The house wakes to Tibetan chimes. At 6:30 the group gathers for a stretch, breakfast follows at a communal table, and by 8:00 everyone is heading for the trails. That is the rhythm of a day at The Ranch Hudson Valley, a retreat on 200 forested acres less than an hour from Manhattan. The property is a turn-of-the-century lakefront estate that JP Morgan built for his daughter. It has since been restored, with interiors by designer Steven Gambrel, who blended historic charm with modern-rustic comfort. The stone mansion keeps its antique furnishings, and the old ballroom is now the gym. The 26 guest rooms and suites look onto the lake, the mountains or the courtyard, and the Hamilton suite keeps its original wood paneling. Rooms have no televisions, and connectivity is limited to in-room wi-fi. The estate is the eastern counterpart to The Ranch Malibu, the original flagship. The method is the same: guided hikes of two or four hours through nearby state parkland, a daily fitness class, restorative yoga, sound baths, and a deep-tissue massage for every full day of a stay. Guests also have an infrared sauna, hot and cold plunge, and an indoor heated pool. Meals are plant-forward and organic, without alcohol, dairy, gluten, soy or processed sugars. Retreats run all year, as three nights from Thursday to Sunday or four nights from Monday to Thursday, with multi-week stays and a bespoke Ranch Private option. Elective services include acupuncture, reiki, hypnotherapy and energy healing. Seasonal programs have included a GORUCK rucking retreat, a Gold Coast Mahjong retreat, and a physician-led retreat with Dr. Zulianna Ibrahim.
