The Śvetāśvatara Upanishad asks a question most people never get around to: if the whole universe comes out of one reality, what is that reality, and what does it mean for the individual who lives inside the show? In a class recorded by the Vedanta Society of Southern California, Swami Sarvadevananda works through verses 4.7 to 4.9 and keeps returning to one image most listeners know from childhood: a spider spinning a web out of its own body. That image carries the passage's whole argument. God is at once the maker and the material of creation, the universe is projected through maya, and the soul's grief comes from forgetting that it sits on the same tree as the Lord. What follows walks through those ideas, why the teacher calls the spider the closest analogy to Advaita Vedanta, and where meditation fits in.

How does a class on this text open?

The recording begins the way many traditional readings do, with Om and a short chant: all that is invisible is filled by Brahman, all that is visible is fully permeated by Brahman, and the whole universe has come out of the whole Brahman, which remains full. The reading is then picked up with the verses under discussion, and the teacher immediately tries to get the room to feel the scale of what is being claimed. He pauses often. He clears his throat, asks "Huh?" when a phrase needs repeating, and stops to make sure the Sanskrit terms are landing. The rhythm matters. This is not a lecture delivered from a distance but a slow reading in which every word of the verse gets turned over before the next one is read.

The verses themselves, as posted with the video, cover three moves. Verse 4.7 describes two states on "the same tree": the individual self, deluded and grieving, and the same self recognizing the other as the Lord, at which point grief falls away. Verse 4.8 says that for one who does not know this Lord, in whom all gods rest, the Vedas themselves are of no use. Verse 4.9 names the sacred verses, sacrifices, penances, and the past and future, and says all of them come from the imperishable Brahman, which projects the universe through its maya while the jiva becomes entangled in that same maya.

What does "causeless cause" actually mean?

The phrase that anchors the class is the teacher's description of the ultimate reality as the "causeless cause of everything." Around 1:12 he puts it plainly: "There is no other cause." Everything we know in the world of cause and effect has a prior cause, but Brahman is the cause at which the chain stops. He is the ground of all existence and all manifestation, the controller of the senses, and the lord of the gods, whom the teacher reads through the Sanskrit as the Lord of Lords.

The teacher also insists that this reality is both personal and impersonal. The distinction between Nirguna and Saguna Brahman is the hinge. In the Nirguna view there is no causality, no creation, no duality at all. The moment you look at the universe and ask who caused it, you have moved into Saguna Brahman, the qualified reality that can be called the creator. As he puts it in the recording, "When you call talk about creation, there comes cause." The question of cause is not a feature of the absolute. It is what happens when the absolute is seen through the world.

The Upanishad adds that this power has three aspects, which the teacher names as jnana shakti (knowledge), bala shakti (strength), and kriya shakti (action). Knowledge, strength, and action are not separate powers handed to the Lord from outside. They are the Lord's own. The verse insists there is no master above him and no sign by which his nature can be fully captured, since everything we define by signs belongs to the relative world.

Why does the carpenter's table matter here?

The most useful move in the class is the teacher's ordinary example of how things get made. Every object in the dualistic world, he says, needs two kinds of cause. A building needs stone, brick, wood, nails, and glue, which is the material cause. It also needs someone to put those materials together, the efficient cause. "Carpenter created this table, but carpenter is not the table," he says. The carpenter stands apart from what he makes. He uses wood and his intelligence, and the wood does not become the carpenter.

Here the teacher marks the point where ordinary craft breaks down as an analogy for God. If God created the world the way a carpenter builds a table, we would have to ask where the wood came from. The Upanishad refuses that question. The creation is made from the Lord's own element. The teacher's way of stating it is that God is the material and the maker at once: "It is made of the same consciousness as before creation and after creation, same." In the terms he uses, the nimitta karana (efficient cause) and the upadana karana (material cause) "are the same reality." That is the unusual claim of the passage, and it is the claim the spider is brought in to make visible.

How does a spider explain God creating from himself?

Around 9:22 the teacher reaches what he calls the closest example in the world of our knowledge. "Spider makes a net. How he makes? Some other element? No. His own secretion. It is his own body." The web is made from the spider's own constituent elements. Nothing is borrowed. The spider is not a carpenter using outside wood, and the web is not a separate thing standing beside the spider. In his words, the spider "is the only closest example of Advaita Vedanta," because it draws the thread out of itself.

"Spider makes a net. How he makes? Some other element? No. His own secretion. It is his own body." (Swami Sarvadevananda, Vedanta Society of Southern California class, approx. 9:22)

The analogy also covers the full cycle. The teacher treats creation, maintenance, and withdrawal as a single movement: the spider spins, holds the web, and draws it back into itself. He calls this the evolution and involution of the cosmos, the universe coming out of and returning into Brahman. Around 10:23 he presses the point: "God can withdraw anytime." The spider's limitation is that it can pull the web back only in a moment, a fact the teacher uses to show the difference. The Lord has no such limit, so the creation can rise from him and return to him without any loss of his fullness.

A listener in the room raises the obvious objection: the spider does not remain in the web the way a maker remains in a product. The teacher agrees the example is limited, and his answer is that the analogy works on a different level. The thread comes from the spider's body, and the universe is the Lord's own manifestation. The analogy is not meant to be a complete account. It is a rational bridge, which the teacher says is "subject to meditation." The image is to be held, returned to, and contemplated until its meaning changes from a fact about insects into a fact about one's own nature.

What is maya, and why is the individual self caught in it?

Verse 4.9 uses maya in two places. Brahman projects the universe through its maya, and within that universe the Brahman as jiva is entangled through maya. The same reality appears twice: once as the one who projects and once as the one who gets caught in the projection. The teacher's reading keeps both sides in view. Around 22:40 he speaks of the basic error in plain terms: "And we think we are separate." That sense of separateness is what the verse calls ignorance, the forgetting of the self's identity with the divine Self.

This is where verse 4.7 becomes personal. The image of two states on one tree describes the jiva sunk in grief, deluded by its ego and bewildered by forgetting its identity. The grief is not an accident of circumstance. It is the natural result of mistaking oneself for a separate ego. The shift the verse describes happens when the individual sees the Lord and the Lord's glory, and that seeing removes the grief. Freedom from sorrow, in this reading, is not a reward added later. It is the same act of recognition, seen from the inside.

How does meditation change the way we see creation?

Near the end of the recording, around 58:14, the teacher connects the theory with practice. He says the process of meditation is what the tradition calls buddhi shuddhi, the purification of the intellect, and that when this purification happens "mind will be pure." The argument is consistent with the rest of the class. A mind clouded by ego sees a world of separate objects and grieves over them. A mind made clear by steady contemplation begins to see the consciousness that is common to the carpenter, the table, the spider, and the web.

The teacher's approach is not to ask the listener to believe a claim about cosmology. The spider, the carpenter, and the tree are all offered as things to observe and reflect on. The question he keeps asking, through the reading, is the question the verses raise: what is behind all of this? His answer is always the same. The consciousness behind the world is the same consciousness that is aware of it, and seeing that is the end of grief.

Where to go from here

The best next step is to read verses 4.7 through 4.9 slowly, with the translation posted alongside the video. Notice the three places where the verses shift from the Lord to the individual and back again. Then watch the full class to hear the teacher's reading of the Sanskrit terms, especially the nimitta and upadana distinction and the three powers of knowledge, strength, and action. Finally, take the spider image into a quiet moment and ask the question the teacher keeps asking: if the web is made of the spider's own body, where does the spider end and the web begin?

[0:11] Om.

[0:12] All those that are invisible

[0:15] are filled by Brahman.

[0:17] All those that are visible

[0:20] are also fully permeated by Brahman.

[0:24] The whole universe has come out of the

[0:26] whole Brahman.

[0:28] Brahman is still full.

