Imagine moving your body beneath the glow of the Full Sturgeon Moon—not in isolation, but in sacred community, guided by the co-founders of Afro Flow Yoga and accompanied by live drumming that pulses through your chest and awakens your soul. This three-day yoga retreat at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health invites you to step into a transformative practice that honors ancestral wisdom, rhythmic movement, and the power of collective healing.
Co-led by Leslie Salmon Jones and Jeff W. Jones, Afro Flow Yoga weaves together African Diaspora dance, breathwork, live music, and embodied storytelling to create a practice unlike any traditional yoga class. Taking place on the ancestral Mohegan homelands in Stockbridge, MA, this retreat uses the Sturgeon Moon's natural associations with abundance, intuition, and emotional renewal as an organizing principle—a celestial mirror for the inner work you'll be doing. With musicians Morley Kamen and Stan Strickland anchoring each session with their vocal and instrumental collaborations, you'll experience yoga as a full-bodied, multi-sensory awakening.
Whether you arrive carrying tension in your shoulders, unprocessed grief in your heart, or simply a hunger to reconnect with your body and community, this weekend offers a container for authentic release and renewal. Through daily classes, storytelling circles, nature-based rituals, and reflective practices, you'll learn to move with intention, listen deeply, and cultivate the grounded presence that arises when rhythm meets breath meets ancestral remembrance.
What to Expect
Each day unfolds as an immersive arc: begin with sunrise or morning Afro Flow Yoga classes that honor both strength and fluidity, guided by Leslie and Jeff's teaching. Mid-day sessions weave in live drumming, breathwork, and circle-based rituals that invite reflection and emotional release. Evenings feature storytelling, vocal and instrumental performances, and restorative practices beneath the moonlight. The atmosphere is one of sacred community—spacious, joyful, and intentional. You'll leave with a deeper embodied understanding of how rhythm, movement, and ancestral connection dissolve the patterns we hold in our bodies, and a visceral sense of belonging to something larger than yourself.
