Descripción
Over four transformative days in the heart of Tuscany, you'll develop a radical new relationship with two of humanity's most primal emotions: anger and fear. Rather than pushing these forces away or letting them run your life, this retreat teaches you to observe them with clear-eyed precision—to understand their architecture, trace their triggers, and ultimately free yourself from their grip. The Cultivating Emotional Balance program, developed at the direct request of the Dalai Lama by pioneering psychologist Paul Ekman and contemplative scholar Alan Wallace, brings together cutting-edge neuroscience with 2,500 years of Buddhist wisdom. At the serene Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa in Pomaia, Tuscany, you'll discover that these emotions aren't your enemy—they're teachers, and this retreat is your guided initiation into their language.
If you've ever felt hijacked by anger or paralyzed by fear, this retreat offers something rare: a scientifically validated, experientially grounded path forward. You'll learn not through theory alone, but through sustained meditation practice, somatic awareness, and the cultivation of genuine compassion—for yourself and others. By the end of these four days, you'll carry home practical tools that transform reactivity into clarity, resentment into equanimity, and anxiety into presence.
What to Expect
This is a structured yet deeply introspective retreat. Each day weaves together guided meditation, Buddhist philosophical study, and contemporary psychological insight. You'll learn to recognize anger and fear in their subtle and obvious forms, trace the beliefs and stories that fuel them, and practice proven antidotes: loving-kindness, equanimity, and empathetic joy. The program emphasizes precision—you're not here to transcend or bypass these emotions, but to meet them fully, understand their roots, and cultivate the inner stability to respond rather than react. Group reflection, partner work, and periods of silence create a held container for deep personal work. Whether you're new to meditation or experienced, the curriculum meets you where you are, offering both accessibility and depth.
