Imagine stepping into a room where there are no wrong notes, no mistakes—only the authentic expression of your own voice and the voices of others joining in collective creation. Music for Everyone invites you into exactly that space. For four decades, Music for People has championed a radical belief: that musicality is not a gift reserved for the talented few, but a birthright belonging to everyone. This six-day workshop, led by seasoned facilitators David Rudge and Mary E. Knysh, gathers seekers at the serene Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY to explore improvisation as both an artistic practice and a living metaphor for how we move through the world.
Whether you've never sung in public, always wanted to drum, or simply feel called to explore the healing power of spontaneous music-making, this workshop meets you exactly where you are. Through drumming, chanting, rhythmic grooving, and vocal improvisation—all without the pressure of "getting it right"—you'll discover that musicality lives within you. The real work isn't technical; it's about deep listening, courageous response, quieting your inner critic, and trusting the magic that emerges when individual efforts dissolve into collective co-creation. Participants consistently report that the confidence and playfulness cultivated here ripple far beyond the workshop room, reshaping how they listen, respond, and create in their daily lives.
What to Expect
Over six days in Rhinebeck's contemplative setting, you'll participate in spontaneous music-making sessions that feel more like play than practice. The workshop emphasizes listening—to yourself, to others, to the spaces between sounds—as the foundation for authentic expression. Led by David Rudge and Mary E. Knysh, the group works through drumming circles, call-and-response chanting, rhythmic grooving, and vocal exploration. There is no "right way" to participate; the invitation is to show up honestly, respond intuitively, and trust the process.
You'll leave with:
- A visceral understanding that you are musical
- Tools for deep, receptive listening in and out of music
- Experience of co-creation and collective flow
- Renewed playfulness and confidence that extend into daily life
- A community of fellow seekers who've shared this vulnerable, joyful journey
No prior musical training or experience is required. All ages and skill levels are genuinely welcome.
