very squarely

[5:38] the fundamental resonance of D.

[5:44] There is a

[5:46] triumphant melancholy

[5:50] that will frequently arise if we work

[5:53] with the fundamental tones of D major or

[5:56] D minor. And we'll talk all about that

[5:59] later. None of that matters. But the

[6:02] [music] point is is that sometimes when

[6:04] we are invited to shift,

[6:07] the shift is for

[6:09] us, for our betterment.

[6:13] So, whatever you're beginning to shift

[6:15] or settle into

[6:17] to defining your space right now, I

[6:20] invite you just to continue to do that.

[6:21] Some of you are already beginning to

[6:22] settle very deeply. I can feel that.

[6:25] [gasps]

[6:26] If that feels good to your body, go for

[6:28] it. If it's your first time here, again,

[6:31] welcome. I'm Charlene. And these bowls

[6:35] will take us today on a journey, a

[6:37] journey of resonance, a journey of inner

[6:40] reconnection.

[6:42] And we love to follow the art and

[6:47] understand the science of why things

[6:49] work as they do. And today we are

[6:53] finishing part of a three-part series

[6:56] called gut. [music] It's a gut health

[6:58] series talking about how your gut is

[7:01] listening. Your gut is always listening.

[7:04] And if you've [music] joined us on the

[7:05] other two progressions, then this is a

[7:08] continuation. And if you haven't, this

[7:10] you're just stepping in, that's a

[7:12] perfect timing [music] for you to be

[7:13] here.

[7:15] Today, we're going to talk about the

[7:18] grace note.

[7:21] And grace is an interesting word because

[7:23] it means a lot of different things to a

[7:25] lot of different people.

[7:27] Well, in music, it has a very specific

[7:31] meaning that I'd like to share with you.

[7:36] But first, I invite you just to settle.

[7:39] Settle a little bit more

[7:43] and begin to notice, witness what you're

[7:46] experiencing in your body right now.

[7:48] There is some reason that these bowls

[7:51] are sitting here in this perfect fifth,

[7:54] inviting us to [snorts] focus and

[7:56] provide structure

[7:58] of our mind, of our energy, of our

[8:00] feelings, of our body. So, where is it

[8:03] that you feel this in your body right

[8:06] now? It's interesting because your body

[8:09] actually starts preparing for whatever

[8:11] is coming the moment it senses

[8:16] [bell]

[8:17] it's coming. Whatever that it is. And

[8:21] here's what I mean.

[8:24] Have you ever Have you ever caught the

[8:26] smell of dinner on the stove and felt

[8:28] your mouth begin to water before you

[8:30] even took [music] a a bite?

[8:33] Have you ever felt that tension in your

[8:35] shoulders and they rise even before that

[8:38] first ring on your phone has even

[8:40] completed? Have you ever felt your whole

[8:43] chest lift at the sound of someone you

[8:45] love coming [music] through the door?

[8:47] Whether they're two-footed or

[8:48] for-footed,

[8:50] [bell]

[8:51] same body,

[8:53] same [music] anticipation,

[8:55] different preparation.

[8:59] Well, in music there is a name for that

[9:04] moment that happens just before an

[9:06] arrival and it's called a grace note. A

[9:09] grace note is actually a tiny it's

[9:12] written this tiny little small note in

[9:15] the score. Sometimes the score is

[9:17] printed very small. It's difficult to

[9:19] see but you you know it's there because

[9:22] its whole purpose is that it gets played

[9:24] before the note that it's connected to.

[9:27] It's not the melody. It isn't what the

[9:30] piece is about. It's not some big deal.

[9:31] It's not all that jazz. It's a subtle

[9:35] texture and context that changes how the

[9:39] note that it's attached to transitioning

[9:42] into will land, will arrive.

[9:46] Played well, you never even notice the

[9:48] grace note.

[9:50] But what you do know is you feel it. You

[9:54] notice that felt arrival.

[9:59] And your life, our life is full of

[10:02] arrivals. We arrive to a meal. We arrive

[10:06] to a conversation, to a doorway, to a

[10:08] threshold, to a mo new moment, a new

[10:11] chapter in our life. And every one of

[10:14] these moments

[10:16] has a grace note. It's that small moment

[10:20] just before

[10:22] we arrive.

[10:24] And most of us rush right through it,

[10:26] don't we?

[10:27] How often do you pause before you walk

[10:30] into a door, walk through a door into a

[10:32] room? You don't. We're talked about.

[10:35] We're here. Get there. Arrive. This is

[10:37] what we're taught. And we see this as

[10:39] necessary. But the truth is is that

[10:42] moment right before the arrival is where

[10:44] all of the juicy goodness of buildup

[10:48] actually happens.

[10:51] The arrival

[10:54] is final. It's like the end of the

[10:56] journey. and the beginning of the next.

[10:58] So, how do we get into this moment makes

[11:01] all the difference in the world. And

[11:02] today, we're going to honor that pause

[11:05] and begin to feel how it affects us and

[11:08] feel the difference when we simply

[11:10] arrive or we allow the arrival to become

[11:14] a part of us.

[11:17] Now today, if you have a cup of tea,

[11:23] maybe a warm toasty beverage,

[11:27] maybe a hot tea, a chory

[11:31] coffee if that's [music] your your jam.

[11:34] If you have it, if you can place it

[11:35] nearby you, you know, if it's a fruit,

[11:38] maybe a banana, maybe a lemon,

[11:41] an apple, cherries, anything. Just have

[11:45] it nearby you if you can. If you don't,

[11:47] don't worry about it. I got you. You'll

[11:49] be fine. Sometimes it's nice to begin to

[11:51] bring these otherwise intangible topics

[11:57] into a tangible felt experience.

[12:01] So if you have fruit, food, beverage,

[12:05] something nearby, just

[12:08] keep it [music] near.

[12:14] [gasps]

[12:18] >> [bell]

[12:19] >> When talking about the gut, it's

[12:21] important to remember that your body

[12:23] begins digesting

[12:25] before you take a single bite. Your body

[12:27] prepares for what it senses that is

[12:30] coming. That's actually called the

[12:32] syphalic phase in science. It's the

[12:34] sight of food, the smell of it, even the

[12:37] thought of it sends a signal through

[12:39] your body. Saliva begins to flow. Your

[12:41] stomach starts preparing acids and

[12:44] enzymes. just gets all bubbly and juicy

[12:46] and groovy. And as much as a fifth of

[12:49] the acid that your stomach makes for a

[12:51] meal is released before the food ever

[12:54] arrives.

[12:56] And how you anticipate food's arrival

[12:59] really matters. In one study, people

[13:02] under hypnosis imagined eating a meal

[13:06] and their stomach acid rose by 89%

[13:10] just with their imagination.

[13:13] Now, when they were guided into deep

[13:15] relaxation,

[13:17] their stomach acid production actually

[13:19] fell by 39%.

[13:22] Same people, same stomachs, [laughter]

[13:25] but totally different anticipatory

[13:28] states and thus results and expressions.

[13:31] So imagine

[13:33] imagining a meal is not going to fill

[13:36] you up. But what it does is that it

[13:38] starts your body's readiness. The

[13:41] saliva, the stomach prepping, all that

[13:43] good stuff, which means the way you

[13:45] arrive

[13:47] to a meal shapes how your body receives

[13:50] it.

[13:53] Now, your stomach keeps its own steady

[13:56] rhythm, a slow wave that moves food

[13:59] along. And researchers actually wanted

[14:01] to measure this rhythm of your stomach.