[0:30] Although

[0:32] the whole universe

[0:34] has come out of it.

[0:36] Om peace, peace, peace.

[0:39] So, we are back to the reading of

[0:43] the Svetasvatara Upanishad, sixth

[0:45] chapter.

[0:48] >> [clears throat]

[0:49] >> It was very inspiring place.

[0:53] It's talking about that ultimate

[0:55] reality.

[0:57] He is personal personal God and he's

[1:00] also impersonal.

[1:02] Impersonal

[1:05] he is the causeless cause

[1:08] of everything. Causeless cause.

[1:12] There is no other cause.

[1:20] So,

[1:22] that's why he says tam ishanam paramam

[1:25] maheshvaram.

[1:27] That reality is the ishanam among the

[1:31] isha. Isha means who controls men

[1:34] and

[1:35] that directs and

[1:36] who manages things. He is the lord of

[1:39] all the isha.

[1:42] Paramam maheshvaram, the supreme

[1:44] maheshvar.

[1:46] Devatanam paramam to devatam.

[1:49] He is all the gods, the effulgent

[1:52] beings, the devatas are there. He is the

[1:55] god of all gods.

[1:58] And he is the putting, putting on

[2:01] paramam,

[2:02] the supreme

[2:05] the ruler of all rulers.

[2:13] It never gets

[2:14] this light is off.

[2:17] This light.

[2:21] Huh?

[2:22] Oh.

[2:27] So,

[2:28] >> [clears throat]

[2:30] >> So, you have to realize that truth

[2:33] which is described in so many ways.

[2:37] That means it is the ground of all

[2:38] existence,

[2:40] ground of all manifestation.

[2:43] The controller of all the senses. Devata

[2:46] means also senses, dev dhatu.

[2:49] Indriyas, the senses.

[2:51] And also the gods, Indra, Chandra,

[2:53] Varuna, and all the different gods.

[2:57] And natasya karyam na karanam vidyate,

[3:01] there is no

[3:02] one. Everything has a cause.

[3:06] But for him, there is no cause. He is

[3:09] the fundamental cause out of which all

[3:11] causality came.

[3:16] Parasya shakti, his power is supreme

[3:19] power, shriyate.

[3:21] And there natural

[3:23] jnana bala kriya.

[3:25] Jnana shakti,

[3:27] bala shakti, kriya shakti. Jnana

[3:30] knowledge,

[3:31] buddhi shakti, huh?

[3:33] Kriya shakti, action, the power

[3:36] all power behind all actions.

[3:40] And the bala, the strength

[3:42] behind

[3:44] the power all all strength.

[3:48] Nakasya na again emphasizing the same

[3:51] thing on verse number nine we read last

[3:53] time. Natasya kaschit patir asti loke.

[3:57] There is no puti, the master,

[4:01] excepting that reality. Is that maybe

[4:04] Saguna Brahman

[4:06] is talking about coming down one step

[4:08] from the Nirguna stage.

[4:11] Because if you say

[4:13] Nirguna, there is no causality behind

[4:16] and there is no creation.

[4:19] When you call talk about creation,

[4:21] there comes cause. Who caused this

[4:24] creation?

[4:26] If it is Brahman, there is no creation,

[4:28] no causality.

[4:31] There's no duality, nothing. But when

[4:33] you see this universe,

[4:35] then there is a cause.

[4:37] What is the cause of this entire

[4:38] universe?

[4:39] Then we say, "Oh, it is the God is the

[4:41] cause." So, he is that he is that God

[4:44] controller,

[4:46] but not Sakasit, there is no other

[4:49] who can

[4:51] control that or who can master over him.

[4:56] Nacha Ishita Naiva Tasya Lingam.

[5:00] There is no ruler above him.

[5:03] And Tasya Lingam, the sign,

[5:07] there is no sign by which you can

[5:08] determine this is this.

[5:10] Everything is defined by some signs

[5:13] and some

[5:16] particular

[5:17] symbologies.

[5:19] But you cannot compare

[5:21] that absolute reality, not the absolute

[5:24] Saguna Brahman.

[5:26] So, he is Saguna, he is Nirguna. He is

[5:28] now talking about the Saguna Brahman.

[5:30] He is the cause of all creation.

[5:33] There is no other cause behind. He is

[5:35] the ruler of all rulers. There is no

[5:37] other ruler behind him.

[5:40] And he is the

[5:43] Na Karana Na Sakarana

[5:46] Karana Adhipo Adhipo.

[5:48] Na Tasya Kaschit Janita.

[5:51] There is no

[5:53] originator.

[5:55] He is the

[5:56] originator of everything.

[5:58] He is the lord of all. That means what

[6:00] is always saying

[6:02] that how to feel that that power,

[6:04] infinite power,

[6:06] behind all this material manifestation,

[6:10] behind all this creation. It is that

[6:12] power is the power of

[6:15] He given the example how he but it is

[6:16] not like that

[6:18] that it is

[6:20] He has created the universe by himself.

[6:23] By his own element that is

[6:26] naturally

[6:27] as we discuss again and again

[6:29] that for any anything to create

[6:32] there will be efficient cause, material

[6:35] cause. Two causes are there.

[6:37] Material cause is the matter.

[6:41] With which you create the object. See,

[6:43] building is created

[6:45] with so many stone, bricks, or wood, or

[6:50] um

[6:50] taco, or whatever. All these

[6:53] elements, this uh nail, and

[6:57] um

[6:57] glue.

[6:59] And there's some person who is actively

[7:02] engaged in it to create this.

[7:05] So,

[7:07] mate- matter is necessary material

[7:09] cause,

[7:11] and efficient cause.

[7:13] There should be somebody

[7:15] who

[7:16] did that with the material.

[7:18] That's called the efficient cause,

[7:21] and material cause. So, anything in this

[7:23] world,

[7:24] world of duality, created by someone

[7:27] created that

[7:29] with the help of some other items.

[7:32] Carpenter created this table,

[7:34] but carpenter is not the table.

[7:38] Carpenter is separate.

[7:40] Table has been created by him with the

[7:42] material things, and with his

[7:44] intelligence.

[7:46] But

[7:48] carpenter has not entered into it.

[7:52] But this world is created like that.

[7:55] God created the world.

[7:58] How? What are the other elements? Where

[8:00] did he get it?

[8:02] He said, "No, it is by his own element."

[8:05] There's a unique approach to reality.

[8:10] What you see in this creation, it is he.

[8:13] Or you can say she, or you can eat,

[8:15] whatever.

[8:18] I am seeing you.

[8:20] If it is created, we are all created.

[8:23] With flesh and bone, I see. No, it is

[8:26] made of the same consciousness

[8:29] as before creation and after creation,

[8:31] same.

[8:34] This very

[8:36] unique idea.

[8:39] Nimitta karanam

[8:41] upadana karanam

[8:43] Both are the same reality.

[8:46] You cannot find an example in the

[8:49] world of our exi- our knowledge

[8:51] knowledgeable world, but there is one

[8:53] example the Upanishads sages

[8:56] have found out one example.

[8:58] Spider.

[9:01] Spider makes a net.

[9:04] How he makes?

[9:05] Some other element?

[9:07] No.

[9:08] His own secretion. It is his own body.

[9:13] And entire design is done by

[9:17] the spider

[9:18] made out of his own

[9:22] constituent element of the body.

[9:26] And you know

[9:27] it can withdraw also.

[9:29] There is a beautiful example of God

[9:31] creation

[9:33] maintenance and withdrawal.

[9:35] Destruction.

[9:37] This three idea can be found in the wave

[9:39] example. They they Nae, what is called

[9:42] the

[9:43] the tantu tantu nava

[9:47] uh

[9:51] spider.

[9:54] So, spider is the only closest example

[9:57] of Advaita Vedanta.

