breathworkGrof® Breathwork: Homecoming
Grof® Breathwork, developed in the 1980s by Stanislav and Christina Grof at Esalen, uses accelerated breathing, evocative music, and supported somatic release to open pathways to expanded states of consciousness. Participants engage with the practice in two roles over the three-day workshop: first as a breather, moving through deep inner work with breath and sound, and then as a sitter, offering compassionate witnessing to another's process. Each session lasts approximately three hours. Friday evening begins with comprehensive preparation, grounding participants in the method's foundations and safety protocols. Between sessions, integration unfolds through group reflection, movement classes, and time in Big Sur's natural landscape. This workshop takes place on the land where holotropic breathwork was born, offering participants an opportunity to engage with the practice in its original context. Facilitator Marianne Murray trained directly with Stanislav Grof during the 1990s and brings both technical expertise and depth of transpersonal psychology to the work.