[14:04] So they played

[14:07] hospital noise and traffic noise to

[14:10] people while they measured the rhythm of

[14:13] their stomach. And it turns out that

[14:16] that rhythm dropped.

[14:19] It was sedated by anywhere between 12 to

[14:22] 14%

[14:25] just by listening to noise. Nothing had

[14:28] happened to these people except the

[14:29] sound of what they heard.

[14:31] Which is very fascinating because

[14:36] another side of this

[14:38] understanding is that in a study there

[14:40] was a study that tracked people's

[14:42] breathing and heart rate moment by

[14:44] moment as they listened to music.

[14:47] And the most interesting thing happened,

[14:51] the most relaxing moments of the entire

[14:54] study weren't

[14:56] when people were listening to music at

[14:58] all. They were actually in the silences

[15:02] between the music tracks.

[15:04] You see, sound prepares the body and

[15:08] often sound prepares us

[15:12] for silence.

[15:17] And you can feel that difference.

[15:20] That single moment, that strike prepared

[15:24] us

[15:26] to settle in right here.

[15:30] Now, in music, we actually write silence

[15:33] into the musical score. We have to

[15:35] notate it so we know when to stop

[15:37] playing. And that silence is actually

[15:39] called a rest. How apppropo. It has its

[15:44] own shape, its own length. It's written

[15:47] in the same ink as the notes that are

[15:49] played. Sound and silence are two sides

[15:54] of the exact same coin.

[15:57] So, with that in mind,

[16:00] consider how this pattern of sound and

[16:03] silence shows up in your life. And

[16:05] because we're talking about the gut,

[16:07] specifically, consider how your meal is

[16:10] happening. Your meal is happening in a

[16:13] room.

[16:15] You're not alone usually. Sometimes you

[16:18] are. Sometimes it's even nicer, right?

[16:21] Sometimes you have people around that

[16:23] you really want to be with. Sometimes

[16:24] you people around that you really don't

[16:26] want to be with. There's happening in

[16:29] the room.

[16:31] The sound of the room and everything

[16:33] that's going on in there is actually a

[16:36] part of the meal. So, I invite you to

[16:39] consider that [music] each and every

[16:41] time before you eat. Consider what

[16:44] sounds you choose to take in and what

[16:46] sounds you choose to let pass you by.

[16:50] Notice your reactions to the sounds in

[16:52] the space. If you're eating on a busy

[16:55] street in between meetings and hustling

[16:57] and bustling all around, take 30

[17:00] seconds. It won't kill you. And observe.

[17:04] You have 30 seconds [music] to gift

[17:06] yourself this moment of observation.

[17:09] Turn it in and notice where is the sound

[17:12] impacting your body. Do you actually

[17:14] feel relaxed? Do you feel like your

[17:16] stomach's ready to receive [music] the

[17:17] food, the gifts that you're giving it?

[17:20] Maybe, maybe not. [music] Just notice.

[17:25] begin to take back the room of sound

[17:30] and reestablish a deeper connection

[17:35] for your body's own benefit.

[17:38] Take a deep breath in. Hold that breath

[17:40] in

[17:42] and just slowly relax as you exhale.

[17:47] Today we are floating through dreamy

[17:50] full moon in Taurus. That sign of the

[17:53] earth, the body, the senses all coming

[17:56] together.

[17:58] Taste, touch, [music]

[18:00] the pleasure of being nourished.

[18:04] A full moon is a moment of fullness.

[18:06] Literally,

[18:08] it's a very fitting time to receive, to

[18:11] practice receiving.

[18:15] So to help us tune in even more deeply,

[18:20] we're going to work with a mudra.

[18:23] Remember, a mudra is a certain position

[18:26] [music] that your hands make that has a

[18:28] direct connection into your neurological

[18:30] circuitry that helps

[18:33] establish

[18:35] connection to the body. lots of

[18:37] different lineages. Whether you approach

[18:39] it scientifically or from an ancient say

[18:42] vadic understanding and tradition.

[18:44] However you arrive just know that there

[18:46] are so many connections between the

[18:49] palms of your hand and the inside of

[18:51] your brain. There are some great real

[18:53] estate happening. So we can shift our

[18:55] brain state literally with the palms of

[18:58] our hands. So today as we move into

[19:02] greater levels of grace, we're going to

[19:04] practice the mudra of grace. And it's

[19:07] actually from the Jean key lineage from

[19:10] philosopher Richard Rudd. And this is

[19:13] how you make that particular position.

[19:16] You start with your hands open, palms

[19:18] facing up. I like to kind of just gently

[19:20] push out my little pinkies just a little

[19:22] bit only because we're going to then

[19:24] allow those pinkies

[19:27] to sort of interlock.

[19:29] That's it. And then my hands just come

[19:31] down

[19:33] and rest, those two thumbs touching. So

[19:37] you've hooked your two little fingers

[19:39] together. So your hands link at their

[19:41] outer edges. And you let your fingers

[19:44] rest, one hand in the other, a soft

[19:46] cradle.

[19:48] Usually the right small finger, that

[19:51] pinky finger will sit on the outside. Uh

[19:54] so uh on top of your left hand, but

[19:58] allow your fingers to find their most

[19:59] comfortable form. Whatever that is for

[20:01] you. It may be opposite. That's fine.

[20:03] And then bring the tips of your thumbs

[20:05] lightly softly together and make a small

[20:09] oval uh of an open space there right

[20:12] above your palms so that your your

[20:14] thumbs are sort of lifted. And you see

[20:16] that there in the picture. And then you

[20:18] can just either rest your hands here,

[20:21] maybe in front of your stomach, or if it

[20:23] feels good, allow them just to sit in

[20:25] your lap.

[20:28] So, wherever you're connecting to,

[20:32] just begin to notice,

[20:36] feel.

[20:42] This is thought to be a very deeply

[20:44] feminine mudra, one you could rest in

[20:47] for hours, letting grace fall on you

[20:51] like soft divine rain.

[20:54] So just breathe into your open hands.

[20:58] You can keep looking at me

[21:03] or you can let your eyes close. If

[21:05] you're not sure how to do that mudra

[21:06] again, Jeremy will put that image back

[21:09] on the screen for you.

[21:16] >> [music]

[21:22] [music]

[21:30] [music]

[21:34] [music]

[21:37] >> Take a deep breath in. Holding that

[21:39] breath in.

[21:41] As you slowly exhale, feel your heart

[21:43] relax.

[21:47] Good. You can just release your hands.

[21:49] We're going to return to this mudra once

[21:51] the body is really slowed down even more

[21:56] so that we can really deeply receive.

[21:59] And remember, if you have a cup of tea

[22:01] or fruit nearby, keep it close. If not,

[22:06] your imagination will work beautifully.

[22:09] And if you have a sensitive stomach or

[22:12] maybe acid reflux throughout our guided

[22:15] journey today, if anything starts to

[22:17] feel a little off for you, simply rest

[22:20] your attention.

[22:22] I might invite you to rest your

[22:23] attention on a smell. Instead, rest it

[22:26] on a sensation. Maybe a sensation of

[22:28] warmth, maybe the color,

[22:31] another aspect of the [music]

[22:33] visualization. If you need to shift your

[22:35] attention to find greater ease in your

[22:37] body, please do so.

[22:40] So, let's find that grace note [music]

[22:43] and let your body remember how to

[22:45] receive.

[22:47] Take a deep breath in. Hold that breath

[22:49] in. And as you slowly exhale, settle

[22:53] into a position that brings even more

[22:55] comfort and ease into your body.