[10:00] Because

[10:02] spider brings out the juicy thing

[10:05] and makes his thread-like thing. He

[10:07] hangs hangs hangs hangs.

[10:09] And if you at this period of

[10:11] construction you strike him or he gets

[10:14] he withdraws instantly he can withdraw.

[10:17] That's the limitation of the spider.

[10:20] But God's limitation is not there. So

[10:23] God can withdraw anytime.

[10:26] The creation is out of him. Withdrawal

[10:29] also into him.

[10:32] That is called the evolution and

[10:33] involution of the entire cosmos.

[10:36] It comes from the body of Brahma.

[10:39] Saguna Brahman

[10:41] and withdraws into it again. It

[10:43] manifests and withdraws.

[10:46] That's the example just to just to don't

[10:50] do not

[10:51] don't do be

[10:54] Huh? As the spider just as the spider

[10:58] does the threads drawn from its own

[11:01] navel

[11:03] grant us absorption in Brahman like

[11:05] that. No, it has come from let us see

[11:08] that. It is all Brahman, all one

[11:11] reality.

[11:14] >> I mean it's an example so obviously it's

[11:15] limited but the example the the spider

[11:18] doesn't put its being into the web.

[11:21] >> Its being it means that the thread is

[11:23] coming from his body.

[11:25] >> Its its its ongoing existence is not in

[11:27] the in the web anymore but of course

[11:30] >> No.

[11:31] >> Saguna Brahman is in the in the

[11:33] universe.

[11:34] >> And and then and the spider is in the

[11:36] universe also. In in his entire web who

[11:39] who what is that? It is only the spider

[11:41] itself.

[11:43] The spider

[11:45] what was within him

[11:48] we do not know but when he created that

[11:50] net whether a creation is the question.

[11:53] How the Saguna Brahman creates this

[11:55] universe?

[11:56] To

[11:57] to give this very rational understanding

[12:00] and to understand that everything is God

[12:02] this example is many it is subject to

[12:04] meditation.

[12:06] You think that there is a spider

[12:09] and it plans that I shall create.

[12:11] You see you have seen one tree to

[12:14] another tree, they create huge wave.

[12:17] Huh?

[12:19] Where from it came?

[12:21] The wave itself came out of

[12:24] that spider.

[12:27] And he he can withdraw also.

[12:30] During [clears throat] creation period

[12:31] is when it is instant.

[12:34] That is the limitation. He can withdraw.

[12:37] But that is the way they they but that

[12:38] is looking at the spider, you can say it

[12:41] is the net is as beautiful. The net, how

[12:44] beautifully they design.

[12:46] Where do they get the skill?

[12:50] And how which point to be touched, which

[12:52] point to be doubled,

[12:54] uh really my fantastic artistic thing.

[12:58] So, if the spider can do, why not God

[13:01] can do things?

[13:02] And he does not need anyone's assistant.

[13:05] No firewood is necessary, no nail is

[13:08] necessary, no glue is necessary apart

[13:10] from the carpenter.

[13:12] The carpenter here, the wave

[13:14] that that is created by the spider

[13:18] is coming from within.

[13:20] And it is expressed

[13:23] in the minute.

[13:24] And it can be withdrawn. That's why we

[13:27] our day-to-day experience, this our our

[13:31] created universe

[13:32] expands and withdraws. Where does it go?

[13:36] Now, the whole world is we receive it

[13:39] our eyes and knees, ears, and

[13:41] everything, no?

[13:44] But what what happens when you go to

[13:45] sleep?

[13:47] This entire concept of our world is

[13:49] withdrawn

[13:51] into subtle body, subtle body to causal

[13:53] body.

[13:55] In the ego body, you know?

[13:58] When the it goes to the ego body,

[14:00] the whole world collapses.

[14:03] But the world concept does not go. It

[14:05] remains embedded into the eye

[14:07] consciousness.

[14:08] And then again, when you woke up, again

[14:10] that expands like that. It happens so

[14:13] spontaneously, we don't think about

[14:16] that.

[14:17] That's why it's called spontaneous. God

[14:19] creates the universe spontaneously.

[14:21] No effort, without any effort.

[14:24] So

[14:26] just to just to now who

[14:34] means the product of the nature,

[14:35] product.

[14:36] Out of product

[14:39] product means 24 principles.

[14:42] He creates this.

[14:44] And [clears throat]

[14:45] it means spontaneously.

[14:47] Without effort as the

[14:50] wave is created by the spider

[14:53] spontaneously.

[14:55] And from his within, similarly

[14:59] they were they were aha.

[15:02] Some are we know the

[15:05] sun know the heart too. Brahma

[15:09] O P I am.

[15:11] So

[15:12] the thread from himself are we know the

[15:16] and he covers himself.

[15:18] That Lord God

[15:20] know means us mark him to us.

[15:24] That gives that absorption. Let us be

[15:26] absorbed in that consciousness.

[15:29] Which creates this universe. We draw

[15:31] into it.

[15:33] And it is spontaneously does that. That

[15:36] really that Lord God we meditate or we

[15:39] our deep

[15:41] contemplation or absorption. Let it

[15:44] happen. Is it prayer?

[15:48] So may the supreme being

[15:51] who spontaneously covers himself with

[15:53] the products of nature.

[15:56] Who

[15:57] covers himself with the products of

[15:59] nature.

[16:02] He I see not God.

[16:06] But the product. Our attention goes to

[16:09] the product.

[16:10] Which he manufactures out of his own

[16:13] creation.

[16:14] The sun, moon, stars

[16:16] the earth, planets

[16:18] and all the trees, plants, birds,

[16:21] animals, everything is created out of

[16:24] his own the same elemental thing

[16:26] everywhere.

[16:28] And this beautiful creation has been

[16:30] done effortlessly.

[16:32] Not with much

[16:34] energy to spend. Just as a spider does

[16:37] with the thread drawn from his own

[16:39] navel.

[16:40] Oh lord, grant grant us absorption

[16:43] in that reality, Brahman.

[16:47] So, you are you are you are

[16:49] praying to Brahman.

[16:50] How is that?

[16:54] Brahman has no ear, no eyes.

[16:57] And you are praying to Brahman.

[16:59] Yeah, so

[17:01] considering there is that reality behind

[17:04] and we that's why human language is like

[17:06] that. It says, "Oh lord, give me this

[17:09] absorption or may I be absorbed." That's

[17:12] why "Om Brahmasmi."

[17:14] That I should be absorbed in that that

[17:18] reality which covers everything.

[17:23] Hello, anything question?

[17:29] Huh?

[17:32] Can you contradict this idea?

[17:35] Don't do now idea. Not if you think

[17:37] really it is a

[17:40] grand thought.

[17:42] We look at the world as matter.

[17:45] Prakriti and the

[17:47] pradhana

[17:49] pradhana pradhana means pradhan. Pradhan

[17:51] means Yeah, the material cause. The 24

[17:55] principles, no? Elemental thing, five

[17:57] elemental thing.

[17:59] Uh five subtle element.

[18:02] Uh

[18:03] thinking all and the

[18:06] pancha bhuta pancha tanmatra, then uh

[18:12] 17 you can say.

[18:15] Pancha gyanendriya karma and they all

[18:16] comes in that level.

[18:20] This pradhana jo

[18:23] But I see that only. I don't see

[18:26] that it is this consciousness behind.

[18:29] It is It is the elemental thing is

[18:31] Brahman.

[18:33] You are You are defining it as the name

[18:35] you are giving the name of

[18:37] material things, material

[18:39] expression of it.

[18:41] But it is that

[18:43] consciousness itself. So, I see

[18:45] consciousness everywhere.

[18:47] But I recognize either only the

[18:50] elemental thing,

[18:51] material thing. That is jada drishti,

[18:55] chetana drishti.

