Descrizione
Imagine a week where the noise of the world falls away, and you're held in silence with others who share your lineage, your lived experience, and your longing for inner peace. Liberating the Heart is a transformative silent meditation retreat designed specifically for self-identified womxn of Black African Ancestry—a rare and sacred container created at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California. Using the Seven Gates of Awakening as a contemplative framework, this retreat invites you to investigate your own mind with genuine curiosity while cultivating deep tranquility and compassion toward yourself and others.
This is not a passive experience. Over seven days, you'll move through periods of sitting meditation, walking meditation, and embodied movement practices, guided by experienced teachers who understand both the dharma and the particular wisdom of your own healing journey. The retreat balances rigorous inquiry with wise rest—no rushing, no pushing—creating the conditions for clarity to naturally emerge. Many participants arrive carrying the weight of systemic pain, intergenerational trauma, or simply the exhaustion of navigating the world in their bodies. By the end of the week, attendees often report a profound settling in the heart, a quieting of the mind, and a renewed sense of agency over their own inner freedom.
What makes this retreat distinctive is the intentional silence, the small-group and individual instruction from experienced teachers, and the rhythm that honors both discipline and gentleness. The pace—alternating between formal sitting, walking, and somatic movement—creates a steadiness in both body and mind that allows wisdom to surface naturally.
What to Expect
You'll arrive at Spirit Rock's upper meditation campus and settle into a structured daily rhythm. Each day includes multiple periods of sitting meditation, guided walking meditation, dharma teachings that illuminate the Seven Gates framework, and gentle embodied movement. Teachers offer individual meetings and small-group instruction tailored to your experience and needs. The silence—observed except for essential communication and teachings—becomes increasingly spacious and restorative as the week unfolds. You'll have adequate rest time, simple nourishing meals, and support from both the teaching team and fellow practitioners. By the final days, many participants experience a natural clarity, a softening in the heart, and renewed access to their own inner compass. You leave with practical tools for sustained practice and a felt sense of what inner freedom can be.