[23:02] Whether you're seated

[23:06] or lying down,

[23:10] feel your eyes soften and close.

[23:14] Bring one hand now to your belly. Just

[23:18] rest it there. [music]

[23:19] It's a subtle connection into that

[23:22] beautiful gut and its entire system that

[23:27] nourishes,

[23:29] that receives, that gives

[23:35] that helps you assimilate your life.

[23:38] [music]

[23:41] Feel the weight of your body

[23:44] in your seat or on the floor, the ground

[23:47] rising up to meet you.

[23:50] And just begin to notice your breath.

[23:55] And now invite your breath to find a

[23:58] specific rhythm where we will take an

[24:00] inhale for a count of four, hold that

[24:04] inhalation for a count of four, exhale

[24:07] for four, [music] and then hold out for

[24:10] four. We're going to begin that rhythm

[24:13] here

[24:14] shortly.

[24:16] Just

[24:18] settle into this moment

[24:23] [music] and begin to breathe in for one

[24:27] 2 3 4 and hold.

[24:31] 2 3 4 exhale. [music]

[24:36] 2 3 4 and hold.

[24:40] 2 3 4 inhale. [music]

[24:45] Two, three, four. Hold.

[24:50] Two, three, four. Exhale.

[24:54] [music] 2 3 4 and hold.

[24:59] 2 3 4. Inhale.

[25:04] 2 3

[25:07] exhale. Hold. Sorry. 3 4 exhale.

[25:14] Two. 2 3 4 [music] and hold.

[25:19] 2 3 4. Last time. Inhale. 2 3 4. Hold.

[25:27] [music]

[25:28] 2 3 4. Exhale.

[25:33] [music] 2 3 4. And hold.

[25:39] [music] Two three four.

[25:43] And just allow that rhythm to settle,

[25:47] to let it go.

[25:50] And notice what shifts you're detecting

[25:52] in your body. Perhaps it's easy to feel

[25:54] a little calmer, a little bit more

[25:57] relaxed. [music] Changing your breath

[26:00] changes the flow of your entire

[26:02] physiology.

[26:06] Taking stock of what's going on for you

[26:10] inside. Now allow your attention to

[26:14] direct itself to the center of your

[26:16] chest

[26:18] to your heart space. [music]

[26:22] And as that attention begins to flow to

[26:24] the area of your heart, think imagine or

[26:26] feel your breath entering

[26:30] and exiting through your heart space.

[26:33] Breathe through your heart.

[26:36] >> [music]

[26:37] >> Notice what does it feel like to breathe

[26:42] through your heart.

[26:45] [music]

[26:46] What does that call up for you? You may

[26:49] feel

[26:51] sensations,

[26:53] emotions,

[26:55] memories.

[26:57] Just notice.

[27:00] And if there's something unsettling that

[27:03] comes up, hold that breath in. the next

[27:05] inhale that you take and slowly exhale.

[27:10] Allow the exhalation to be even longer

[27:12] than the inhale. And as you exhale, see

[27:15] whatever it was that was troubling you

[27:17] to just float away, dissolving into the

[27:23] silence of the horizon.

[27:26] Good.

[27:28] And as you continue to breathe through

[27:30] your heart, when you feel something

[27:33] good, joyful, peaceful,

[27:38] turn it up.

[27:40] Turn the volume of that feeling, that

[27:42] emotion, that sensation. Imagine it

[27:45] rising,

[27:47] growing.

[27:53] And as you hold your focus on your

[27:55] heart, it's easy to begin to invite and

[27:59] welcome a truly deeply positive feeling.

[28:06] Perhaps it's a feeling of love, a

[28:09] feeling of gratitude,

[28:11] of appreciation, or a feeling of care.

[28:15] [bell] Care for someone that you love.

[28:19] Maybe a furry friend comes to mind.

[28:22] Someone who has taught you how to love

[28:23] unconditionally because they love you

[28:26] unconditionally.

[28:28] Maybe it's a perfect memory of a

[28:30] beautiful autumn afternoon where

[28:33] everything flowed

[28:36] like you hoped it would and more.

[28:40] begin to feel this positive emotion,

[28:44] this gratefulness [music]

[28:46] for the kind word, the deed or action

[28:48] that someone blessed you with or that

[28:51] perhaps you blessed someone else with,

[28:54] [music] whether you received or gave.

[28:59] Turn that feeling up,

[29:02] for it's that feeling that begins to

[29:04] spread like a golden wildfire all around

[29:08] your body. Good.

[29:12] Feel its warmth spread throughout your

[29:14] chest, down your arms, down into the

[29:17] very core of your belly,

[29:20] maybe up into the crown of your head,

[29:23] down into the soles of your feet. Turn

[29:26] up the volume of its expression to your

[29:29] perfect degree.

[29:31] Allow its intensity [music] to be what

[29:33] you need right now. This flow will begin

[29:37] to bring your heart into deeper levels

[29:40] of coherence.

[29:42] And when your heart beats smoothly and

[29:46] regularly

[29:48] like the conductor of a symphony

[29:50] queuing,

[29:52] the rest of the orchestra, your body

[29:56] will follow suit and you'll begin to

[29:59] flow in deeper, more perfectly

[30:02] established and timed rhythm.

[30:06] That

[30:07] is flow

[30:10] [music]

[30:14] [music]

[30:22] flow.

[30:24] [music]

[30:25] Good.

[30:29] The heart sets the rhythm.

[30:33] Your body, [music]

[30:35] your belly,

[30:37] your gut

[30:39] listens. [music]

[30:42] Take a deep breath in, holding that

[30:44] breath in, and then a long, slow,

[30:47] deliberate exhale. Let that exhale last

[30:50] as long as you can,

[30:53] allowing

[30:55] all of those sensations to just gently

[30:57] fade

[31:01] into the perfect flow

[31:04] of silence.

[31:08] You can bring your hands to rest on your

[31:10] belly, either one hand or both, whatever

[31:13] feels natural.

[31:16] Breathe in.

[31:18] And at the top of the breath, pause. A

[31:20] small, easy pause. And breathe out.

[31:24] At the bottom of the breath, pause

[31:26] again.

[31:28] Just rest there. In.

[31:31] Pause.

[31:33] Out. [music]

[31:34] Rest.

[31:36] In. Pause.

[31:39] Out. Rest.

[31:42] The pause at the bottom of the breath is

[31:45] the stillest place

[31:47] in your body.

[31:50] Rest there a little longer each time.

[31:54] Allow this gentle beating of these sound

[31:57] waves to begin to shake things up in

[32:01] your system. Bring things to the surface

[32:04] gently, slowly, easily,

[32:07] without force.

[32:09] Let the sound begin to do the work.

[32:15] And now, if you have a grounding

[32:17] practice, I invite you to begin that

[32:20] now.

[32:21] If not, think, imagine, or feel a golden

[32:24] cord of light that originates at the

[32:27] base of your spine. It's about as wide

[32:29] as your hips and it descends all the way

[32:32] down through the floor beneath you down

[32:35] into the earth nestling in finding a

[32:39] place that feels good to connect into.

[32:44] Good.

[32:47] [music] This grounding cord serves as a

[32:49] place, a point of release for you that

[32:52] any time today that you're ready to let

[32:55] go of something, you can think, imagine,

[32:58] or feel whatever you're letting go

[33:00] descend down this golden cord of light,

[33:04] recycling it back into

[33:07] your beautiful mother earth.