[18:58] I have to

[18:59] try to

[19:01] just work on this principle.

[19:04] It is drishti, how to see.

[19:08] It is consciousness. And intellect also

[19:11] should help us.

[19:13] So, if you think the example of the

[19:16] spider and the web.

[19:19] And look at the world like that.

[19:22] It's beauty, it's charm,

[19:24] it's fear,

[19:26] it's terror,

[19:28] it's sweetness.

[19:30] It is nothing but the same spider. It

[19:32] has come out. And he enjoys this spider.

[19:35] What he does? He creates this entire net

[19:38] and sits on it.

[19:42] Duality.

[19:43] Creation.

[19:45] And creation

[19:48] After creating, he does not disturb get

[19:50] dis- dissolved.

[19:52] He remains there.

[19:54] That's saguna Brahman. That's the idea.

[19:57] When you call nirguna, they don't talk

[19:58] about creation.

[20:00] Don't talk about the web.

[20:03] Don't talk about design, beauty.

[20:06] But when you are talking about this

[20:08] beauty design and in and that design, it

[20:11] is everything is the same elemental

[20:14] thing.

[20:16] It is sac-cid-ananda.

[20:19] But sac-cid-ananda inactive.

[20:21] When he becomes active, in that go is

[20:24] called Saguna Brahman.

[20:28] So this this concept should be clear.

[20:32] I am seeing Brahman means how can you

[20:35] see Brahman? You cannot say then you are

[20:37] creating duality.

[20:38] I am seeing Brahman. So Brahman is

[20:42] there, I am there, seeing action is

[20:44] there.

[20:47] But there is no trial or

[20:51] no division. It is only one.

[20:53] Then how can you can justify this world

[20:55] of diversity?

[20:57] The second Saguna Brahman comes. One

[20:59] step down.

[21:01] And there he becomes the ruler, he

[21:04] becomes the creator, he became we did

[21:06] the other verses just now.

[21:08] He's the creator, he's the sustainer,

[21:10] he's the destroyer.

[21:12] Uh there there is no lord over him. He's

[21:15] the lord of lords, he's the god of gods.

[21:18] All this we have just read. With that

[21:20] context now match.

[21:22] That this what you see, it is Saguna

[21:25] Brahman.

[21:26] And Saguna Brahman is a reality.

[21:30] He sits somewhere.

[21:32] A governor.

[21:35] A governor can stay anywhere in this

[21:37] whole net.

[21:40] But he sits a particular point and

[21:42] observes.

[21:44] It is the heart chakra he called.

[21:47] Vedanta that's why inspires us to

[21:49] meditate on the heart.

[21:52] Because he may stay everywhere, but he

[21:54] is more palpably felt and experienced

[21:57] in the heart chakra.

[22:01] So any any question? Come come out.

[22:06] Because otherwise I will one-way

[22:07] talking.

[22:10] Two-way talk is good.

[22:11] >> Saguna Brahman also creates this

[22:13] body-mind complex, right?

[22:16] >> Yeah.

[22:17] >> It's also part of that creation.

[22:19] >> And he himself.

[22:20] >> And we think we are separate

[22:21] >> Vedanta says he himself.

[22:24] The the the the the

[22:27] is himself. The the spider himself is

[22:29] the thread. Thread and spider are not

[22:32] two different.

[22:35] You cannot just justify the every aspect

[22:38] in an example. Example is called ekodesh

[22:41] ekodesi.

[22:43] All examples are to emphasize one side

[22:46] of the story. You have to match. That

[22:48] examples are

[22:49] given to understand that.

[22:51] Otherwise it will be like Brahman.

[22:54] There is no such

[22:55] perfect thing that which will match with

[22:58] the Brahman idea.

[23:03] That means drishti as they are saying to

[23:05] we have to create that drishti.

[23:08] That what I'm seeing as matter

[23:11] it is not

[23:13] it is consciousness.

[23:15] It is jada granthi.

[23:19] It is called the

[23:21] knot.

[23:23] The cloth

[23:24] can be put in knot. One is with this and

[23:28] tie it.

[23:30] So chit is one thing and jada is another

[23:33] thing.

[23:34] Chit is consciousness

[23:36] and jada is matter.

[23:39] But chit and jada they have been

[23:41] intertwined.

[23:43] And we are seeing chit as jada jada as

[23:46] chit.

[23:49] One no no that's adhyaropa.

[23:51] It is technically called adhyaropa.

[23:54] You are imposing the quality of one into

[23:56] the another.

[23:57] And another's quality upon the other.

[24:00] Which is jada

[24:02] you are saying chit.

[24:04] And we see the matter everything is

[24:07] jada.

[24:08] But how the jada moves?

[24:11] How the jada changes?

[24:13] Even to have a change you need something

[24:17] which is conscious.

[24:20] So that is the idea is given here.

[24:23] That

[24:25] look at the world

[24:26] it is that divine.

[24:29] It is Saguna Brahman's creation

[24:32] by the power potential power within that

[24:35] Brahman itself.

[24:37] And he has the power to project and he

[24:39] has the power to withdraw.

[24:41] This projection, evolution, and

[24:44] involution. That's why

[24:46] Hindu thought of this creation theory is

[24:49] not one time

[24:51] Christianity and others' idea is one

[24:53] time creation.

[24:55] God has created one day and it will all

[24:57] destroyed in one day. Last day, what

[25:00] will happen?

[25:01] He'll line up everyone.

[25:03] Who is good guys? Oh, you go

[25:07] heaven.

[25:08] And you go down.

[25:11] Uh that's the one time problem and

[25:14] that's not good.

[25:16] Reasonably it is not fair.

[25:19] I did something bad. I understand I did.

[25:22] And you'll send me for eternal

[25:24] damnation?

[25:26] I'll be eternally in hell? How can it

[25:29] be? I will give you 5 years punishment,

[25:31] 10 years punishment in the hell.

[25:33] And then I'll be released. No, you did

[25:36] something good. You go to heaven

[25:38] forever. How come that is illogical

[25:41] statement?

[25:43] Therefore

[25:45] logical statement is that Hindu idea.

[25:48] That you did something good

[25:51] you go to first heaven.

[25:55] Bhur Bhuva Swaha

[25:57] Maha Jana Tapa Satya like that you go

[26:00] high high. You did much better go to the

[26:03] another higher heaven with many

[26:07] amenities possibilities and enjoyment.

[26:11] Go another

[26:12] five star hotel.

[26:17] So, but you do bad thing then similarly

[26:20] you go to hell.

[26:22] First hell, second hell, third hell.

[26:26] Tala Atala Sutala Patala Rasatala

[26:29] Talatala

[26:31] All this downgrade journey. So, you do

[26:35] that is more reasonable. And after

[26:37] punishment,

[26:38] you get punished and release and start

[26:40] again in human body and to start again

[26:42] spiritual practice. To go up again.

[26:45] And go to heaven. Then you feel, "Hey,

[26:47] what is the use? If I go to heaven, I

[26:50] have to come back again."

[26:51] Yeah, go to hell, I have to come back

[26:53] again.

[26:54] So, what is the use of going to hell and

[26:56] heaven?

[26:57] Rather, I don't want to go to hell. I

[27:00] don't want to go to heaven, but I don't

[27:02] want to know who am I.

[27:05] This is the Hindu idea. It is very

[27:07] reasonable and rational that you need

[27:10] not have to have eternal

[27:13] loss or eternal gain,

[27:15] but it is we learn out of the experience

[27:18] of life.

[27:19] Doing bad thing, punishment. Doing good

[27:23] thing is also punishment.

[27:26] Swami Vivekananda said,

[27:28] "Iron chain

[27:30] binds us, is it not?

[27:33] But if you gold chain, will it not bind

[27:35] us?"

