About This Event

Description

Imagine spending five days in one of California's most sacred settings—perched on the cliffs of Big Sur—where a Buddhist teacher, a neuroscientist, and a world-class cellist guide you through the deepest dimensions of your own mind. The Buddha, the Brain, and Bach is not another meditation workshop. It is an immersive exploration of how contemplative practice, scientific understanding, and artistic expression converge to reshape your brain, deepen your capacity for connection, and awaken genuine insight into the nature of mind and life.

Led by beloved Buddhist teacher Nikki Mirghafori, neuroscientist Clifford Saron, and cellist Barbara Bogatin, this five-day event weaves together Buddhist meditation teachings, contemporary brain science, and the transformative power of classical music. Through guided meditation in samatha (concentration), vipassana (insight), and metta (loving-kindness) practices, you'll discover not just why these traditions work, but how they literally reshape neural pathways. Live cello performances punctuate each day, offering a living bridge between inner silence and outer beauty. Whether you're a longtime meditator, a curious musician, a healthcare professional, or simply someone seeking deeper self-understanding, this workshop meets you exactly where you are—no prior experience required.

The five days unfold thematically, each exploring a different intersection of mind, music, and life. You'll learn how mindfulness informs musical expression, how your brain responds to both meditation and music, and how these ancient and modern disciplines offer concrete, lived pathways toward inner stability, resilience, and genuine engagement with others. By the end, you'll carry home not just knowledge, but embodied wisdom and practical tools for transformation.

What to Expect

Each day blends structured meditation sessions, neuroscientific inquiry, and live musical performance in an intimate, supportive atmosphere. Mornings begin with guided practice—concentration, insight, or loving-kindness meditation—led by Nikki Mirghafori, with opportunities to deepen your technique and ask questions. Afternoons integrate Clifford Saron's latest research on how meditation rewires the brain, followed by in-person cello performances by Barbara Bogatin that illuminate the lived expression of what you've just practiced and learned. Small group discussions and personal reflection time create space for integration. You leave with a clearer understanding of your mind's capacity for change, practical meditation skills you can sustain at home, and an embodied sense of how contemplative and artistic practice nourish each other and deepen human connection.