[33:10] Allow that energy to transform into

[33:14] whatever it needs to be next. Feel

[33:17] [music]

[33:19] the earth beneath you as you feel rooted

[33:21] and grounded, secure, [music]

[33:24] solid and generous

[33:28] within grounding. Everything that

[33:30] nourishes you begins here.

[33:36] Take a deep [music] breath in. Holding

[33:38] that breath in

[33:41] and slowly

[33:43] [music] exhale.

[33:49] >> [music]

[34:10] [music]

[34:20] [music]

[34:23] [bell]

[34:25] [music]

[34:30] [music]

[34:40] [music]

[34:51] [music]

[34:59] [music]

[35:08] [music]

[35:19] >> With your hands on your belly,

[35:22] begin to witness.

[35:25] Notice how you have been arriving in

[35:30] your life.

[35:31] Allow in the theater of your mind to

[35:34] spring forth images of how you arrive

[35:37] into meals.

[35:40] Perhaps

[35:41] eating on the move, how you arrive into

[35:45] conversations,

[35:47] maybe already bracing or maybe open,

[35:52] [music] free,

[35:55] devoid of any expectation.

[35:58] how you arrive into each new moment.

[36:02] [music]

[36:02] Are you fully there? Are you halfway

[36:05] there, half leaning towards the next

[36:07] [music] moment? Or perhaps falling

[36:10] backwards into the past? Just notice.

[36:13] Notice the patterns that you

[36:17] have been forming in your [music] life.

[36:21] There's nothing wrong with them. They're

[36:24] information and information is power.

[36:29] So notice, witness.

[36:33] Take stock.

[36:36] [music]

[36:42] For some of you, you will see areas

[36:44] where you flow gently, beautifully

[36:46] [music]

[36:47] like water.

[36:49] For some of you, you'll notice places

[36:51] where you push, you force, you rush, you

[36:54] fret. [music]

[36:57] Of course,

[36:59] it's called being human. [music]

[37:02] And all of those choices live as

[37:05] feelings in your body,

[37:08] like that tightness [music] in your jaw.

[37:12] Put your attention on your jaws and feel

[37:15] what degree of tightness you are

[37:17] actually living with right now. [music]

[37:21] Maybe that works for you, maybe it

[37:23] doesn't.

[37:24] Notice that breath. If you hold it high

[37:28] in your chest or if you tend to breathe

[37:30] deep in the belly,

[37:33] just witness

[37:40] clenched fists.

[37:44] It's hard to receive with a closed palm.

[37:47] [music]

[37:50] Just

[37:52] witness.

[37:55] And if it feels good to name it when

[37:58] these images, thoughts, interpretations

[38:00] come up, that's fine. Or you can just

[38:03] [music]

[38:04] notice. Either is perfect. There's

[38:07] nothing to fix. Just [music] witness.

[38:16] [music]

[38:23] And to all of those parts of you that

[38:27] have held the [music] tension, the

[38:28] pressure, the rushing,

[38:31] the concern, the fret, the worry,

[38:34] [music] the not being fully in each

[38:37] moment.

[38:38] All of those beautiful parts of yourself

[38:42] that you've [music] just witnessed. The

[38:44] time has come to say thank you and begin

[38:48] to bless them. Think, imagine, or feel,

[38:51] or hear yourself say aloud,

[38:55] "I see you.

[38:58] Thank you.

[39:00] [music]

[39:01] Well done.

[39:04] You have worked so hard to keep

[39:06] everything moving.

[39:09] Thank you. [music] You've helped to

[39:11] carry me thus far, and I bless you for

[39:14] that. But now [music]

[39:18] you can release.

[39:20] You can relax.

[39:23] [music] You can let go.

[39:27] Breathe in.

[39:30] And on a long exhalation,

[39:33] feel all of that

[39:35] begin

[39:37] to loosen,

[39:39] to drain down, perhaps through your

[39:42] grounding cord. Maybe you see it

[39:44] dissolve.

[39:46] Maybe you feel it just float away.

[39:50] Whatever your experience is is perfect.

[39:54] [music]

[39:55] Breathe in and let the exhalation

[39:58] carry away.

[40:01] Everything that you're ready to let go

[40:03] of. Just feel it grounding out.

[40:07] Releasing.

[40:08] [music]

[40:09] Your body settles heavy and warm. You

[40:12] can feel that heaviness,

[40:15] that relaxation

[40:17] descending into your hands and into that

[40:20] beautiful gut and stomach and belly of

[40:24] yours

[40:25] upon which your hands rest.

[40:29] Your body may signal [music] a shift,

[40:34] a sigh, a gurgle, a twitch, a wave of

[40:37] warmth. Allow it.

[40:41] [music] Just feel that

[40:44] release.

[40:47] [music]

[40:48] Good.

[40:54] Like the red maple leaves in autumn,

[40:58] when it's time for the leaf to descend

[41:01] and let go, [music] it does.

[41:06] It doesn't ask why.

[41:08] It doesn't say when. doesn't say how.

[41:12] It just

[41:14] lets go.

[41:18] [music]

[41:19] It follows its perfect

[41:23] rhythm.

[41:26] [music]

[41:27] Take a deep breath in

[41:30] and as you exhale, allow a tiny sound to

[41:33] escape. [gasps]

[41:37] [music]

[41:38] Now,

[41:41] if it feels good to you,

[41:44] on your next exhalation, allow that

[41:46] sound to become more resonant.

[41:49] Turn it into a hum.

[41:56] Can be any note, any pitch, doesn't

[41:58] matter.

[42:01] Good.

[42:02] Try that again. And then notice the

[42:06] stillness

[42:07] after the sound. Breathe in

[42:12] and hum.

[42:27] Let that silence take you to where you

[42:31] need to go.

[42:34] Take another deep breath in.

[42:38] And as you exhale, hum [music]

[42:43] and rest in whatever follows.

[42:50] [music]

[42:55] Again, deep breath in, hold,

[43:00] and slowly

[43:02] exhale.

[43:04] Good.

[43:08] Allow your rhythms to settle into the

[43:12] depth of silence.

[43:20] >> [music]

[43:32] >> If you have a cup of tea or a piece of

[43:35] fruit nearby,

[43:37] bring it towards you. Bring it close.

[43:40] Begin to feel the warmth of that cup.

[43:45] Feel the weight of the fruit in your

[43:47] palm. Notice its color.

[43:51] Notice how it makes you feel.

[43:55] Study this beautiful piece of fruit or

[43:58] beverage that you're holding. And if you

[44:00] [music] don't, if you don't have one,

[44:01] just think, imagine, or feel yourself

[44:03] holding a warm toasty mug of your

[44:08] favorite concoction. [music]

[44:11] And allow that warmth to become real to

[44:14] your body.

[44:16] Taste what's in the cup.

[44:19] Taste that piece of fruit.

[44:22] Smell what's in the cup. Smell the

[44:25] fruit.

[44:27] Imagine [music] it in your mouth

[44:29] providing nourishment.

[44:35] [music]

[44:38] And notice what your body begins to do

[44:40] all on its own. Perhaps [music] a

[44:43] softening in the belly, a warmth

[44:46] spreading in your middle, your mouth

[44:48] beginning to [music] water.

[44:53] Your body is preparing to receive right

[44:55] now.

[44:57] [music]

[44:57] Yet you've given it nothing. Yet the

[45:01] preparation is beautiful. You because

[45:03] you're already saying yes.

[45:07] This

[45:08] is the grace note. [music]

[45:15] That moment before you arrive. [music]

[45:27] [music]

[45:28] That tiny space that's hardly

[45:31] noticeable,

[45:33] hardly perceptible, and yet [music]

[45:36] makes all [singing] the difference.