[27:36] Gold is more difficult to cut.

[27:40] You cannot cut the gold chain. You can

[27:44] even cut the iron chain.

[27:46] Possible, but gold chain is stronger,

[27:48] powerful.

[27:51] So, see, look at that. Someone hates you

[27:55] or criticizes you,

[27:57] you get way that go. Renunciation. Oh,

[28:01] I did good thing, but still they are

[28:03] saying bad thing. No.

[28:04] Anyhow, you have escaped.

[28:07] If one praises you too much

[28:09] and you overwhelmed,

[28:12] pampered by the praise, ha ha ha ha ha.

[28:15] And then you say, "Oh my god." Then you

[28:16] will

[28:17] balloon

[28:19] uh pops up

[28:21] and the balloon bursts.

[28:23] It's very easy to burst the balloon.

[28:25] Punch little bit.

[28:27] Huh?

[28:28] I am such a person and he dares to tell

[28:31] such things about me?

[28:33] No. So, more bondage.

[28:36] Gold chain is more bondage.

[28:39] Because gold value is there, apparently.

[28:41] But both are bonded. We're forgetting

[28:43] both binds us.

[28:45] So, we want freedom. No bondage.

[28:49] Only by seeing that oneness.

[28:54] >> [snorts and clears throat]

[28:57] >> 11th verse. Eko Deva Sarva Bhuteshu

[29:01] Guruh.

[29:03] Sarva

[29:08] Karmadhyaksha Sarva Bhutadhivasa.

[29:12] Sakshi Cheta Kevalo Nirgunashcha.

[29:16] This is a good verse for

[29:18] contemplation and meditation.

[29:21] Uh what it says?

[29:23] Eko Deva Ekaha One only one. That Deva

[29:27] God That God is only one.

[29:30] And God also means effulgent.

[29:33] The light

[29:35] the effulgence in everyone.

[29:37] Consciousness is everywhere. Eko Deva

[29:40] The Deva the effulgent entity or that

[29:44] Lord God is only one.

[29:47] But Sarva Bhuteshu Guruh.

[29:49] Guruh means

[29:51] it is hidden.

[29:52] It is hidden

[29:54] in every being.

[29:56] Swami Vivekananda said same English

[29:59] translation Each soul

[30:02] is potentially divine.

[30:04] Mind it.

[30:06] An ant

[30:07] there is a soul.

[30:10] A bacteria there is a soul.

[30:12] Isn't it?

[30:14] Cancer cell has a soul.

[30:18] HDL has a soul. LDL will have soul.

[30:23] So, from that to the big giant there is

[30:26] a soul in everyone. No?

[30:29] But who is in that

[30:31] part of that? It is Ekaha Deva.

[30:36] That means it is permeated by the one

[30:38] consciousness.

[30:40] Apparently, whatever you see

[30:42] in name and form,

[30:44] behind that, everywhere, there is one

[30:47] reality.

[30:48] And that is the Satchidananda reality.

[30:50] Eko Deva.

[30:52] A mantra can be chanted, you know. Ekaha

[30:55] Deva. Think that that Deva, that divine

[30:59] entity, that God Lord, you say, we call

[31:02] Rama Krishna, we call Krishna,

[31:05] we call Rama, we call Mama.

[31:09] Ekaha Deva. And where it is? Sarva

[31:13] bhutesu guda.

[31:15] Sarva bhutesu, everything which is bhuta

[31:18] bhuta bhuta means creation,

[31:21] which has been created in this universe,

[31:24] what we see as many manifestation.

[31:27] Sarva bhutesu guda. Guda means embedded.

[31:32] And sarva vyapi. At the same time,

[31:36] he is sarva vyapi.

[31:38] He he

[31:40] vyapta means expanded, extended in

[31:43] everything.

[31:44] Sarva vyapi.

[31:46] Sarva bhutantaratma.

[31:49] Is a sarva bhuta

[31:51] all types of bhuta,

[31:53] all types of created being, antaratma,

[31:55] innermost atma.

[31:59] Karmadhyaksha. Karmadhyaksha means

[32:01] presides over all actions.

[32:03] It is that consciousness which presides

[32:06] over our movement of the hand,

[32:09] feet, eyes, senses, and every action in

[32:13] the world is the observer of that.

[32:16] Sarva karmadhyaksha. Sarva bhuta

[32:19] adhivasa.

[32:21] Sarva bhuta means all the created being,

[32:23] adhivasa, is the home.

[32:27] He is the home on which every created

[32:30] universe rests on that.

[32:33] Sakshi cheta.

[32:36] He is the sakshi,

[32:37] witness.

[32:39] So, this cheta, he the pure

[32:41] consciousness.

[32:42] And he's kevala and the only single

[32:45] alone. Kevala means only only one.

[32:48] And nirguna

[32:50] he's free from all the gunas. No guna no

[32:53] gunas.

[32:54] Nirgunas cha.

[32:56] So, now meditate on this. Eka devah.

[33:01] Eka deva eka that deva that he finds in

[33:04] me is only one.

[33:07] But he resides sarva bhutesu gudah.

[33:10] He is gudah embedded

[33:13] in the deepest core of all created

[33:16] being.

[33:17] It did that takes many your whole

[33:20] meditation can take away in that one

[33:22] word.

[33:23] Sarva bhutesu. Now think of the bhutas.

[33:26] All the created being.

[33:29] Uh

[33:30] atom subatom go that.

[33:34] In that what is there behind? What is

[33:36] that behind?

[33:38] Sarva gudah

[33:39] embedded.

[33:42] Sarva bhutantaratma.

[33:44] The atma is the self of all

[33:47] created objects.

[33:49] Sarva bhutatmanam.

[33:51] Karmadhyaksho.

[33:53] He is your daksha. Adhyaksha means

[33:55] principal.

[33:56] Or

[33:57] the person who dictates the

[34:01] somebody to do something.

[34:03] Karmadhyaksho of the all the karmas

[34:06] adhyaksho means presides.

[34:08] Sarva bhutadhivaso.

[34:10] Home of all being. And he is the sakshi

[34:13] is the witness.

[34:14] In everyone all the things which are

[34:17] happening is the witness consciousness.

[34:20] Sarvadhyaksho sarva bhutodhivaso.

[34:23] Uh he is your dhivaso.

[34:25] He is the

[34:28] uh home of all beings. Actually

[34:31] ultimately we say that's I say our home

[34:33] is in God.

[34:35] And he is the home of all our existence.

[34:38] We die in him. We live in him. We work

[34:42] in him, we cry in him, we enjoy in him.

[34:46] It is the He's the ground of all.

[34:50] And came a law nirguna and he's also

[34:53] nirguna beyond all gunas, beyond all

[34:58] uh

[34:59] well, that's the limitation.

[35:03] God who is only one

[35:06] is hidden in all beings.

[35:08] He's all pervading.

[35:11] And is the inner self of all creatures.

[35:14] He presides over all actions.

[35:17] And all beings reside in him.

[35:20] He's the witness.

[35:22] And he's the pure consciousness free

[35:24] from three gunas of nature.

[35:27] Three gunas of nature means

[35:30] of nature are sattva,

[35:33] rajas, and tamas.

[35:35] He's beyond the three gunas and he's

[35:37] into the three gunas.

[35:40] He's beyond the three gunas,

[35:42] nirguna gunamay. We talk about

[35:44] Ramakrishna.

[35:46] He's nirguna, but then beyond gunas

[35:50] at the same time he's

[35:52] expressing himself through the gunas.

[35:55] Sattvic quality, rajasic quality, tamas.

[35:58] The whole universe

[36:00] is the manifestation of that.

[36:03] Okay?

[36:07] Hello.

