Voyage of Voices

Voyage of Voices is a four-day spiritual workshop in voice and sound, held at PachaMama Eco Village & Retreat Center in Nicoya, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Led by Raaji Amankay, a trained body worker and therapist, it is an invitation to meet your true voice and the deep joy of singing and expressing through sound. Beginners and experienced singers are equally welcome.

The workshop rests on the idea that the voice remembers what the individual has forgotten. It reflects patterns and beliefs, and it also holds authentic expression, creativity, and a reservoir of power and presence. Relaxing into your own sound, beyond judgment and ideas, can be a deeply empowering experience.

What to Expect

The group explores different ways of meeting the voice. The work begins with deep listening and playful experimentation with sound. From there, participants practice tuning breath, voice, and body, so that they become more resonant and open for sound to pass through.

Ceremonial elements and moments of sonorous prayer open a deeper connection to an ancient voice within. Over the four days, participants work together to develop a set of songs, chants, and sound healings. These are shared with the community on the final evening of the workshop, so the days build toward an open sharing rather than a private exercise.

You do not need to read music or have sung before. The emphasis is on listening, breath, and permission to make sound, whatever your level.

About Raaji Amankay

Raaji Amankay is a trained body worker and therapist who has been working with people since 1990. She has studied several therapy and healing modalities, including Trauma Healing and Somatic Experiencing. Over three decades she has explored ways of working with body and spirit, with movement and stillness, sound and silence, energy and matter. Her workshops share that experience and her passion for healing and transformation, and they touch on Tantra and relationships, women's work, meditation, art and expression, and working with people.

The Setting

The workshop takes place at PachaMama Eco Village & Retreat Center, in the Nicoya area of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Accommodation options are listed alongside the event.

Before You Go

All levels are welcome, from first-time singers to experienced ones. Come ready to listen, to experiment with your voice, and to take part in the closing evening of shared songs, chants, and sound healings with the wider community.
