Automatic Pass-Holder Discounts

Holders of a pass save on the add-ons and extras you choose, automatically: no code to remember, nothing to explain.

Picture the Monday immersion at a festival, booked by someone who already holds the full weekend pass. If they have to stop, dig up a code, type it in and hope it works, that is friction on top of friction, and it hands the job of remembering the deal back to the person who has already committed to being there. BrightStar's automatic pass-holder savings remove that step. You decide once, on the pass itself, what its holders save.

Setting up a saving on a pass

A saving belongs to the pass that earns it, so you set it up where you set up the pass, in the event wizard's Tickets step:

  1. 1In the event wizard's Tickets step, find the pass, for example your Premiere Pass
  2. 2Choose Give holders of this pass a discount
  3. 3Set the amount, as a percentage or a fixed amount off each item
  4. 4Choose what it applies to: whole categories such as Immersions, every add-on, particular ticket types, or merch
  5. 5Optionally limit how many discounted items each pass covers, then save

How does BrightStar recognise a pass holder?

In two ways, and the buyer does nothing in either. If the qualifying pass is in the same cart, it counts as a pass the buyer holds. If they bought the pass earlier and come back later for the immersion, the saving applies as long as they are signed in to the account that holds the pass, including a pass someone shared with them. A pass that has been cancelled or refunded in full no longer counts, and a pass already scanned at the door still does. The saving only ever applies within the same event: a Premiere Pass for this year's festival says nothing about another gathering.

Different passes, different savings

Each pass carries its own saving, so a Premiere Pass can give 20% off immersions while the regular Festival Pass gives 10%, and a single-class ticket gives nothing. Someone holding more than one qualifying pass gets the single best saving on each item. Savings never add up on top of one another, so nobody ends up with an immersion at 30% off because they happen to hold two passes.

What about discount codes?

A pass-holder saving and a discount code never stack. When both could apply, the buyer simply gets whichever saves them more, and when they come to the same amount the pass saving is used, so the code is not spent for nothing. You never have to work out in advance how a code and a pass will interact: the buyer always lands on the better of the two, and you never give away both.

The pass itself says what it is worth (Premiere Pass holders save 20% on Immersions), so the saving becomes a reason to choose the pass.

Common questions

Do pass holders need a discount code to get their saving?

No. BrightStar recognises a pass holder by the passes they hold for the event, so no code is needed. This includes a pass bought earlier by the same signed-in account.

This matters most where a code would slow someone down: booking an immersion the night before, or adding a workshop after the festival has started.

How do I give my Premiere Pass holders 20% off immersions?

In the BrightStar event wizard, go to the Tickets step and find the Premiere Pass. Choose Give holders of this pass a discount, enter 20 and choose %, then pick the Immersions category, or the individual immersions. Save the event.

Set up the regular Festival Pass the same way with 10%. Anyone without a qualifying pass pays the listed price.

Does the saving work if someone bought their pass weeks ago?

Yes, as long as they are signed in to the account that holds the pass when they come back to BrightStar.

A pass that was cancelled or refunded in full does not count.

Can a pass-holder saving be combined with a discount code?

No. In BrightStar, when both a pass saving and a discount code could apply, the buyer gets whichever saves them more; on a tie the pass saving is used so the code stays unspent.

Never stacking keeps your pricing predictable: you know the most any buyer can save on an item is the larger of the two, never both together.

What can a pass-holder saving apply to?

In BrightStar, a pass-holder saving can apply to whole ticket categories, every add-on on the event, particular ticket types or add-ons you choose, and merch from your product library. You can also limit how many discounted items each pass covers.

A pass never discounts itself, and two passes cannot be set up to discount each other; BrightStar points that out as you edit so the setup always makes sense.

Is the discount taken off the early-bird price or the full price?

BrightStar takes the saving off the price the item costs at that moment. If the item uses price steps, the saving comes off the current step.

The saving follows the item's real price, so a 20% saving is always 20% of what the buyer would otherwise pay that day.