[45:42] and breathe. [music]

[45:45] Good.

[45:46] Gently set your cup or your fruit down

[45:51] and let your hands come home to your

[45:53] belly.

[45:57] It's time to re-engage, reactivate that

[45:59] beautiful mudra of grace.

[46:02] Remember, you just palms up, little

[46:06] fingers hook together, one hand resting

[46:10] in the other, the thumb tips lightly

[46:13] touching, [music]

[46:15] and then cradle.

[46:19] Rest your palms in your lap. [music]

[46:23] Breathe into your open hands. Feel,

[46:29] receive,

[46:32] welcome,

[46:35] allow

[46:38] [music]

[46:46] [music]

[46:55] >> [music]

[47:03] [music]

[47:08] [music]

[47:14] [music]

[47:23] [music]

[47:30] [music]

[47:39] [music]

[47:45] >> And now

[47:48] allow your body

[47:50] to make its own sound. A hum,

[47:58] a beautiful note you'd like to sing

[47:59] aloud if it feels good. A quiet, maybe

[48:03] even tentative vibration escaping from

[48:06] your throat. Whatever it is, it doesn't

[48:07] matter. It's yours.

[48:09] The most powerful instrument on this

[48:12] planet is you. in the power of your own

[48:17] voice. So use it, engage it, invite it,

[48:20] and receive it. Begin to hum softly,

[48:24] long and low

[48:32] [music] at your own pace.

[48:34] Whatever it is, whether it matches me or

[48:37] not, it doesn't matter.

[48:40] Hum.

[48:43] [music]

[48:44] Hum.

[48:49] Hum.

[48:52] [music]

[49:03] A little softer.

[49:05] [bell]

[49:07] A little softer still.

[49:12] And when the hum is done,

[49:16] let it fade all the way into silence

[49:20] and rest

[49:22] in that silence.

[49:45] as you hold the mudra of grace.

[49:51] Think, imagine or feel a respplendic

[49:54] golden light, a sparkling

[49:58] expression

[50:00] of energy of the divine, of whatever it

[50:03] is that you see. Begin to descend and

[50:06] fill the palm of your hands.

[50:12] [bell]

[50:13] Allow your palms to welcome

[50:17] grace.

[50:21] >> [bell]

[50:25] [music]

[50:33] [music]

[50:39] [bell]

[50:46] [music]

[50:49] >> Feel grace fall over you like rain. Soft

[50:53] rain on open earth through your every

[50:57] breath through your heartbeat through

[50:59] your belly

[51:02] soaking into every cell that's open and

[51:04] ready to receive.

[51:07] [music]

[51:09] Feel the expression of grace

[51:13] quietly calling you,

[51:16] inviting you to receive.

[51:18] >> [music]

[51:21] >> And you breathe

[51:23] relaxing even more because this is what

[51:25] it feels like to fully arrive

[51:30] into the present moment.

[51:35] Grace. [music]

[51:38] Grace is effortless beauty.

[51:41] It's a connection to an unseen force

[51:44] that seems to guide us towards our

[51:47] betterment. Whether we deserve this

[51:49] kindness or not,

[51:52] grace is the elegance of goodwill

[51:56] and ultimate

[51:58] harmony.

[52:00] Breathe it in. Receive it in your palms.

[52:06] And either silently or out loud say

[52:11] I am open.

[52:15] I am nourished.

[52:19] [music]

[52:22] I am open.

[52:25] I

[52:27] am nourished.

[52:31] [bell] I am nourished.

[52:38] allowing your hands to just easily relax

[52:42] now into your lap

[52:44] or beside you.

[52:48] Settling into the silence

[52:51] and notice how your body feels now.

[52:57] It's easy to feel how you're a little

[53:00] more relaxed,

[53:02] a little more open.

[53:04] unhurried,

[53:07] settled,

[53:08] ready to receive.

[53:12] Notice what is true for you

[53:16] and begin to feel these feelings even

[53:19] more deeply.

[53:29] And know this,

[53:31] these feelings are yours and they are

[53:33] yours to return to anytime, [music]

[53:35] anywhere.

[53:37] Your day, every day is full of grace

[53:42] notes. That breath before the first

[53:44] bite. The pause before you walk into a

[53:48] room, before you open your inbox,

[53:52] the moment at the doorway before you

[53:54] walk back into your home at the end of a

[53:56] long, grueling day.

[53:59] The breath you take before you answer in

[54:03] haste.

[54:06] You have the opportunity to welcome

[54:08] grace

[54:10] so many times each and every day.

[54:15] [bell]

[54:16] [music]

[54:20] And you know that you are capable,

[54:24] that you desire to choose [music] to

[54:26] activate these moments of grace.

[54:31] [music]

[54:35] Good.

[54:37] [music]

[54:38] Now, in your mind's eye,

[54:40] think, imagine, or feel yourself

[54:42] arriving

[54:44] to a time when these graceful moments

[54:49] exist. See yourself sitting down to your

[54:51] next meal. A hand on your belly.

[54:55] A slow breath in, a long breath out, a

[54:58] small pause

[55:00] before you begin the first bite. [music]

[55:04] One example of countless

[55:08] that you can turn into your practice to

[55:11] return to these feelings of openness, of

[55:15] grace anytime, anywhere. [music]

[55:20] and your heart smiles because you

[55:22] recognize that when you pause

[55:27] others are impacted.

[55:30] A pause offered is a pause that is

[55:34] shared.

[55:36] You can share grace simply by the choice

[55:41] to arrive

[55:44] more fully into each moment.

[55:48] And when you do that, everybody around

[55:51] you can do that too, a little bit

[55:54] easier.

[55:59] Take a deep breath in, holding that

[56:02] breath in. And as you slowly exhale, you

[56:04] recognize [music] it's time to begin to

[56:06] come back into this time space place,

[56:09] this new now moment.

[56:11] >> [bell]

[56:12] >> And before you do,

[56:15] know that the pathway to the stillness

[56:19] [music] is more familiar. You've already

[56:21] walked it. You've done it. You can come

[56:23] back here anytime. And the next time you

[56:26] choose to relax, to settle, to find

[56:30] stability in this way, you can do so

[56:34] more easily with less effort each time

[56:37] you choose to relax to the sound of

[56:39] these chromatic crystal singing bowls.

[56:44] [music] And you gather what you found

[56:46] here today.

[56:48] Bring with you the pause, that pause at

[56:52] the bottom of your breath, that full

[56:55] extension into rest. Bring with you the

[56:58] softness of your belly that you felt

[57:00] when you were ready. So ready to

[57:03] receive.

[57:06] [music] Bring with you the grace note

[57:09] before every arrival.

[57:12] [music]

[57:13] that still presence

[57:17] before you arrive

[57:19] into the now moment.

[57:23] And if you're ready to come back with

[57:24] me,

[57:27] join me now. Take a deep breath in.

[57:32] And as you exhale, feel your awareness

[57:34] begin to more fully settle back into

[57:37] your body. Wiggle your [music] fingers

[57:39] and your toes and your nose.

[57:43] Maybe a stretch, a yawn, [music]

[57:47] a deepening into the body, and a release

[57:50] out for all the work that you've done. A

[57:54] long easy stretch. And whenever you're

[57:56] ready, just allow your eyes to begin to

[57:58] open.

[58:01] Begin to come back more fully into

[58:04] this [music]

[58:05] moment.

[58:07] And remember

[58:09] [music] you are open,

[58:12] you are nourished,

[58:15] you are home. [music]

[58:20] Welcome back.

