Jennie is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500), Reiki Master, Certified Mindfulness Instructor, Thai Massage Therapist and Acupressure Therapist. She came to yoga in the late 1990s, at a time when she had lost herself in her early twenties. She describes yoga as her path back home: a way to learn who she was, to root down in faith, trust and love for herself, and to return to her breath.
Her own history shapes her teaching. She is a survivor of stroke, sexual assault, violence and addiction, and she describes finding beauty in healing and in letting go. She believes yoga, meditation and a holistic lifestyle can send the body into healing from the inside out. In her words, yoga is "planting roots as firm as the trees" and knowing you can re-root and rise.
Jennie leads Rooted Holistic Center in Haddon Heights, New Jersey, an LGBTQ+ owned 501(c)(3) studio founded in 2020 and home to Rooted Through Recovery. She developed that trauma-informed, neuroscience-based, 12-step-inspired framework for survivors of trauma and addiction after three decades of trying to heal in spaces not built for people like her. It draws on nervous system science, embodiment, reflection and community. The center's offerings also include Yoga Nidra with sound, drum circles, donation-based group guitar lessons, workshops and teacher training. The center brings its programs to recovery centers, schools, nonprofits and other organizations across South Jersey.
Jennie is also a survivor advocate. She proposed New Jersey legislation, A5445, that would require police, prosecutors and the courts to be trained in how trauma affects survivors.
Worth Knowing
jennie claire is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500), Reiki Master, Certified Mindfulness Instructor, and Thai Massage and Acupressure Therapist based in Haddon Heights, New Jersey, where she leads Rooted Holistic Center. What distinguishes her teaching is that it comes out of lived experience: she is a survivor of stroke, sexual assault, violence, and addiction, and she came to yoga in the late 1990s after losing herself in her early twenties. Her central idea is that yoga is a way back to the breath and to self-trust, and she sums it up as planting roots as firm as the trees. The people who follow her tend to be trauma survivors, recovery-oriented students, and practitioners who want trauma-informed yoga from a teacher who has done the healing herself. She also works as a survivor advocate, which extends her teaching into policy rather than keeping it inside the studio. Newcomers should read her work as a combination of embodied practice and public advocacy, not as generic wellness content.
