À propos de cet événement

Description

Under 40 Practice Group is an ongoing meditation group for people in their 20s and 30s, rooted in Insight Meditation, also called mindfulness meditation. It meets at Seattle Insight in Seattle, Washington, and online by Zoom, so you can sit with the group in the room or from home. The session on the second Wednesday of the month is led by Keri Pederson, Community Guiding Teacher.

What to Expect

The evening runs from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. It begins with a 30 minute sitting meditation. After the sit, there is a short reflection and a discussion, a chance to talk about practice with others who are at a similar stage of life.

The group meets in two rhythms. On the second Wednesdays, Keri Pederson leads and the group gathers both in person and online. On the fourth Wednesdays, rotating facilitators lead and the group meets online only. The yearly theme is Transcendental Dependent Arising, a teaching from the Buddhist tradition that the group returns to through the year.

Seattle Insight offers this group as a space specifically for younger practitioners. Because it is meant to be a safe space, the Zoom link is shared on request rather than posted publicly.

About Keri Pederson

Keri Pederson serves as a Community Guiding Teacher at Seattle Insight and leads the second Wednesday sessions of the Under 40 Practice Group, both in person and online.

The Place

In-person sessions take place at Seattle Insight, 4001 9th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105, in the University District area of north Seattle. Anyone joining from elsewhere can take part online on the second and fourth Wednesdays.

Before You Go

An introduction to Insight Meditation is helpful but not required, so newcomers are welcome alongside people with an established practice. The group is for people in their 20s and 30s.

No registration is needed. To receive the Zoom link, write to the group's organizers with the subject line "Request for Under 40 Zoom link" before the session you plan to attend.

The group runs on dana, a word for generosity, or freely offered giving. A modest suggested donation is requested, along with dana for the teacher, and you are asked to offer that amount or another heartfelt one. Everyone is welcome regardless of ability to pay. Dana for both Seattle Insight and the teachers can be given online or in person.