[58:34] [bell]

[58:35] If you want to change the state

[58:38] of your health, the health of your gut,

[58:42] change the state of your body. Allow

[58:46] your body to arrive more fully into each

[58:49] and every moment.

[58:51] Every arrival into a new moment has a

[58:55] grace note. Take a breath before

[59:00] you take a bite.

[59:05] How are you feeling, my friends?

[59:09] [sighs]

[59:11] Tell me how that was for you. If you'd

[59:13] like to share in the chat, I'd like to

[59:14] go through that with you. It was

[59:16] interesting. It was um today I feel like

[59:20] we sure the moon's not in Virgo. I feel

[59:22] very structured. Um there is a lot of

[59:26] alignment that is going on right now,

[59:28] which probably has to do with a lot of

[59:30] the other astrological effects that are

[59:31] happening.

[59:32] uh beyond the moon, but we're finding

[59:35] that structure that came about so

[59:37] clearly through the sound. So, as you

[59:39] take a moment, if you'd like to share in

[59:40] the chat, I'd love to go through it with

[59:42] you. Let me reflect back what the BS

[59:45] shared with us, what came up. So, I

[59:48] shared with you a little bit at the

[59:49] beginning, but we were very much uh when

[59:52] we started, we were in this beautiful

[59:54] Eflat major, B flat major. In classical

[59:59] music, Eflat major is a think of it as a

[1:00:01] conversation with the divine. It's an

[1:00:03] intimate conversation. I think of it as

[1:00:06] having a conversation with Mother Mary.

[1:00:10] That's just how it feels to me. Not

[1:00:12] arguing on theology here, none of that.

[1:00:15] But that feminine aspect or reflection

[1:00:18] of the divine,

[1:00:21] it the Eflat reminds me of an a Maria.

[1:00:25] It just does.

[1:00:28] B flat is this beautiful sensebased.

[1:00:32] It's kind you a lot of times we feel it

[1:00:35] in the head. Let me show you.

[1:00:38] But also in the body you kind of feel

[1:00:40] this floating in the head but it's not

[1:00:43] at the top of your head. It's kind of

[1:00:44] like in the back of your mind. So you

[1:00:46] can just sort of float around on these

[1:00:48] sounds and just kind of feel deeply into

[1:00:51] your body. And it would make sense

[1:00:53] because we're connecting into the heart.

[1:00:54] we're connecting into [music] directly

[1:00:55] into the gut. Um, so

[1:01:00] that's really where we started and then

[1:01:05] structure arrived [laughter]

[1:01:07] and we very much grounded ourselves into

[1:01:09] a fundamental [music] placement of D and

[1:01:12] D in classical music if we're in which

[1:01:15] by the way was never fully defined. We

[1:01:17] didn't fully go into D major and we

[1:01:19] didn't fully go into D minor. So we kind

[1:01:22] of existed between these two worlds. In

[1:01:25] D major we feel this triumphant

[1:01:27] victorious. We have uh as a celebration

[1:01:30] of victory. In D minor there is this

[1:01:34] sort of melancholic

[1:01:37] brooding and there's also a feminine

[1:01:40] aspect of this too. It's kind of like

[1:01:42] that uh

[1:01:45] angsty internalizing. So we were sitting

[1:01:48] in between this structure of D minor D

[1:01:52] major specifically D is frequently

[1:01:56] ascribed to the second energy center

[1:01:58] that place that constitute the belly

[1:02:01] we're talking about gut health very

[1:02:03] logical place to resonate

[1:02:07] in Vdic understandings this is a um a a

[1:02:11] watery center a center of creativity

[1:02:14] simultaneously we were connecting So

[1:02:17] watery center creativity.

[1:02:20] [music] This connects us into that deep

[1:02:22] seat of intuition into that six energy

[1:02:24] center, the ajna chakra, the third eye.

[1:02:29] You'll kind of feel it in the center of

[1:02:30] your head.

[1:02:32] Good. But then you'd ground it into the

[1:02:34] body. And these two guys like to talk.

[1:02:38] And they were providing a cradle, a

[1:02:41] structure, uh an integrous place in

[1:02:44] which we could flow

[1:02:47] probably so that it would be easier for

[1:02:49] us to receive.

[1:02:52] I thought that was very interesting how

[1:02:53] those those uh musical constructs showed

[1:02:57] up for us today. So, it's good to see

[1:03:00] you, Geraldine. Happy full moon to you.

[1:03:03] So glad you are joining us from Western

[1:03:06] Oz, Western Australia in the outback.

[1:03:08] Good night to you, my friend. Sandy,

[1:03:11] love from Tucson. Yeah, the planets were

[1:03:14] doing some crazy things last night.

[1:03:16] We're all feeling it. And again,

[1:03:19] reflections of what comes through. We

[1:03:22] sense things differently. What I sense

[1:03:25] doesn't have to be what you sense. What

[1:03:26] you sense doesn't have to be what I

[1:03:28] sense. And yet, we're all designed to

[1:03:31] find patterns in the world around us,

[1:03:34] replicate those patterns, and find a

[1:03:36] greater understanding and expression of

[1:03:38] flow, of natural flow. Flow for us, flow

[1:03:41] for me, flow for you, flow for Jeremy,

[1:03:42] flow for my cats. They're just We all

[1:03:44] flow a little differently because we're

[1:03:46] tuned.

[1:03:48] We're put together a little differently.

[1:03:51] We've had different experiences.

[1:03:53] We've had different

[1:03:55] instrument makers work on us to keep the

[1:03:58] analogy alive. So there is no right or

[1:04:02] wrong way to move through these

[1:04:03] patterns. So just notice if how it shows

[1:04:06] up for you. Some people are like, "Oh my

[1:04:07] god, I totally felt that." And others

[1:04:08] are like, "But planets, are you kidding

[1:04:11] me?" So wherever you are, it's perfect.

[1:04:14] Just let yourself be there. Hey

[1:04:17] Graceand, so nice to see you. So glad

[1:04:19] you were here.

[1:04:21] Ah, [sighs] Monica, greetings from

[1:04:23] Austin, Texas. Nice to see you. Jamie,

[1:04:26] thank you for your very kind donation.

[1:04:28] May it come back to you a hundfold.

[1:04:31] I'm grateful for you. Sandy says,

[1:04:34] "Sublime, very relaxed. Much needed."

[1:04:37] Thank you. Good. I'm so glad. Yeah, it

[1:04:39] was a an interesting flow today.

[1:04:42] Appreciate you joining on that one. Doug

[1:04:45] says, "Sending love." Thank you so much,

[1:04:47] Doug. Sending love back to you as well.

[1:04:49] Melanie says, "Glad to see you today in

[1:04:50] the full moon. Love that emoji. Love the

[1:04:53] insight timer, but on YouTube for best

[1:04:55] consistent connection." Indeed. Indeed.

[1:04:58] We're so glad that we're able to come

[1:05:00] for you, at you, to you.

[1:05:03] Choose whatever preposition you'd prefer

[1:05:05] on both Insight Timer and on YouTube.

[1:05:08] The great thing about Insight Timer is

[1:05:09] that the community is loves to be there.

[1:05:11] And if you're already in the morning up

[1:05:12] meditating, doing your stuff, we're

[1:05:14] right there for you.

