Sing Us Alive in Sacred Waters

Sing Us Alive in Sacred Waters is an evening of spiritual music and communal singing at Harbin Hot Springs in Middletown, California, led by vocalist and Kundalini yoga teacher Kiranjot Kaur. It suits anyone drawn to kirtan, mantra singing and devotional music, whether you already sing in a circle or simply want to be near the sound of voices raised together.

The gathering is held on Sunday evenings at 7:30, and it is offered more than once in the fall and winter season. It sits within Kiranjot's wider calendar of kirtan, sacred song and weekly voice classes across Sonoma and Marin counties, but this is the one that takes place at the hot springs.

What to Expect

This is a kirtan-style evening, built on call and response and shared voice rather than on a performer facing a silent audience. That approach is central to how Kiranjot teaches. She draws on her early experience of communal singing with Sweet Honey in the Rock and Bobby McFerrin, her love of Indian music, and the Kirtan tradition, and she brings them together in a way that invites everyone in the room to sing.

Kiranjot's path includes Kundalini mantras, so you can expect sacred song in that lineage alongside original songs she has written. The evening begins at 7:30.

About Kiranjot Kaur

Kiranjot Kaur is a vocalist, Kundalini Yoga teacher and Indian classical music instructor, with a deep devotion to the Divine Mother and A Course in Miracles. She is a founding member of Copper Wimmin, a group that gained recognition through appearances on Democracy Now and the Showtime series The L Word, where their song "Bleeding Rivers" was featured.

In 2006 she refocused her career on Indian classical music and spent five years living and studying in Amritsar, India, under her teacher Dr. Ustad Narindar Singh. Since then she has moved away from the traditional concert format in favor of communal singing.

She was introduced to A Course in Miracles in 2014 and has steadily brought its daily lessons into her life.

Kiranjot's Mantra & Song Book gathers 40 Kundalini mantras with English lyrics added by Kiranjot Kaur, along with translations, as well as original sacred songs she has written. She welcomes people to share and sing the songs, and asks that you credit the author or authors when you do.

No prior experience with kirtan or Kundalini yoga is described as a requirement, and the songbook is a gentle way to arrive already familiar with the words.
