Description
Trauma Sensitive Yoga for Female Survivors is a free, gentle yoga class offered by YogaSong and Victim Services Inc. It is open to female survivors, and it is led by yoga teacher Rachel Allen. The class is described as an in-person trauma sensitive yoga (TSY) session, held for one hour in the early afternoon, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
No yoga experience is needed. The class is meant as an accepting space where you can come as you are, and the practice is built around choice.
What to Expect
This is a gentle class, and options are offered throughout the practice, so you decide what works for your own body and your own comfort. Trauma sensitive yoga pays close attention to invitation rather than instruction, and that approach shapes the whole hour.
The focus is on tools and supports that help with nervous system integration. The aim is also to carry the practice off the mat and into daily life, so that what you find in the hour stays useful afterward.
The class is part of a wider series of Trauma Sensitive Yoga offerings for female survivors, and it sits within the Trauma Informed Services category.
About Rachel Allen
Rachel Allen is a Certified Music Practitioner, Sound Healer, Reiki Master and Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher who works from a trauma informed, social justice framework. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology and is based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, serving the greater Pittsburgh region and working with individuals and organizations virtually.
Her work merges music, yoga and community, and is aimed at creating healthy, diverse and joyful communities. Music is at the heart of her offerings. Her yoga classes are theme-based and bring together yogic philosophy, breathwork, asana, live music and meditation. She also leads community singing and sound healing, using chant, mantra and free movement. Some of the pieces she uses are her own compositions, and others come from her years of group singing across cultures and from the Yogic tradition.