[1:05:16] [clears throat] Excuse me. However,

[1:05:19] technology happens and uh which is why

[1:05:22] my brilliant husband also streams on

[1:05:24] YouTube. So, you have multiple places in

[1:05:27] which to find your jam because sometimes

[1:05:30] connections for one person can be a

[1:05:33] little sketchy, but for another totally

[1:05:36] fine. So, here you have options. And the

[1:05:37] best thing is too is that once that live

[1:05:39] goes off of Insight Timer, it lives on

[1:05:41] YouTube. So, you can go back to this

[1:05:43] anytime, anywhere.

[1:05:45] Anna says it was divine and light and

[1:05:49] much like a fluffy sule in my being.

[1:05:52] Wow. A fluffy sule in your being. That's

[1:05:56] amazeballs. What flavor? [laughter]

[1:05:58] Taurus here. Much is food related. Let's

[1:06:01] eat. Yeah, there you go. I love that.

[1:06:02] Sensorybased

[1:06:04] makes complete sense. Well, my friends,

[1:06:06] thank you for joining me for Don't leave

[1:06:08] yet because I have some fun things I'm

[1:06:10] going to share. Hang on just for a

[1:06:11] second. But thank you so much for

[1:06:12] joining me for this three-part. Your gut

[1:06:14] is listening gut health series. If you'd

[1:06:17] like to go back and revisit any of

[1:06:18] those, they are on our YouTube page. And

[1:06:22] the cool thing is is that now if you go

[1:06:25] to charlene.com,

[1:06:29] you have the entire library at your

[1:06:31] fingertips. All the live streams, all

[1:06:34] you all of them that we've already done

[1:06:37] divided in categories. the ones that are

[1:06:39] most watched, the ones that related to

[1:06:41] nervous, your uh nervous system, to

[1:06:44] anxiety, to sleep, to holy days, to

[1:06:48] sacred expressions, to what else is in

[1:06:50] there, Jeremy? There's all kinds of

[1:06:52] stuff. Um, creativity,

[1:06:55] any anytime that you need, you're like,

[1:06:58] listen, I just need some meditation

[1:07:00] right now to go through and get me in.

[1:07:02] It'll take you go to our website. Go to

[1:07:04] charlene.comlive

[1:07:06] or just go to the top menu. says watch

[1:07:08] live stream live and push in there. Go

[1:07:11] to that page and you will find the

[1:07:13] categories that will best serve you.

[1:07:15] We're trying to make this so much easier

[1:07:18] and more streamline for you. We're also

[1:07:20] going to be I'm so excited about this uh

[1:07:22] adding a search feature on that page so

[1:07:24] that if you're like what was that

[1:07:26] meditation where she talked about a

[1:07:28] stag, you can search stag, a keyword, a

[1:07:31] phrase, a name, and it will take you

[1:07:34] back to that particular

[1:07:37] uh live stream. so that you can relive

[1:07:39] these moments anytime, anywhere. We

[1:07:40] thought it'd be a really helpful tool

[1:07:42] for you. And the cool thing is too is

[1:07:44] that we're also now uh allowing you if

[1:07:46] you want to sign up to get a quick email

[1:07:48] notification 15 minutes before every

[1:07:51] live that's scheduled on our calendar.

[1:07:54] Um you can do that. All you have to do

[1:07:56] is give us your email and let us know uh

[1:07:58] that you don't have to do that. Just

[1:08:00] give us your email and we will send you

[1:08:02] those quick 15-inute reminders. they

[1:08:04] will have both the YouTube as well as

[1:08:06] the insight timer links in those emails.

[1:08:09] So, it's very easy. It's just a click of

[1:08:11] a button. The cool thing is is that when

[1:08:13] you do that, you can also choose to say,

[1:08:15] "Hey, you know what? Send me those

[1:08:17] scheduled uh times to my calendar just

[1:08:20] so I can keep them in mind." For people

[1:08:22] like me, that really helps. If it's not

[1:08:24] on my calendar, in my simple brain, it

[1:08:26] doesn't exist. [laughter]

[1:08:28] So, I thought it might be helpful for

[1:08:29] some folks um

[1:08:32] like me who would benefit from having a

[1:08:34] calendar reminder instead of trying to

[1:08:36] keep all these different apps and

[1:08:37] things. And here you can live much more

[1:08:39] deliberately and with focus. And we're

[1:08:41] helping to try to bring greater ease for

[1:08:42] you. So, if you want that, just go to

[1:08:44] charlene.comlive.

[1:08:48] Sign up for your email, for your alert,

[1:08:51] and then you never have to think about

[1:08:52] it or worry about it again because we

[1:08:54] have some really great live streams

[1:08:56] coming up in November. Four of them to

[1:08:58] be exact. You ready? November 1st. It's

[1:09:01] a Sunday. It's all saints day. We are

[1:09:05] going to meet St. Hildigard of Bingan

[1:09:09] and talk about her veridas of the heart.

[1:09:12] I'm so excited about that. Veritas to

[1:09:15] St. H to St. Hildigard was this green

[1:09:18] flowing verdant expression of the divine

[1:09:21] that she could hear in each and every

[1:09:24] being human animal plant and what that

[1:09:29] flow that green verdant flow of the

[1:09:33] divine meant for each individual and in

[1:09:37] relation with each other. You're not

[1:09:39] going to want to miss that. It's Sunday

[1:09:40] morning. Sundays, we start at 10:00 a.m.

[1:09:44] So, if you want to join us, we will see

[1:09:45] you Sunday, November 1st at 10:00 a.m.

[1:09:48] Also, if anybody decides to celebrate uh

[1:09:50] the night before festivities on October

[1:09:52] 31st, a little longer, give you an extra

[1:09:54] hour to sleep then. Then on Monday,

[1:09:58] November 2nd, the next day, 9:00 a.m.,

[1:10:00] we're going to connect on All Souls Day.

[1:10:03] All Souls Day is a celebration in honor

[1:10:06] of our ancestor. So we're going to be

[1:10:08] doing an ancestor meditation and healing

[1:10:12] with the reququum within.

[1:10:16] And music a reququum is a piece of

[1:10:18] composition of classical composition

[1:10:20] that's played as someone has

[1:10:22] transitioned from this body

[1:10:24] into the next world.

[1:10:27] Then we'll be back for another full moon

[1:10:30] extravaganza on Tuesday, November 24th,

[1:10:33] the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, 9:00

[1:10:35] a.m. the Beaver full moon. And this

[1:10:37] one's going to be fun because it's all

[1:10:38] about the art of selective hearing. Yes,

[1:10:42] I said that right.

[1:10:44] Selective hearing. Choosing what you let

[1:10:47] in. Which in all honesty is probably

[1:10:50] perfectly timed for the fourth session

[1:10:53] of November, which is Thursday, November

[1:10:56] 26 at 9:00 a.m. Thanksgiving Day. Join

[1:10:59] us before your if you're in the United

[1:11:01] States, before your festivities begins.

[1:11:04] and we're going to be talking about

[1:11:05] before we gather, how to honor the

[1:11:07] preparation. So, if you're on YouTube,

[1:11:10] please click subscribe, turn on

[1:11:12] notifications. If you want to make sure

[1:11:13] you don't miss anything, go to

[1:11:14] charlene.comlive.

[1:11:19] Now, I almost forgot to tell you this

[1:11:21] and I did forget to tell you this at the

[1:11:23] beginning and I apologize. We have this

[1:11:25] beautiful gift that I think y'all might

[1:11:28] really enjoy. It's called grace note.

[1:11:34] Just go to charlane.comward

[1:11:36] slgrace-note

[1:11:42] grace dashnote

[1:11:46] grace dashnote

[1:11:50] and it will take you to a page that has

[1:11:54] three powerful meditations. The first

[1:11:57] one is the grace note meditation. 3

[1:12:01] minutes before each and every meal, push

[1:12:05] play. Give yourself time to shift your

[1:12:08] physiological state through the power,

[1:12:11] the potency, the beauty of sound, change

[1:12:14] your state, change your body.

