A BrightStar fundraiser is a campaign page with a goal, a progress bar, rewards and updates. Use it to fund an album, a temple or studio build, seed money for a festival, or a charity drive.

It is built like an event: you create it in the same event wizard, and backers pay through the same checkout as tickets. You keep what you raise. There is no all-or-nothing rule: every gift is paid to you as it comes in, even if the campaign ends below its goal.

Starting a fundraiser

Open Events → Create event.

  1. 1On the first step, under "What are you creating?", choose A fundraiser.
  2. 2On the campaign step, pick the day the campaign opens and the last day people can give. It opens at the start of the first day and closes at the end of the last day, in the timezone you choose. A campaign can run for up to 365 days.
  3. 3Set your goal and its currency.
  4. 4Choose Rewards campaign or Charity drive. For a charity drive, name who you are raising for and describe the cause.
  5. 5There is no venue step: the campaign page is the place.
  6. 6On the Tickets step, add your rewards, then tap Add a donation tier so people can give any amount.
  7. 7Publish.

Rewards and the donation tier

Each ticket type is a reward, such as "$25 Digital album" or "$75 Album and a ticket to the release concert". The donation tier uses the pay-what-you-can pricing, so backers choose their own amount.

If a reward includes a ticket to another of your events, describe it in the reward and send the ticket or a discount code to those backers yourself when the time comes.

What backers see

The campaign page replaces the date and venue blocks of a normal event page.

How the total is counted

The amount raised is what backers paid for rewards and donations, less discount codes and refunds. A refund comes off the total, and a cancelled or abandoned checkout never counts. It is worked out from your orders each time the page loads, so it is always current.

When the campaign ends

At the end of the last day every reward closes and the page reads "Campaign ended: raised X of Y". You can still post updates to your backers after it ends.

Updates and your backers

From your event dashboard, the Overview tab shows a Fundraiser panel.

  1. 1See the amount raised, the goal and every backer with their reward and amount.
  2. 2Tap Export CSV for a spreadsheet of your backers.
  3. 3Write an update and tap Post update. It appears on your campaign page.
  4. 4Tick "Also email it" to send it to every backer. One emailed update per campaign per day: posts in between show on the page only.
Nobody appears on the wall without choosing to. A backer signs in to BrightStar with the email they gave with and taps "Add your name". The wall shows their first name and last initial, such as "Maya R.", never an email or an amount. You can switch the wall off on the campaign step.
Pledges carry the same fees as ticket sales on your plan, and are paid to your connected Stripe account like any other sale. BrightStar does not pay money to a third party on your behalf: on a charity drive, the funds come to you and you pass them on. BrightStar issues no donation receipts.

Common questions

Can I run a crowdfunding campaign on BrightStar?

Yes. In the BrightStar event wizard, choose A fundraiser on the first step. You set a goal, the days the campaign runs, rewards and a give-any-amount tier, and BrightStar builds a campaign page with a progress bar, backers, updates and share buttons.

Backers pay through the same checkout as BrightStar tickets, so there is nothing new to set up for payments. Fundraisers are listed in their own row on the Discover page rather than among upcoming gatherings.

Do I keep the money if my BrightStar fundraiser does not reach its goal?

Yes. BrightStar fundraisers are keep-what-you-raise: every gift is paid to the organizer as it is made, with the same fees as ticket sales, whether or not the goal is reached.

Who receives the money from a charity drive on BrightStar?

The organizer who runs the campaign. You can name the person or cause you are raising for, and the page says the gifts are paid to you; BrightStar does not pay third parties and issues no donation receipts.

How is the amount raised calculated on a BrightStar fundraiser?

The amount raised on a BrightStar fundraiser is what backers paid for rewards and donations, less discount codes and refunds. A refunded pledge comes off the total, and abandoned or cancelled checkouts never count.

Can I email my backers from BrightStar?

Yes. Post an update from the Fundraiser panel on your BrightStar event dashboard and tick "Also email it" to send it to every backer. One emailed update is allowed per campaign per day; other updates still appear on the campaign page.
