Deva Premal & Miten: The Gayatri Gathering

Deva Premal & Miten: The Gayatri Gathering is a week-long mantra retreat and chanting festival at Blue Spirit Costa Rica, built around the Gayatri Mantra. It is open to anyone drawn to kirtan, Sanskrit mantra and meditation, and it is led by the Grammy-nominated chant artists Deva Premal and Miten. Days move between communal sacred song, Osho's meditations and unhurried time by the ocean.

What to Expect

The Gayatri is an ancient prayer to the Light that dwells within us all, and the gathering is shaped as a celebration of communal participation. Each morning begins with Ecstatic Chant, a deep dive into the Gayatri through music, mantra, meditation and shared sacred song.

The schedule leaves generous room between sessions. People swim in the ocean, walk the beach, talk with new friends and eat vegetarian meals. Afternoon sessions offer Osho's meditations. In the evening the group gathers again for ecstatic chant, closing the day with the mantra OM as a preparation for restful sleep.

A typical day looks like this:

The tone is warm and inclusive. Deva and Miten describe the week as a place for laughter and tears, busy lives and old pain alike, and their invitation is that all is welcome. A past participant wrote of crying healing tears on the first day and feeling their heart open more and more over the week.

About Deva Premal

Deva Premal was born in Germany in 1970 and is a kirtan singer and mantra vocalist. Her recordings of Sanskrit devotional chants have reached listeners across five continents. Her lineage draws from Osho, whose emphasis on meditation and conscious living shaped her understanding of sound as a gateway to inner awareness. She approaches Sanskrit mantras as precise acoustic and spiritual technologies, and her work sits within the bhakti tradition, the path of devotion.

About Deva Premal & Miten

Deva Premal and Miten are a Grammy-nominated duo who describe themselves as chant artists, sharing music, mantras and meditations. They met in an Indian ashram in 1990 and have spent some 25 years at the forefront of Sanskrit chanting, travelling the world as teachers, musicians and chant masters. Their albums have sold over 1.5 million copies, and they draw more than a million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Mantra is at the center of their work. They have written a mantra book, In the Garden of the Mystic, and No Water No Moon: A Pilgrimage, and they offer a mantra course and an online community, the Gayatri Sangha. They perform with the Deva Premal & Miten Band. Their Gayatri Fund supports compassion in action in Nepal.

The Setting

The gathering takes place at Blue Spirit Costa Rica, beside the ocean, where the waves and the beach are part of the daily rhythm. Meals are vegetarian.

Before You Go

No level of chanting or meditation experience is specified, and the sessions are communal, so the format suits people at many stages of practice. The gathering is held in English and draws on Vedic, Sanskrit mantra and Osho traditions. Morning ecstatic chant, afternoon Osho meditation sessions and evening chant sessions are all part of the program, and vegetarian food is served throughout the week.