[36:12] >> As

[36:13] he used the spider

[36:15] example as the

[36:17] as Brahman creates the essential

[36:20] throughout all is

[36:22] the matter

[36:24] created the maya through our creative

[36:27] desire or

[36:29] the differentiation?

[36:31] Is it

[36:32] >> It is his his own self.

[36:35] >> Okay.

[36:35] Even the differentiation

[36:37] >> Yeah, see look at the wave wave example,

[36:41] the spider example, it is the spider.

[36:45] There is nothing no other agency other

[36:47] than spider in the entire

[36:49] wave

[36:50] is designed, planning,

[36:53] or withdrawal, or expansion, is all the

[36:57] one thing. Similarly example, God

[37:01] there is only elemental

[37:03] the thing, which is consciousness.

[37:06] Satchidananda self manifest

[37:09] in this beautiful

[37:10] wave of of sankalpa.

[37:13] But it is only God. That's the here

[37:16] emphasis.

[37:17] As a student of Vedanta, we will have to

[37:19] think that what I see,

[37:22] I may not recognize that.

[37:24] But it is it is the consciousness only.

[37:28] That that

[37:29] supreme reality

[37:31] is misread by my mind.

[37:35] It is only reality is the Lord God is

[37:38] the reality.

[37:42] So, this is this awareness.

[37:46] It's called Sarva Bhute Brahma

[37:48] Darshanam.

[37:50] And it's a practice

[37:51] to see

[37:53] the divine in everyone. Each soul is

[37:55] potentially divine.

[37:57] And Swamiji says, the goal is to

[37:58] manifest this divinity.

[38:00] This divinity is to be manifested.

[38:04] How? There is any any process?

[38:07] By Karma, Jnana, Yoga, Bhakti.

[38:09] In spiritual level.

[38:11] By good action.

[38:15] By prayer.

[38:18] By analyzing

[38:19] permanent, impermanent.

[38:24] >> The question was

[38:27] the same way we've been given

[38:30] a template,

[38:31] a way of understanding this.

[38:34] In the dream

[38:35] in the dream everything seems real and

[38:38] obeys the laws of physics or that kind

[38:40] of

[38:40] >> It comes from mind and you withdraws in

[38:42] mind.

[38:43] >> Yeah.

[38:44] >> Here also you You see the

[38:46] analogy there.

[38:47] >> And you can't experience anything

[38:48] outside of your mind.

[38:49] >> No.

[38:50] >> Even this waking world.

[38:51] >> Yeah, but mind alone is not sufficient.

[38:54] Example is that mind alone is not

[38:56] sufficient. Mind needs some conscious

[38:59] entity behind. Otherwise mind cannot

[39:01] function.

[39:03] Mind is supported behind the mind is the

[39:05] buddhi, intellect.

[39:07] And behind the intellect is the ego.

[39:10] Behind the ego is the ever shining

[39:12] light.

[39:13] That is falling on the ego. Ego becomes

[39:16] animated.

[39:17] Buddhi, intelligence becomes animated.

[39:20] Mind becomes animated. Then mind

[39:23] projects himself in so many ways like

[39:26] the spider projecting

[39:29] itself in the beautiful way. And here

[39:32] good but more tangible

[39:34] experience of the play of the mind. And

[39:37] we call this a cosmic mind.

[39:40] As our individual dream

[39:43] is our creation of our own mind.

[39:47] Huh?

[39:49] The similarly the cosmic mind

[39:52] that is God's mind.

[39:55] And he dreams.

[39:59] As in your dream, when you dream

[40:02] what happens?

[40:03] >> You give yourself a role in the dream.

[40:04] >> When I dream

[40:06] what my mind has planned

[40:09] all the people are working, talking

[40:13] as my mind producer is my mind.

[40:18] As in a movie

[40:20] the actors all the actors act

[40:24] and behave

[40:25] as per producer's will, is it not?

[40:28] Or play right, he has asked the play

[40:30] right to write in this way. That will be

[40:32] the

[40:34] way everyone will express anger,

[40:36] frustration, joy.

[40:38] All these emotions.

[40:41] But producer is the one.

[40:43] So here my mind is the producer.

[40:48] And everything orchestrated

[40:50] the mind's power.

[40:52] Everything is happening. We see

[40:54] different.

[40:56] I in the dream, I was scared.

[40:59] But it is your mind who have created the

[41:01] entire plot.

[41:03] Entire actions and reactions.

[41:07] That's why my mind has created the sun

[41:10] in the mind with the mind. Every person

[41:13] in this in the dream time, they see the

[41:16] same sun.

[41:18] >> Shared reality.

[41:19] >> Mind has said

[41:21] >> Yeah, it's never shared reality.

[41:23] Everybody in the dream

[41:24] >> Shared means you are

[41:25] you

[41:26] >> Just like here.

[41:28] >> I mean you are bound to see whatever

[41:31] I mean the my mind has created. The road

[41:33] has been created. It may be rough road

[41:36] and potholed road full filled with that.

[41:39] Yes, bad road. You can see. Everyone

[41:41] will go through that bad road. If it is

[41:43] a

[41:44] nice garden

[41:46] everyone garden flower etc. All will see

[41:49] the same way. All the people that 100

[41:51] people if you create in your mind, all

[41:54] will see the same thing. Now this vast

[41:56] universe of stars and galaxies and to

[41:59] the down to the our

[42:01] planet Earth.

[42:04] The cosmic mind is the producer.

[42:10] That's why you see the sun, I also see

[42:11] the sun.

[42:13] That's why we say this world is real.

[42:16] Why real?

[42:18] Because we are seeing the same thing.

[42:19] Everyone seeing the same

[42:21] Huh?

[42:22] >> Because we agree on reality.

[42:23] >> And not agree, but we see it. I cannot

[42:27] deny.

[42:28] It is hard.

[42:31] Fire is

[42:32] burning.

[42:34] It is an experience of all of us.

[42:36] Cosmic mind, God's mind

[42:39] He created this delusion.

[42:41] Or he is the producer of this world

[42:43] phenomena.

[42:46] That's why it is the Vedanta teaches

[42:48] that it is also a

[42:50] dream.

[42:52] This is also a dream.

[42:55] They say

[42:58] Par adus swapniyam subha, there is a

[43:01] mantra in the

[43:03] um Vedic

[43:06] mantra

[43:07] Oh Lord, please remove my bad dream of

[43:10] this world and worldliness.

[43:14] You want to dream, go on dreaming, but

[43:16] release me.

[43:20] And we are bound to see whatever in the

[43:22] cosmic plan, all feel the same way.

[43:25] Storm, everyone feels storm.

[43:28] Tsunami, everyone feels tsunami.

[43:32] Fire, everyone feels fire.

[43:35] So this is because of the cosmic mind

[43:37] plan. That's why it is said, Ishwari

[43:39] cha.

[43:41] Lord's will.

[43:43] Ramakrishna said, "Without his will,

[43:45] nothing happens."

[43:47] Meaning

[43:48] it is his play going on. He He has

[43:51] designed every word the the actors

[43:54] express.

[43:56] It is under the supervision of the

[43:58] producer

[43:59] given

[44:01] to the play right.

[44:03] And they have used this vocabulary.

[44:05] And he is only repeating that. And he's

[44:08] acting in that emotion, and that becomes

[44:10] in

[44:12] play.

[44:13] So this is the play of the Lord going

[44:15] on. That's the in from that perspective

[44:18] we can think it is called the Lord's

[44:20] play.

[44:29] >> And as that play is going on, we're

[44:31] presented with

[44:33] opportunities to either become closer to

[44:36] God or

[44:37] further away.

[44:38] >> Uh when you understand it is God's play

[44:40] going on

[44:42] by chance

[44:43] then what will happen? I'll be free.

[44:47] God's play going on.

[44:49] Who Who am I here? Ramakrishna said, as

[44:52] someone said, "It is Lord's play."

