La Respuesta (Crussen Remix) by Curawaka: A Listening Guide

A note on scope: this is a single, one-track release, so this guide treats it as a focused listening session rather than a full album deep dive. The profile available for this release does not describe the remix's tempo, structure or production choices in detail, so what follows draws on what is documented about Curawaka and the remix program it belongs to, and says plainly where that ends.

Where This Sits in Curawaka's Arc

Curawaka is an international sacred world music band, formed by artists from Norway, Mexico and Argentina and founded by vocalist and songwriter Anna Bariyani. After nearly a decade on the road, with hundreds of live performances and two world tours, the band has built its reputation on a pairing of a powerful lead voice with Andean instruments and ceremonial rhythm. The usual path in begins with the debut Call of the Wild, then Dreamtime (2023), then OLOKUN (2025).

"La Respuesta (Crussen Remix)" arrives in 2026, a year in which Curawaka has leaned into reinterpretation. Producers including Namirí, Crussen, Nils Olav, J. Pool, Ida Engberg, Mose and ALUNA have reworked the material across singles and the Dreamtime Remixes album. This single belongs to that wave. It is less a new chapter in the band's songwriting than a look at how the songs behave when another producer's hands are on them.

Sonic Character

The original Curawaka sound is vocal-led. Anna Bariyani's projected, full-voiced singing sits at the front, with charango, quena and sikuri flutes, guitars, bass and a range of percussion beneath it. She sings in seven languages, including Hatcha Kuin, Yawanawa, Sami, Spanish, Portuguese, English and Norwegian, and the band's repertoire is built around melodic line and ceremonial pulse more than layered chords.

A remix changes the frame around that core. The band's remix program is described as pulling the material toward club-adjacent listening, and some remixes move closer to electronic territory. I can't tell you from the available facts how far Crussen goes in that direction, which elements of the original are kept, or how the pacing is reshaped. A useful way to listen is to notice for yourself what holds the center: does the voice still lead, do the Andean flutes remain audible as more than color, and does the percussion keep a ceremonial feel or turn toward a dance-floor grid?

What to Listen For

Because this is one track, the guide offers listening questions rather than track names. No other titles belong to this release.

  • The voice. In Curawaka's original work, the lead vocal carries unusual weight. Listen for whether the remix preserves that force or sets the voice into a more textural role.
  • The wind instruments. Quena and sikuri flutes are central to the band's identity. Their presence, or their transformation, tells you how the remix relates to its source.
  • The rhythm. Ceremonial percussion normally provides the pulse. Notice what replaces or reinforces it, and how that changes the sense of movement.
  • The language. The title is Spanish. Translations are not part of the profile, so let the sound of the words lead if you don't speak the language.

Place in the Tradition

Curawaka does not belong to a single spiritual lineage. Its own framing is a cross-cultural practice built on study, collaboration and respect for indigenous traditions, with many years of study among the Wixarika people the most clearly documented thread. Its repertoire and workshops engage with shamanism, ceremonies and shamanic drumming, which places it nearer to medicine music and sacred chant than to conventional concert folk.

A remix sits at an interesting edge of that tradition. The source material is ceremonial in orientation, and a producer's reworking carries it into a different listening setting. That is an unusual move for a sacred music project, and it is worth hearing with that tension in mind rather than expecting the remix to function as ceremonial music in the same way the original recordings might.

Who It Lands Hardest For

This single suits listeners who already know Curawaka's original sound and are curious how it translates into a more electronic setting. It also suits people who come to sacred world music through dance and electronic music and want an entry point with a vocal and cultural core.

It is a weaker fit for those who want purely ambient background sound, or for anyone who wants the unmediated ceremonial feel of the band's own recordings. Listeners who prefer English-only lyrics may also find the language barrier a factor. If you are new to the band entirely, the profile suggests starting with Call of the Wild and Dreamtime, then returning to remixes as a separate session.

How to Listen

Use headphones, and give the track its own sitting rather than folding it into a playlist. Listen once straight through without analysis, then a second time attending to the questions above: voice, flutes, rhythm. If you know the original "La Respuesta," play it first and then the remix, so the differences are audible rather than guessed at.

Treat it as active listening, not a ritual accompaniment. The profile does not tag any track for meditation or ceremony, and the band's recordings are best understood as companions to ceremonial work rather than replacements for it. If you plan to use the track in a practice, audition it beforehand, since Curawaka's vocal intensity runs projected rather than hushed.

For release updates and the fuller discography, the official site at curawaka.com and the Spotify artist page are the most reliable places to check.
