Evolving Enneagram

Evolving Enneagram is a contemplative Enneagram formation school based in Kansas City, Missouri, devoted to awakening and embodying our true nature. It joins committed spiritual practice with the wisdom of the Enneagram. The school is less concerned with labeling personality than with awakening the deeper awareness that allows people to live with clarity, compassion and embodied presence.

The school approaches the Enneagram as a map of inner awakening, a guide to the patterns that shape perception, behavior and relationships. It also remembers that the map is not the territory. Through silence, self-observation and discernment, students learn to use the map wisely and not to reduce themselves to a type. Its mission is to nurture inner awakening through contemplative practice and radical hospitality.

Evolving Enneagram was founded by Rev. Nhien Vuong, JD, MDiv, who serves as its lead faculty. The vision grew while she was a minister at Unity Temple on the Plaza in Kansas City. There she developed an Enneagram educational department and founded U-Nite, an interspiritual evening service. She also created Contemplative Practices & the Enneagram (CPE) groups, which pair Enneagram-informed contemplative prayer with small-group gathering and continue today. She then stepped beyond church walls to offer this work full-time and internationally. Her Insight Timer page describes her as a former Stanford Law attorney and an ordained Unity minister. She is also the author of The Enneagram of the Soul: A 40-Day Spiritual Companion for the 9 Types, with a foreword by Russ Hudson.

The work includes retreats, practitioner training, small groups, monthly interspiritual conversations, and spiritual direction and one-to-one guidance. It also includes an Enneagram-informed spiritual direction training and certificate program, co-led with Rev. Scott McRae, and Contemplative Enneagram Practitioner certification. The community draws people from many spiritual and religious backgrounds in several countries. It is united by a shared devotion to inner awakening and not by one dogma. The school has offered scholarships from its earliest days, many personally funded by its founder.