[44:55] But they want they would say, "Hey, it

[44:57] is the mother's play, but we are

[44:59] suffering."

[45:01] Then Ramakrishna said, "Who are you?

[45:04] You have no existence.

[45:06] It's God's God playing with God.

[45:11] Your own mind split into 20 people in

[45:13] the dream.

[45:15] And one is fighting, one is loving, one

[45:17] is hating, one is eating, one is

[45:19] dancing, one is sleeping.

[45:21] All this diversity going on. Mind split

[45:24] into so many divisions.

[45:26] But it is the mind. Mind of the

[45:28] individual.

[45:30] >> [snorts]

[45:31] >> But we don't understand during dream,

[45:33] neither do understand during waking

[45:35] state.

[45:37] If we see it is God's plan, I'm talking

[45:39] about God's plan.

[45:43] It is how God's plan. I was where in

[45:46] Tushar.

[45:48] And I

[45:51] went here and there and then

[45:53] catch the plane and this way that way

[45:55] and I'm here. I'm here sitting here.

[45:57] Yesterday I was talking to other people,

[45:59] so many other people.

[46:01] So,

[46:02] whose planning going on?

[46:04] When to start? I think I plan to go. I

[46:07] plan is the same as his plan.

[46:12] And then one really becomes can

[46:14] surrender.

[46:16] Say nothing I can do.

[46:18] People that's why in our life also we

[46:21] want to do this, we want to do that.

[46:24] But when we fail,

[46:26] then what do we say? It is God's will. I

[46:28] tried.

[46:31] That means

[46:32] even the bhakti can be brought here.

[46:34] Bhakti idea can be brought that

[46:36] everything is a planning of mind, cosmic

[46:39] mind, means God's mind. So, God's will.

[46:43] And everything good and bad happening by

[46:45] his will.

[46:46] And if he is everywhere in everybody,

[46:50] then I why I say I I I? Why do you say

[46:53] your I has no value?

[46:54] You have no existence.

[46:57] As a devotee, Vedanta student will be

[46:59] say,

[47:00] "I have no meaningless I.

[47:03] It is God's I."

[47:20] Bolo.

[47:22] Bolo means what? Bengali. Bolo means

[47:26] What is bolo means?

[47:29] >> Speak.

[47:30] >> Speak or say.

[47:31] >> Say.

[47:32] >> Say. Say something.

[47:40] Bolo.

[47:42] >> What?

[47:46] So, if we're

[47:47] I'm sorry, but if we're all

[47:49] Look.

[47:51] How we feel one is through love. Yes?

[47:55] But

[47:56] to to love

[47:57] everyone as

[47:59] we're all God.

[48:01] Is that

[48:02] >> It will be It will be a pleasurable

[48:04] thing.

[48:06] Because in the

[48:07] you'll then be enjoying

[48:10] that who is showing you

[48:12] anger,

[48:14] internally it is God is smiling with the

[48:17] God in you.

[48:19] So, it's fun.

[48:21] Someone is praising you.

[48:25] It's a God playing with God.

[48:28] To bring that awareness, it is God's

[48:30] play going on everything.

[48:33] Both in happiness and misery,

[48:36] pleasure and pain, joy and sorrows.

[48:39] It's all God's play going on. The

[48:41] devotee will day and night think like

[48:43] that.

[48:45] And bring this Vedantic idea. Actually,

[48:47] it is the master plan.

[48:50] And mastermind

[48:52] planned and designed like that.

[48:58] Brahma is the creator. He will not mono

[49:00] sristi.

[49:02] Brahma

[49:04] is the creator.

[49:05] Is from his mind born. And who is called

[49:09] Brahma is called mind born.

[49:12] of Ishwara

[49:17] Ishwara created Brahma, Vishnu,

[49:19] Maheshwara.

[49:20] It is called mind born.

[49:24] The language is mind born.

[49:26] And that means it is mind of the cosmic

[49:29] Ishwara.

[49:31] Saguna Brahma

[49:34] He creates this.

[49:39] There is no question today online?

[49:43] No.

[49:46] No doubt.

[49:52] >> I think it's just that I

[49:54] I accept it all. I accept

[49:56] everything.

[49:57] I I accept that this world is one and

[49:59] it's love and it's consciousness.

[50:01] >> Yeah.

[50:01] >> It's the day-to-day so many

[50:04] different personalities that someone has

[50:06] to say.

[50:06] >> No, true. True. We we ultimately all are

[50:10] different stance

[50:12] to understand the same truth.

[50:15] Different

[50:16] angle you look at the

[50:18] uh from different angle look at the same

[50:20] truth.

[50:23] And really as you move in spiritual life

[50:26] you'll find that there is no conflict.

[50:29] Conflict is for those people who does

[50:31] not do anything.

[50:33] They only want to intellectualize and

[50:36] spend their day gone that way.

[50:39] But really if it is a sadhaka, he's

[50:42] practitioner

[50:44] his doubts will be going every day.

[50:47] Uh

[50:49] samshayo gato

[50:51] He Thakurs pronoun. nirvayo gato

[50:54] samshayo

[50:56] That way nirvayo gato samshayo

[50:59] drdha nischaya manas Every day in the

[51:02] Ramakrishna's prayer we say

[51:05] means doubt.

[51:09] The doubts are going away.

[51:12] And you become fearless.

[51:15] Because you know only God. So whom to

[51:17] fear? Who is coming in front of us with

[51:19] the yelling and howling and with the rod

[51:23] in hand. He's the Lord himself coming.

[51:27] So thinking that reality this way when

[51:30] mind becomes pure

[51:32] that then it is it is a joyful world.

[51:35] Huh?

[51:39] There one

[51:40] uh

[51:41] holy man came to Dakshineswar.

[51:44] And he was Brahmagyani.

[51:47] So when he was going he had matted lock

[51:51] dirty body

[51:53] have not cleaned it anywhere.

[51:55] And that's looking at that everyone

[51:58] thought he's a

[51:59] mad guy.

[52:00] And the children are playing they're

[52:03] stoning thrown and doing that and then

[52:06] he's he's bleeding.

[52:09] But he's laughing bursting into

[52:11] laughter.

[52:12] He has no body consciousness

[52:14] the stone is

[52:16] cut his head or chin

[52:19] and it's bleeding.

[52:21] But he's thinking it is God's play going

[52:23] on.

[52:24] Ramakrishna said there is a sadhu in

[52:27] Dakshineswar.

[52:30] He used to come out of the morning and

[52:32] evening occasionally.

[52:34] And look at the

[52:36] the sky, the trees, the Ganga and and

[52:40] clap his hand and say,

[52:42] "Oh Lord, what a beautiful world you

[52:44] have created." Then he'd say, "You are

[52:47] everywhere."

[52:48] And that was he's seeing the one God

[52:51] everywhere.

[52:53] So that is a sadhana.

[52:56] And this verse ekam devaha that one God

[53:00] the defiant self

[53:03] Buddha

[53:05] with the eyes open, no?

[53:08] While you are working, while you are

[53:09] talking, look everyone.

[53:12] Oh, these are the people. No, Buddha in

[53:16] them

[53:17] is the same ekaha, that one reality.

[53:21] Just think that way.

[53:24] It is called a thinking.

[53:26] And that's called sravana,

[53:28] and think deeper thinking manana.

[53:31] And deeper manana is called

[53:33] nididhyasana.

[53:35] Experience will come.

[53:39] Sarvavyapi.

[53:42] He is permeated everywhere, sarvavyapi.

[53:45] Sarvabhutantaratma.

[53:48] He is the antaratma, indweller

[53:51] of all created being.

[53:54] Karmadhyaksha is the master of all

[53:57] activity.

[53:59] Sarvabhutodhivasa.

