Susie Ro is a singer-songwriter, voice coach, ceremonial singer, song-leader trainer and composer for choirs. She is also a performing and recording artist. Her Insight Timer page adds that she teaches meditation and Yoga Nidra. She tours internationally with song-leader trainings, concerts, harmony singing workshops and retreats. She also offers eCourses and online mentoring, so people can work with her from anywhere.
Susie was born in New Zealand and moved to the UK when she was 9. Music and harmony songs surrounded her childhood, and she apparently could sing before she could talk. Her greatest inspiration and teacher was her father, Nick Prater. She started leading groups and choirs at 18, inspired by her years at Unicorn Natural Voice Camp, and she was educated at a Steiner Waldorf school.
As a performer, she blends folk, spirit-music, soul and global influences in what she calls medicine music. Her concerts are intimate and often bring the whole room into song with her. As a teacher, she is known for a warm, inclusive approach. Singers of all levels are encouraged to explore their voices, connect with others and build confidence and self-expression.
She describes her songs as coming to her, or through her, in moments of inner realisation, deep emotion or reverence for nature, often as a way of letting go of something she was holding. Her debut harmony songbook gathers 22 original songs and arrangements for choirs, singing groups and community gatherings.
Susie lives in Dartington, Devon, with her partner Jack. After almost 15 years of a packed schedule of events and travel, she now says yes to only a few invitations each year. She is working on her second studio album with Txai Fernando in Norway.