[1:12:18] When we can change how we are able to

[1:12:20] receive digestion, our digestion can

[1:12:23] strengthen, it can improve. We have

[1:12:26] shown how sound impacts the flow of the

[1:12:29] stomach. What we hear changes how our

[1:12:32] stomach moves in its natural rhythm.

[1:12:35] Allow your body to come back into a bit

[1:12:38] more of settled coherence. It just takes

[1:12:40] three minutes. You can play it on your

[1:12:42] phone. It check guys, you got to check

[1:12:44] this out because you literally how how

[1:12:47] it's been designed. It's it's amazing. I

[1:12:49] I promise you, you're going to want this

[1:12:50] on your phone. I even show you how to

[1:12:53] save this page so that you can easily

[1:12:55] come back to it anytime because it's so

[1:12:56] handy. We use it and I we I can say I

[1:13:00] love it, but

[1:13:02] all the feedback that has been coming

[1:13:03] in, people love it because it's so

[1:13:05] helpful and it only takes three minutes.

[1:13:07] You have three minutes. Give yourself

[1:13:09] three minutes before every meal.

[1:13:11] charlene.comgrace

[1:13:14] dash note. On that page, you'll read

[1:13:17] about the science that's behind it. This

[1:13:19] is connects to six different research

[1:13:23] based programs. So, you're going to see

[1:13:25] how this can actually help you. Can you

[1:13:27] tell I'm excited about it? I apologize

[1:13:29] because I'm just like super stoked about

[1:13:30] [laughter] this because it is so

[1:13:32] powerful. It's such a powerful tool. One

[1:13:34] of the practices, and I'll just share

[1:13:35] this personally, that um I started doing

[1:13:38] probably about eight months ago that has

[1:13:42] truly changed my life. It shifted my

[1:13:44] energy throughout the entire day. has

[1:13:47] been a consistent practice where every

[1:13:51] 9:00 a.m., if that went off, Jeremy, I'm

[1:13:54] sorry. 12:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 6:00

[1:13:57] p.m. Every day, four times, I take three

[1:14:00] minutes

[1:14:03] and I focus on being present. I

[1:14:06] literally have set four alarms on my

[1:14:08] phone that go off every day at 9:00

[1:14:10] a.m., 12:00 p.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. And

[1:14:14] it plays a song. It actually plays

[1:14:17] from Gladiator Now We Are Free. It's a

[1:14:20] song that has deep meaning to me. And it

[1:14:23] actually turns out to be exactly 3

[1:14:25] minutes. Works great.

[1:14:28] But I listen to it and even if I'm in a

[1:14:31] meeting

[1:14:33] during that time, I recognize, can I be

[1:14:36] more present? And that music helps me be

[1:14:39] more present.

[1:14:42] Any way that you can find tools that

[1:14:46] help you live more fully, I say go for

[1:14:50] it. So, I hope these tools are helpful

[1:14:52] to you and I can't wait to see you

[1:14:53] again. Coming back next week, actually

[1:14:56] this weekend, November 1st, next month

[1:15:00] already,

[1:15:01] [sighs]

[1:15:02] my friends, thank you for being here.

[1:15:05] You are so loved. Oh yes. Swza says,

[1:15:09] "You were so glad to. I'm so glad to

[1:15:11] have discovered you today. Thank you so

[1:15:12] much. That's very kind. I appreciate

[1:15:14] that. You say relaxing. Good. I'm so

[1:15:16] glad it was relaxing. Sarah says,

[1:15:18] "Thanks, Charlene. I'm moving in a few

[1:15:20] days and needed a harmonious start to

[1:15:23] the week." Well, may peace and perfect

[1:15:25] flow and harmony be with you every step

[1:15:27] of this way. Every step of the way of

[1:15:29] this journey. That's what my brain meant

[1:15:31] to say. Daffhany, thank you so much for

[1:15:33] this calming, grounding journey

[1:15:35] reminding us of grace, of the pause

[1:15:38] between before. Yeah, so important.

[1:15:42] Joined you from a bathtub in Berlin. I

[1:15:44] love that's like perfect flow.

[1:15:50] Good to see you, Daffany. Glad you could

[1:15:51] be here, Monica. All of your smiley

[1:15:54] faces, Daphne. Yes, Hildigard of Ban.

[1:15:57] You're not going to want to miss that.

[1:15:58] So join us on Sunday, November 1st at

[1:16:02] 1000 a.m. Eastern time. And until we

[1:16:05] meet again, know that you are loved. You

[1:16:07] are blessed. Melanie, so glad that you

[1:16:10] were here. Mary, so glad. That was very

[1:16:12] relaxing both for you and your cats.

[1:16:14] They were a little wired this morning

[1:16:16] between the moon and the planetary

[1:16:18] stuff. Indeed, so was mine. She got she

[1:16:20] got me up at 4:30 and I've been up

[1:16:21] since. We'll see how the day goes, but

[1:16:23] it's going to be great. You know why?

[1:16:24] Because I started here and with you.

[1:16:27] Thank you for being here. I send all of

[1:16:29] my love from my heart to yours. And

[1:16:30] wherever you go, wherever this journey

[1:16:32] takes you this week, know that you are

[1:16:34] loved, you are blessed, and that you

[1:16:36] move in perfect harmony

[1:16:40] always.

[1:16:43] S now.

The cephalic phase is the initial stage of digestion triggered by your senses—sight, smell, taste, and memory—before food even enters your mouth. Your brain signals your body to prepare for nourishment by activating stomach acid production, enzyme secretion, and increased blood flow to your digestive organs. This anticipatory phase accounts for up to 30% of total digestive secretion.
When you eat while stressed, your sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight) is activated, which suppresses digestive function. Stomach acid production drops, nutrient absorption decreases, and your digestive muscles tense rather than relax. You're essentially digesting your environment and stress state along with your food, which reduces how much actual nourishment your body can extract.
A grace note is a musical term for a tiny note played just before the main note arrives, changing how that arrival lands. Applied to eating, it's a deliberate three-minute pause you take before a meal to ground your nervous system into a receptive state. This pause activates the parasympathetic nervous system, optimizing your body's capacity to digest and absorb nourishment.
Before eating, pause for three minutes. Ground your attention into your body, settle into your seat, and notice your breath. Engage your senses: smell the food or beverage, notice its temperature and color, observe its texture. You might place your hands palms-up as a gesture of receptivity. This small pause signals your nervous system to shift from stress into parasympathetic activation, optimizing digestion.
Crystal singing bowls resonate at specific frequencies that influence brainwave states, heart rate variability, and vagal tone—the key nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system. The sustained frequencies help activate the nervous system state required for genuine digestion, creating an acoustic environment that supports the body's shift from reactivity into receptivity.
Absolutely. The grace note practice requires only a deliberate pause and your awareness. No crystal bowls, no special timing, no elaborate ritual is necessary. A three-minute pause at any table, with any meal, where you ground your attention and engage your senses, is enough to shift your nervous system into the receptive state your digestion requires.
Silence is not empty—it allows the nervous system to integrate and consolidate the shift into parasympathetic activation that sound initiates. After the resonance of the bowls or the sensory engagement of the grace note, silence gives your body time to fully settle and recalibrate, deepening the relaxation and receptivity necessary for optimal digestion and nourishment.