[54:02] He is the substratum of all the created

[54:05] being.

[54:06] Sakshi is the witness of all.

[54:09] Chetah.

[54:11] He is the

[54:12] He is the

[54:13] conscious entity which makes animates

[54:16] everything.

[54:18] He is sitting behind and animating

[54:20] everything.

[54:22] Chetah. Kevalah, only absolutely one.

[54:26] And nirgunah, beyond all gunas.

[54:30] What is the question? What is the part

[54:32] of the jiva intelligence that crosses

[54:35] the crosses the divide

[54:39] to the largest consciousness?

[54:41] Or is crossing that bridge and unveiling

[54:44] of the consciousness? What is the part

[54:46] of the jiva intelligence? Jiva

[54:48] intelligence means our intelligence.

[54:51] Our intelligence is a part of the cosmic

[54:53] intelligence.

[54:55] Therefore,

[54:57] but this intelligence can cross

[55:01] the largest consciousness to the largest

[55:03] consciousness. Yes, my consciousness I

[55:06] am the body.

[55:09] I am the enjoyer. of

[55:11] pleasure and pain,

[55:13] suffering and joy.

[55:15] That barrier

[55:17] can be crossed

[55:18] by seeing that consciousness is

[55:20] everywhere as is my consciousness.

[55:23] That the one consciousness.

[55:25] Not my consciousness separate, your

[55:27] consciousness separate.

[55:29] In our ignorant state, that is true now.

[55:32] I am aware of you.

[55:34] I am aware of the room.

[55:36] You are a separate entity.

[55:38] That is the starting point.

[55:41] But when this verse we are reading

[55:43] today,

[55:44] if that is applied in with eyes open,

[55:47] everywhere that that that one the

[55:49] reality, one consciousness, then now

[55:52] what will happen? It will break the

[55:54] barrier between individual consciousness

[55:57] and cosmic consciousness. There is no

[55:59] division.

[56:02] It is like the a jar is put in to the

[56:06] ocean.

[56:08] Inner water content

[56:11] and outer water content, there is in and

[56:13] and out.

[56:15] Because even the thin wall of the jar,

[56:20] if it is a

[56:21] Think of the

[56:23] um earthen jar.

[56:26] So that it penetrates the same It

[56:28] penetrates the water also there.

[56:32] But division is still there because of

[56:33] the wall.

[56:36] If one can think that this what is

[56:38] within Sarva Bhuta Antaratma

[56:42] is the indweller of mean my pot,

[56:45] your pot.

[56:47] If you see this, then you will come

[56:49] external, there is a gap.

[56:52] Body mind is the wall.

[56:55] Then you think, "Oh, it is permeated by

[56:57] that same consciousness."

[56:59] And then you see that in between two

[57:02] entities, there is also water.

[57:05] So water water water everywhere. So

[57:08] the individual consciousness will be

[57:11] destroyed

[57:13] by

[57:15] this process of meditation

[57:17] and it will give you to the one

[57:19] undivided unified consciousness

[57:22] that is called the Brahman.

[57:23] Aham Brahman Osmi. Osmi means this

[57:27] breakage of break breaking the barrier.

[57:31] So, the consciousness will automatically

[57:34] break

[57:36] the division of individual consciousness

[57:38] and the cosmic consciousness

[57:40] will break.

[57:41] If we can see first that all the

[57:45] manifested consciousness

[57:48] manifested form the same water content.

[57:52] And then you will say it is outside

[57:55] also.

[57:56] Inside outside. And then you what is in

[57:58] me that is in you.

[58:01] So, that

[58:02] breaking of the

[58:03] division of consciousness.

[58:06] Our consciousness we have by your buddhi

[58:09] we have

[58:10] divided it to two and multiple.

[58:14] That's why it's called buddhi shuddhi.

[58:16] When the intellect will be clean

[58:19] and the mind will be clean

[58:21] this vision will be spontaneous.

[58:32] How can we have the chance to perceive

[58:34] the sarvabhutesu guha?

[58:38] Uh is perceiving him what is meant by

[58:41] manifesting this divinity?

[58:44] Perceiving means feeling.

[58:47] How can we have the chance to perceive

[58:50] who is in the sarvabhutesu guha? Meaning

[58:52] who is inside the heart of all.

[58:55] How can we do that? See that reality.

[58:58] Feel that reality.

[59:02] Wherever there is a movement that's why

[59:04] it is said tadejati

[59:06] Isopanishad said

[59:08] that which is vibrating

[59:11] tad anejati that which does not vibrate.

[59:15] Which moves which does not move.

[59:19] Behind them is the one consciousness.

[59:22] So, this is the way

[59:24] gradual process

[59:27] of purifying our mind.

[59:29] And mind will be pure

[59:31] then sarva bhutesu in all the bhutas

[59:35] which is guha

[59:37] which is the deep

[59:38] embedded

[59:40] and

[59:41] that

[59:42] unseen by our mortal eye

[59:45] that veil will drop.

[59:49] Mhm?

[59:51] Okay.

[59:56] So, sadhana sadhana sadhana

[59:59] take this verse

[1:00:01] and hold it think

[1:00:03] whole what? One week, one verse, one

[1:00:05] week.

[1:00:08] Is a

[1:00:09] sarva bhutesu guha vas

[1:00:13] live on the thought.

[1:00:15] Is a

[1:00:17] this consciousness sarva bhutesu

[1:00:21] guha

[1:00:23] think that.

[1:00:25] Not seeing a person as a person

[1:00:29] but in everyone that consciousness which

[1:00:32] you call name it in whatever way.

[1:00:37] Whatever way you prefer name it it's

[1:00:40] called consciousness that's okay.

[1:00:47] Okay?

[1:00:51] >> [snorts]

[1:00:53] >> Om shanti shanti shantihi harihi om tat

[1:00:59] sat sri ramakrishna

[1:01:02] arpanamastu

[1:01:05] Tomorrow is Wednesday

[1:01:07] the

[1:01:07] the gospel class by Matri Prana.

[1:01:11] Good.

[1:01:14] Uh-huh.

[1:01:16] >> Yeah.

Verse 4.9 says Brahman projects the universe through its maya, and that within that universe Brahman as the jiva becomes entangled through the same maya. The verse presents one reality appearing both as the projector and as the one caught in the projection. The teacher reads this as the root of the individual's sense of separateness.
In the class, Swami Sarvadevananda says the spider makes its web from its own secretion, which is its own body, rather than from some outside material. He calls it the closest example of Advaita Vedanta because the maker and the material are the same. He also notes that the spider can withdraw its web, which he uses to illustrate creation, maintenance, and withdrawal.
Nimitta karana is the efficient cause, the agent who makes something, like a carpenter. Upadana karana is the material cause, the substance the thing is made from, like wood for a table. The teacher argues that in the case of Brahman creating the universe, these two causes are the same reality.
The causeless cause is Brahman understood as the ultimate source of all causality, which has no cause prior to itself. In the class, the teacher says there is no other cause behind it, and that questions about cause arise only when we look at the created universe through Saguna Brahman.
Verse 4.7 describes the jiva as deluded by forgetting its identity with the divine Self and bewildered by its ego, which leads to grief. The verse says grief ends when the individual recognizes the other as the Lord and his glory. The teacher emphasizes that the basic error is the sense that we are separate.
Buddhi shuddhi means purification of the intellect. In the class, the teacher links meditation on this teaching to buddhi shuddhi, saying that the purified mind sees the consciousness common to all things. It is the practical side of the theory the verses describe.
Start with a slow reading of verses 4.7 to 4.9 alongside a posted translation, then listen to a teacher's reading of the Sanskrit terms. Focus on a single image, such as the spider or the carpenter's table, and reflect on it before moving to the next verse. Repetition and contemplation are central to how the class approaches the text.
